This was the best explanation of how to remove the starter heat shield. There's another video on YT where the owner seems to be going through starters but didn't have a heat shield and had problems with the signal wire spade connector...it's probably from all that heat. Thanks man!
Use a jointed ratchet socket on that top bolt and it’s 100% easier. I also used a stubby that you can put extensions on so much easier. Drop the forward drive shaft too.
Do all jeeps come with spacers because i just changed my starter again because when i turn it on it cranks but doesn’t turn on. I still have that issue now so im not sure what’s the problem
Awesome video! Looks way easier than a 3.8l dodge grand caravan lol 😂 the van was way too low to the ground and was hard to find a jack that would lift it high enough to be chubby guy friendly, some of it had to be done from the top and some from the bottom, the jeep looks to be a breeze!
These are the worst starters, I’m changing a 3rd starter for a friend on his jeep. Buy OEM if you want it to last longer but beware it want last long and you will be replacing it again soon.

Yes, that’s exactly correct. The shield is there for a reason. And Thank you!
I just yanked it out worked like a charm
Asoʻ white you don't put the camera stupid
Great in-depth video my friend, greatly appreciated👍👍👍
Thank you for the compliment! Really appreciate it
The third "bolt" hole is for a metal ziptie to hold the shield.
The lower long bolt goes through heat shield lower hole and gets a star retainer
This is correct. It actually has a christmas tree type clip but a zip tie will work just as well
This guy knows !!!
Thank you!

Good advise!

No spacers on JK's that I know of. Maybe you have a different problem because it the vehicle cranks then the starter is good.

Thank you, yes it's not bad at all.
Thanks good stuff man 👍🏼
No problem , thanks for the comment
I shaped the heat shield to the removed starting motor then slid it on!
Great, whatever is easiest
Looks like you made the video upside down backwards or something ?????
Nope, just under the truck on my back.
Do JK’s 2007-2011 all use the same starter despite transmission?
Yes
NO!! Auto 10 tooth Manual 9 tooth pinion
@josephmartin2362 thank you for that information extra information!

any one knows the starter part number? I have a 2010 JK automatic and cannot find it
Why? Just look up year, make , model and engine or code ( 8th digit) or if buying from dealer the vin number
@@motorcarnut sorry I am buying from ebay or Amazon as I am in Central America and is one of the very few options I have
Ok, here: 4801850AA
@@motorcarnut thank you sooo much, this seems to be the right part I will provide my VIN to the seller but it looks exactly as mine, I am subscribing.
No problem
There is no way I can get at that top bolt with the drive shaft on. There is no room to move the ratchet.
Just mark it and drop it like I did in the video.
Awesome video mine is starting to go bad gotta get a new one and rather do it myself than pay someone
That’s right. And save some money and it’s done right! Thanks for the comment
@@motorcarnut exactly thanks for the video
15 millimeter x 2
?

Wow, mine never gave me a problem and only replaced it because it was old and I take my Jeep to extreme remote places so I keep it in top shape.
My Jeep is 13 years old and I am just now having to replace the starter.
@user-jd4uc4xm2k I know they are robust
They probably didn’t have it is probably why you’re replacing so many of them. 😂😂😂😂😂 lol joking.
What?
