'Ratched' Star Cynthia Nixon on Queer Couple Representation, Her Thoughts on J.K. Rowling

- Cynthia Nixon, who stars in Ryan Murphy's latest series "Ratched" alongside Sarah Paulson as her love interest, talks with Variety about the importance of seeing this queer love story played by two queer women on-screen.
"If you think back on the movies in the middle part of the 20th century, there are so few gay characters of any kind. And when we exist, we exist as terrifying perverts and pedophiles and cold villainous malevolent women," Nixon said.
Nixon, whose been very supportive of her transgender son, also revealed her feelings on J.K. Rowling's recent string of anti-trans comments.
"I believe in her books and I believe in the films and I believe in the message of them," she said. "But I am puzzled that her umbrella, which seemed previously so broad, leaves this one group standing out in the rain."

God Cynthia is so hot & for once a lesbian tv character is ACTUALLY LGBT+ in real life. 😍 sick of seeing gay characters on tv, only to find out they’re straight in real life, glad Ratched featured two LGBTQ+ protagonists & of course both Cynthia & Sarah are so beautiful 😍 🥰

I really like Cynthia Nixons attitude to Rowling. I am sick of reading condemnations especially when they contain strawman arguments. Rowling's views really spark off cognitive dissonance when you consider the main thrust of her acceptance of diversity in the bulk of her writings.

however once you start looking iy becomes obvious that jk rowling is more prejudiced than you realise, for example with the character of Cho Chang, that name isnt even a real chinese name, she spun it out of thin air from a racist stereotype. and also her depiction of the goblins at gringotts are based on anti-semitic stereotypes too. its concerning to say the least and any person who condemns a whole group of people (transwomen) as pedophiles must have a mind capable of ostracising groups like that so i personally think it is more than acceptable to condemn her as a perso, and as someone who i will never support or give my money to again.

JK Rowling is an unfortunate example how someone can "love LGB" persons and still specifically hate trans women. That one can claim to be progressive and still hate trans women. That one can claim to be pro-women and still hate trans women. I've never been a big Harry Potter fan (I think it's a rip-off of Worse Witch) but any pretense the author and writer had to being about "supporting underdogs" is a farce.
JK Rowlings does not hate trans women. Stop spreading rubbish. Have you actually read anything that she has said!
