One thing I forgot to mention in the video is if you want to you could offer a 10% coupon when a customer purchases more than one item so they get back the shipping cost for the second item.
Etsy has to compete with online retailer like amazon and offer free shipping. Free shipping doesn't mean you have to cover the shipping costs yourself though. There are ways to do this without losing money. This is how I've been doing it and it's worked for me, it may not work for everyone but it might be a good place to start. I also show you how to set up a shipping profile in etsy so you can add free shipping right away!

Hey, i know the video has nothing to do with resin, but I’m 14 and just started using resin, and my resin doesn’t have instructions on whether or not I need a respirator. Its called Pixiss diamond resin, and I cant find the SDS for it online. Should I still get one?

HI Sarah I like the fact that you put fixed shipping and showed how you do it, because I was doing calculated shipping. I find though shipping expedited from AB to let's say Ottawa is over $20 , shipping is ridiculous. It' hard sometimes to have free shipping but another way people look for free shipping.

Questions - 1) Do I have to be incorporated as a company to ship outside of Canada if im selling my items on Etsy? 2) Do I have to create my Etsy Shop before im creating my account on Canada Post as an e-commerce, or opposite? Hi i have a question, what do you do if someone adds USA tracking as an additional option and they are shipping from internationally elsewhere?? like the UK or elsewhere? do u reimburse them or do you change their personal shipping label? thanks

you don't need anything to qualify for a small business acount.. just sign up! I add tax in my etsy shop per province.. you have to once you sell a certain amount. I didn't to start with though.
Hi i am so happy to have found someone from Canada to explain the shipping, I want to do free shipping but how do you do that if you have already put items in your shop with a price, and people have favorited some of them already, I can't go back in and raise the price so I can include the shipping right? Would you just start raising prices on the new items you add?
you can definitely go in and raise the prices! Prices change for so many reasons, could be that a vendor has raised prices or maybe the rent for the space you work in went up. Also, just because someone favourites doesn't mean they will buy so you shouldn't make decisions based on that. You have to do what's best for your business. If someone does notice and asks you why it's more, just explain that the shipping is now included so the grand total is actually the same. I think they would understand.
Thank you for this video! I just started Etsy and this has helped me understand a lot as a Canadian. One question. What are the eligibility of getting my small-business discount account for Canada Post? I have not registered my business under sole proprietorship yet. Is the link to my Etsy shop enough to get an approval or do you need a full-fledged website to showcase my stuff etc?
you don't need to have a registered business, you just apply!

it's the same thing, and packages 1-4 ounces are usually $3 to ship and 4-8 ounces are usually $4 and 8-16 ounces is usually $5-6

What if your products are being shipped by Printful and I already set up free shipping through them. Now that I am trying to post my listings to Etsy it's asking me to fix shipping but won't tell me what is wrong with it and I can't read their minds or figure out what's wrong with it. I would rather sell only to us and offer free shipping just till i learn more about this because I just want to get my listing up there and make money it's so wrong how many different little things take forever to get answers to or to learn how to. Sorry I'm just venting.

did you watch the video? that's how i do it, then you just put $0 into the shipping cost.
But my product is only like $18 dollars, so I only make $6 profit? I've seen people who sell cheap and ship free, how do they do that
They may sell something that fits into regular mail which is usually only like $2-$3, then they prob add that to the cost of their product
So if people buy two items they pay shipping twice? It doesn't seem ethical from a consumer perspective.
One thing I have done to offset this is offer a percentage off when the customer purchases more than one item. I try this out for a bit and re-evaluate because sometimes I've lost money at the end of the month when offering this. I think either way it's still ethical because the customer sees how much the item costs and accepts that when they go to pay. Etsy has forced us to do free shipping so as shop owners we have to find a way to offer that while still being able to cover costs. I assure you at the end of the day, I do NOT make money on shipping at all.
Also, you have to keep in mind that for some items, when you purchase more than one the shipping does actually become more expensive.
@@SarahTypes Thanks for your response. I'm definitely blaming Etsy for forcing shop owners to enrol in this, to not get hurt by their algorithm. Etsy knows shops have to include the shipping cost in the product to offer "free" shipping.

What I don't understand is how to offer free shipping when someone orders 15 t-shirts. How does the seller pay all that money for shipping, even if the price is raised. There's probably a simple answer, but I don't get it.
Well from experience with my store.. most people buy 1-3 items. I average the shipping cost so if someone only buys 1, they actually pay less. To me it evens out. But, you can also add a small fee for shipping to every item (maybe $3) and then advertise free shipping when you spend a certain amount. There are lots of ways to do it, you just have to consider your shop, your customers and what will work for you.. and prob do a bit of math. It's not going to be the same solution for everyone.

@@SarahTypes Hi, so I've been working on figuring this out. Let's say I sell my t shirts for $25, which includes free first class shipping. When I tried to create this profile, and when I went to offer upgrades, its allowing the upgrades to ship free, no matter how many t shirts are ordered. I am trying to figure the math in this, because if the customer chooses Priority Express, that's a huge fee and I can't pay it. Do you have any suggestions. I even did a Google search for a budget consultant and didn't find anything. This is so frustrating for a beginner. Etsy doesn't really offer phone help. So I end up going back and forth with emails or chats that don't really help a lot. I called Etsy as a customer and when they answered, I told them I needed help as a seller and I am literally on hold right now, and have been on hold for over 40 minutes. :(
Hello @@barbra429 Have you found a solution to this? I saw a video on youtube explaining how to untick the more expensive shipping options while setting free shipping. I guess that might be the solution.
Take for instance, if your customer decide to upgrade shipping by selecting another option(if enabled on your shipping setting), it means esty would automatically display the shipping cost since you did not set free shipping for that particular option.
I hope you are able to get my explanation if not, I could search for the video and probably share so you can watch yourself.

it all makes sense until you are selling soaps... Nobody would actually pay 20$ for one soap because I am putting my shipping fees into the price. It would be great for Etsy to have free shipping over a certain amount say ''over 50$'' get free shipping.
Ya soaps are tough for that reason, it makes more sense to buy a bundle or if you sell other things then they can make the shipping worth while.
Actually there should be a “free shipping garuntee” option that allows carts or items over $35 get free shipping!
@@nadiapero9668 they do! And I’m trying to use it but it doesn’t show up on my Etsy shop when I agree to use it. It also says it’s suppose to update your prices for you to specifically have what the total price would be for it

of course, you can't expect people to ship your stuff at no cost. This is how you achieve 'free shipping' status on your site.. which is how everyone else does it.

Incorporate the price to ship into the items. You’re way more likely to get sales. Not only do you reach the top, but you also get the person to buyer much quicker
