I recently got an H frame easel and haven't stopped painting since. A frame tipod easels are very unstable and I've used a radial studio easel... also unstable. These will hold very large canvases and can easily be raised or lowered so you're always working at a comfortable height. Mine isn't Windsor & Newton but it's basically the same. Highly recommend these.

Life Saver! :D Just opened my Welland Easel and the manual instructions were pretty poop, because my Part A, the central mast piece wouldn't move anywhere. It was so stiffly set I started to doubt if I was yanking at the right part! Finally, thanks to your video, I could see that it was possible to yank it away from the mainframe part and turn it around. All set to play with paint! :D xx

Thanks for the help! I wish you had included the info about the knob that is included. I see now that there is a place for the brass plate and knob to go through the central mast. I also found it a lot easier to put the mast in from the bottom. Just align the mast in it's chanel, and slide it up making sure the notches on either side fit in and push it up. No pulling pin... it just pops into place when the pin goes over the ratched piece. DONE.

The bottom support looks low. I saw you move it down, but I couldn't see if there was any way to raise it for smaller paintings?

look at the central shaft as she is fitting the mast near the beginning of the video.. you can see the recess goes quite near to the top. The recess will be further slots for the brass key to slot into. it is just that the mast is covering them as it is upright.
You posted that 1 year ago.. ah well !

Thanks Joe, I finally figured it out, and got one not long after I posted this comment :) It's a fabulous Easel. I'm so glad I bought it.

Es muy útil los sistemas de caballetes pero si se podría disminuir las dificultades para armar y poner el lienzo para poder pintar

What a shame, it is supplied as flatpack, all individual pieces with no instructions for assembly. THATS ANOTHE HOUR OF MY LIFE I WILL NEVER GET BACK. I've also got 2 screws and 2 brass items that I have no idea what they are used for. Would recommend you update your instructions.

Glad you got a close up of the one and biggest flaw in this and every easel I've seen/used. Why put plastic knobs on the canvas support? after only a short while this knob will break, you might as well expect it, it will break. I've had three easel's so far, and I've bought my last. I would still have the first had it not been for this knob breaking and of course no company that I know of makes replacement knobs for their easels. That would make too much sense and that way we're forced to buy a complete new easel just because of this one cheap plastic knob. Please wise up and at least make this one knob out of metal.

Those knobs have metal inserts and are available from any hardware shop. Maybe not exactly the same knob but a similar one. I have used this type of nut in much tougher applications and they have never failed me, except the ones on my boat, they started to rust quite quick in the saline environment of the sea. I had to replace them with Aluminium ones, and those fail immediately if overtightened....
Cheap ones are available from China through Ebay or AliExpress. You can have a new one for even less than a Pound/Dollar/Euro/whatever.
And if you do not like plastic, replace them by wing nuts.

      Bor the Wolf
and what do you do to get what's left of the plastic knob on the bolt? burn it off? cut it off? you can't replace it if you can't get the pieces it leaves behind. Why doesn't the easel companies have these on hand and replace them for free when they break? Look I'm just telling you my experience with them, I've gone through three of them, the knobs are useless, end of story and my wasting time on here arguing the point.

TheJhaley12 Burn? Cut? You replace the whole thing, knob and thread.
My hardware store sells wing nuts and wing bolts either full metal or with plastic knobs moulded to the bolt/nut. Maybe your easel manufacturer used poor quality bolts? The ones I get from my local hardware store never failed me.

lol it breaks OFF and leave part of it on there, do you need a picture? To use the damn thing I have to use a open end wrench, which I'm not going to do. let me ask you something, do you want a wing nut on yours? did it come with wing nuts? like I said this is three of them, is that quality or not? when I pay that much money for something I expect it to last, especially a bunch of wood and screws which has no real pressure on it at all. So why not AT LEAST make the knob that holds the canvas out of metal? no they continue to make them plastic and believe me they're getting a bad reputation for it too.

my knobs didn't break in 15 years, still intact, it's thick plastic mounted on a metal screw for God's sake, not hollow inside, i have no idea how yours broke. But it's unfair to compare, unless you've had 3 of these Winsor studio easels and ALL 3 knobs broke there is not much sense in you complaining here. There are plenty of solutions, you can find a winged or thumb knob that is full metal in any hardware store, you just take out that metal hex nut from the back of your moveable wood support (i've checked now specialy for you, it comes of easily it's on a rails system just push up) and go with it to the store, the threading is standard. Even if you are lazy to do this, you can take that metal screw which had it's plastic "head knob" broken off and find something similar in any hardware store. But people like to complain and even if your too lazy for even this, do nothing you are left with a metal screw that is EASILY tightenned with any plier. So your work is in no danger of falling from 90 degrees in any situation. Have a nice day.

I have one that I never use. Major design flaw. You cannot use standing up. Buying this easel was the worst mistake I've made In my painting career as far as purchases goes. Do not buy.
