Now that there are no 107/Aygo/C1, Panda, Up, Fiestas etc for sale and the cheapest Ford is near £26,000 Puma the small/cheap (@£15K !) market has been gifted to the Picanto and i10

Cracking little review, I recommended a Kia Picanto to my Mother In Law last year, she bought a 2019 Poverty Spec back in 2023 with only 2000 miles on the clock! No issues with it so far, does the job she needs it for.

I just wish I'd been born earlier. I hate the way the automotive industry is going. At least this one still has an ICE.

Having owned a 2009 1.0 litre 4 cylinder and a 2011 1.0 litre 3 cylinder up to 105,000 miles of all types of driving. On Motorways, back roads and in town I cannot fault the Kia Picanto in any way.
That 5 speed gearbox is especially sweet, even at higher mileages.

I had the previous "Mk" of GT line Picanto. It was just a "stop gap" car for me but I kept it four years. The engine was horrible (1.25) but the road holding impressed me, I could punt that through the twisties uncomfortably fast without so much as a chirp from the tyres. A very safe car that could be driven spiritedly and enjoyed and with an impressive level of equipment for a cheap car. The only issue it had was clutch judder after a damp night- absolutely awful and for that reason, I was only too pleased to trade it in this year.. for a Jimny, which is a whole load more fun..

Have had a 2014 Cerato for 9 years, love it! Decent power and a nice 6 speed old style proper auto, great air cond, decent handling, cheap servicing with a local mechanic. Shame a car like this can not be had for $20k new anymore.

My step-mum had a 1st gen faclifted KIA 'Ceed 3 as one of her motability cars, this was KIA's first car that wasn't just cheap and it has been one of the best cars she's had, though as one of them was a PT Cruiser cabrio and another a bright yellow Juke that doesn't necessarily say much!
As for small cars that are actually pretty good for space the Micra K13 is surprisingly spacious, much more space in the the back than a Juke and better sized doors. Smaller boot but with the seats down you can fit a surprising amount of Ikea stuff in it!

The Kia Picanto has really evolved beautifully over the last 20 odd years. Where I live they all seem to be automatics, but they are good entry level cars and very well equipped. It's nice to see one with a manual and small cars are always more fun with a manual.

I tell you what Matt, I presently drive a Seat Mii which I've owned seven years from new and I still like it very much. I've often thought if I had to replace it I don't know what i'd replace it with, there doesn't seem to be that many small car options now and I absolutely do not need / want an SUV. I think your Kia review may have piqued my interest!

Such a shame that they’ve completely over styled it now. We had a 68 plate X-Line S 1.25 4 cylinder and it was such a smart design that hasn’t aged a day. No lane keep assist, silly digital speedo etc either!
What a wonderful little thing. We realise we should never have sold it.

As an old Picanto owner I think it's far too fussy inside and out. I can see massive repair costs for the slightest front or rear bump.

Really like the facelift, makes the previous models look much older than they actually are. Was that the 1.2 litre engine in the GT-line car you tested?

Why are modern car designs so aggressive looking from the front ? Would all benefit from more gentle styling as 30+ years ago. Mini's, P5's, P5b's and P6's are elegant.

In Australia the Kia Picanto base model is around aud $20000 along with the MG3 but 3 years ago the Suzuki Baleno GL was the cheapest car at under aud $20000 but no longer available in Australia because no blind spot monitoring and not forgetting in the same factory in lndia they make the Toyota Starlet which is a rebadged Suzuki Baleno and any car that is associated with has to be really good and we actually own a 2017 Suzuki Baleno bought it second hand end of last year and it's 7 years old not one problem with it after all Suzuki is so much better than Kia and definitely miles ahead of Chinese MGs

I saw a piece on Fifth Gear highlighting that Kia & Hyundai seem to be the only company selling small entry level cars. What's going to happen in 5- 10 years time when new young drivers need a small car to get started. Traditional "small" cars like the yaris, micra, clio etc are now as big as what a Carola from 2000's used to be. Kia are hoping that when someone starts with their entry level cars, they will move on to their bigger cars as they "mature".

It is a nice little city car. If you are doing any decent mileage though I would probably avoid it. I haven't driven one but usually little cars will scream on the motorway. Engine being strung out, tyre noise and wind noise. Not a fun time.

The front of the car is a right mess. A shame your once quality interior walk or sit arounds
have gradually been distilled down to a frantic description whilst you're driving. Be a pity to have a head on collision just as you reach 100K subs. If you go to all the trouble of arranging and doing a review then make it worthwhile instead of throwing out the baby with the bathwater. This is my favourite channel so my feedback is said with good intentions.

I hate the styling...would much prefer if it had bug eyes, like an old Impreza, Fiat 500, or Daewoo Matiz. That being said, I would love to see more cars like this on American roads. Just a small, simple hatchback with a stick shift. Those are my favorite kinds of cars, but becoming rarer by the day on my side of the Atlantic. 🫤
