Justin is a fucking amazing drummer. His work on 'Cause = Time' is incredible. Andrew, Kevin, and Brendan are also amazing. What a group of incredible musicians.
I forgot how long these sets were. We (the audience) would be getting tired and Kevin sensing this would say “you paid good money to come see us, we’ll give you lots of music”. One of the great bands of our time.
1:59:12 audially and visually astounding. It's not the stage lights, but how they perform their song with such passion and joy... jumping about and throwing smiles to everyone... If only i were on the actual show. :(
Wow. Listening to the albums, I never imagined these were songs that could actually be performed. All those layers made me assume it was studio magic. Amazing to finally see it.
Why did this band not get big? I don't understand. They not only have fucking excellent music but they had the overwhelmingly positive from critics AND their music has been used in popular movies like Scott Pilgrim. what the fuck?
My first concert of BSS was in late 2005 and I can swear you that I forgot my name and where I was for sometime... One of the best show ever. Btw Justin Peroff is a drummer genius!!!
+xseq xqwe I believe you, I "am" also a drummer, well I was and had several bands. Justin is one of the best drummer I have even seen! He's mesmerizing, talented and can make you forget about where you are, it's about feelings of course, feelings make it all! Go Justin!!!
I've been watching this nightly before bed for years now. Usually Art House Director, Meet Me In The Basement, Anthems, Almost Crimes and Major Label Debut. I'm an emotional mess every time I watch.
Ariel and Feist are like when Joey Castillo had to play Dave Grohls parts on "songs for the deaf" when on queens of the stone age; colossal drummer, an absolute beast but he had to cover god and was always one tiny millimeter behind. Same happens here, Feist is just a force of nature whereas Ariel needs to work hard for it. Again it really doesn't mean shit as Ariel is stupidly good; seen her with BSS live in Glasgow and I left the venue with the feeling of having seen the best live ever. That only happened to me when I saw Daft Punk in Madrid back in 2007
I've seen BSS live 16 times dating back to 2003 (I live in Toronto hence so many shows) and I think Ariel is really great at HER songs that she has done lead vocals on in the more recent years (like Stay Happy). But she isn't as good on the Emily/Feist/Lisa songs. In reality the most versatile of all their female vocalists is Amy Milan. She can kind of sing all the songs that have female vocals really well. I LOVE Emily and Feist but they have really distinctive vocal styles at time that can be hard to replicate but Amy can handle them fine.
@@jacquesmesrine8031 Daft Punk in 2007, right before the world economy pretty much collapsed and there was still some genuine hope left in the air. Must have been an incredible show. In Madrid of all places wow.
Wow, this evoked some strong memories. I remember setting an alarm for this for the live broadcast. Saw BSS in Victoria the previous October, would see them one more time in Salmon Arm at the Roots & Blues Festival in the summer. I sometimes think I saw them three times that tour, always kinda forgetting this was a webcast. Anyway, awesome to see this again. Concert was and still is amazing.
They actually played Stars And Sons and "Ooo Baby Baby" (Smokey Robinson cover) with Here We Go Magic for an encore after the camera's were shut off. Would have been great to see that and Lisa doing Swimmers.
Nice to see this now. I tired so hard to get into this band when they first came out, but I just didn't get it. Listening to it now, I really enjoy it. Better late than never, I guess.
It was originally a duet with his lover at the time, Feist. I think they both wrote the song. I'm also fairly certain they're no longer 'together', so it's just awkward for Kevin now, I guess (understandably).
This is an amazing concert by these guys. My favourite band to this day. There used to be a showt by BSS on YT. Live, at a kind of homecoming thing in the daytime/early evening (Could have been the Harbour Front). I was thinking it might have been the 'This Movie Is Broken' film but from what I've seen on YT, that takes place at night. It was quite a few years ago that I saw it and my memory is a bit sketchy. Would love to see that concert again if anyone has it.
as this was uploaded about 10 years ago im not sure how likely this is. Is there any version that exists with higher quality video and audio. Main obstacle to enjoying this fully is that when I analysed it I found a huge chunk of high frequency is missing in the audio
Kinda strange the two best bands in the world are both from Canada. Arcade Fire and BSC. Maybe the world will finally forgive us for Justin Bieber and Celine Dion.
A few of my favorite bands come from Canada: BSC, Arcade Fire, Rush, Thee Silver Mt. Zion, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Like, yeah, they have some shit, but there's some brilliant Canadian bands that make Canada awesome.
not to complain, but no stars and sons? Otherwise a flawless set. Incredible band.I hope they don't stop recording and playing. The last studio effort was 5 years ago
Good call! They actually did play Stars And Sons, and a Smokey Robinson cover (Ooo Baby Baby) for the crowd as an encore after the cameras stopped rolling. Would have loved to see that!
Even if there was music aides, you can't deny that Justin is divine at what he does. GOD JUST TOUR PLZZZ BSS!!!! I'd drive 5 states across I don't care :( !! Just go somewhere in Eastern US.
Unfortunately no I don't. A long time ago now someone reached out to me who had it in 1080p and asked me if I wanted it. I said yes, with the intention of uploading it on here. In the same message he told me he wasn't sure how to send such a file over to me so I gave him a quick & easy how-to, but oddly, I never heard back from him. Sounds like either he couldn't be bothered to upload it or may have even expected $$$. Either way it's out there, it just hasn't surfaced...yet.
I had a 1080p rip from the time, but somehow through PC rebuilds and streaming media migrations I have lost the file :( There’ll be one out there, I’m sure.
Like… is this one of the best drummers ever? I know he’s driven me through my life. And how …. I reached the point when im driving I don’t touch my brake until he does on his bass drum and I count another tesla out side the hollywood bowl. I call it Tesla way. On average 32 per day. Ohana fest tickets sold out. Sad.
does every canadian have to serve a term in broken social scene
I'm 6 yrs late to the game but this is the most underrated comment of all time.
thehardtimes.net/music/new-canadian-law-requires-mandatory-two-year-service-broken-social-scene/
did u write this
you are saying this like it is a bad thing! it isnt!
Yes, yes they do.
LMAO
Justin is a fucking amazing drummer. His work on 'Cause = Time' is incredible. Andrew, Kevin, and Brendan are also amazing. What a group of incredible musicians.
I saw them a few months ago, and Justin didn't play because he was sick. It was a great show but not the same.
Yes i was about to ask, what's up with him? Those were their first ever Justin Peroff-less shows @michaelk3078
I forgot how long these sets were. We (the audience) would be getting tired and Kevin sensing this would say “you paid good money to come see us, we’ll give you lots of music”. One of the great bands of our time.
Best band in the world.
Absofuckinglutely.
Totally agree
so long as they play 1 track
They really are. They are so criminally underrated that its almost an injustice. But my hipster side is happy theyre not in fuckin BMW commercials
@@jacquesmesrine8031 You might say it's... almost crimes.
Why hasn't the band made an official album release of this. It's a great concert, deserves a better reputation than a RUclips video.
Always end up coming back to this concert recording. Legendary, especially Justin Peroff’s performance
Seriously. It sounds perfect.
Because bands are stupid. In 2010, they started streaming concerts for free instead of making live DVDs or live albums, removing a revenue stream.
The drummer is a beast! High school band pays off! I could set my watch to this guy.
agreed! saw them last night for the first time and he is something else. so many good beats
most underrated drummer 100%
Justin's drumming on Superconnected is incredible
1:01:55 guilty cubicles and Super connected were played so perfectly I LOVE THIS BAND ❤️🎤🎵🎶
this is one of the best videos on youtube.
This version of Superconnected is a reason to live
I'm like 99% positive that after listening to Meet Me In the Basement I could run through a brick wall.
Fantastic band! I was surprised they opened with 'World Sick.' The tune is essentially an anthem.
cause = time. just brilliant.
Why did this band not get big? I don't understand. They not only have fucking excellent music but they had the overwhelmingly positive from critics AND their music has been used in popular movies like Scott Pilgrim.
what the fuck?
They got big for a while
mgs108tlou "popular movies like Scott pilgrim". you idiot
Arcade Fire watches this video every week.
The crowd surfing moment was magical. Put such a genuine smile on my face
I breath BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE
broken social scene saved my life.

