    FYI you need PETG or ASA filament for your backplate if you don't want it to warp, PLA and PLA+ both have low melting points. Hence why your backplate is warping.

    • @cppctek
      @cppctek  8 месяцев назад +1

      Ah gotcha. So far the pla+ is perfect for the main backplate but the spot over the nvme is def just too spicy since it can hit 90c without a heatsink on. I finally figured out a really wonky but effective way to modify the stl file so i can have my hestsink attached without it being janky or double sided taped. The pla+ on the main backplate hasn’t warped at all so hopefully it should be good. I do have some petg set aside just in case. I’ve yet to try printing with petg so I may need to experiment. Thanks for the heads up !

    • @xThree65x
      @xThree65x 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@cppctek Makes sense tht it would where the heatsink is for sure. I am just curious how it holds up over time with longer gaming sessions. Also be careful of leaving it in direct sunlight, that will also destroy PLA. PETG & ASA are harder to print for sure because the require higher temperatures to melt the plastic. You will want an enclosed printer for best results. It is possible to print PETG without an enclosed printer just increases the difficulty of it. I have a Bambu Labs X1 that I use and it prints beautiful.

    • @cppctek
      @cppctek  8 месяцев назад

      @xThree65x sweet thanks. Yeah Bambu is the best by far. I love my a1 mini. I’ve got a make shift enclosed space it’s in. Keeps temps stable when printing. I’m having a hard time modifying files and adding and subtracting shapes. Got any free programs you know of that I don’t need a graphic design degree to figure out ? So far all of them have my last 2 brain cells struggling so bad and I end up cave manning the process by hand with hand tools and hacking things up because at least I know how to achieve the end result. There no good guides I’ve found for entry level people. It’s always building industrial architecture for people with 17 masters degrees and infinite money to spend on programs lol. 😂

    • @xThree65x
      @xThree65x 8 месяцев назад

      @@cppctek The only one that comes to mind is Plasticity that has a free 30 day trial. If you want anything worth having you will end up paying some money for it. And to be able to edit a STL with any sort of luck you will need to convert it into either a nice polygon mesh or a parametric design so that you can edit it correctly. I use Fusion 360 and sometime its able to convert some STL back into parametric designs that you can then work with. It could be possible to do with this design. The honey comb venting may throw it for a loop however. Both Plasticity and Fusion 360 have a high learning curve it you do not have much experience modeling or using programs like this. So don't be to hard on yourself. I have been doing it for close to 16 years now and I still have brain farts all the time when trying to find a solution for modeling something.

I was thinking about putting a bigger one on mine (Or a bunch of small ones) when I do the backplate so it'll cover all the way up to the vapor chamber if it helps lower temps, possibly even put a small fan like you had inside the case, but put it on the outside (Like you did with the OG Ally) blowing onto the heat sink. What about a mod to adapt an oculink port to the nvme slot. Then the sd can be your os.

    • @cppctek
      @cppctek  8 месяцев назад

      Windows running off an sd sucks so bad on so many levels. It’s like 3 layers of hell. People who have used it if you ask the questions they avoid talking about they’ll expose it. Transfer speeds slow. Lots of blue screens after a few months, data losss happens, major bottleneck downloading updates. Updates take hours instead of mins, game downloads will take hours as well unless your gunna carry around a spare external nvme but then the usb ports are known to randomly drop out so playing cod off external drive would suck and corrupt files. It’s not ideal. Theory sounds good tho. The best solution for getting occulink is using a really crazy cool board concept I’ve seen done. Drop by my discord. A few guys have links 🔗 to the project. It will split the pcie lanes but still give enough to make an nvme 2230 fit and a occulink port. Originally for the rog ally but can be used on the legion

    • @danielhulan3058
      @danielhulan3058 8 месяцев назад +1

      @cppctek if you split the pcie lanes though, does that just negate the use of oculink? Oculine will run at about 60ish gbs while usb 4 will run 40.

