It's finally here, the full video that I promised! The day I took Vinny, my Galah Cockatoo to the office! He can be kind of Erratic, so he bossed me around!

Teach your bird some social skills and you'll be able to take it to work or anywhere else...... It might be good for a laugh and youtube views, but you're not doing your bird any favours by limiting it's access to social situations because of bad behaviour.

Vinny is actually a galah a type of cockatoo from my country Australia! 😂 I had them as pets when I was a kid along with yellow crested cockatoo rosella’s green parrots mountain Larry’s and many more. We loved our birds beautiful memories

Yeah, a lot of it is about adjusting to them. In this video, we know we are gonna provide entertainment but most of the time, Vinny is one of the easiest! Though I do think with Galahs you must be careful
As special by galah cackato love them but difficult to read behavior. Also keep in mind the breeding season.... Hihi best bird ever but naughty and so loving.

I swear, I love that Vinny. They are the best cockatoo to have. He's got such a huge personality in a little package. Tai was warned not to touch his box & he did. You learn and know a bird's personality & they always warn you before an attack or nibble, 😂😂😂😂😂. I knew when he let him on his arm and Vinny went right up to his shoulder in his face, you're about to get bit. He could feel Vinny's energy & after the dog, yeah not a good idea, 😂. If Marlene would have went over closer he would have struck a lot harder instead of a cheek nibble.
Actually you are right, that's exactly what he might have done. I was scared if I interfered with him he would get angrier and more aggressive. I love how you are able to read that!!

You could have said "No" when you first saw the behaviour escalating and let the bird know verbally and through gesture it's intended behaviour was unacceptable. You could also have intervened before the bite, removing the bird from the situation using a diversion strategy, obedience command or physical intervention. Finally, you could have followed through with an immediate consequence for inappropriate behaviour.....but you did nothing. Absolutely nothing. So your friend has been bitten and your bird has learnt that such behaviour has no consequences. If you're scared of your bird, you probably shouldn't have one. Pamela might be prepared to rationalise away your failure to act, but I'm not..... and neither is your galah. You've just taught him _exactly_ who's in charge; and that's clearly not you.
I agree that was a gentle bite with no blood. Vinny could have easily torn a chunk out of Tai's check. But any kind of bite on the face can be terrifying. I know because my Rainbow Lorikeet used to bite me on the face and I became completely terrified of him, to the degree that he was no longer allowed on me at all. All fixed now though. I love the Vinny videos.

Capital T is right!! Bird are never perfect so you must know each birds personality enough to know how to make things happen that you need to happen in the moment

An implant?! Never heard of that but I've had mine for 11 years and mine doesn't behave this way at all. I trained him as a baby and while he has his moments there is never a moment that he won't step up for me.
@@lovebirdy4549 you are so blessed and that’s encouraging. Bubba has had three homes before mine and is now 6 years old. I’ve had him for two years and have hired trainers and vets. His hormones make him dangerous and I have scars on my face to prove it. My pets have always been spayed, neutered or gelded. Can’t do this with a bird but there is a shot or implant that mitigates the degree of testosterone. I’m hoping we learn together how to interact without triggering attacks. He came to me with clipped wings, would not step up and on an all seed diet. He’s now fully flighted, talks with new phrases weekly, always steps up, returns to his cage as needed and loves cars tips. So much is so good and delightful except when he gets nesty. Then his personality changes and even tho he’s pair bonded to me he will attack me. I haven’t figured this out as to why, but after all he’s just a bird brain.
@@hrhosmer Have you considered a seasonal diet and 'Mediterranean' sleep cycle for your bird? It can make breeding cycles both more predictable and more manageable, because you can shorten the breeding cycle with a combination of diet and daylight exposure. If your bird is on a pellet-based diet and 12 hour sleep cycle, you can move to a (more natural) low-carb vegetable root and leaf-based diet incorporating dry pasture hay-seed, and small amounts of regular animal protein with pellets as a supplement, rather than as a base. Galahs are semi-nomadic parrots and benefit from variable sleep cycles, aerobic exercise and seasonal feeding regimes. They're not like tropical jungle parrots in that regard and have very different needs to most rainforest birds discussed by American RUclipsrs.

Omg I really feel for Thai. I spent my ENTIRE child hood being petrified of our green Amazon.
He used to wait for me to come home from school(sit in the tree) then dive bomb and bite me.
His pupils would go big , his eyes would then flash then he would let out this wicked laugh just before he would attack.
My mums now got a Vinny called scooby.
He's managed to eat her entire house. Doors, skirtingboards etc.

Wow. I’m a bird person. Have two of my own but I’d never take them to work or to someone else’s house. My mustache is sweet but I wouldn’t trust him not to bite and my grey could do a lot of damage. I’d be afraid someone would ring their neck for biting them and rightfully so. Besides that birds eat and poop…. poop a lot. Yuppers, I’ll be keeping mine at home for their well being.

No. A bird psychologist would work with their bird to develop appropriate social skills and provide it with optimum opportunities for appropriate social interaction. Wild galahs don't bite their mates or flock members for fun! They have complex, respectful, social interactions and build trusting flock dynamics within their respective communities. I have wild galah flocks converging on my property every day and have rescued many birds from car-strike and surrender situations over the years..... This is not an example of how to raise a galah any more than it would be to raise a child without boundaries or expectations. Sure, it makes for great video, but it's not kind and it's not right.
