So you don't like when creators add something different to a game. Shining the light is clever. It fits for story purpose, and it is a cool mechanic. And it isn't the same as aiming the gun because it has a different purpose. How would you have the flashlight mechanic without it feeling the same as aiming a gun?? There are not many ways to do it. I'm currently playing Alan Wake for the first time and I have to agree with him 😂 the combat isn't as satisfying as other similar genre games I've played. RE4 (original) and The Evil Within (1) do a much better job at making combat fun. idk if it's the absence of enemies not dropping loot or if it's the flash light system, but goddamn it gets stressful to reload the flashlight AND gun at the same time and ofc somehow the gun does not fully reload like any other shooter. But story and visual presentation I really like so far. Gameplay is meh to okish imo. Like even Control is more fun to shoot even tho it has respawning enemies. I really wonder how they did it in Alan Wake II.
I personally find it hilarious that the critics and toxic player bases can't figure out that sometimes, developers makes the mechanics hard to use intentionally to add suspense. And those games end up recieving unfair amount of hate and criticisim. The Evil Within did that, The Callisto Protocol did that, Alan Wake did that. To me, all are aweasome games. It's their style. They are being unique by their stylish choices. Not every game has to be Resident Evil 4, and shouldn't get hate for not being so. Not every game has to have satisfying combat. Not every game has to be easy to play. Not every game has to be an open world, back tracking heavy, non-liner, expolarion based 20+ hour experience.
I watched few streamers that hate Evil Within 1, and most of the time it's their fault when they die, and they are mad at the game. It's like they think that they have to be good at every game, or the game sucks.
I agreed until you said Callisto protocol. They marketed it as the next dead space and then gave us the most generic melee combat ever. Also the story sucks legit the only thing it has going for it are the visuals if you can run it at good settings
@@angel__king I personally see The Callisto Protocol no different than 2023's version of The Evil Within. If The Evil Within was came out in 2023 with today's graphical standards, this would be the exact same treament it would get. Yet many thinks it is a masterpiece today. The game (TCP) itself did an extraordinary work with the graphics and atmosphere. And I really liked the story especially after finding interesting details in my other playthroughs. I highly recommend "TeryonTheHuman"s review and story explanation of The Callisto Protocol. TCP tried a different way of storytelling that I never saw in any other game before, that almost every line that is said in the game gains a different meaning later on in the story, like the first line of Jacob being "I do not belong here" right after entering The Black Iron Prison, and his last line being "I do belong here" right before getting out, a completely deserved line delivered with dedication and acceptence of fate. Every character served multiple functions other than just being characters. Like Max being Jacob's conscience and torturing him throghout his journey, just to make him realize what he has done. And Ferris representing the judgement and price of what he has done, never stops chasing him no matter how many times Jacob escapes his grasp or temporarily defeats him (Including the ending scene of the main campaign). Because *there is always a price to pay* and *you can't run from what you've done* ... The game is an 8/10 to me, one of the best games I have played this year along with RE4R and ALAN WAKE II.
Tbh i hate the gameplay. Is this a "git gud"? maybe but i hate the fast guys, it feels like no matter what I do i get stun locked and jumped. The story is peak tho

