Thank you to all involved in this production. My blood pressure was reaching critical levels til I found this. This is the only video out of 4 that I watched that includes where EXACTLY the screwdriver goes to pry open.
You are so awesome! I thought this was going to take a trip to the dealer and more than a hundred bucks. This is going to take a five dollar battery and two minutes. Thank you so much!
Thanks for the tip- it really helped me a lot. For those who do not have a pry tool or flat screwdriver to use for removing the plastic case, I used the key itself and the thickness of the key worked to perfection in opening up the case. Cheers!!
Yep, I think that's what they intended those notches for. The key that is removed from the remote fits perfectly between them to pry it open when twisting.
because lets say if you have brand new 1.5V battery if you measure it it has 1.63V so if it fall below 1.5V (to 1.2-1.4V )is not good for something what needs big drain so you can use it for TV remote control but not for clock .
Very glad this video was available. The manual for my car gave me most of the info I needed but it was good to see it physically done so I knew exactly what I was doing
Thanks for posting this. Got a 2 pack of batteries for 7.99 at my local Walgreen's, and no more warning light in the dash. Who knows how much the Stealership would have charged me.
Thank you. Very hard getting battery out and whole thing fell apart, but the pieces were easy to put back together and it worked. Saved $30.00 at the dealership. I used a penny to open it.
Another thank you. I'm wondering, how long the fob battery lasts? One of two remote keys. One is fine, the other has the light flashing but I can still get the horn to go off (panic mode) from a block away. So I'm curious to find out how early in the battery's life the blinker begins to flash.
Just in case anyone's wondering, works the same for Honda Civic 2015. Thank you for the help! Last time the dealership just randomly changed my fob's battery without asking and charged me $30 for it. I just did it today for $6.
My dad's Honda key was not working properly... His car dealer said something un-common sense-like and he was not sure if it would work... Sure enough, it did not... Still, he was not sure about how to change the batteries... So he gave me a challenge to change the batteries... Of course, your video was very helpful... Thank you...
It should be added that you should lay the fob down on a table or make sure you have a very firm grip on it when you pop the battery out. I did this once and ended up with it falling apart. It was puzzle time.
Thank you for the video. I was wondering how to open the remote. I used the Honda key to pry open the smart entry remote, so really no other tools are needed to replace the battery.
Be sure that the metal "eye" part is turned so opening is crosswise to the fob, or the metal key itself will NOT insert fully and lock into place when re-inserting it.
This was very helpful. But when I did it the battery holder popped out and all the little pieces with the pictures of the lock, unlock trunk and alarm fell out. I was able to put it back together but be careful to keep it from all falling apart.
+DIY: Car Modz I just got a 2014 Exl Coupe V6. So basic maintanance stuff like, Oil Change, Transmission Fluid change, Cabin Filter, Wiper Blades Change...would be cool! Thanks
Just changed my battery, according to this video, in less than 5 minutes. Take your time, do it on a flat surface, and don't force anything. The cr-2032 is a very common lithium battery; buy them in a 4 or 6 pack if you have several lithium-battery operated items.
Thanks for this video, if you have a Dollar Tree close by you can get a two pack of the CR2032 batteries for $1. I appreciate the video it helped me save some money.
Think I know the answer to this already, but gonna ask anyways. If I remove the battery, the car then should not be draining the key fob battery right?
I changed the battery on both my key fabs quicker than watching your video. The dealership would have charged me 10.99 per fab. I bought a pack of the batteries off amazon for 5.99. You saved me show much money. Its a scam on how the dealership charges that much for something so simple.
I tried pulling my battery out and I pulled the circuit board and buttons out :( now I have to try to figure out how to get it back together. shouldn't be too hqrd I guess. Thanks for the video!

