I didn't feel this was an attack on the new paint "que the choir music" just a quick tip on using mixing medium to get similar results.

    I’ve been trying different diy contrast stuff lately and found that that airbrush flow improver has alcohol in it and tends to eat away/strip the layer of paint and primer below, causing unwanted blending, even if I add a layer of varnish.

    • @PittsPilot
      @PittsPilot  2 года назад

      Good to know, I've really only used it for the first layer, and move to more traditional layering and blending on the later steps.

  • @Splatterpunk_OldNewYork

    As a substitute for airbrush flow improver, use Fantastik Cleaning solution, available at local Walmart, mixed down to 1/3rd to 1/4th with boiled (or distilled) water. Use the stuff with my airbrush and it is wunderbar. The medium can be substituted with an acrylic clear medium from an art store. Your welcome.

    Good shot at it. People got their GW product goggles on right now. So all attempts people are doing are instantly attacked and discredited. Give it 2 weeks after a well known youtuber gets ahold of them. An says heres what they are heres how they are made and then people will realize its just some pigment binder and medium. It's nothing revolutionary or game changing.

    I tried a similar recipient and I found that with certain colors, I had an issue where the paint would gather in the details like it’s supposed to, but dry thick and almost goopy, obscuring those details. I’m going to experiment more but I’m wondering if anyone else has had this issue, and if it’s because I’m using too much medium or too little.

    • @krusty1796

      so how did go you experimentation? I'm thinking to go on the ink way.

    • @herculeholmes504
      @herculeholmes504 2 года назад

      I've been making ink-based washes rather than contrast paint, but the process is basically the same just thinner, and my experience is that there's a fair amount of variation in thickness even using inks. I think washes can be used for almost the exact same purpose as contrast paints, it just takes more layers to build up opacity.

    Seems about the same as army painter quick shades but it has all this hype around it. I don't like the way the hobby element of the hobby is being degraded more and more. There's a would of difference between dipping something and having a nicely painted army and the later require skills these paints do nothing to teach you.

      Thanks for the comment, I was a bit worried about the quality of hobby as well, but I think aside from experienced hobbiests adding this as a tool, the majority of people using contrast paint will be people who would otherwise probably not paint their models or people who have avoided the hobby because of the idea of having to paint.

    So, you did zenithal, mixed medium (doubling the price of paint), highlighted, and yet for all that mucking about and lost time you got far worse results than a single quick coat of contrast on bone primer. Yup, really "similar"! What's up with all the people who not only didn't try contrast, but didn't even bother to look at it and yet still declaring they have "totes same" results while proudly showing something that looks like garbage (that doesn't flow and cover one tenth as good as contrast) with far more effort put it?

      Not that I defend GW, and will probably buy contrast-like from Vallejo once they make it, but really, you should at least look at videos of pros demonstrating the use of it before proudly declaring your homemade garbage is any "good" and trapping new painter thinking they found a shortcut into messing up their first model and giving up...

      @avantasiaftw 5 лет назад

      @@PittsPilot Its not the same as a glaze though, the pigmentation is impressive with Contrast but taking any standard paint and diluting it in any way will also dilute the pigmentation of the glaze as we can clearly see. I feel like "Contrast paint" is more a marketing term then a tried and true type of paint at the moment, unless someone from GW can share their exact formula.