Alan Wake is one of my favorite video games of all time, full stop. With that being said, the movement of Alan is mainly what irritated me in the game, along with the laughably minuscule amount of time that you can actually run. The dodge mechanic was mid as well. I am happy to say that Alan Wake II has improved on every single one my critiques tho.
I don’t see how the combat is any worst then most games of that era. Plus the story and setting set Alan Wake apart. Easily one of the games of that generation, yet somehow it is a bit under appreciated with takes like this IMO.
I get the complaints. And yes. If you play the game a thousand times like I did, it all does get kinda old. But the first few times around, there's all sorts of little nuances to the story that you'll notice that help emphasize the world. The gameplay can get kind of frustrating at times, but if you're annoyed, just run away. It's that easy.
If you have to lie about what happens in the game then it shows what little amount of criticism you actaully have. The thing he said about the door is just a total lie
A lot of us are grown ass men with differences of opinions who will gladly express those opinions. This is such a steamlined, agreeable with anything era we're in lol
chapter 5: alan gets a magical weapon that he uses 1 time to make it daytime then 1 more. but not while goes to the lake. they gave him a magic wand without a limit is how the manuscript was written
This guy AND fans of the game are BOTH CORRECT. The game is great, if you figure out how to play it through experimentation. If you are rushed through it, then the tougher parts of the game will be unbearable. A lot of times in tough parts the flashlights just won't cut it. You have to use a flare, a flashbang grenade, or a flare gun to clear the tougher parts. However the game does a poor job of explaining that to you, so it's easy to overlook that and have trouble with the game. However, once you master the timing on when to use different weapons, then you can have a blast with the game.
Using a grenade here and there is hardly peak tactics. Every single combat encounter is exactly the same. The game is beyond tedious and the writing is so bad, like an alien tried to mimic the way Americans act in movies.
10 seconds , i don't think so, when you are facing more than 2 enemies they attack so quickly that you don't even get 5 clear seconds to aim the flash light, every time you dodge you aim for like 3 seconds and then someone just throws an axe on your ass lol
Hate on it but this was one of my top horror games it had a crazy story that kept you guessing and it had a unique combate that always kept you on edge love this game
What do people really want, if it was anything else say like halo feels but still Alan wake story it’d suck, and you’ll still complain.. just buy the game and give it to someone who will actually love to read and learn instead of this guy
If you could simply shoot the enemies, the guns are already strong enough to take the enemies down, so there would be no tension in the combat. Him saying its borning or flawed makes me doubt hes beaten the first two chapters. From enemies that circle your blind spots, to enemies that run straight at you, or birds ands lighting fast enemies keen on catching you off guard. Inanimate objects that throw themselves at you, or possessed vehicles that run you over, theyve crafted an extremely in depth combat system that makes the horror work while being totally fair to the player, even on nightmare. And this is despite them giving you several easy ways to dispatch enemies (i.e, the flashbangs, flares and the flaregun, the heavy duty flashlight and torch) If alan wakes combat is "kobbled together," then cod's must be the definition of brain rot.
I have recently finished Alan Wake Remaster and have moved onto Control , I feel that the combat aspects of both these games are pretty subpar but the story telling and world is top tier
The game does make an attempt to bring its themes of light vs. darkness into the gameplay through the dark shields, and I do think it struggles to stick the landing on that. However, it's fundamentally no different than popping an energy shield on a Covenant Elite with a plasma weapon. The game also quickly provides more means to eliminate dark shields (flares) and just delete enemies off the map entirely (flashbangs, the flare gun, environmental explosives). This is someone who insisted on using the same strategy the entire game even when offered other options, and then complains that the game is repetitive. It's not the most interesting shooter sandbox out there, but it's far from straight up bad. If someone unironically thinks AW1 is a bad game, they've clearly never played a genuinely bad game before. Also, the in-game narration is to emphasize the fact that the story is a book that the main character is writing as you progress through it. It's also important to remember that Remedy haa their roots in the noir aesthetic of the Max Payne games. All of their characters have internal monologues, and unlike most games that use that as a design choice, all of their characters actually have different story reasons for it. Max is a detective in a noir thriller, Alan is narrating his story as he writes, and Jesse is interacting with Polaris in her head. This is further reinforced in Alan Wake 2, as Alan continues narrating his side of the game, while Saga barely has an internal monologue at all during gameplay, because she saves it for when she's deducing clues and facts for the case she's working on. It's actually a fascinating creative choice with more thought put into it than you might think if you care to look.
Worst part about the game was that they take away ALL of your Equipment EVERYTIME at the end of a level! The suspense is amazing and the combat is survival horror material except you can't save items. :((

Your kinetic weapons do little or nothing to shields, and your EMP weapons do nothing to the ship's hull. You need to use the correct weapons to defeat enemies.
I mean he is kind of right. The story and setting do a lot of heavy lifting imo. Whenever i did replay the game i wasnt replaying to experience the combat again because it was fun; i replayed it just to kind of hear the story again and find easter eggs 🤷🏿♂️ as far as him saying "it just doesnt work" definitely wrong about that. Its a solid above average horror game. Not the best but good enough to be apart of the discussion.
That's because you don't really love Alan Wake, otherwise you'd see how asinine this critique is.
@@joeycheckers114You can love something despite it's flaws
@@oldmacheath4453it's not a flaw though. The action pacing can make it feel weird. It's gonna feel better in the new game cause of the survival horror pacing.
You’d better quit Alan Wake critics always get written into his stories to have terrible deaths (I am Alan Wake)
The dude doesn't understand great storytelling and that AW is a WRITER, and he NARRATES like he is telling a story . The gameplay gets intense, and it's fun. The reason you have to shine the light is to pierce through the darkness. It is a game mechanic that fits the story. So what it is like pointing a gun. They did something new and different. And YES, it does work.. Your opinion is your opinion. It may be a stupid, close-minded, creativity hating opinion, but it is your stupid opinion. You own it..
Oh wow it's almost like Alan Wake is a dark, psychological, story-driven thriller not a third person action shooter
This game is not even scary, its boring af. I can play this to get tired. 🥱😴
@th.k.96 Saying a horror game isn't scary is not the flex you think it is. And if this game bored you, then go back to playing games more your speed, like Fortnite
@@firefly5677 I play the old Star Wars Battlefront 2 HvV, I need waaay more speed and fadt action. This game is for seniors.
@@firefly5677 These jumpscares pathetic. It's the cheapest kind of horror. That is not psychological. Its a sign of a lack of creativity.
I agree the combat of the first game can feel a bit stale after a while, BUT the story is incredible and deeply interesting
I like the game, but I agree the gameplay can be better, too generic
It’s a fact
Seems like he’s been taken 😂
The fact that you have to shine light in to your enemies in order to debilitate them conveys a meaning
1 was great.. I replay it every so often, just picked up 2 and is not as linear as the 1st, feels more like a walking and a detective simulator combined.. maybe it’ll get better after Local Girls.
100% AGREE(mostly) the storytelling is great but the gameplay is abysmal
@angel__king3768 I found it pretty fun, it's definitely not dead space levels of quality but it was still interesting
@@1GTX1I really love the evil within

