    I wish Mairead Nesbitt the Celtic Woman companion can play the Fantasia of British sea songs while she plays the violin in different medleys! She could come to the royal Albert hall in London to participate BBC PROMS for one day. For instance, Jack's the Lad (Hornpipe)

    Has anyone worked out what tempo the orchestra ramped up to by the end? I think it was in the region of 300bpm (5 beats per second)- pretty darn fast (well, they have to be able to play it that fast to be able to outpace the prommers' claps...)

      +rune titan It´s an old inside joke at the Proms. It´s kind of like the orchestra against the prommers. The prommers try to get the orchestra to make a mistake and the orchestra try to beat them in a race. It´s there every year and it´s part of the traditions at the last night of the proms.

      +rune titan if your referring to the violin at the start 'for me' it's cos it sounds like the ship is sinking when he plays out of tune... very funny if you come from a navy family.

    • @thebigitchy
      @thebigitchy 8 лет назад +6

      +logbasher it's not that he's playing out of tune, it's that he switches to a minor key. Playing in a minor key makes the piece sound sad or tragic, and that's why it sounds like the ship's sinking.
