Derek, many different types of SUPERSTITIOUS COMMUNITY WIDE MYTHS AND LEGENDS RELIGIOUS FAIRYTALES beliefs and rituals practices were SOCIALLY and CULTURALLY accepted as completely normal ever since man has started EVOLVING. Every region of the world had already slowly transitioned from their own superstitions until they eventually incorporated their beliefs into an official version of the pantheons of different types of pagan superstitious supernatural beliefs narratives. Each region of the ancient world eventually MONOPO-LIES their beliefs into their final OFFICIAL versions of supernatural SUPERSTITIOUS COMMUNITY WIDE RELIGIONS. Someone has to CON-SPIRE THE $ FROM THEIR naively uneducated spiritually focused supernatural SUPERSTITIOUS delusional, illusionary MINDS. The fact is that demonising religious expression, that is demonising your political opponents by pretending that they are all a massive “PROBLEM” who prey upon humanity, is an ancient propaganda tool that’s been used by everyone from medieval dictators, to serial killers to the Soviet Unions atheistic propaganda machine.
“Death is the solution to all problems, no man no problem.” - [Joseph Stalin].
The fact is that when you lie, and stereotype religious expression, and straw man and malign Christ you are not raging against the MACHINE, you’re raging FOR THE MACHINE.
The survivors of the Soviet Gulags reported that as they were being tortured by Stalin’s guards, the atheistic guards could be heard saying…
“There is no God, no heaven, and we may do as we wish”.
Which is obviously true if atheism is true. So like Ted Bundy they were just being “logically” consistent with this strictly reductive, causally closed, atheistic, nihilistic fan fiction!!
The fact is that the theme song on the way to HELL is…
“I DID IT MY WAY!!!!”
As a former missionary. Seminary trained overseas missionary and bible college teacher. The issues to me were not so much textural, also that was included. It was mainly that God had willingly created a situation whereby the vast majority of people would suffer terribly forever. God created that suffering. Human free will seemed ridiculous as an argument because God also created humans and could have created them to enjoy eternal bliss, but decided to knowingly create the environment of failure and horrendous consequences.
If there is a fault in anything the builder/creator/manufacturer is blamed but in Christianity the thing manufactured is blamed.
Straw man argument. Christianity doesn’t teach this. There’s no way you were a knowledgeable theologian who was highly trained at seminary!! Also look up appeal to your own authority.
Could have created them to be “blissful” robots?
Glad we cleared that one up!!
Listening to smug atheists, who claim that they had an epiphany as a former believer is beyond ironic and absurd!!, Listening to so called former believers now turned militant atheist proselytising about ultimate “TRUTH” and “VALUE” whilst subscribing to the belief that we are all nothing more substantive than ULTIMATELY MEANINGLESS, HOLLOW AND SOULLESS APES WHO SHARE HALF THEIR DNA WITH A POTATO IS PRICELESS!

38:30 -- Great point! I believe you may have solved the question of why Jesus was invented in the first place.
When I was doing OSUT Basic/AIT at Ft. Lostinthewoods, we had a choice on Sunday's between going to church and cleaning the barracks.
Being a 17 year old doofus, I went to church.
Over the course of several Sundays, I sat by myself in the back of the church and read the bible cover to cover.
The following Sunday I sat up front and listened to the sermon.
The Sunday after that I was buffing the dayroom floor as a freshly minted atheist.

