Clarence Carter is such a great blues artist. "Patches" is one of his most famous songs. I also like his songs "Slip Away" & "Too Weak To Fight".

This song is so remarkable. Intense storytelling with a great drive also because of the ladies harmonizing backingvocals.

The truth of this song is during the 20.s, 30's and 40's ... When farmers in this country died or went to war, It was always put on the eldest son to take over. But such mental toughness those boys went through made many great men in our history--Politicians, War Heroes,, Big Businessmen, Agricultural scientists, Actors and championship athletes in all sports.

I truly believe my Dad had this song in his head when my Grandfather passed. I know this song because of my Father. Love yours!

I love when someone like you of the New G's give a minute to the original pioneers. Everybody got a start somewhere. Shine on.

Great song and nice reaction. I love Clarence Carter. Try “Girl From Soweto” or “Back Door Santa”!

Clarence went to the famous Muscle Shoals recording studio and the producer suggested this song. Carter pushed back saying it was a parody of black people and simplistic. The white southern producer replied that he wrote the song and “it’s about my father”.

These young whipper snappers don’t know what good music OR what hard times are. I don’t feel a dam thing when I listen to the music today.
