Finally! This is the missing link I was after! I couldn´t pivot my body properly if I was delivering the club wrongly. Although I am already a handicap 8, I felt stuck, not improving at all. I am working on perfecting my pivot now but this was leading me to hit the ball worst because my arms were trying to hit before time. Now I understand that my club delivery to the ball was improper, no wonder the lack of power specially on the longer clubs. Muchas gracias Ryan!!!
Yes, this is a brilliant approach. Getting the right feel from a restricted movement, where little can go wrong, and then checking for this feeling when practicing the full swing must be a good way to go. Thanks Chris.
I'm on holiday in Newquay and just managed to sneak off to the range to try this drill. I had a great session and this helped me strike the ball really well. The elbow and the hand position change made a positive impact to my swing. Thanks Chris.
Hello Chris, just wanted to let you know that this exercise has worked very well for me! it allows me to hit my irons more regularly and rather effortless. And it gives a nice contact. thanks a lot, your videos are highly appreciated.
seems like a great drill!!! will definitely try this one out.. ive been struggling to feel how i should feel in the downswing a bit before the delivery.. thanks chris!
Good to see your getting lots of subscribers. I use shiels and finch for entertainment and you for info. Very well explained and easy to follow. Keep up the good work.
Amazing! I thought I had my downswing pat. But this video illustrates how close to my body my hands actually are relative to where they should be. Thanks for the insight Chris!
Going to be working on this, just did a couple of practice swings in my lounge and indeed it felt weird, so it means it's definitely something I need to improve! :)
Your instructional videos are great Chris but I’d love to see you actually play a round or do some videos on the course playing with guests etc! Think you’d get more subscribers that way!
Hi Chris, I am hitting amazing iron shots with this drill. I can feel that I'm compressing the ball a lot more than I'm used to and the ball stays up in the air for longer and flies further than ever. the problem is I can't seem to build this into my normal swing. could probably play great round if I just address the ball and start the swing from delivery position but that will probably look ridiculous. any tips of building this into full swing?
I see this question all the time. No offense, but what in the world makes you guys think it wouldn't apply to the driver? Unless we're talking about short game (chipping, pitching, bunker and putting) then any swing component is going to apply to your driver. The only big difference in the driver is it's best to hit the ball on your upswing (positive AoA) rather than a downward blow done with irons. The backswing mechanics are the same for driver as they are with irons.
Is there a pga rule to use this drill on the course? 1 day I was having a pretty bad day on the course. I start each of my back swing with my wrist already set on this drill, then turn and hit like normal. Iron shots were going very straight, loss maybe 7-10yrd each club. I just end up club up rest of the round. My buddy got jealous, he thinks there has to be a rule against that setup.
The more I practice, the more I feel that one should use his bigger muscle group to deliver the golf club to the "deliver position" and then release the club after, which means NO hand action at all before the club reaches the delivery position; the more bigger muscle group he used, the more stable and accurate it will be for the club to reach the "deliver position".
Timeless instruction. Very helpful. I will be practicing this half swing drill for the year.
This is awesome. I practiced this at home and at the driving range and on the course. Dramatically improved my impact and ball striking

Thanks Calvin hope the drill helps
Very intuitive. Nice older video lesson. Thanks Mr. Ryan. Canada

Excellent! Cleared one of my long time misunderstanding (same path back swing and down swing). Appreciate the work.

Excellent illustration of a difficult concept!
Hey Chris. Working on this and getting great results. I am ha Ingo a hard time squaring the face with this, I leave it open.but the motion feels great
This worked 100% for me. Great drill!

Great video Chris will be trying this one
Thanks Wayne hope it helps
please emphasise maintenance of spine angle and shoulder rotation about that angle. works for me!
thanks for the lesson. is this going to work exactly the same for driver swing or do I need to make some adjustments?
Good looking drill, could also help restrict my back swing! I'll try it and let you know!!
Thanks James hope it helps

Another great lesson, thx!
Thanks Martin
Is this drill a good way to pitch the ball more consistently? i.e. the drill is a good pitching technique?
Thanks
Okay to have the club face matching spine angle during drill?
brilliant and simple
Thanks for the comments
Is this drill recommended for the driver as well. I need a drill for inside to out club path for driver.

great video..
sounds good it's help full
I’m having some serious success with this. How do I get my hands back in front of me?

Will that help with my pull shot?
It should help yes, your club is most probably travelling left of target so a good deliver should help this.
+ChrisRyanGolf appreciate it
looks like Jason Dufner waggle! Like it!
Again something I can work on together with 3 T'sTailboneTowardsTarget
Thanks Bart, I will certainly remember those three T's now
Thumbs up!