@@christopherjohnson4081 No. This has been debunked. He says "I'm your huckleberry" and "I'll be your huckleberry", which is a badass and menacing phrase considering the context.
Snopes did a good article about this. The movie script was posted online, and Val Kilmer himself clarified what he said. But I do like this extra meaning that was discovered after the fact.
“Paul didn’t mention Jesus’ life because that wasn’t the theme of his epistles.”
Which means Jesus’ life and ministry gave Paul no ammunition for his arguments. He may as well not have lived as a human.
Paul quotes Jesus twice, but since Paul claimed that he received his gospel from Jesus’ spirit, those quotes would have come from that epiphany
Paul also had a political motive for downplaying Jesus' life story. His rivals in the Church knew more about than he did. He wasn't there, they were.
@@scambammer6102 Yes, thanks, that may be more important than my point
I love hearing David Madison and his interviews. I got his book in audio and enjoyed it.
I have read the Bible straight through many many times - sometimes multiple times each year. If there were things that were hard to take in the OT I would just say to myself that it was the OT. If the Gospels were different from each other I wouldn't really take time to think about it. Everyone I knew was doing the same thing - or at least that's what I thought. But I began to have doubts which I got over. I made my way into a conservative seminary, and I received a Masters and started work on a doctorate. But I began to have doubts again. I don't know where it started, but I had serious doubts before I read Ehrman's "God's Problem." Then I found Dr. Richard Carrier. Many of the things he talked about were related to things that I had read in seminary. That was the final nail. Many old friends are trying to keep a grasp on their beliefs. What they believe is their right. They have to come to the conclusion on their own.
So what made you leave Christianity?
PS
I see this great falling away from Christianity (as prophesied) is because people somehow were made to believe the bible is infallible?
How was this incorrect assertion passed on to you guys? The bible imo, is a book of history and myth with elements the supernatural from God.

The final nail in the coffin of Christianity for me was when I learned that the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ was not unique.
That's propaganda. The tale that Christians borrowed from Mithaism is a take invented by a French atheist in the 1800s
@@RedWolf75 There are far more dying and rising gods than Mithra, but I'm talking about the whole package. The virgin birth, December 25 as the date if birth, wise men, angels or some "heavenly host" singing or rejoicing at the "savior's" or "redeemer's" birth, multiplying loaves and fishes, water to wine, 12 disciples, eating of the body and drinking blood etc. Nearly everthing about Jesus or Christianity was previously represented by other gods and traditions. Christianity, like Islam and Judaisn, is a syncretic religion which had many outside influences. Christianity isn't unique. It just won the West.

What is truly puzzling to me is not the absurd stories cooked up in the minds of the superstitious, anonymous men who invented this nonsense, but rather the apparently intense desire on the part of 21st century humans to violently hold on to these ancient myths and superstitions in spite of all the knowledge painfully acquired by humans over the past two thousand years and the utter lack of any sort of concrete proof in support of the religious myths and fables. It seems that many people NEED FAIRY STORIES to cope with the reality of living in a complex, dangerous world.
Fear of an uncertain and complex world and fear of death are powerful motivators to believe in such things. If you give people an easy to digest narrative to explain it all, they’d much prefer that than to have to face a seemingly indifferent universe that is infinitely complex. Coincidentally this is also why demagogues/conspiracy theories can be so effective and successful. Well, maybe not so coincidentally.
When I was a christian I was the type that always wanted to hear other opinions so that I understood what I was meant to stand against. One time I said to my then friend that I wanted to read the book of Mormon because I wanted to understand what it was about (with the intent of "understand thy enemy"). My Bible study friend really discouraged me ready it and tried get me not to (which I didn't), but it has always stuck with me that they were afraid of what might happen if I heard the word of that book. They didn't even want me listening to the point of understanding enough to formulate an argument, because they didn't trust that I could think for myself. They're generally so afraid of people hearing from a source other than themselves. I'm now a proud atheist with Christian kids. They know I am, but I use the live and let live philosophy. And they seem to honour that.
I'm in the same boat saved by Jesus kids and wife and I stand aside now I just can't take it to heart we all have been lied to I guess it won't hurt for them to beleive but I'm torn now I just say hey why not everything else we have is from pagan

I just had an insight from this show. I'd long thought that apologetics (especially amateur apologetics) is about convincing oneself as you describe here Derek. But it hit me now from hearing you guys talk about reasons for entering academia, that being able to convince others (less knowledgeable) must also bring its own kind of "faith". Last few times I went to church i remember being mortified at how many times the congregation had to stand and be seated again at request. “You may now be seated” wtf?
Lol I couldn't stand this as a kid. 7 years old, tired from school and homework, and just wanting to play gameboy on my Sunday morning. Suffering insomnia thanks to images of hell, a bleeding suffering hanged god, and an "obedient" father on the verge of stabbing his own kid, among other things. Not understanding a word of what that man dressed in funny clothes was saying, so now wanting with all of my being simply to sleep on those hard-wood uncomfortable benches. But no, you can't. Stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down, raise your left hand, raise your right knee, turn around, jump and sing.
@@eprd313 I didn't worry too much about it as a kid because you have to do what adults tell you anyway. I was an Alter boy too, and enjoyed it ! It's only later on , when you realise that many who go to church on Sunday behave completely different the rest of the week. I really enjoyed the ritual of going to church , but obviously didn't understand the implications behind it as an 8 yr old. As a 14 yr old, I saw through a lot of the charade and stopped going. That's dogma and Catholicism though; I've separated that from the the truth about what we now know and it's a matter of faith. Is it just centuries of hearsay and stories that have evolved OR did a supernatural figure really exist 2000 yrs ago that came back from the dead ? There is certainly a lot of very evil people in this world and one wonders if there is no antidote or sanction against them ?

