do all people think that we want to give up our traditions and cultures? and i live in the "real" world is what these people call it. i love fending for myself and living a comfortable life. but what makes you think i wanted to give up my food, my land, and my culture and language. change is hard for people, we don't want to give in to your "culture" we want to keep our own. we respect mother earth for what it is. but these reserves need to be audited to see where this money is going.
@supercoolguy4000 if you fail to realize the current situation their is a system called the indian act.laws implemented by the parliament that bind the native people with very limited mobility.evrything is denied to us our share of canada.even though we may live with forests in our backyard to build a house we cant.evrything has to conform to the canadian building codes given out by the government and approved if not approved then you cant get electricity so on.
@jethro035181 our treatie was signed 60 yrs ago and acted upon 40 yrs ago.Our share only began from within that time frame where is the other 3/4 of the payment in Exchange for giving away all of Canada.
@supercoolguy4000 on a verbal level with no war being fought over ownership of land. All it was, was mark X here before you recieve these gifts without being literate as well at the time 70 yrs ago.Now in this day and age knowing what we know will i agree to such outrageous terms to sign papers for the government and minig companies to be displaced from our homelands for their benefit for us to get our pennies worth.I THINK NOT IT WILL HAVE TO BE OVER MY DEAD BODY.....
the good people there should come together and dump that imposter chief and her $850 a day live-in boyfriend...RIGHT AWAY!! They are nothing but thieves..what a disgrace
Niij-anishinaabeg. Ignore the haters who have left comments on here. They are an embarrassment to their own people (i.e. the white people of Canada). All they are proving this that they have no education and therefore little understanding of the histories of First Nations people here. First Nations rights stem from our prior occupation of Canada before the coming the settlers. This is Our Land! How do I know this? I actually worked hard and went to law school. I'm proud to be Ojibwe.
@jethro035181 You think I dont know what am talking about......Quebec ,formerly lower Canada ,on the other hand ,has followed the french policy which did not admit the claims of the Indians to the lands in the province ,but were held to the property of the crown by right of discovery and conquest .Surrender have not therefore , been taken from the Indians by the crown of the lands occupied by them. quote from treaty 9....As well we finally had our Human Rights protection in june
@darcy32171 People shouldn't have to move from their own land. And considering they're sitting on a diamond mine, which the government and de'beers are the only ones allowed to profit from, and don't even give back to the people who apparently own it... it's not as simple as you think. Talk about an illogical statement.
and am not from Attawapiskat either..personally I think an investigation should be brought fourth at all subjects and charged thrown in jail 2 yrs less a day general population
@jethro035181 you as a person from usa what would you know the relationship between England and the Natives of Canada from day one.1st we helped England kick your ASS in the war of 1812 of which you lost to us and England.Thats just too God Damn Bad for you loosing to a bunch of Natives with England.Thumbs up this one jethro....
i might sound harsh but i am no racist. i have many native friends. what i believe in is a sound work ethic. i was not provided with any guidance, training or anything or that sorts growing up. i am a product of a teenage mother who was a widow at 18. i had to work for everything i have. i also believe in the same. NO MATTER what background
@TheBeaver1967 and you what might you be speaking through in your temporary delussional state. These are the pure facts,None of this one for you two for me such old cliche. The lands will remain with us as they always have and always will. You had you time as it is,times are changing its 2012 out of my way BUSTER.
@jethro035181 was made by the Government of the United States out of SHEER GUILT AND REMORSE....As well there is an International community called the Geneva Code of Conevention which recognizes all Human Rights (protection)....And what info do you have other than childish name calling when you dont even recognise there are laws pertaining to these matters.A self appointed posse wont do it.
@jethro035181 if I was there when the treaties were signed I would not have given anything away to people like you.You heard me we want the other 3/4 of the payment owed to us according to treaty. You better start digging deeper in that pocket of yours...
@DICKRiChArDz No they shouldn`t HAVE to move from THEIR land, but for the mean while when times are tough, go for it...move, find a job, make good money, then go back and educate the rest on how to make money. Work for the diamond mine, HECK we are sitting on a pile of oil which the gov`t profits from: DO we see the money? Yes, if you work in the oil industry to extract it, and the money that comes into the community from the workers that temporarily live there.
@largerPOTATO I also have seen them take a brand new house and remove all the mouldings to use to start a fire. You could build them all new houses and in five years, they would be living in shacks again.
The Indian act provides about $25,000.00 per year for every man woman and child plus the federal government sent an addional amount of $90,000,000.00 for interstructure and a school in the last 5 years. Where the hell has all the money gone? This chief and his buddies must be stealing the band dry and they should be held accountable for it. Enough is enough, more money is not the answer, seeing where the money goes is. There must be accountability or no more money, simple.
justanoldman1 money is essentially the problem. It's a middleman to getting the things you need. Food, clothing, and shelter. One of the things I very much appreciate about the native cultures is their desire to keep the knowledge to provide for themselves with the materials they have available to them. And to pass that knowledge down to their children. I think a lot of this knowledge has been gone from white culture for a very long time. A lot of the waste and environmental problems has come about because of money. Most having to work for rent or mortgage the majority of their lives prevents them from helping the environment or one another. Volunteers for indigenous housing. It does not take years to build a house. But when all those who would help have to worry about their own rents, it's very hard to get volunteers. All money does is maintain status quo. Where people work for money, the government stays in power, and pollution continues to happen.
Sick of hearing this crap. Hey, next gov`t handout you get.....MOVE. Move to a better place where there is jobs, etc. I like how they say this is been going on for so many years, but they keep popping kids out. If the situation is that bad, why give birth to bring a child into it???? Simple logic, think about it.
Boring!!!! Fix your own problems. Move away and use the forrest to build log homes.... heat and food courtesy of the Canaidian Government. Nobody likes a whiner, get a real job and support your community.
Whats going on with $95 flats of bottled water ? Thats nuts
