I lived in Joliet when the film was made. For years afterwards you could see trashed cop cars piled up at a junkyard on I-55. My sophomore English teacher was an extra - he was one of the soldiers at the end.
The prison guard at the beginning of the movie, returning Jake's belongings is Frank Oz (The Muppets). The county clerk collecting the money and giving the receipt is Steven Speilberg.
Frank Oz - voice of so many great characters! Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, Animal, Yoda & many more!!
Yoda, he is
That was the "Queen of Soul," Areatha Franklin. There are so many stars in this movie it's amazing. The Blues Brothers began on the original "Saturday Night Live" show in 1974 with John Belushi and Dan Akroyd. They were so popular on the tv show, that they became an actual singing team, and did tours and made this movie. Pretty good for a couple of young comedians.
The whole movie is a love letter to Chicago blues, it's so respectful - stands back and lets the legends shine
White Hat street musician is Johnny Lee Hooker- famous Blues Man. The Tax Collector is Steven Spielburg!
The crazy lady that keeps trying to kill them is Carrie Fisher, best know for playing Princess Leia in Star Wars.
I had no idea she ever had another role!
@@justmeeagainn 😂😂😂
Now I feel bad for Paul Simon. He was actually married to that crazy lady!!
Awww, yeah. Reacting to The Blues Brothers is an automatic entry into my Cool Book. My all time favorite flick.
You skipped over all the best parts of this iconic movie. ALL THE MUSIC BEING PERFORMED BY LEGENDS!
Such an iconic movie. I was a young suburban kid when I first watched this, and my musical tastes were permanently improved.
Snap. The suburbs of London, England for me. I was probably twelve when I first watched it and because it was in the age of VHS I somehow got a copy and it is probably my most watched film ever.
This movie is so cool. I'm glad you chose it. Saw this at the theater when it came out. It has been one of my favorite comedy movies of all time. The guests are awesome. James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, John Lee Hooker, Cab Calloway and other. A little side note. The guard in the property room is Frank Oz. He did Fozzy the Bear on Sesame Street and Yoda in the Star Wars movies. That woman following them (Carrie Fisher) played Princess Leia in Star Wars. At that time it was also one of the most expensive movies ever made. Lol. That thing he picked up with the pencil was a used rubber.
Not to mention, all the players in the band were some of the most revered session players in the business at the time.
The genesis for the Blues Brothers, both the SNL act and the two films, came from Dan Aykroyd's personal love of the blues. And you can really see it play out in the two films, as he brings in such AMAZING talent. Cab Caloway. John Lee Hooker. James Brown (and Chaka Khan, who's the soloist in the church). Ray Charles. Aretha Franklin.
But it doesn't end there. The BAND ITSELF is composed of some amazing players like "Blue" Lou Marini, Matt "Guitar" Murphy (RIP), Steve Cropper, Donald "Duck" Dunn, and so many others.
Even if the comedy portion of the film failed, this film would have succeeded simply on the amazing talent and performances of these incredible musicians.
Blues Brothers 2000 doesn't quite measure up in terms of story but it actually raises the bar in terms of musical talent (and cars destroyed). I do strongly recommend you react to that one as well.
Steve Cropper and Donald "Duck" Dunn were half of Booker T and the MGs
This movie held the record for the most car crashes in a single movie.....until Blues Brothers 2000 came out with more!!! Also, this was the last car chase allowed to be filmed in downtown Chicago!
I guess Chicago learned their lesson, didn’t they?
🤣🤣🤣😜
The soiled prophylactic is a used rubber. The cop going through Jake's belongings is the voice of cookie monster - Frank Oz.
One of the top 10 movies of all time. All star cast, could never make another one like this today.
ADogg, my heart is broken that you didn’t know ARETHA. 💔
i knew that was her i just didnt say her name ms patti
@@darealadogg hahaha. You are the MOST fun.
@@patticriss2238 yeah he says that but still think he wasn't really aware who she was at first. After all, he did mention James Brown straight away when he saw him!
Still loving this movie. One of the best music soundtracks.Good choice ADOGG.
I'd forgotten that there were so many iconic stars in The Blues Brothers. Fantabulous 👌👏 I'm going to have to watch the whole thing now 😍🙌
These Clips of the movie does not do the movie justice. Fantastic cult movie. Everytime it's on I watch it. I should buy the cd
So many great Blues and Rock musicians in this time period. So glad for this movie.
