Outstanding pattern fella, this for me is one of those flies that showcases the pinnacle of what tying is all about. Those Wally wings are first class and with that lighter hackle throughout the herl just sets it off.
Barry have ordered a copy of your book to keep me busy whilst still in lockdown. Those wings look amazing I have already tried once and nearly made a perfect construction then one wing broke. I will continue to practice the steps carefully to be able to produce some of your lovely exciting patterns. Thanks
Hello Barry, how are you? I am a beginner new to the art of tying flys. I couldn't get it right until I can across your videos I've been watching I learned you must be patient when tying flys, thank again.
All good thanks. If you would like too take your tying to the next level: www.amazon.com/s?k=barry+ord+clarke&crid=2N4O9UMJCI3JQ&sprefix=barry+ord%2Caps%2C212&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_2_9
I know the originator of the Wally Wing, Wally Lutz. I actually have some of his original Mayflies that he gave to me at a fly club meeting. They have found their way into many patterns that we now use.
What a masterpiece! You are the Michelangelo of fly-tying since I’ve already given the title of Picasso to another fly-tier! Great job! Both of you are equally good!
I am so glad I checked your channel. For some reason I didn't get this video in my subscriptions. I unsubscribed and re-subscribed to try to make sure I get the video next time you tie a fly. I was missing your video's. I figured you were on assignment or on vacation. All the best and thanks for sharing. Sean
Thanks Robert, if you like the moose mane body, may I suggest my last book, I do a whole load of techniques with it: www.amazon.com/Feather-Benders-Flytying-Techniques-Comprehensive/dp/1510751505/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2BWDLKN3GIZ8K&dchild=1&keywords=barry+ord+clarke&qid=1630475973&sprefix=Barry+ord%2Caps%2C233&sr=8-1
Using both your book and the associated video I finally took the plunge and tied a few Wally Wings. Results not too bad although first couple of flies had wings with strange twists to them. Fish able though. Must save up for a rotatable vice!
Barry you and oliver edwards are by far my favorite folks for learning this art. in a very short time ive really grown to love tying..thank you so much...im curious...what brand of scissors do you prefer? thank you for your bobbin advice. quite happy. :)
Thank you, Barry for your videos. You are certainly the best one out there in my opinion. At 9:06 you say what kind of Hackle you use. CC says "silver bar jackal" I'm thinking that's not exactly correct. Would you please type what it is that you actually use? Happy Holidays! Many Thanks!
Hi Robert, thank you for the kind words, it's always good to get positive feedback. The hackle is a silver badger saddle hackle but I also use Golden badger for this pattern as well. Happy holidays to you too!
the tube he is using can be purchased any and hobby store that sells models and glue these are the same tips and i think they come in a packs of 10, tight lines
That is a down right beautiful fly. I'm having trouble tying the Wally Wings. I cannot get nowhere with a Mayfly without getting the Wally Wings Mastered. Any suggestions? Thanks
Thanks Mike. All you have to do is watch the video and use a small tube as I do, take your time and follow the instructions and it should go well. Good luck!
@@Thefeatherbender I got the hang of those Wally Wings. I stayed up to 3am working on that. I was trying to pull to many fibers down at one time, it kept braking off. But, I got the hang of it now. I bought me a new Renzitti Traveler 2000. I love it, it sure makes tying a lot easier than that $20 vise I have been using for two years. Thanks Again for the GREAT LESSONS. your a VERY Good instructor.
Thats not rude, USD patterns have been around for quite some time and work. When the pattern is tied correctly, it will land perfectly every single time and fish like a dream.
Thanks Barry, I expected as much, I tied up a couple just to try the technique. I live in a warm water fishery and usually fly fish for Smallmouth Bass. The bass are anything but subtle when they take a fly - none of the delicate sip of the trout, it is usually a smash and grab strike that will leave even a well tied Wulff looking abused and disheveled after a couple of fish. I like the upside down hook approach, it would be a good idea when fishing in the weeds. Cheers Barry, tight lines! Hank
Hi Dan, They are as durable as they look! Its more the technique than the pattern with Wally wings. But I always say, if it makes a difference in inducing a take, does it matter if it results in a good fish and gets destroyed ? It only takes a few minutes to tie after all.
The ww is like Icarus attracting fly fishermen and fish alike, all three left wanting as ww disintegrates at the first bite.....just can't help tying this pattern, though....repeatedly.
Why? The air flows through the wing. You can smell twisted tippet but the wings have been around for awhile and they work. They were created by an acquaintance of mine and he has great success. Try them before you denounce them.
The True Feather Bender! FANTASTIC!! 🌟
Thanks...
Barry, I hope to tie beautiful dries like you do someday - and I’m 50 already. Many thanks for your skills
You can do it!
it's an auction site
Hmm... fish it, or put it in a museum?
Outstanding techniques, presentation, and high res/contrast photography.
Thank you!

Mr. Clarke,
Thank you for sharing with us, your amazing skill and knowledge.
You are a true master sir...
So nice of you Mick, thank you.
OMG! YOU ARE AMAZING. FEATHER BENDER IS WHAT YOU ARE. I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS.
Thanks Roderick, nice to hear that you are enjoying them!
I'm new to fly fishing and had little interest in tying my own flies until now. Thank you for the inspiration!
Good luck Rodney!
Incredible techniques. Thank you.

