  • In the lush and untamed landscape of Crete emerges the contemporary residence "O Lofos," a masterpiece of design and architecture conceived by Block722 studio. Perched on the slopes of Mount Thrypti on the eastern side of the Greek island, this house is a tribute to the harmony between nature and architecture.
In addressing the challenge of incorporating a 280 sqm house on a steep slope, the studio has drawn clean lines and subtle volumes, inspired by Japanese organic minimalism.
The intricacies of the steep terrain have been turned into an advantage, resulting in a design reminiscent of a private observation platform that masterfully engages with the lush landscape, combining majestic views of mountains, plains, and the Mediterranean Sea.
The main structure is divided into two low-rise buildings, connected by a semi-open area with a delicate water fountain. The fusion of natural materials like wood and stone with contemporary elements pays homage to the local context.
Abundant Greek sunlight shapes forms and surfaces, playfully interacting with the textures of natural materials and conveying a sense of tranquility and serenity. The pursuit of a tranquil life serves as a constant inspiration, capturing the island's way of life.
Collaboration with local artisans enriches the construction, featuring bespoke furniture pieces, most of which were specifically designed for this project, utilizing materials such as marble, wood, stone, and terrazzo. These elements culminate in Block722's ANATA furniture collection, representing a true bespoke residential treasure, where neutral and earthy tones reign, and quality is cherished.
The emphasis on art is also evident, with a striking 2.8 x 1.5-meter sculpture by Greek artist Pantelis Chandris taking a prominent place in the living room. This piece, commissioned specifically for the project, masterfully complements the environment and reflects the fusion of scales and disciplines that defines "O Lofos."
"O Lofos" is a timeless and harmonious residence that blends contemporary elements with local heritage, creating a retreat that seems to have always belonged to the land it occupies - an artwork celebrating the deep relationship between construction and surroundings.

The editing is too Artsy-Fartsy . It is like holding the hand too close to the eyes . One can't see the entire hand , and thus can't make out what is in front of one's face. Try to convey the entire whole in the photos.