This movie is basically two things:
- BRILLIANT music (performed by awesome musicians)
- car crashes
Blues brothers 2000 has great music RIP BB King !
One of my faves! Glad you enjoyed
This is the best movie a pope has ever recommended.
This is the best plotless film ever made. Best soundtrack ever
Huh? This movie had one of the most obvious (and overused) plots of all time... Save the orphanage from impending doom. Everyone from Clint Eastwood to the Three Stooges has saved an orphanage on the silver-screen... Granted, the soundtracks and overall destruction could never hold a candle to the Blues Brothers.
@@_Common_Logic_ Churches don't pay taxes - plot hole #1. After that it falls apart. Best movie soundtrack ever
@@larryk731 - "Plot hole"? Have you seen "Back to the Future" or ANY western out there that squeezed 30 rounds out of a 6-shot revolver? Blues Brothers made a Ford Pinto do a back-flip😆
In what world (including "Wayne's World") does absurdity, or inaccuracy negate a plot?
That being said, you may want to look up the (1970's) laws... Tax exemptions for buildings used "solely and exclusively for religious worship" did not always cover separate organizations such as a stand-alone orphanage.
Some of the laws were amended to orphanages housing more than 20 orphans, along with other criteria which had to be met. Laws that were (in the late '80s) again amended to cover a wider spectrum. "Churches don't pay taxes" is a widely overused, and often misused statement.
Regardless; The iconic movie was silly, it sounded great, and DEFINITELY had a plot.
@@larryk731 That was an orphanage.
Take a shot every time they say we're on a mission from God 😂
Trains put me to sleep too. My Grandparents' house was so close to the tracks that we had to look both ways before we backed out of the garage. 🤣
I've been watched this movie a million times (almost) and watching you discover it for the first time has me smiling like a fool!!!
Blues Brothers 2000 has even more great music including B.B. King, Bo Diddley, Eric Clapton, Eryka Baddu
And Travis Tritt, Eric Clapton, John Popper...
They had and I went to it, a concert in Memphis while I was there (for Avionics training) in the Marine Corps back in 1980 🙂
John Belushi was one of those overweight guys with limitless energy, talent and physical agility that couldn't be beat!
I’m thinking it was the cocaine fueling that.
Detroit in the eighties! Some of the band are famous musicians in their own right. See the credits for their names.
He probably wouldn't recognise most of them!
I've been watching this movie for 40 years and for 40 years I've been trying to find a problem with the soundtrack. I've come to believe there is absolutely nothing wrong in the soundtrack, at all.
The woman with the guns is Carrie Fisher- Princess Leia of the "Star Wars" series.
Born and raised in Joliet! Always nice to see my hometown, even though it is mostly just the Collins Street prison. My college drama professor was the shorter of the two prison guards at the beginning, the one whacking the bars with the club.
I was 12 years old when in 1980 I kept nagging my parents to allow me to go see a movie because Princess Leia was in. They allowed me to go see it on my own... And from the very opening notes of Matt "Guitar" Murphy droning that A# and the horn section coming in The Blues Brothers changed my life. I took a hammer to m piggy bank that very night and bought the soundtrack the next day. I took up guitar lessons a week after and to this day 40 years later I'm still playing the blues. So thank Carrie Fisher for taking that role, without her I'd have become a square.
The brothers saw the nun as supernatural so it was all in their heads.
You are so young that you didn't even notice a lot of the huge stars in this movie!
Unfortunately, that wasn't all he missed. I'm guessing that about 40% of this movie "grew wings" and flew over his head. Any man that age should know what a prophylactic is... It was at that point, I realized it was gonna be a long one. 😬🙄
Great movie 🎥 with an amazing soundtrack
😱 OMG OMG OMG I can’t wait to see how much you live this movie….. be right back, gotta get popcorn. 👍🏼👍🏼
The band was the best of the the best!
You don't really sleep when you're in prison. You heard of one eye open that's pretty much it
Their "Live in concert" album rocks!
A great movie.
I think I musta seen this movie a thousand times. It never gets old.
So true!
It remains my most watched film ever too. Near perfect.
Well, he IS The Godfather, right? James Brown. King of Soul.
“Godfather of Soul”...right?
