When the fuel petcock goes bad it usually goes unnoticed and as the gas leaks into the cylinder head it goes down into the oil and eventually thins out the oil causing great cyclider heat, so I bypassed the petcock with an inline fuel shutoff valve that only takes a second to shut off when you turn the bike off.

Natanael montanez vega technically the float in the carb fuel bowl is what controls the flow from the tank/petcock. All the petcock does is allow or not allow flow to the fuel bowl which is then controlled by the float switch.

CruiserDayz the float in the carb doesnt always stop the flow of fuel on a full tank, It already happened to me, one mourning the fuel was all over the floor and the night before I had filled the tank, good thing I left the petcock on PRI or I would have never noticed that the petcock was faulty, the petcack is the main source for fuel shutoff, anyway good luck after all that work I wouldnt want anything to happen to my bike.

I have one of these and that fan switch wont kick in until almost 250 degr, so I put a manual switch that only cost about 5 dollars and I turn it on at about 160 or 170 degr, because the exhaust I have heats way over 250 degr. So make sure that doesnt happen again and put a Little 5 dollar on and off switch to the fan, the conections for it are right on the radiator, fast and simple could save you a lot of time and money in the future.

Natanael montanez vega the stock fan switch is a standard part that can be replaced easily. You can get generic switches on ebay for about $5. Plug and play, no manual switches or wires and the stock setup will keep the fan on even when the key is pulled out until the temp is safe. I would just replace tbe stock switch personally.

Guess this is why it is very important to do a valve adjustment on your bike when it is needed

dannyfresh Check it every 6000 miles. A simple shim destroys an entire engine.

I am in process of tear down to replace engine on my 07 Vulcan 900 Custom that has over 143,000 miles on it. Spark plug on rear cylinder looks just like one in video. Any tips would be appreciated.

    good vid man!
i like the long story short ideA! works well .
was that debri in the intake maybe the culprit? if something were to lodge a valve open when valve train is trying to close it , would it not release the valve keeper ? not sure , just trying to understand why that durable engine would fail that way. was it a carburator part in the intake or pieces of valve?

Pretty sure the valve clearance had never been checked or adjusted.

Awesome. I was wondering if you may be able to answer this for me. I have a 2005 Vulcan 800 classic. The pet cock leaked duel I to the carb and cylinders. I didn't know any better and tried to start it . IT back fired or popped just for a second. it didn't start. I replaced the pet cock a d fixed the leaking issue, drained the oil contaminated with gas and replaced it with 10w 40. Now the starter spins but does not engage the motor. Did the fuel that leaked into the cylinder have caused the gas to explode in the cylinder and force the motor to go against the one way clutch and destroy it or maybe the torque limiter is ruined? I had no starting issues before and the bike ran great. please help if you can. Thanks John