Thanks Nick!
incredible fly. i’ve never seen this wing technique, very cool

Perfect tie! I wish you were in Aurora Colo and gave lessons! Thank you. Tight lines🦗🪰🐜!!!!!
Hi Barry, This is a technique that is completely new to me. Really great pattern! Something to fill my compartmented fly box with.
Hi Doug, thanks, its well worth trying.
What a masterpiece! You are the Michelangelo of fly-tying since I’ve already given the title of Picasso to another fly-tier! Great job! Both of you are equally good!
I have a really nice regal rotary vise I've used for years...I've never utilized the rotary function until learning your techniques here.
thanks!
Hi Silvertip, its very useful being able to utilise the rotary function, it take a little practice but once mastered its very precise and saves time.
Very nice pattern Barry and beautiful tied!! Thanks for sharing, cheers
Thanks Calle.
incredible pattern!, if the trout broke my line and keep this fly, I'll swim to catch it with my own hands!!!!!

Hi Sean, Thanks, good to be back, working hard on new books.
That is the one! Awesome Bender, thank you.
No problem Paul.
Nice! Just started playing with Wally Wings. This pattern is definitely on the “to do” list.
Good luck with it.
I bow down, great lesson !
Fantastic fly and very well explained thank you very much
So creative and skillful.
Thank you! 😊
Absolutely love this !!! I'm gonna try one
Please do!
Very impressed with using the hairs for the body, I'm off to try it.

Stunning...just absolutely beautiful
Thank you Ken.
Bonjour,
Superbe mouche , et super montage !
It's a great party! Thank you! We should try...

Thanks Len, just keep practicing, it makes perfect.
Thanks for the instruktion. My first mayfly ist ready:-)
Nice, good to know Dirk.
Stunning work of art. Tks for sharing your skills. Happy xmas
Thank you! You too!
I must say that is a very nice fly
Amazing job! What is the name of this feathers that you you to made wings?
Barry you and oliver edwards are by far my favorite folks for learning this art. in a very short time ive really grown to love tying..thank you so much...im curious...what brand of scissors do you prefer? thank you for your bobbin advice. quite happy. :)
Thank you RedDog, very kind. I use several scissors but mostly Renomed from Veniard.
Thing of beauty
Thank you Stan....
Love this Ty ! Looks like one can use 3 moose hairs in place of a quill body ?
Thanks Robert. Yes you can...
What a super pattern. It looks like it had just landed. Think I would have to practise a bit to do the wings but they look great.
Thanks Bob, its not that difficult, give it a go!
That's a amazing looking fly!!! But is there a reason u did it with the hook upside down?
Hi Wayne, thanks. Yes firstly you get the correct body shape of a mayfly dun and secondly a hook when presented up side down generally hooks better.
I'll definitely have to try this fly then because I miss a lot of bites haha
Thank you, Barry for your videos. You are certainly the best one out there in my opinion. At 9:06 you say what kind of Hackle you use. CC says "silver bar jackal" I'm thinking that's not exactly correct. Would you please type what it is that you actually use? Happy Holidays! Many Thanks!

Absolutely brilliant, mate :) 👍
Thanks J!nx.
great tie buddy
Thanks Robbie!
Amazing patern. Have to tie it too. I've only one question, can I change a moose hair over to a deer hair? What kind of consequences would it cause?
Hi Sebastian, No you can't, deer hair is too short and too brittle. You must use moose mane.
How can anyone put there thumbs down to that!
They must be exceptional fly Tyrer's or don't tye at all!
Practice makes perfect !
That is a beautiful fly! Well done :-)
Thanks Martin, I hope that you tie some up.
Once you split the feather to make the wings, aren’t they pretty fragile?
Wow...very nice!
Beautiful fly, how durable are the wings?
Thank Jon, I fish with them, but as you can imagine, they don't tolerate much of a bashing. But they do catch fish!
@@Thefeatherbender I have no doubt about that!
Do you think the curved body hook is best for extended tail flys such as may flys etc?
For the up side down presentation its best!
Talent
Thank you Tyler.

Correct!
Nice fly. This is for trout? Tight lines🐜🕷️🐛!!!!

Thats not rude, USD patterns have been around for quite some time and work. When the pattern is tied correctly, it will land perfectly every single time and fish like a dream.
@@Thefeatherbenderthanks for telling me I thought the pattern was really neat and now that I know Im going to tie a few dozen for my box
Lovely fly Barry. Did you pre soak the moose? Turned out great thanks!!
Thanks Larry, no soaking just natural.
The feather bender Super, thanks again Barry. Heavy hatches!!
Please write here the materiallist! Thank you!
Hi Eduard, the material list for all my videos is available on my website. thefeatherbender.com
Thank you very much!!! Greetings from Vienna!
Beautifully done Barry! I have always admired the wally wing but have never tried them as they look so fragile. How are they for durability? Hank
Hi Hank, and thanks. They are easily damaged when a trout wraps its lips around them, but I always feel if it works and you catch fish its worth it.
Thanks Barry, I expected as much, I tied up a couple just to try the technique. I live in a warm water fishery and usually fly fish for Smallmouth Bass. The bass are anything but subtle when they take a fly - none of the delicate sip of the trout, it is usually a smash and grab strike that will leave even a well tied Wulff looking abused and disheveled after a couple of fish. is it just the hackle that keeps this riding hook point up?
Hi Phillip, the whole construction of the fly is designed to keep it that way. Throw it up into the air and it will land the right way every time.
Whats your experience on wally wings vs other wingmaterials as far as durability is concerned?
They are not as durable as others but they catch fish!
Wow. Magnificent.
Thanks James.
Fuck! Every video is a reminder that you are a fucking genius sir!!!!!
I assume the hackle is measured to be a "size 12" hackle?
Hi Skidin, yes.
will it not turn with the hook down?? or on the side? but nice pattern
Hi Martin, no the wings will keep it upright and as the hook is curved it will always act as a keel.
U thought me so much! I just did this fly 2 days ago!
Hi Bob, good! Pleased to know that they help.
chic torn you use ?Thanks
Sorry Rafael, not sure what you mean here?

the misses said use hair spray ?
That works ... I use it on flies for framing before they go in the frame...