    Hey bro are you going to make a video comparing frame rates from the stock 16gb of ram to the upgraded 32gb? We would love that and there aren't any videos on the difference. Was wondering if the upgrade was worth it

    • @cppctek
      @cppctek  6 месяцев назад +1

      I don’t want to pay thr 300$ to upgrade the ram untill I see proof it doesn’t cause issues or make fps worse. What’s super duper sus is I’ve had several people pop in and out of my community who claim they paid the guy for the ram
      Upgrade and they’d be back to show me results. They never come back. Ever. It’s sus. Also there’s only now one guy I know of who’s doing the service as the other guy closed his shop and made a RUclips video about it saying he was loosing too much money which likely means customers were sending things back.
      Lastly it’s not a diy mod or even close because the amount of direct heat needed to remove ram chips because they are bga soldered is INSANE. You need a board heater to preheat the board plus you need a hot air reflow station not to be confused with a heat gun or soldering iron. I’ve tried bga soldering before with a 300$ hot air rework station on a few dead gpus and omg that stuff is 100000000000x harder than the pros lead you on to think by watching them do it like it’s easy. Trust me it’s not and I’m actually extremely experienced with soldering and have been soldering for 30+ years. It’s not easy. Then lastly you have to remove the bios chip and re flash it with a flasher every time a bios update comes out. It’s insane. It’s 100% insane. Plus let’s just assume the mod improved fps… which in theory would if done right and there’s no dead chips or badly binned chips and timings got worse .. it should work better right ? Well then why wouldn’t everyone be shouting at the mountain tops with proof and trying to tell everyone it worked and they are happy with doing it? I’d also it worked well …. It’s a money maker for the person selling the mods right? Why wouldn’t you want people to see proof because if you read the comments on the person doing the mod service…. Everyone’s begging for proof lolol. Everything screams scam to me after it’s been nearly a year with not a single person coming out with a video showing it works. Seems people might be battling with this or maybe it fails or maybe they got badly binned chips or failing chips. I can only assume the worst after a year with no one not a single
      Soul being positive and showing real benchmarks

    I really wish that these portable handhelds had defaulted to 32GB of RAM, we are in 2024 and a lot of games nowadays require 8GB of RAM as the minimum spec, and some are even going up to 12 and 16GB, but because the OS uses about 4GB with these devices you are basically left with only 12GB of usable RAM, which makes it a horrible experience in some cases, and that's the only reason why I think the WIN GPD and Ayaneo devices are far superior, since with those at least you get options other than 16GB of RAM.

    Looks cool but I wanted a stock appearance so I went with the vertical adapter with a low power drive. The Lexar NM790 4TB lists a peak power draw of 4.1W and the highest temp I've seen on it under load is 75C. Idles at 35 and best of all, it doesn't look like I've altered it at all. It's also a dual sensor drive and that's the highest temp.

    • @cppctek
      @cppctek  9 месяцев назад

      75c in an nvme drive is kinda hot though keep in mind. Refer back to my video a while back where I spoke with drive manufactures. Running them at 75c long term will degrade them a little faster and cause some thermal
      Throttling as well

    • @Invid72
      @Invid72 9 месяцев назад

      @@cppctek Yeah, that's why I went with the Lexar. It's not the fastest drive (though it does hit the PCIe gen 4 max of 7000MB/s) but it is one of the lowest power drives, especially for a gen 4 drive. The SMART data in the firmware lists a warning temp of 90C and I'm well below that at my max so I'm not worried about it. By the time the drive dies it'll be obsolete and it has a 5 year/3000TBW warranty just in case. The other reason I didn't go for one of the 90 degree adapters is because they all seem to force you down to gen 3 speeds.

    Please do metal liquid on legion go!!!

    • @cppctek
      @cppctek  8 месяцев назад +1

      Lolol absolutely not. I don’t want to end my devices life. Liquid Metal is actually not going to help much at all on such a small die and also there’s not enough mounting pressure to or any way to keep it in place. Liquid Metal becomes liquid when hot wnd since it’s a handheld your going to be moving it around. And using it at diff angles. Therefor increasing the chances it leaks out and shorts out. It is very conductive as its metal. It’s the worst idea ever. Period. There’s a reason. NO ONE does it on handhelds and there’s a season your even seeing people remove Liquid Metal and go back to paste or kryosheets. It’s not safe and let’s say hypothetically you did do it, you’d need to coat the capacitors and inductors and every single components on the apu and around the apu with clear fingernail Polish because that stuff will eventually leak out and short it out. If you don’t care about your device and you don’t use it in the hand then go for it. It’s not as risky on desktops because the CPUs are much larger and there’s much more room to coat and protect and they aren’t moving around