One of my all time favorites. Thanks to my father. I was born in 88 and love this movie/music
The Illinois Nazis were a thing back in the day -- there's a community named Skokie not far from Chicago that has a heavily Jewish population, and the Nazis in the area marched on the town.
Most reactors don't get the reference (then again most reactors weren't alive at the time this film was being made). In 1978 there was a very famous Supreme Court case pertaining to the First Amendment where the Court ruled that the Nazi Party had the right to march in Skokie, Illinois. (As the poster above mentioned Skokie had a large Jewish population which was a factor in making the whole situation a complete shitstorm.) The Court made the right decision when the factors involved are viewed in a large scale though it is a sucky result on the small scale.
@@88wildcat What wildcat said!
One of the greatest movies ever!
My favorite musical of all times.
I'm a car guy there's a guy that I think he lives in Texas but I'm not sure he restores TV cars he actually restored the Bluesmobile police car and made it look exactly like in the movie even though it's a brand new paint job he gave the details of it looking run down like the car you see in the movie
Best movie chase scene ever filmed, bar none.
Their waiter was Pee Wee Herman...
How big a star was Belushi? He had the number 1 tv show, movie and album, all at the same time!
Well don’t forget Dan…
I had forgotten that John candy was in this movie ... early in His career
Carrie Fisher, most famous for Star Wars Princes Leia.
That woman who keeps trying to kill those two with bazookas and such is Carrie Fisher....Princess Leia of Star Wars...in the theaters at the time, that's what made the joke so hysterical. 1princess Leia trying to kill John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd, who were the original member of the Saturday Night Live cast in the 1970's. john died in 1982. He has a younger brother Jim who became famous as a comedic and serious actor. This is a great comedy movie but better was the cast being so diverse, working together no matter what race , no separatism, to make us all laugh so hard together and with great musical performance. To me the greatest gift was seeing Cab Calloway, at age 71, act and perform Minnie the Moocher, a major hit of his from way back...he was from the 1920 through 1940's, and he still had IT. It revived his career in retirement, and us college students/graduates realized how cool he was. I don't think he ever expected the response he got from doing that movie. Street musician was the real deal, John Lee Hooker, blues artist. Matt Murphy, famous guitarist, Aretha Franklin [you didn't recognize her when she was taking their food order? For heaven's sake!] the Nazi leader is comedian Henry Gibson, TV and movies. the guy in the sauna is Steve Lawrence, famous singer often seen singing with his wife Edie Gormet, esp on the old TV shows like Ed Sullivan [variety show] in the 1950's and 1960's. Blonde girl with British accent at the gas station is Twiggy, a 1960's fashion model who was quite famous at the time. It was hysterical who turned dup for a bit part in this movie at the time. At the end Stephen Spielberg, famous director/ producer, as the tax office clerk.
Black Jack County Chains....Willie Nelson. Song from the
early 60's.
Aretha Franklin was the resturant owner that sang.
Oh heck. Forgot twiggy was in it
Oh this is going to be fun. 😁
SO many stars doing cameos in this movie! Fun! 😆
It was fun watching your reactions to this movie. The movie is hilarious 😂.
Fantastic movie but much better reactions to it on YT.
We're on a mission from God 🤣🤣🤣
Aretha Franklin, the queen of soul.
The amount of auto and property damage in this movie is still unmatched!
THE Tick Tock. It was a nightclub. :)
Aretha Franklin was really good 🙂you may like to react to the SNL sketches they did - John Belushi Breakfast donuts🙃 I want to recommend you also react to Forrest Gump, Litle Miss Sunshine, Speed, & The Goonies😉
F.Y.I. in the beginning Sister says the church owes $5000. I today’s money that is $18,010.19. ALSO: the waitress was Aretha Franklin.
WOWWW, YOU DID A NIIICCCEEE! 45 MIN. PLUS REACTION ON THIS DOGG, THATTTSSSS HOW YOU DO IT FOR SURE! 😊AND THIS IS A TIMELESSSS CLASSIC NO DOUBT! 😊
You didn’t recognize Aretha Franklin. She was the woman in the diner singing and telling her husband he better think before running off the The B.B.
EXTRA Fun Fact:
During the Mall sequence, the Brothers ENTER thru 'Toys R Us' and EXIT from 'J.C. Penny'.
Consider their remarks about space and store offerings.
Five years later...
'Back to the Future' ENTERS a dirty town with a 'Toys R Us' near Doc Brown's garage and EXITS that dirty town near a 'J.C. Penny' store at...
