Yoko Kanno is a genius. I have been touched moved and inspired by her music on many occasions. I was given the wonderful gift of being able to see her perform at Otakon 20 on August 11. It was spectacular. I just wish more people outside of the anime fandom knew who she was.
I first heard her music in the game Uncharted Waters a New Horizon 2, and, much later in life, I have been listening to plenty other of her pieces and there are so many good. Yes she touches your soul and heart, it's wonderful
I discovered her through her amazing work on Cowboy Bebop(dub and the only anime I’ve watched) I’m not an anime fan but her music is amazing and touches my heart in such a way only John Williams has with his scores. Though they are different they are what I love to throw on when I’m just feeling down and need to just let the emotions transition to calm and centered.
I love how the first song feels. It’s like finally overcoming challenges only to find more challenges waiting for you. Entering what you thought was the final stretch of the race just to round the corner and find out you’re nowhere near the end but Somehow you just have to find your peace with where you are despite it all. It never gives you that pretty, beautiful ending or resolve that it builds up to. Hard to describe but I love it so much. ‘It is what it is’ if it were a song.
Saludos desde México.
This music reminds me of how it felt to be in love for the first time. It was unrequited, and this song just captures the longing I felt to express myself to that person, but was unable to. I felt that this love I had was something beautiful, and I just wished they could feel it too. I don't know why life does this, but then again, I learned so much from that experience. It changed my life; just about crushed me, but now on the other side, I can say I'm much better for it. I grew up through it.
That deep desire to be completely open with someone...to open one's heart completely, which is now so hard to do, because of hurt...and yet when the second half of this song plays, the heart bursts open in a cathartic liberation, and I feel...I feel again that deep love I can have and do have, and an capable of feeling.

i don't see this as sad music but reflective music, it helps me get myself in order and restored. it penetrates my pores and forces the impurities to the surface to be cleansed like water being pored on top of a stain in a carpet :D.
Amen to that, it's beautiful music that makes you feel like you can just feel the happiness in your life right before something else comes along...but you always hold that moment of happiness in your heart.
The paintings.. coupled with these musical gem from kanno sensei.. everytime i see this, i get blown away, everytime. It's like getting yourself a time machine that get you back to older days as you fly across the cities on a rainy afternoon, and you see people's lives as they walk home and spent their time together with their loved ones. Splendid.
I'm in love with this Separated song. When I listen to it, I feel so hungry.. Can't remember it from the time I watched Wolf's Rain.. The paintings added a very pleasant experience.
something always comes along u want those moments to stand still u tell urself thats it keep it this way and wham! i detached myself from romantic music since my last break up 6 yrs ago i keep these memories in my heart and i bring them out in moments when i need the most cheer up. it's funny though in the past 6 yrs ive had a lot of partners that sometimes i miss that feeling of love and longing 4 some1 but i discovered these feelings dont last they dissipate hence back to romantic music again
wow amazing music dude since yoko kanno produced the soundtracks for macross i cannot help but think of the characters with this music thanks for sharing such a wonderful music i really appreciated it.
i was fascinated with watercolor paintings in high school. I tried learning how to draw for two years so i could learn to paint next, but i just couldn't grasp it. i appreaciate such masterful art
I want this song to play in my head before i enter heaven to be with my beloved best friend once again. I’m not afraid anymore because I know she will be waiting for me.
I agree; Yoko Kanno is one of the very few music composers whose music can make my whole self swell for some reason. Another composer who does that for me is Nobuo Uematsu. No music of any "classical" composer has such an effect on me. Music academics should have a good hard look at what those two, at least, can do -- this will widen their horizons!
@MindfulPerson ... who cares dude melancholic music is the best to remember our happy times even though we cannot get those moments back. i download it as well but i pick my moments where i choose to listen to it. japanese animes have some of the most melancholic music i notice i try to download as much as i can and well it helps me get away from reality and think and relax
reading this comment while listening to the second song. It all fit together. Like a movie or something. :o idk what you said just seemed deep or something xD
I haven't found the right time to use this soundtrack as part of my life's story... But it always helps me reminisce.. It's the sad music that always gets to you, man. Maybe me and my friends are just apart for now. I still don't understand why you suddenly disappeared. Where did you go? Where are you? I'm so lost without you. 5 years later I am still struggling with myself, I feel like I lost myself when I lost you. I can't decide where to go without you, I don't know if the path I chose is the right one. I can't decide, wich leads to what they call paralysis by analysis. Therefore, I am stuck in life. My life stopped when you left... I am lost without you and my life is stagnating in a plateau. But maybe this is what you are trying to teach me? Maybe you are trying to make me stand up for myself? Become an adult and chose my own path? After all these years I am trying to fix my issues, I'm learning to say no, I'm trying to understand myself like the way you did to me... Hope you are well, I'm doing my best here, see you soon.

If this woman knew how her music speaks to my heart...
In her heart she knows :)

Yoko Kanno is a real genius in musical composition... I really admire her. For somewhat reason, "Friends" remembers me Finzi's Eclogue...
I'm so happy this video is back up! I love these two pieces
Beautiful music. The painter really likes orange and reflections.
Both of my favorite Wolf's rain tracks

I believe Yoko kanno's music it's influenced by Ennio Morricone. Both are awesome.