So glad I didn't follow the ifixit advice of using a spudger to pry apart the two halves, and followed this videos tip instead - thanks
thank you for saving me a trip to Honda. So you saved me 40 minutes in my day...what gift....thank you Robert
U can actually use the spare insert key to pry open it
can confirm. this is what I did
Yep, I think that's what they intended those notches for. The key that is removed from the remote fits perfectly between them to pry it open when twisting.
My car showed that key battery is low.. I tested the battery and it was 2.9V .. I don't understand why? The CR 2032 is 3V
because lets say if you have brand new 1.5V battery if you measure it it has 1.63V so if it fall below 1.5V (to 1.2-1.4V )is not good for something what needs big drain so you can use it for TV remote control but not for clock .
Thanks man I didn't want to go to Honda and have them do it, so far from where i live and thank god I found 4 of these batteries in my house
Thanks for sharing! Worked like a charm. I used the key itself instead of a screwdriver, it worked just fine and saved me a trip to my toolbox.
You just saved me $80! Thank you so much, this was so quick and easy to do!
Thanks! I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to open the body of the key fob. Once I watched, it was easy!
+Jeff Mazzoni woah that's a lot .. mind was $4.50 in Tennessee
+Jeff Mazzoni~ Dealership in VA Beach, VA charges $10 to change batteries but Car Modz charged me free via this video, Yaaay and Thank You !
$10 plus the cost of the new battery or just $10?
When in doubt, RUclips it out. Thank you DiyCarModz. Now I can brag about this to my wife!
Thank you. Very hard getting battery out and whole thing fell apart, but the pieces were easy to put back together and it worked. Saved $30.00 at the dealership. I used a penny to open it.
This video is way better to understand than the owner's manual. Thanks.
Why would anyone dislike a DIY video??? People will dislike anything!
Thank you, sir. I had to come to RUclips to find out how to replace the remote's battery. Not one word about how to do this in the owner's manual.
Thank you for watching.
Thanks, DiyCarModz. Very short and easy-to-understand video. Nice job !
Perfect, since this DIY instructs the easiest way to open the keyfob. Removing the battery was actually the hardest part.
Hi Jeff. Just wanted to say Thank You for the video. I really do appreciate it.
+baharbh Thank you for watching.
I just gripped it with my two hands and pulled it right apart. No problem whatsoever. Thank you for the video.
Awesome !! Helped my bf who didn't know how to do it!! Love the step by step instructions !!
congrats and thanks for watching.
Thank you for the detailed explanation! I was able to replace the battery in just a few minutes.
Thank you!!!! I was headed to the dealership, then thought I would check online first. I used the valet key to open, very quick & easy.
+Susan Brishaber You're welcome.
Another thank you. I'm wondering, how long the fob battery lasts? One of two remote keys. One is fine, the other has the light flashing but I can still get the horn to go off (panic mode) from a block away. So I'm curious to find out how early in the battery's life the blinker begins to flash.
Great video man, easy to follow and it saved me from taking it to the dealer and spending time there.
I used the end of the key to open the case. Very quick and easy! Thanks for the video!
Perfect video - quick and straight to the point. Saved me a lot of time and money. Thank you!
Thank you! I bought the battery before watching the video and wound up with a 2025. It fit, but will it be ok to use in my fob?
Just in case anyone's wondering, works the same for Honda Civic 2015.
Thank you for the help! Last time the dealership just randomly changed my fob's battery without asking and charged me $30 for it. I just did it today for $6.

Slick quick explanation...easy for anyone to change the battery .....Thanks
It should be added that you should lay the fob down on a table or make sure you have a very firm grip on it when you pop the battery out. I did this once and ended up with it falling apart. It was puzzle time.
Annie Hamilton
Did the same thing...where does the little plastic piece (looks like a bracket) go?
Scott King did you figure out the puzzle.
Annie Hamilton thank you!
Scott King did u figure out where that piece goes?
Thank you sir! You just saved me an unnecessary trip to the honda dealer and $50
Remarkably good video! And I like that you can use the key itself to pry the thing open. Much appreciated.
Thank you for the video. I was wondering how to open the remote. I used the Honda key to pry open the smart entry remote, so really no other tools are needed to replace the battery.
Thanks! I couldn't get my case open easily at first I was concerned I would crack the housing or notches. This video will help so thanks.
Thank you! I have to replace my key fob battery. Keep producing this kind of video.
Thank you for the video, followed the steps you suggested and everything went smoothly.
Thanks, Jeff! RUclips strikes Awesomeness again!
Thanks for the video. It surprised me when my 14 civic with the smart keyfob told me to change the battery. It lasted lasted 2 years .
thank you thank you thank you....you can't imagine what a life saver this video is!
Use the valet key itself instead of a screwdriver to separate the key fob. The key fob is designed so there are no tools required.
An easy (and inexpensive) fix with your instructive video. Thank you, sir!
Be sure that the metal "eye" part is turned so opening is crosswise to the fob, or the metal key itself will NOT insert fully and lock into place when re-inserting it.
Thank you kind sir. very helpful. replaced the battery for less than $4! the dealer wanted almost $20!

+DIY: Car Modz I just got a 2014 Exl Coupe V6. So basic maintanance stuff like, Oil Change, Transmission Fluid change, Cabin Filter, Wiper Blades Change...would be cool! Thanks
Thank you,The key is the two notches where to apply little force to open it.
Thanks so much! Couldn’t figure out for the life of me how to open that thing with a coin which is what the Honda manual says.
Just changed my battery, according to this video, in less than 5 minutes. Take your time, do it on a flat surface, and don't force anything. The cr-2032 is a very common lithium battery; buy them in a 4 or 6 pack if you have several lithium-battery operated items.
Easy peasy! Thanks!!! First time I did not peel off the plastic on the battery - had to do it twice;(
I didn't need to use anything, just pried the two pieces apart with my fingers. Thanks for the guide.
Nice. Congrats.

Thank you for this!! Worked for my 2015 Fit. Same fob minus the trunk button
Think I know the answer to this already, but gonna ask anyways. If I remove the battery, the car then should not be draining the key fob battery right?
It might. The remote still sends out signals.. just that there will be no receiver since the battery is disconnected.