I cant believe neither a dr or yourself could realize that the off in George Nelson question was a typo, it obviously meant eye of a needle. Is there a book that lists all the contradictions of those 4 gospels? I wish there is, so I can show it to my indoctrinated family at once.
I started doubting Bible when I was in my teens. The more I studied and found these pod cast. It solidified that the Bible is a book of myths. And the resurrection was stolen from other gods. Also rulers were also seen rising to the heavens.
“Read the Bible!” he says. I was a pretty devout Christian when I was young. I did set out to read the Bible at one time. I got bored pretty quickly. Most of my Christianity came from sermons, Sunday school, and being a member of the Methodist Youth Fellowship. That’s not to say I didn’t read some of the Bible. If I had read the whole thing I would probably have had way more doubts earlier on. I did eventually leave Christianity, but only went through a short period of being an atheist.
That’s one of the things that I’ll never understand: can any honest Christian say that the Bible is the best/most interesting book they ever read? And if there was a creator of the universe, who made trillions of galaxies, don’t you think if he were to inspire or write a book it would be the most amazing book you had ever read? Instead we have the Bible which is just so damn uninteresting that any Christian has to struggle to make it to the end… I never managed to read the whole thing anyway.

I always find it amusing, the women at the tomb, so shocked that they went away and said nothing. OK, you can write that in a fictional story, like sci-fi or fantasy. But if you are recounting an actual event, it poses the problem: If they said nothing, and they were the only ones there, HOW could this make it into the text???
It's exactly the same with all those 'and God said' lines in the OT. HOW did he say it? Was there a loud booming voice? If so, how come we NEVER get that today? Again it poses the problem of WHO was there taking down the notes that made it into the text.
Or was the text all just made up? Makes FAR more sense. How come Christians don't get this? Because they exert EXTREME effort to bypass every rational argument against their self-indulgence in NONSENSE.
They discovered the BEST brainwashing method in the whole world. Tell them there are two forces: good and evil. Tell them that if they want eternal good they have to behave and believe in a very specific way. Tell them that if they don't do so they'll face eternal evil and the worst possible conceivable tortures. Tell them that anything that questions this dogma obviously belongs to evil and puts them at worse than deadly risk. Gaslight them constantly like an abusive partner or parent would so they doubt their own capacity to discern and reason, and become emotionally dependent through ambivalent attachment. Tell them you are the *only* way to escape the suffering that you are inflicting. Show them a large community of other brainwashed people so their evolutionary need to socially fit in does the rest of the work. They are geniuses, perverse geniuses.

There are actual logical answers, seek and you will find
@@morbidclash
The logical answer is that people rushed to organise a religion that could have the same element of controlling people that it did in Egypt.
The people involved were clearly pro Roman Empire so homosexuality gets described as sinful and people are told to pay taxes.
The Roman Empire officially crumbles but it’s power base is simply transferred into the unholy church of the Roman Empire. Christianity is bolstered by copying templates and idea’s in Zoroastrianism, they produce a hodge podge book by recycling Homers writings, by copying stories from the Sumerian Enuma Elish and ripping the stories out of the epic of Gilgamesh, all the pagan idea’s of planetary knowledge get deliberately disguised and suddenly 12 star signs are turned into 12 hypothetical apostles, gods Sun is turned into gods son and the god of the moon is disguised as sin.
The battle between Judaism and Christianity continues unofficially through freemasonry.
Christians want to believe, they want to believe in the Zoroastrian idea of humanity needing a saviour, an idea that is copied into Judaism before being plagiarised into Christianity with someone suggesting the saviour has arrived. The Jews don’t buy into the idea that Jesus is real or that he is the saviour they’re waiting for.
However Christian’s so want this to be true that they ignore evidence and facts to the contrary, in fact apologists are willing to compromise integrity by wilfully lying if necessary to defend all the obvious nonsense and contradictions.
The old volcano / war god of the OT is an embarrassment of psychopathy - happy to dictate the 10 (11-20 😁) rules, and equally happy to break those commandments. Thou shall not kill……unless you wish to capture some slaves, unless your children don’t obey you, unless you need a wife and unless you wish to wipe out your neighbours in a tribal genocide…then it gets gods approval.
The NT deals with this by introducing a completely different god that suddenly transforms into the exact opposite character of being an all loving god that loses its psychopathic human qualities of wrath, vengeance, jealousy and approval for child sacrifice, rape, slavery and murder.
It’s all very obvious unless you buy into it, if you buy into it then your mind will juggle and tap dance round awkward facts to stick with what you WANT to believe.

