My husband did the same thing by himself 12 yrs ago. He looks at it now and can't believe he did it. He was working his physical job then coming home and digging and digging....at age 51. He's a trooper and we've enjoyed it. Hope you're enjoying the fruits of your hard labor as well!
Man I felt tired just thinking about building a pool by myself lol. You are one of a kind for tackling that project by yourself, brother! Enjoy that pool!
Most patient man alive! After finally getting to the point of just needing electric and having the electrician screw you around multiple times, I would've strangled him lol
Hearing you explain how parts on the digging equipment broke and the parts had to be ordered reminded me of when I worked in construction and our head equipment repairman was so good that he often lathed out and welded all new parts out of steel at his shop rather than wait for an ordered part. He never made it past 5th grade but I would put him against any college grad when it came to engineering and repairing dump trucks, backhoes, how rams, transmissions, motors, engines, etc. He could usually just look at a piece and recreate the damned thing from memory.
My grandfather was like that . Started at 10 in a textile mill oiling the machinery, by the time the mill closed he had put in 35 yrs and was the head of machinery maintenance for the entie mill. This included a yearly tear down to all machinery during the first two weeks of July when the mill was closed and replacement & on site fabrication of whatever parts were needed. I was told he could do it all.
God bless you! I cannot even fathom taking on a project like that! Great job, not only on the pool, but on your follow-through in spite of so much frustration.
this just randomly showed up in my feed and I watched the whole thing. I am actually laughing and cringing at the same time for all the setbacks you had. Despite all that you carried on and finished and I am extremely impressed. You are truly amazing man congratulations and I hope you are still enjoying your pool
I used to install septic tanks and home sewage treatment plants when my boss partnered with a pool builder and I helped build three pools. They were all Gunnite construction with a lot of rebar. Your pool looks nice and inviting. Wishing you many years enjoyment.
This popped up in my feed and I watched it on a whim and boy, am I glad I did. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Every second. Hearing you describe the process, the delays and problems, then solving them, all with the pictures was captivating. Before i knew it, it was over. Wonderful video.😊
Sir u have officially earned urself a 1%er patch. Most people can’t make a pool on their own and u did a giant beautiful pool at that. Pimping ain’t easy sir.
That original electrician was a complete idiot with zero integrity. What a feat man, most realistic and impressive DIY pool project I've seen. Enjoy it in good health.
Take some time to acknowledge yourself, for all the time and effort that goes in to providing for those you love. Give yourself a pat on the back every now and again. Your amazing.
I’ve built vinyl pools since I was a teenager and even though I could critique this(if anyone decides to diy their own pool make sure the walls are level and you have a footer around it) I am impressed with this, outstanding work.
Thanks for your comment. Even using a laser level, I have a high spot at the shallow end, only about 2 inches. Goes to show you how being off just a tiny amount at the tripod can really grow over 35 feet. And I should have gotten a helper when installing the liner, but I was determined to do it myself. Anyway, I'm probably harder on myself than anyone.
OMG... what a trooper you are. I would have never been able to keep my shit together. Your pool looks awesome by the way. I hope the family appreciates all the effort that went into that pool.
Well done I constructed one 22 years ago I am 72 now and love having a swim but the weather in uk is not always good . I used hollow concrete blocks infilled them with concrete. I love the shape of your pool brilliant
Your experience often leads to resentment to the finished product! I've learned in life that the only person you can trust is yourself. Hiring, contracting etc, saves your sanity, not your wallet. You were dealt a bad hand while constructing this but dude, its a lovely finish. Take a deep breath, long exhale and dive in. Enjoy it! You deserve it. When you see the wife laying on her sun bed sipping her cocktail you'll remember why you first grabbed that shovel.
Your mono tone really help with capturing your viewers with how some parts of the build went. Heck I even felt invested in it as if it was my time and money. But overall glad you got your pool. I'd offer to keep it clean but doesn't look like you reside in California.
I thought I work hard and I was thinking about installing my own pool. That thought went out the window after watching you do it. You did a great job first by starting and seeing it through. Most people would have stop that project when they started. Congratulations on job well done. I think I will just work overtime and leave that to the professionals.
