      @@downwind_drifter No I’m on Gofoil foils and a One Egg Board ,I’m 63yrs and on the downwind journey
      I’m managing 1.5 kms on fiol so getting there 🤙

      I’ve only tried the go foils a few times, but a couple friends have had good success with them dw.

    Great video. I've recently made the leap from the 1300PNG to the 1100 Spitfire and its a great fun wing for my local DW runs, seems perfect for my rate of progression. More recently changed the rear from a 300p to a 35 Skinny and so far seems like quite an uograde! Has unlocked a heap speed range, and the pump acceleration is really noticeable - extended glide is no longer required.

      @@elbastos3rd there’s likely some room in your quiver for another skinny!
      The 45 or 50 skinny is very versatile and might give you just a touch more feel with your 1100 spitfire.
      That’s a huge jump going from the 1300 PNG to the 1100 Spitfire! Well done, making that work! I would say you also have room for the 1180 Spitfire for 1201 art pro… as an in between.

      Cool, thanks for the advice. That's interesting that you say that, currently I'm still in the honeymoon phase with the 35 and can't see any down sides! A couple of times I've gone back to the 300p and it felt way too draggy, which is ridiculous as it used to feel as amazing as the 35 does now. I got the impression that rear wings were a one way journey...
      Luckily we've been gifted with some quite reasonable to excellent conditions since I switched to the 1100. I've still reverted back to the 1300 on a couple of marginal days, and have been considering something like a 1201 to replace it as you suggest. At the same time, I've been quite impressed by how easily the 1100 gets going, and want to see how low I can push it (72kg dry). It's a tough choice to gamble ending up in a struggle bus session.😅

      @@elbastos3rd I’ll get back to you, but I’d replace the 1300 with the 1401 if you can find one cheap… it’s an excellent low end foil that is fun to learn to pump.
      There’s likely room even for the 1201 between the 1100 and the 1401! But I’m a foil Addict so take that with a grain of salt…
      Stabs are not a one way journey, it’s a very circular journy that keeps going around 😅 all the skinnies have their place for me, but no longer the progressives it seems to me now.

    Really interesting last comment on longevity and stretching and I think it would be really valuable if you made a video on what you do to take care of this! I’ve had lower back pain for the last 18months that’s made worse by foiling. I think it’s from 3 years of frequent foiling without stretching. After seeing a really good physio I’ve worked out that over tight glutes, hip flexors and quads are pulling my spine into a very abonormal shape and limiting its flexibility - now on the route to recovery with a good daily stretching program.

      @@toms74094ts I’m likely in the same boat as you… i do basic stretches and mobility and rely on my excellent masseuse who I try visit every 3 weeks or so. She manages to solve any issues I take to her in 1 session often involving dry needling… ouch.
      I like your idea, I’ll see if she will let me film a session and sharing of her knowledge.

    @downwind_drifter , thanks for the idea on the shim. Would be great to only worry about downward pressure. Two questions: 1, How much does the stab size (45 vs 55 for example), affect stall speed? 2, Is that about a 50L dry backpack? Thanks.

      It’s hard to answer, but I’ll try.
      The smaller rear itself seems to stall a bit earlier, as in, at low speed it feels like it’s not there… pitch becomes twitchier if pressing through the rear of the system.
      The benefit is that the rear has less drag and won’t bring you down to those speeds as quickly.
      The bigger rear is more present at the lower speeds and offers more of a platform or larger fulcrum, the down side being at low speed it has more drag and you can decelerate faster.
      I’m learning that at my level, non pro, the rears should be matched to the front foil and conditions. A pro can get away with a small rear at all times as they have expert reactions and such.
      There’s always some sort of cost or trade off at the moment for me.
      A bigger rear offering good lift and ease of use will affect the turn feel of a smaller front foil, I hate this feeling currently.
      A small rear with a bigger front foil will be out of tune with the big front foil at a lot of speeds. At low speed the rear will be less active removing low end feel and at high speed the front foil will be dragging and halting its speed while the small rear is not doing much at all besides creating less drag.
      So currently I’m a firm believer in matching the correct sizes of front foils to stabs! But that is for my riding style.
      When I look at conditions now I’ve built enough experience to know what setup will function optimally for me 😅 I have vids coming that somewhat show this as I experiment of different runs with different gear trying to solve this exact issue in waves and bumps!

      @@darylremmler705 that’s likely close to the perfect size! We are thinking about buying a 45 too, I seemed to have cut all mine down into oblivion.
      The 55skinny has been good for my bigger foils in Fiji when the 40 just doesn’t cut it in the slow bumps.
      You’ve reminded me to try my 325 progressive… I’ve nearly used it a bunch but always pick the 55 instead. I’ll try use it today 😎

    Shims…hmmm. From podcasts and reading it seems that most foil setups are designed for somewhere around 85kg riders.
    So for a lighter rider like me at 65kg, an un-shimmed rear foil is somewhat similar to a positive shim for a heavier rider. Or is it - should a lighter rider simply use a smaller rear foil than a heavier rider and shim appropriately? Does that then have the effect of reducing pitch stability?
    This is where I confuse myself 😂

      @@jonathancowcher7482 I think you would also want to match the front foil down to your weight. That will play a huge role and will remove the sensitivity of changing the stabiliser.
      Feeling the Foil pressures is so individualised… We could be riding the exact same setup and both be the exact same weight and size but I might like the pressure coming through my back leg more, and you your front leg, and all of a sudden none of our communications or beta will work for each other! Let alone actually swapping pieces of Kat.
      I would say a lighter rider probably wants to find the front foil that suits them most and then match the corresponding rear Foil to what feels correct.
