The wool is likely any type of wool which you can buy from most hobby shops/fabric shops, and when we did it in school we used hot soapy water so it's likely that :)
Usually the best wool to make dreads is called Merino wool. From other videos that I have watched they say it works great. What she put in the water is olive soap, it’s sold on her website. That just makes it easier so that you don’t have to use a knife and bar soap. I hope that helped :) I have been watching a ton of videos to learn the best method.
Note to everyone:if u use merino's wool, check before buying if it's mulesing free. It's a way for avoid cruelty against sheeps. Do a reaserch on internet before buying please 🙏❤️
I personally just felt the wool. Super easy n then I can use the felting tool to attach the wool to the end of my dreads (which grew from my scalp lol) for added length! :)
This actually works :D I did mine a year ago and they are still as beautiful! I used fairy washing up liquid in the bottle and its just as good in my opinion :) You really do need the grippy mat underneath the sushi mat or you will go insane with it slipping about everywhere! The wool from this shop is the best in my opinion although cheaper postage alternatives are available from the cyberlox website. Either will work. Stay Beautiful ;)
How would you make the dread more tapered at the ends? Would you just thin the wool out a bit where you want the taper to start? I've been making synthetic dreads, mostly crocheted and regular twisted for near ten years, but have never attempted wool though I have had some installed with my synth dreads.
Where did this vid come from originally??? I remember watching this a long time ago but there was no music. You could actually hear the lady explaining what she was doing
Renate Meijnders no thanks don't need to pay you more money for something I can get at any craft store and it's soap and watter ans a spray bottle grow up bitch
awesome video, but do you rinse the soap out afterwards? I've watched another video where they do so wasn't sure if it was necessary or if the actual process of rolling it is enough to remove the soap?
Is there a good way to combine two colors to make an ombre effect? I've got some remnants that aren't quite long enough to make a full length dread, but they would be if I could combine their lengths.
+Renate Meijnders I did some research into needle felting, and I think I understand the method you're recommending. Let me run it by you, and see if you agree. I would take the two pieces of roving that I want to combine, and lay them end to end (overlapping a bit) on a spongy surface (or felting mat); then I'd take a felting needle or small crochet hook and essentially needle felt the two ends together by passing the needle in and out through the wool until they don't easily come apart. Once that's done, I'd proceed as shown in this video. Would you say that I've got the general idea?
RetroMic sheep are not harmed to harvest their wool. it is more cruel not to shear them, as the wool growth hinders their movement, breathing, and eating if left untouched.
Hi I love this tutorial! What sort of mat are you using? The felting matts I've seen are nothing like this & I would like to get this style of mat. Thanks
Wait that's what people who sell wool dreads do? And they cost 150$ per set?! This seemed way too easy and fast for them to cost that much, is the wool like 100$ per set or what???
Infernal Cookie cost of the wool. Cost of the soap and other materials. You're also paying for labor. And when someone is making sets of up to 70-80, materials aren't cheap.
I thought the same thing. Bought enough roving for a whole head- $30. Haven't picked a dye. For one 24" double ended dreadlock its taking me a solid 15+ minutes of palm rolling (gotta make sure none of it can be separated). Need between 80-100 (40-50 DE) locks to look natural. They are labor intensive to make. Glad I can do the install myself. Not cheap.
It may not be complicated, but it is extremely time intensive and it is very, very hard on the hands to make several of these. Also, the video cut out several times during the rolling. She did not roll that double ended dread in just a few minutes it probably took her at least 10 to 15 minutes for one dread. if you multiply that by 50 double ended dreads (basically a full set) that's over 8 hours of JUST the rolling process. Then you have the materials on top of that. They are putting in a full day's work to make one set of double ended dreads, why shouldn't they get paid for that?
faith darnell felting the tiny loops takes more time than felting the other side of the dreadlock, due to the extreme care to be taken. At least, that’s why my dreadlocks are priced as they are.
That only leaves me with about a hundred questions.
Id prefer the video if it was explained more, like what wool, what was put in the spray water etc etc

Yeah, I think the stuff she puts in the bottle is small chunks of soap

No, but you need to roll them again to make them more sturdy again. You can do that between your hands.

What's in the spray bottle and where can I find the thing to roll it with
It's just a sushi rolling mat. You can find it at any Asian grocery store.

hi, I was just wondering what the blue/purple mat is called? I followed this tutorial and got some amazing dreads! thanks
After the dreads are made, will they get ruined if they get wet?
Are you kidding me??? This is a much easier way to make dreads than I do. Why didn't I know about this? :(((
There are easier ways lol
It is also animal cruelty.
How is this animal cruelty?
RetroMic sheep are not harmed to harvest their wool. it is more cruel not to shear them, as the wool growth hinders their movement, breathing, and eating if left untouched.
yeah, it's awful not to sheer a sheep, I live in farm country and have watched. They don't care when it's happening and they love it after!
Yes, olivesoap. You can buy all the materials in our webshop :))
Hi I love this tutorial!

Infernal Cookie I'm sure it costs that much to get them put in, considering it takes time to sew in a set on someone's head.

They cost so much because of the labor it takes. Your hands KILL after doing this for hours. They bruise, and sometimes blister.