Just one small point - if you have an eternal being - who keeps being born into the world eternally, then it stands to reason that there will be earlier stories reflecting that, since that being (or story) is always present, so i don't necessarily think the earlier stories detract from the idea of the dying & rising god/child. The tradition may go back as far as the red lady of Paviland & the three days in the tomb is reflected in the (pre-Christian) burial mounds of Ireland - Newgrange etc

Ignostic Humanist here.
my interpretation of "you cannot be my disciple" is that he isn't saying you should. remember, even the gentiles love their families, while his audience is supposed to love their enemy.
the key here is disciple, which means "student", from latin discere (to discover or learn), discipulus (student), disciplina (what is learned) etc. someone who hates everything doesn't really know its opposite, to love. so if love is the gospel, and you already know how, you don't need to be taught (and don't need to be a student or disciple). he's not telling you to hate anything. you can't teach someone something they already know.

The part where he is saying no minister would tell people to go learn about other religions reminded me of when my minister did exactly that. However, my minister was a unitarian-universalist, so not really really a Christian minister.
Nobody seems to be aware that there are two different YHWH's and two different Old Testaments and it's weird...
The Kuntillet ‘Ajrud inscriptions mention blessings by the names of YHWH of Samaria (Yehowah) and YHWH of Teman (Yahweh).
Like all ancient Near Eastern gods, these two regional gods must have had central temples.
This article examines their possible locations and suggests that the combination of the Kuntillet ‘Ajrud inscriptions with the eighth-century prophecies of Amos and Hosea holds the key for identifying these.
In light of a detailed analysis of Hosea’s and Amos’ prophecies, it is further suggested that YHWH of Samaria was the name of the major God of the Kingdom of Israel and his main temple was located at Bethel, and that YHWH of Teman was the name of the God of the southern desert regions and his temple was located at Beer-sheba.
Israelite traders who traveled southward probably visited the latter god’s temple, offered him sacrifices, made vows to repay him if they succeed in the expedition, and thus turned him to be their patron god during their travel in the desert region.
This suggested identification explains why the Judahite cult place of Beer-sheba appears in Amos’ prophecy alongside the Israelite sanctuaries of Bethel, Gilgal, and Dan.
What do Samaritans believe in terms of the Bible?
Samaritans believe that the Jewish Torah, and Judaism, have been corrupted by time and no longer serve the duties that God mandated to the Israelites on Mount Sinai. The holiest site for Samaritans in their faith is Mount Gerizim near Nablus, while Jews view the Temple Mount in Jerusalem as their most sacred location.
The Samaritan religion:
Their principal canonical text and main norm of religious observance is the Samaritan Pentateuch. The Samaritan Pentateuch contains the basic text of the first five books of the Hebrew Bible, yet there are about 6,000 differences between it and the masoretic Jewish version.
Why did the Judahites not like the Samaritans?
The Jews called them "half-breeds" and sent them home. The Samaritans built their own temple which the Jews considered pagan. The feud grew, and by the time of Christ, the Jews hated the Samaritans so much they crossed the Jordan river rather than travel through Samaria....
The big question is who were the 4 biblical authors? Matthew, Mark, Luke and John? There’s hardly anything about them in history, no biographies, no information whatsoever… Christians make me laugh. 😂
This is just an atheistic, nihilistic fairytale and is nothing more substantive than a trope and anti Christian hate propaganda left over from the cold war. We actually have the writings of Irenaeus, a student of Polycarp, and Polycarp was actually a student of John the apostle, and Irenaeus actually affirmed each of the gospels authors - right?
Furthermore, the fact is that John actually met Jesus, ate with Jesus and lived with Jesus and travelled with him for years and was present at the crucifixion - yes? John was actually one of the original apostles who taught Polycarp who subsequently taught Irenaeus. This is a no brainer!! Moreover, even if ancient texts are anonymous, which a lot of ancient texts are, historians don’t automatically view them as unreliable.
The neat thing about Judaism is that it so easily falsifies Christianity. Wherever else Judaism might be right or wrong or true or false - or Tanakh divine revelation or purely man-made - Christianity is manifestly false either way. And Judaism right all along about Jesus, at least, and the New Testament and Christianity.
Rabbi Tova Singer has a long series of videos that are all about the details of this exact topic, with the same conclusions.