The MALL!!!
The Social Engineering of Urban Sprawl in the 1980s was impacted greatly by what we all saw through tv and films.
Spend...buy, spend...buy!
Why do adults in 2024 dress and PLAY more like children from the 1980s?
'J.C. Penny' sold CLOTHING.
'Toys R Us'...yeah.
Wake up ppl.
Wait, Steven Spielberg has a cameo in The Blues Brothers and CO PRODUCED...
Back to the Future. 🤔🤔🤔
The guy at the end stamping the receipt is Steven Spielberg.
That’s Princess Leah
You know that's the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin playing the diner waitress and singing her big hit song, Think! What a performance!
The cast is amazing! So many amazing blues superstars from Cab Calloway to John Lee Hooker and on! A unique movie. Even Frank Oz (aka Yoda aka Grover).
If you like the music, I recommend "The Commitments." It is very different but wonderful. About a bunch of out of work Dubliners who form a band playing Soul music. Many actors were chosen as much for their musical skills as their acting skills. Only famous actor I know of in it is Maria Doyle Kennedy (I know her from The Tudors and Orphan Black). But here you get to hear her sing and she is amazing.
An exchange from the movie when the manager introduces them to the Soul theme (using a video of James Brown):
"Don't you think we're a little...well WHITE for this kind of music?"
"You don't get it. The Irish are the blacks of Europe. The Dubliners are the blacks of Ireland. And the North Dubliners are the blacks of Dublin. So say it once and say it proud, 'I'm black and I'm proud!'"
Cult classic & great album!!
Buckle-up kid, and enjoy. It's a great movie!
There was an R&B act here in Kansas City called 'Four Fried Chickens and a Coke.'
My mother went to Catholic school in the 1960s. She said that how the nuns seamed like to hear as a child. She almost peed herself laughing when she saw the seen for the first time
Thanks for sharing, was 11 when I saw this back in the day🙏👍✌️🇺🇸
The new Oldsmobiles are in! 🤣😂🤣
Great movie, real musicians all over🔥😎❤️🎥❤️
Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, John Lee Hooker. The soundtrack is top notch
Thank you for watching the cinematic and comedic brilliance.
The best comedy ever
I don’t know if anybody mentioned Cab Calloway before The Blues Brothers went on Cab Calloway is an absolute icon
It is a comedy--It’s not supposed to make sense! Full of stars like Aretha Franklin was the cafe’ owner at the very beginning.
She's wonderful! Kathleen Freeman! I thought at first she was Louise Fletcher! Carrie Fischer! Paul Reubens! 🤣Henry Gibson! Aretha Franklin! Ray Charles! There's so many famous people in this movie, I don't know who all of them are, but I know they're famous cause they're in this movie!
There is a blues brothers 2000 that came out in 98” you will also love.
I'm disapointed that so many people who reacted to this movie don't know BB king or cab calloway.
That's pretty bad, but I'd be disheartened if they didn't know ANY of the celebrity artists! And John Candy! 😢😢
Love this movie!
Awesome reaction.
THE G.O.A.T.S.
🤙🔥🤙🔥🤙
Carrie was with John Belushi at the time. So many great cameos and so much great music. Glad you enjoyed it.
Actually she was with Ackroyd. Ackroyd proposed to her during filming but eventually she got back together with Paul Simon instead. If you want to know how that eventually turned out listen to Simon's song Heart and Bones. It's all about their relationship and how it ended. Landis actually tried to keep Fisher away from Belushi when they weren't on camera. Fisher had just been through rehab and Landis actually had to include a cocaine budget for Belushi so the whole production had the potential to be like throwing a lit match into a fireworks factory.
The beginning of the film shows how polluted th air was back in the seventies lol!!!
There are so many great musicians and songs in this movie. Hopefully enough young people will see it and be forever influenced.
A few more funny ones are 9-5, Arthur, Animal House, Tootsie and Seems Like Old Times.
it's illegal to apply logic to this film.
When this movie came out, pushing cars to a gas station was a very recent memory for everyone who had lived through the gas crisis of the late 1970's. Cars were more push-able back then, too.
I like to imagine this movie is a true story.
I have both! Gotta check out Blues Brothers 2000!
If you want to do movies, don't cut away from them so often. Other than that, good job.
you have to cut out some scenes because of copyright and mostly the music ones