+Maddalena Pohltergeist I'm a drummer and i can tell he is above TONS of famous drummers, it's about his feeling, damn

Very normal phenomenon
This was one of the most epic shows I've ever been to. And it was my birthday. :)
I've been watching this nightly before bed for years now. Usually Art House Director, Meet Me In The Basement, Anthems, Almost Crimes and Major Label Debut. I'm an emotional mess every time I watch.
Ariel Engle is probably the best singer BSS has ever had. Lovely.
Hardly, she is pretty good, but definitely doesn't match Leslie Feist, her versions were beyond description.
She's great, but feist man, feist....
Ariel and Feist are like when Joey Castillo had to play Dave Grohls parts on "songs for the deaf" when on queens of the stone age; colossal drummer, an absolute beast but he had to cover god and was always one tiny millimeter behind. This is basically the best (BSS) set list possible
I always fall in love with Lisa Lobsinger when I see her on stage
This.. Now this is something special. Absolutely love seeing Feist on the side of the stage rocking out to Meet me in the basement lol.
Peace! Love! N Broken Social Scene!!!
I was super stoked to see them play with Superchunk in Toronto some years ago.
Wow, this evoked some strong memories. I remember setting an alarm for this for the live broadcast. Anthem is one of the coolest and strangest songs I've ever heard.
The two best bands from Canada are "The Band" and of course "Broken Social Scene." My opinion.
The Guess Who???
And The Dears
Bss compared to the Band? Lol
@Tripper Harrison Rush is Canadas' best..
Arcade Fire 🔥
Nice to see this now. I tired so hard to get into this band when they first came out, but I just didn't get it. Listening to it now, I really enjoy it. Better late than never, I guess.
One of the best concerts I have ever seen, hey are so musically talented it makes me sick lol.
And how about those LADIES!
I'm guessing those 4 thumbs down are just really excited drunk people who've slipped and hit the wrong one...
I was wondering who the hell downvoted this video
guess they got their monitors upside down
if you play the wizard of oz soundtrack and watch this video upside down, it totally lines up
i just dont know how many times ive watched this video.
aorund 60 timnes right here
Legendary show!
Freaking rocking out at work, all internally. I love this so much.
Cheers for putting this back up...amazing!

See, if more of these "I was born in the wrong era" kids had this mentality, I wouldn't mind it.
ThingsAreLookingUp stars is canadian as well as rush. I dont care much for arcade fire. But my uncle brought me up on rush as a gold standard.
i dont think i was "born in the wrong generation" because that's just retarded, but this generation is pretty bad lol

Art House Director. 45:00. God damn it Andrew Whiteman, when are we getting a new Apostle of Hustle record?!
This is amazing!
yes! my favourite drummer.
Me too...just listening to them
Finally! Thanks a whole lot for uploading this.
So lucky I'm seeing them in toronto next month.

Dear BSS please please have a 2013 tour.
Sincerely

Fuck. Their drummer is so great. Also, everything else about them.

Has Almost Crimes become a song that the band doesn't like to play much? That's the impression I kind of got from Kevin's intro to it
Sorry to say I don't!
Hopefully, maybe one day we will see an official release.
Swear down, drummer run this. i love this band but that guy is amazing.