Derek, Love your discussions and you have an amazing story. I only would like to say that there are many seminaries that delve deeply into the genesis of the scriptures (both Hebrew and Greek) and realize that there exists all the inherent problems of which your discussions speak of. It's not like many of us have our heads in the sand it's just what we do with that knowledge. For me there is another level to all these discussions which may not be tangible (and of no value in the academic sphere) but may answer why some continue to desire to delve into this mystery/ myth. You contribute to us in that journey and I thank you for it. Amazing guy; some might even say divine!😂 Thanks!
This is scary!!! If there is no jesus, who came to earth to save us. If no Jesus, no one ever born will be saved. We are all doomed.
Saved from what??? Define 'sin'. A 'sin' in one culture is not considered a 'sin' in another culture. It's all in your mind. If you believe some book you read and what it says that you have 'sinned' and you need to be 'saved' by some supernatural figure also created as a storybook character in that book to be true, it will be true for you. You will live your life being bound by it, and in the end you'll find you did it all to you.
Second comment : This is not to say that there are no karmic consequences to your actions, both "good" and "bad" depending on your perspective. But you can deal with it. You 'save' yourself. Learn from the Eastern Ways of Life (Hinduism, Buddhism and Taoism) if you want to break free of fantasy notions from a fantasy novel of who you are and what your place in the universe is.

@@georgedoyle2487 And you, if you are a Christian, have actually got to the nub of the matter. You are no longer a Christian, because what you have said goes against everything Christianity stands for. Yes, indeed, it is all in the mind. What I said one year ago to the OP was relevant to the stage of the spiritual journey the OP was on. In Eastern religions, we are also taught not to reveal too much information that the listener can't handle. Some people have actually gone mad from knowing through self inquiry and realization that there is actually nothing there at the centre of it all. The OP needed something to hang on to, and I gave her that, and that something that I gave her to hang on to was more provable within the parameters of this simulation than the fantasy belief in supernatural figures. Just like the ordinary seeker in Eastern religions needs this midpoint of the journey to rest and refine himself or herself. Believing that there are karmic consequences, which can in some cases be seen, for instance if someone commits a crime and is caught, gives structure to the seeker at that stage of his or her development. On the other hand, the fantasy that some imaginary figure "forgives" your "sins" and "saves" you cannot be proven.
Christianity is evil for causing rape, genocide, colonization and enslavement in the name of its imaginary founder, that's why it's evil. There is also no such thing as "forgiveness", what on earth is it? It's a nebulous concept just like your entire religion and this entire simulation. You want ultimate justice? People are leaving your church in droves. So many churches are closing down. This religion that has caused so much harm to this world will soon be dead.
Don't forget to turn the other cheek Christians, so that the two punch knockout hits every square inch of your indoctrinated face.
Most people aren't aware of the duality of the outer and the inner worlds. The outer is a shell of a story, or information from a materialistic point of view. There are layers underneath inside closer to the center of truth known as the esoteric.