I got irritated the other day when I had to change out a shower handle and valve. This guy built a pool in his back yard . Defiantly makes minor home improvements seem easier after watching this.
I really have to make a comment! Your pool came out beautiful, you have the patience of a Saint! I was getting anxious just by listening to all your troubles!! Wow… great job 👏 congratulations 🎉
I think it shows that you can accomplish seemingly impossible tasks without a Professional team to extract your life savings and for what time it took you ended up with an Awesome looking pool. Hope you have spent a good amount of time swimming around and enjoying the fruit of your labor. God bless
Bro, come the fuck on. Calling a retard persistent isn't really a compliment. The guy is stupid as shit. His project is a complete disaster and you're patting himself on the back. You have to be a fool also. Geez.
Phenomenal job. I'll be making my own inground, but I'll be sticking to the conventional rectangle shaped pool. Cheaper on materials and a quicker design.
I felt like a loser, but after listening to your endurance through hardships, it made me feel like like anything is achievable, even if it takes a few years of incremental progress! Thank you
I would like to hang out with a person like you, and the comment people also, and share stories, and learn too. Good job. Looks so refreshing. I' m planning a cedar pool 23'x 12' x6' height.
When my wife wanted a pool , i watched a bunch of videos and realized theres no way im doing that, so we hired the pool company. My job was to build a nice deck which i did. The deck cost 3 times more than the pool but its exactly what we wanted. Its nine years old now and still going strong. Thanks for your story.
You did an awesome job bro. My above ground pool is getting retired after this season and I thought about digging our inground pool. Seeing this definitely gives me the confidence to know I can do it.
You built an awesome pool you should be very proud of yourself. I think the only thing you are missing is a larger patio around it. That is fantastic amazing and encouraging
Omgoodness sir, Thank you for your video,,, my wife is always on me about building our own pool , we’ve had quite a few above ground pools we’ve dealt with in the past years , but now looking into an in ground pool, again my wife thinks it’s easy 😂, 😖, but thank you so much for your insight and I’m so sorry for the craziness (anxiety) that you & family went through, but praise God he used you as a tool in giving me & others a better perspective in this pool project. There are no concrete mixers and pumps in your area ? That’s just nuts doing it like this. That’s quite the determination. Never would i hand dig this.
While those services are available, the expense and trying to schedule it was not feasible in my opinion. Plus, placing the concrete by myself would ha had them sitting around a lot. Thanks for watching and commenting.
WOW… you sir might just be the hardest working person in the USA. AND patient! Very inspiring story and the results look amazing. Well done and I’m wishing you get lots of time off work to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Even though you ran into obstacles, you did stick w/ it, worked your tail off, and now have a beautiful pool. I love the shape….that would be my choice! Enjoy!
We bought a used round above ground sheet metal pool from a friend. Set it up pretty easy. Has been up now for 4 years and works great. This type would be way too much work. But God bless you for all your effort.
Wow that was worth the watch sorry you went through hills but it was lessons on the way also felt like I went through them along the journey love the video glad you didn’t give up
Great video, narration and project accomplishment. I think it’s also a primer on why not to try this yourself! Sorry you lost two swim seasons but happy it worked out. Definitely a survival and perseverance journey! 😊
Wow. You need to add a final , completed view. Way to hang in there. I fired my builder after he set walls (for other issues). However, i didn't notice he didn't install the turnbuckles and the walls ( inside radius's) caved in after hard rains in fall, winter and spring. Took me 2 years from time i started digging those out. Would never do it again. Every rain set me back days/ weeks. When it was finished, I was proud of it, but life too short to have something like that consume your every waking minute. Your paying on a home improvement loan during those years you are still building it. Drove me nuts. One of the easier things i did was replace the liner after about 10 years of use. I was prepared for the worst, but all went smooth. And makes pool look like new again.
Much respect. talk about patience, im patient but damn u took it to new levels, now this the kind of guy u want to live next to, talk about a hard worker, im a hard worker too but damn even i would've got super frustrated w all things that went wrong but at the same time can't say i haven't been there before.
