Are Royal Enfield Interceptor 650’s Still Good Value?

  • Probably one of the most popular bikes of the past 4 years, least in the modern retro class. Not expensive to buy new but hold their value second hand. The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. Now the Royal Enfield Super Meteor is here and the Shotgun is just round the corner, has the interceptor had its day? I don’t think so or at least hope not. To me this is still the best Royal Enfield twin.

    Great video as usual.
And as for the Dealer I can vouch how good they really are, took my bike in for a service which I bought from them,
And waited for it when they had finished the service.
The weather had turned horrible and it was chucking it down with rain.
The owner of Orwells see I only had my summer riding gear on.
And told one of the staff members to organise their van to take me and my bike home, free of charge I might add.
    Now that's service.

Considering this was a best selling bike in 2020/2021 I reckon there'll be a consistent supply on the used market and we'll have a great option for a commuter/winter hack. Hopefully Enfield doesn't mess around with the bike in any material way for a few years and we'll keep getting a steady supply of accessories etc as well.

Hi TAYM, great review, it has helped me make a decision (following a test ride of my own) - and as per your rhetorical question, I have found that extra grand down the back of the sofa and ordered a new one! Paying that extra grand means I will never have to wonder how a previous owner treated it - although I imagine most owners cosset theirs as will I.

Bought mine in 2020 after riding the T100 & V7 ....both bikes were good but the Interceptor really appealed to me because of the nimble way it rode and the amount of stuff I could do to it .
The original seat is an abomination , good for 50 miles and thats it , bought the bike on a friday and ordered Continental GT touring seat the same day which arrived from India really quickly and transformed the bike comfort .
Next to go was the full exhaust system for stainless headers and S&S pipes saving a chunk of weight and improving the sound , motone indicators and rear light quickly followed as did some parts powder coating because i didnt like some silver bits , stiffened up the front suspension with spacers , changed the rear for Hagons , spent a bob or 2 on cnc foot controls and bar end mirrors & stainless guards and ive got a bike that i love to bits after 9000 miles ....I service it myself as its a piece of cake and it is a definate keeper .
I'm still not anywhere near the base cost of a T100 new even after all the stuff I've done, and before anyone mentions it i would have done the same stuff to the Triumph !
Buy one you wont regret it !

Mine is a 19 plate and I’m trading it in January for a Guzzi V7. Nothing wrong with the Enfield for most of the time. The seat is very uncomfortable and had to be changed but other than that it was a great little bike. It’s a bit lacking in HP but I have a bigger bike to use should I need a bit more grunt.

The thing about the Interceptor is that it's a really well rounded package. Not one thing about it is outstanding but it does most things well enough to make it an easy bike to live with. it's a solid package at a decent price. Great video Mr TAYM I really enjoyed this one! As you might recall I had an Intercepter until quite recently. While it looks and sounds great, for me it just didn’t feel planted enough. I am seriously considering getting a Super Meteor. Although it isn’t as good looking as the Interceptor it just feels more secure to me, it’s hard to explain but I think it’s got to do with the riding position and the lower centre of gravity. Anyway that’s my 2 cents worth. Cheers Felix 😁🫖

      @TAYM  5 месяцев назад +2

Thanks Felix 😁 yes, the interceptor rides very light and a bit skittish 😁 the extra weight of the super meteor helps it feel more secure 😁 likewise, the continental riding position puts more weight on the front which has a similar effect 😁 least that’s what I think 😁

I’ve done almost 5000 miles on my 2021 Interceptor that I bought used. It had almost 1000 miles on it at my purchase. No issues so far, other than the stock seat. I put up with it until about 3 months ago when I gave up and bought the touring seat. It’s better, but still not overly comfy. My wife rides with me often, so I did add a small backrest. She prefers it to my other bikes because it’s easier for her to get on, and it’s easier for me to handle. My VStrom can be unwieldy, especially with a passenger. The bike is what it is. It’s no sportbike, and I knew that. It draws attention whenever parked, and I expected that. It prefers speeds below 70 mph, and so do I. It’s been 100% reliable, just like nearly all the bikes I’ve owned. If properly maintained and ridden with mechanical sympathy, most vehicles tend to be reliable. There are exceptions, but I haven’t had one so far.

I spent 2 weeks and 2700 miles riding mine around the UK in May/June doing Land's End to John O Groats and home and it was a memorable trip ( I put the entire trip footage on my channel). Granted the stock seat wasn't comfortable when loaded with luggage after a few hours but the sound of that engine with "Enfield-Precision" silencers was a tune i couldn't get bored of. Call me a fair weather rider if you like but out of my 3 bikes i only take mine out on dry days as it's the only bike i have purchased new and want to keep it looking nice for as long as i can ;-) Happy New Year. (I will try and say hello if we cross paths in 2024, didn't want to interrupt your video when i passed you at Old Buckenham last summer.)