Excellent presentation. On 18 Jun 1977, I was atheist like my father, but on 19 Jun 1977, I became spiritual.
Due to injuries received in a serious auto accident, I have a persistent memory of being dead. Scientists discount my memory as a DMT experience. People discount my memory as being a near death experience.
There was nothing near to it.
For 26 years, I was at peace with the memory of my death. On 16 Sep 2003, I looked at the memory of my death in the reverse. On that night I stumbled into abstract photography.
Over the next year I created over 2 terabytes of abstract artwork. From the artwork emerged an equation that explains to me how I was in a spirit state observing the physical world.
The equation uses the logic of Lynch, the energy of Einstein, the force of Newton, and the sayings of Socrates to describe a moment of time as infinite. I call the equation the KnoWell.
The KnoWell is written on the letters, I A M. The KnoWell bridges the gap between science and religion through philosophy.
I taught ChatGPT the KnoWellian Universe Theory, and the bot was quick to equate the KnoWell to the Steady State Theory and Anaximander's Apeiron.
On 19 Jun 2007, I draw a KnoWell for Peter Roman, and I have sent numerous emails to various Catholics informing them that Saint Malichay's Peter Roman was born from an immaculate conception.
This year, I contacted monsignor Henry Gracz at the Immaculate Conception Shrine in Atlanta GA. The Immaculate Conception is the oldest church in Atlanta, and rests of stones quarried, placed, and donated by my family.
I contacted the archbishop of Atlanta, and Cardinal Timothy Dolan. Not one of them have enough Christ in them to even respond. Henry and I have had several face to face conversation. Cardinal Wilton Gregory walked away from me, so I had to talk to him as he fled.
I do not expect you to respond, but if you would like to read my emails and see my equation, just let me know what email you would like me to mail you links. You can also search for my letters on the internet archive, way back machine.
You can search youtube for "Near Death Experience -Did this man communicate with God the father?"
Ai did a great job with my best written recollection of my death.
As I told Henry, "A lot of people are going to be surprised, when they wake up dead."
A big part of me hopes that when I die it is lights out. I am tired of all this chaos and control colliding.
Keep up the great work,

Its dishonest to think that because someone is a Christian they haven't read or don't read the bible. That's so incredibly dishonest and disingenuous. I've been studying it for over 20 years now. I have not encountered a scriptural difficulty that is problematic. However, I have encountered countless human interpretations and personal theologies that are problematic but that's not a problem with the Word of God. That's a problem with human interpretation.
Christian say, (a) jesus is god and (b) jesus died on the cross; meaning, god died? And, (c) god raised jesus from the dead; meaning, god raised god from the dead? How is this not problematic?
@@sethsuleiman4419 God can skip rope and chew bubble gum at the same time. Shocker!
Only 30% of Christians worldwide will read the entire bible. Only about 20% of American Christians have read it in its entirety. Yes, it is miraculous you haven't found any problems with the Bible --- as miraculous as a faithful Muslim finding no problem with the text of the Quran, or Hindus having no problem with the Gita or Upanishads. What would a believing Mormon do if they found parts of the Book of Mormon to be problematic? They'd likely twist and turn, interpret and re-interpret the text until it fit their own view. When we really want to believe something to be true, our minds will usually oblige with the needed mental gymnastics to make it so. This tendency is present in nearly everyone. All we can do is be aware of it and try to compensate for our inherent bias.
@@zenmite Or it's possible that there really is a cohesive logical and understandable way to study the scriptures and arrive at a satisfactory interpretation that doesn't have theological conundrums and "contradictions." I am both a scientist and a man of faith. I have studied in great depth biology, both molecular and genetics, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, etc.. etc.. I have studied human physiology and microbiology, I have taken advanced mathematical courses including studied linear algebra, I computer program in my free time, and take care of the sick and dying in my professional life, and I've been studying the Word of God these past twenty years. I am absolutely fascinated by the universe and the constant new studies coming from scientific communities like those at NASA, I love history and archeology, and I've studied many arguments for and against both biblical historicity from the old testaments all the way through to critiques of Jesus and His historical existence. I watch a varied group of critiques and including but not limited to myth vision, genetically modified skeptic Matt dillahunty, Sam Harris (whom i thoroughly enjoy because of his humor). Infact there are almost no theological personalities I watch; honest it might be zero. I also never attended seminary school, so I'm not "brainwashed." Infact, I went to a secular university when I studied all my maths and sciences. I actively search for someone to provide the evidence that Jesus could absolutely not be the very image of the invisible God who made this universe, and I simply, in all my years of watching and listening to all the skeptics and critiques, and in all my studies, found not a single argument or objection that carries any water. Yes, there are many objections, obviously, but there isn't one that is based on any real issue in the scripture. Every argument that is claimed to be based on scripture is just sheer ignorance by critiques of the scriptures. There may be a few that are understandable or reasonable but then it comes down to a leap of faith whichever way you go and given all I know and understand both scientifically and through study of scripture. I take the leap of faith of giving God the benefit of doubt than leap away and having faith He can't possibly exist. Occasionally there are areas of scripture that are challenging, I can think of truly only one that I need to spend more time studying at the present moment. Ultimately, whether you believe or don't, you are doing so on some amount of faith because just as I cannot prove beyond a shadow of a doubt God is real, neither can anyone prove beyond a shadow of a doubt He is fake. All we can do is weigh the evidence for and against His existence and then make the best educated guess. I think the evidence for the existence of a creator far outweighs anything against one. I'd argue there is no evidence against a creator that isn't theological. What I mean is, I don't know of any scientific evidence that disproves God's existence. So what's left is all those theological arguments which most of you imploy in your toolkit to argue against God. These arguments are very effective upon the ignorant and unlearned. Likely upon that 70-80% of christians you cited who don't study the scriptures. But they are terribly bad when you have even a modicum of understanding of the Word of God. Once you have a good understanding of the Word of God, and can digest and disect every bad argument made not in dismissive mentality but in a way that is thoroughly satisfactory and convincing to yourself , then it really just becomes almost obvious there is a creator. At this point its more about deciding WHO this creator is rather than IF a creator is. Has He / She revealed themselves to us or are they aloof and don't care about us, or worse, are they evil and take great pleasure in human suffering and the suffering of creation? All these remaining points take study of theology. Namely sacred texts and analysis of the historicity of the individuals who both wrote the texts and the people they wrote about. Pick any text you like and study hard, study the history, listen to everyone because in the end its your life and you should be satisfied by the conclusion you have arrived at. If you are not, keep digging. Anyway I'm happy to talk to anyone earnestly trying to navigate this complex topic but what I'm not interested In is going in circles with fools who have no interest in opening up their minds and just want to argue because they're miserable and like to argue lol 🙃