Alan Wake is one of my favorite video games of all time, full stop. With that being said, the movement of Alan is mainly what irritated me in the game, along with the laughably minuscule amount of time that you can actually run. The dodge mechanic was mid as well. I am happy to say that Alan Wake II has improved on every single one my critiques tho.
i was wrong in the first few chapters but once the combat started clicking, it's been an enjoyable experience
shining a torch to ennemies for 3-4 seconds then shoot: I CAN'T
shooting an ennemy during 30sec because he's 2 lvl up from you. "It's ok".
I don’t see how the combat is any worst then most games of that era. Plus the story and setting set Alan Wake apart. Easily one of the games of that generation, yet somehow it is a bit under appreciated with takes like this IMO.
You want to play horror game. But expect a mechanic exactly like any shooter out there. smh...
Don’t diss Alan wake there game out there that are 20 times worse I love Alan wake voice it make the game would play any game with that guy voice in 😕
The things he complained about are the things I like about the game😂😂

It's survival horror. The first game was survival action.
Alan Wake was amazing.
Except for the fact that he can’t run for more than 10 seconds before being completely exhausted.

If you have to lie about what happens in the game then it shows what little amount of criticism you actaully have. The thing he said about the door is just a total lie
A lot of us are grown ass men with differences of opinions who will gladly express those opinions. This is such a steamlined, agreeable with anything era we're in lol
To be fair I even hear fans say they love it despite admittedly being mid (which oddly enough makes me wanna play it)
chapter 5: alan gets a magical weapon that he uses 1 time to make it daytime then 1 more. but not while goes to the lake. they gave him a magic wand without a limit is how the manuscript was written
@@cassmi8783Like all those dumb games the Japs make to 'appeal to Americans'?
I also feel the Gunplay is just filler, but the enviromental triggers in the first DLC make it so much fun.
Remember guys, everyone has a opinion, but that's don't mean that the opinion is valid or good.
And this is despite them giving you several easy ways to dispatch enemies (i.e, the flashbangs, flares and the flaregun, the heavy duty flashlight and torch)
If alan wakes combat is "kobbled together," then cod's must be the definition of brain rot.
You just realized that after several chapters in?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
All love yo!
Whose gonna tell him about Alan Wake 2?
To quote a book it was heavily inspired on “This is not for you.”
Im actually enjoying the game.
I have recently finished Alan Wake Remaster and have moved onto Control , I feel that the combat aspects of both these games are pretty subpar but the story telling and world is top tier
Lmao this dude eats french fries covered in wet peas
This is the wildest and worst take I’ve ever heard.

There is a symbolic purpose of aiming light at enemies
To end their darkness before u can shoot to kill them

Yes, but the tradeoff for that symbolism is that it makes every gun and fight feel the same. It feels like i'm playing luigi mansion for MANLY MEN(tm). There should of been a few guns that didn't need to shine the light at to make the fights a little less monotonous.
@@MediocreNed like a shotgun with an inbuilt flashlight which can be used directly

I dont think the combat is bad its just a bit clunky sometimes. But it felt kinda reasonable. Like Alan is a famous writer, of course he's not the best at running or shooting or dodging. He literally keels over if you run too long. I think it was mildly intentional that the combat be difficult
Bad game takes 101!
On the flip side if the game meant you just shot people that had been overtaken by a dark resonance it’d be “why are you just shooting them when their weakness is light! Why can’t you use a torch to weaken them?! The torch is literally in Alan wakes hand! It just doesn’t make sense!”
