Wd40 is a great tool for removing tar and contaminants from just about anything. The only thing I would say is to use a specific tar remover on paint work as wd40 can blemish the paint work on some paint styles. I would also say never use it on single stage paint on older cars. But wheel barrels and in the wheel arches, on mud flaps etc nothing better than wd40 for a quick cheap solution.

Thanks for the tip on using WD40. I have been using car polish with no success.

yes hayfire, it's not wise to pick up a sponge full of rocks and rub it on your vehicle, just make sure there is not any rocks on the sponge as you apply it the the paint.

Yeah I was cringing when you left the sponge on the ground then started wiping over you paint 😬 use a few old clean microfibre towels would be better and don't leave them on the ground

Rule no 1: Never put a sponge on the ground and then use on the paint of a car. Bad idea. You guess why.

anywhere between 30 seconds to a minute depending on how much tar your working with. I let it sit on my truck for 15-30 seconds and it wiped right off

WD40 will hurt the paint, i did my own research before debadging my BMW. I wanted to know what would remove the leftover adhesive. After visiting endless motor vehicle detailing forums i came to the conclusion WD40 is a NO NO, as it eats the clear coat over time.

WD-40 is mainly mineral spirits, perhaps with some other ingredients.

It has a use, but only if scuffing to completely strip old finishes for a re-paint.
