  • This pool was losing water and the homeowners did not want to close the pool until the leaks were addressed. In addition to the new liner we also replaced two wide mouth skimmers and suction pipes. A great warm day and a great fitting liner.

I have installed replacement liners for 40 years. Around 2500 installations. Here is a warning to your way of installing. Do not install any faceplates on a vinyl pool before water is up on the walls. Main drain faceplates can be installed before water is put in as long as there is a great vacuum. If you install light, inlet or skimmer faceplates early, the liner WILL pull away.

Hey Lester, I can't believe I missed this comment but I too have been installing liners now for about 40 years and this is correct, however if you tape the pool to make it air tight, install the liner on a hot day and sometimes step underneath the fittings to be SURE the liner isn't going to move downward after the water goes in you can cut the light, steps, skimmers and outlets before it's filled with water and not have the liner pull and stress those areas. We ALWAYS check this before cutting anything and often do wait until the next day when the water is at least a foot and a half up the walls before cutting anything. If you want to hear something crazy, back in the day when I worked for a very experienced installer we used to cut the entire steps before even pulling the liner across the pool! We'd weight the corners, step all over, lots of stress and concern but never had a wrinkle or leak and many of those liners lasted past 20 years (I know because now I have my own business and saw quite a few I had installed with that company).