It’s not as easy as picking up a 40$ soldering iron and heating it up. It’s extremely difficult to do bga soldering and takes a lot of experience. Keep in mind I’ve done bga soldering before. I own a hot air re work station. I’m most definitely not going to attempt it because I’ve seen even experienced guys who do this for a living burn up rog ally boards when they first tried them. It has to get way hotter than you’d think. Also you risk desoldering other components on the board as well even with a lot of kapton tape. I’ve got a pretty nice 200$ hot air re work station and by the time you can melt the solder under those vram chips you’ve probably burned the board up. You have to crank these things to the maximum heat setting and they don’t speak on the videos on how hard and how hot you have to get it. It makes it look easy but it’s far from it. It’s by far the most risky thing and that’s why they charge hundreds of dollars to do it. They know the skill needed. Humbly they don’t brag about the skill level needed. I wish they would brag about that a bit so that people don’t get the wrong idea it being simple and easy and can be done with tools on Amazon and then they attempt it and burn it up. Oh also windows uses a ton of ram by itself and if you look in windows the amount avail is far less than 13gb even with the 3gb limit set

      I think you seriously underestimate the modding community. My discords pretty packed with modders and so is Reddit. Also modding doesn’t void warranty unless you’re permanently destroying something that causes a failure. If modding isn’t your thing that’s fine. We all share different interests. Modding this handheld changed the game for me and if you’ve followed my channel for any time you’ll know we mod everything to bring out the best experience possible sparing nothing. Plus the warranty is up on the legion go I own and I could care less about a warranty if it’s no longer a thing lol

      Ptm is very very sticky. It’s also really good about not peeling off easy and sticking together , then you don’t get as even with core to core deltas if your application becomes clumpy from it folding over on itself. It’s also not really great at being re used either. Also cutting it sometimes it likes to tear as well. I’m not an idiot like your implying. Ask anyone who’s ever used kryosheets and they are sold for life. Gamers nexus is a massive fan of them

      No I am sorry I don’t offer modding service. Also the 32gb ram mod is EXTREMELY HARD and even me being a soldering guy I know my skill limit would destroy a board even trying to do that mod. You also need a few hundred dollars in equipment to do it. A board heater, a hot air reflow station (not a heat gun) you don’t even use a soldering iron. You need a straight up hot air re work station and none of the 100$ Amazon units can get that ram hot enough to un solder the balls under them. It’s extremely difficult. The RUclips guy who does it makes it look easy but he doesn’t show how many times he’s done it and how much practice it took to get to that level of skill. Zero chance ever I’d ever attempt it lol. I’ve tried bga soldering once with a 100$ hot air re work station and ripped several pads trying to remove the ram. You and anyone else without the right equipment and experience with bga type soldering would destroy the board for sure. I also don’t want the liability

    • @cppctek
      @cppctek  3 месяца назад +1

      If it was user serviceable I would do it. I actually know one of the people who offer the service. It cost several hundred dollars like 300-400$ because of the amount of specialized equipment and skill needed to do it.
      Here’s what you need that the videos won’t tell you. They want you to think it’s easy so you try it yourself and break your device and send it to them when you fail and they charge double then
      1: board heater to heat the motherboard itself 100-500$
      2: hot air reflow station (no soldering iron or heat gun will even come close to getting the chips hot enough to remove) 200-500$
      3: the memory chips 90$ or so last I checked
      (Pray you get a good batch as most as salvaged old chips)
      4: lots of experience doing bga soldering, bga balls and grid to align them
      5: microscope
      6: bios flasher
      It isn’t easy but the guys who made videos doing it have done it hundreds of times and leave out a lot of the nuances and risk.
      Many times you don’t get lucky with ram and have to re do it and every time you heat the board up hot enough to de solder the chips you run a strong risk of burning up the board or damaging components which has happened.
      Theres too much risk for too little reward.

    • @cppctek

      I beg to differ. It’s all about properly tuning the system and the games. It took a ton of fafo to get everything the way I like it playing mw3 smooth af at 100-120fps at 1200p. Many people’s guides I followed simply didn’t have the results I wanted. I fafo with everything. It’s extremely enjoyable now. I’ll share some gameplay and benchmarks soon. I’m finishing up the watercooling rog ally project now.

      @cppctek No matter what you do, Idk if you will be able it play mw3 online at 1600p with 144hz and think it will run smoothly on that thing without an external graphics card or something. lol actually all these mods are really reversible, upgrading nvme and backplate won’t void warranty unless your careless and damage it or permanently mess it up which has never happened. I’ve been modding consoles and pc’s for 30+ years ;) trust me lol. But also the warranty is about to be out on my legion go and my ally. I dont live in fear of a warranty lol. I’m the kind of guy who buys a brand new car and drops 5k in mods and instantly enjoys it to the max. That’s what modders do. Someone’s gotta pioneer the way. Thankfully there’s a masssssive amount of other people who also do the same things. If you want to explore modding there’s tons that won’t void warranty at all
