This may be the single most helpful video I've ever found on RUclips-- not kidding at all. The instructions are clear, concise, and straight to the point, neither no more or no less than what I needed to know. The video and audio quality are excellent-- I'm hard of hearing, but I understood every word Shane was saying without having to rewind and repeat even once. My only regret is that I didn't look for it before trying the job the first time around-- I messed up exactly the way Shane describes, and it would have made life so much easier if I could have seen his instructions to help me put the fob back together again. Bottom line: watching this 5 minute video can save you an hour's worth of frustration.

Mr. Mackreth, I completely agree with you. I looked at other videos about replacing the Honda key fob but none of them addressed the labels falling apart. When mine fell apart, I panicked. But, I came across this video, and it literally saved me from additional frustration.

Around a year ago, I had to replace battery so watched RUclips. Everything fell apart and I am 67 so it was really hard to put everything together, and I was never sure if I did it right. Had to replace again today and could not remember what I did so thank you for saving me precious time and energy in putting it all back when it fell apart again. Why do the manufacturers of these things make it so hard for us to do a simple thing like replace a battery. I wish they would just go back to the old days of just a key - much cheaper to replace and nothing to put together or hurt arthritic hands. We can't all afford to have dealers replace - why they think we bought such a small car?

I found that on the 2020 Fit, the last Fit Sold in the USA, it is impossible to open this without it falling apart.

LoL was about to lose my mind🤣. I had to use a piece of tape on the front to hold the pieces in place so I could reassemble it because they kept falling apart or they wouldn't line up properly. Thank you for taking the time and patience to make this video!

Thanks for this great video! And for anyone who is struggling to REMOVE the old battery held in place by the four prongs--and you don't want to break the prongs off, you push the battery back toward the middle of the fob. It's spring loaded. It took me way too long to figure that one out!
I have a 2020 HRV...I can't feel the spring action and the old battery would not budge. : (

The battery life of my Honda is terrible. With only 16,000 miles, the battery went out. Then after the pandemic. I drove my crv with the new battery , the key fobs ( both of them ) did not work. We were not able to lock the car in the middle of our Christmas shopping. So before everything failed. We drove home . My husband replaced the battery. But ended up with a bag of fragments like in this video. I salute you for making this video to help me resemble the fob …..and it works.

Can I just say this is the most helpful video on the internet! I struggled so hard to figure out how to do this, watched this video and got it done successfully within 5 minutes. I called my local Honda and they said they would do it for $100. If I lived close to Rensselaer I would purchase my next car through you because it is clear you care about the customers not just money! THANK YOU!!

Very, very helpful. Great advice! A few years ago I didn't press down on the plastic cover while removing the battery, and the pieces flew everywhere. This time lesson learned. Everything stayed in place and it took 1 minute and no mess! Thanks 😃

You are a lifesaver. My battery indicator started flashing on the dash this evening. After Pickleball I stopped over at Lowes to look for the CR2032 battery. I took the key fob apart and the pieces all fell out. I was able to put it back together and get it to work, but had no idea where that little plastic ladder looking piece with the circle in the middle went. What’s not clear is u need a close shot to where u put the key and twist in the center spot of the fob……..I was putting in the long opening…….thanks for the video I eventually got it !!!!!!
This video saved us! We are on vacation with no Honda dealer nearby. Both our remotes were losing connection with the pickup, so we bought new batteries. But our fobs fell apart and the buttons went everywhere! We knew most of how to put it back together, but couldn’t agree on where that little cross piece went - before or after the flexible part and where at on the keys themselves. Whew! Thanks again!

I don't understand how Honda can design key fobs so poorly and then not document how to replace the battery and put the pieces back together again. I first checked my owner's manual - NO info on changing the battery or even what the error on my dash meant. Probably on purpose!
It would cost me $20 to replace the battery at the dealer. Instead I chose to take a couple of minutes of my time to watch this video and it will only cost me $2.37 to replace the battery. Thank you!

Fantastic video. The fob wasn't closing tight all the way. The crossbar support was not completely aligned. The reassemble instructions addressed that problem. Thank you.

Thanks for posting this. A caution: I found the press fit that holds the fob case together to be extremely tight. Couldn't get enough leverage with just the removable key to snap it open, so had to hold one lip of the case with a pair of pliers and use a flat blade screwdriver instead. Sure enough, when the case finally popped open everything fell apart as you described. Your reassembly instructions were invaluable.
Honda does many things well, but the design of this fob isn't one of them. The fob for my 2007 CR-V is held together with a single phillips screw. Assuming you have a small enough screwdriver, it's much easier to change the battery on that one.
This was an incredibly useful video! I was changing my battery using one of your other videos then the buttons fell apart. Had a slight panic till I found this video. Thank you for taking the time and explaining it so clearly!

I am sure the only person that would give this a thumb down is another Honda dealer. I have changed many key fobs for both my Acura and Honda's. This time it fell off my table as I was changing the battery and everything came off. Thanks so much for the Help. funny thing is I live in NYC and use a leasing broker, turns out before I went to Acura I leased many Hondas over the years and at least 3 came from your dealership. thanks for the past and present.

Bless you for making this video! How has my key unraveled? Let me count the ways. I didn't know how to replace the battery without having to replace everything, so thank you for that. I just put my key back together today and ended up with an extra piece--the little crossbar that goes on top of the push buttons to stabilize them. I had NO IDEA where that went and wasted an hour or more trying to figure it out. Now I know. I really can't thank you enough!!

Lol. The way you explained how most people open their key fob without holding it down. That was me today but inside my car was so glad it didn’t fell under the seat while changing the battery cause it went low. Thank you for a much needed video… It's hard to believe there's just about anything available on RUclips, but this proves it! One mention though...the little black brace is irregularly shaped, and only fits in one direction...if it rides above the mount, just spin it 180 degrees, and it will drop nicely into place....and as you mention, the curved part goes down.

I bought a 2017 Honda Fit a few months ago, and my key fob battery warning light was on, so I got ready to replace it. The salesman had showed me how to open it, so I was pretty confident until I did, and the whole thing fell apart. I freaked out until I found your video. Replaced the batteries in the car. Didn't realise the buttons would fly all over the place. Finally got it back together after watching this.
This also works for a 2016 Acura MDX which shares the same stunningly bad key fob design. You would think Honda/Acura would include a diagram somewhere to show what you just did, but this is the only resource I've been able to find (and nothing out there for Acura). All the other battery videos assume the whole assembly doesn't fall apart (which it does, easily). Wish I could give it a bunch more likes - thanks!

I have a slightly different fob. One with the lock on top, unlock on the bottom and hold (keyless start) on the left bottom and trunk on the right bottom. This video saved me about $30 becauae the buttons disassembed while I tried to get to the battery, which that alone is about $10-20 at the dealership (which I suckered into with a previous car key once).... or $500 for a new key from Honda. Thank you for loading this.