My only issue is I am hung up on triumphs just now at loads more money why ?🤔and one in particular should I go for it by hook or by crook 🤣and I have a bike I really like why am I not just satisfied with that .What is it that makes us want more and more ?since you can only ride one at a time 👌👍

Morning Mr TAYM. I think the price is a bit high for a used example, no matter how low the miles are. MotoGB are selling off new bikes for not a lot more than that, which has had a real knock on effect on used bike values. In some ways. I miss mine (Honour), but in others I don’t. The polished engine casings, were a real pain to keep on top of, which was the reason I used to put her into winter hibernation. That said, for a blast on A and B roads, it was pure joy. Cheers

Interceptor kerb weight is 218kg (dry 198kg), against the Super Meteor wet at 241kg. So a difference of 23kg ready to ride. Similar fuel and oil weights so I guess the extra on the Super Meteor is the wheels/tyres/footrests/seats.

    Interesting video Mr Taym .
It's an Enfield phenomenon. Lots of low mileage bikes in super condition on the market .
Impulse buys that aren't used as much as they should be . Were probably only bought because they seemed so cheap at the time . Then when the novelty wears off - time for something else .
    Psychologists call it the " 2wiiliedwheels syndrome ." 🤣
( Just pulling your leg Willie )
It's not serious and doesn't affect your health , just your wallet .
But the side effect is a good used bike is put on the market .
The best way to buy these bikes, if you want a bargain, is to buy second hand.
All it needs is a stripe of colour on the tank , some Commando peashooter silencers and a decent seat .
    Then there's that 46 hp 🤔.
It's a pity Dunstall went out of business.

Prices seem to vary and there are many good low mileage used examples out there. It must be difficult for dealers selling a 2020 bike as the manufacturer's warranty will have expired leaving them to cover any faults. By comparison with the one you rode, Hythe Motorcycles in Colchester have a 2022 model with similar mileage and at the same price but of course it will have the Enfield warranty for a year or more and roadside assistance. I think they look so much better with the silver wheels rather than black. What do you think?

I had a int650 and it is a great bike for the price, but for someone who drives 6k+ miles a year, it gets annoying. The issue with the maintenance is not the valves, it is taking off the tank, valve cover, and putting them back on! UGH that sucks! other than that it is probably the best bike for the price! If you only ride a few thousand miles a season, this is truly a great bike. I traded in my INT650 because my wife started to ride with me and the INT650 was not that comfortable for her and moved around a lot on the back after about a hour or riding. We traded it in for a used Harley because that bike is designed for 2 and long rides... Next year or later this year i do plan on getting a second bike, but my next bike will be a dual sport or a scram.. I want to do some mud trails and off-roading but mainly for a commute to work! The Harley is my forever bike and gets HORRIBLE gas mileage like (30) -lol... but is awesome for riding with my wife, like one of the best things in the world to be honest!! I am looking at the Scram411 and the CFmoto aventur or 700x... Anyways have a great day!

      @@johnjay6370 very true John..
And witch! model of Harley is that?
My Intercptr 650 has given me 3 yrs of hassle free riding, not even a minor glitch. I started biking at age 52 in 2016 on a new bullet500 which lost its silencer about 2000km into my first ladakh trip. Followed by a leaking carb Gasket next day..
So coming from suck! experiences, the 650 has been blissful. However the bad ergos and shitty front forks take away from the overall riding experience. For u with the missus along, the Inty isn't the best pillion...footpegs awkward. I wish they had the 650 twins engine and gearbox with the Bullets ergos and saddle.
Anyway I'm expecting my Triumph 400x any day now- today the dealer did the insurance, just have to wait for registration.
I live in the back of beyond with all dealerships 300km away. Took a friends Harley 440 for 1st service and am hugely impressed with its mid range torque, firm no nonsense suspension and wonderful chassis that makes cornering a lark.
Regular bigger Harleys are prohibitively expensive here in India coz of import duties, but for me this Harley440 ticks all the ride! boxes....at 80kmph the engine asks for more. So at about 4100 rpm in top you are at 105kmph..about 65mph..
After that there isn't much at the top end..but till there it's willing robust. Inside .my helmet it sounds uncannily like an inline 4...
So after breaking in the Triumph will be touring NE India in April..Aruna has, Nagaland, Burma and Bhutan..45 days.
I'm tempted to let go of the Enfields 500 & 650 and get the Hardly! Davidson as another touring option. Lemme assure u that 440 motor can tour, albeit with max cruising speed of 70mph..

I reckon the Silver Spectre is one of the better looking Interceptors along with the Black one. That's why I got Silver Spectre bike.
Actually weighs 215kg with full tank of gas so 25kg lighter than Super Meteor & only 1kg lighter than Speedtwin 900.
Interceptor sounds great with S&S slip on's with or without baffles in my mate could hear me a block away with baffles out of my S&S slip on's & boy it sounded great. Not as good as the Trident 🔱 though. The new Darkside series of Interceptor
& GT look good with all blacked out engine & black alloys & Meteor switches.
The RE logo looks better painted black on the Silver Spectre model.52Nm torque & that fender extender is stock.
The Dark models will be better for winter too. They do have skinny grips & Grip Puppies are great for girth of grips & take some vibes away.

Just ordered the Go pro 12 today with the media mod finally should get some up to date
      Filming and audio come spring
Better than the old Go pro 4 I’ve been using with no stabilisation apart from the insta 360 which is good for 360 not great at forward filming