Thanks for the reply. I would never assert 'there is no god'. From my pov, the probability for Yahweh existing is just very low, but not zero. The same with Ahura Mazda, Brahma, Zeus, etc. If I find evidence that moves the needle on any of these, the probability will change accordingly. More than that, it is difficult to say, since different sects of Christianity have a wide range of dogmas, some of which directly conflict with science, history, etc. and some that do not.

The "thoroughly satisfactory and convincing to yourself" is the part where we all have to be careful.
Whatever brings peace and joy to another person on this Earth I will support. Who am I to say if something is true or not?
JESUS IS KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS!!!! I DONT LIFT MY ARMS AND DESTROY YOU WITH STORMS BY EXERCISING. WAIT UNTIL THE TRUE DARKNESS COMES. BY THE WAY I KNOCK MY COMPETITION OUT WITH ONE PUNCH. GOD BLESS YOU. AMEN.
Uhm . . . Ok. Good for you. But typing in all caps doesn't make what you say any more true. But if that brings you comfort, you do you, bro. Peace
Fruitcake, anyone?
Luke comes out of the gate like, "Yo, I'm here to correct all these other bitches on how it actually went down." and Apologists will still say it's parsimonious with the other three. Simply because it tells most of the events in the same order.
Will there have been original manuscripts from the disciples? These people were probably illiterate. Stories about the disciples were likely passed down through generations, verbally. Various Greek philosophers, decades after the events, probably decided to record these stories on scrolls for posterity - in a similar way people have written down traditional tales and songs of centuries ago. This would account for the inconsistencies between the gospels.
Derek you talked about wishing that there is life after death!! A few years ago I died & was gone awhile!! My life ended I ceased to exist & it’s ok you know nothing!! You don’t know your dead don’t miss loved ones because you don’t exist. As it was before you were born so it is after you die. I now have no fear of death at all. Life is good live it till it ends!!❤️❤️
That is biblical. Before you were conceived, you did not exist, when you die you "sleep" and know nothing until the resurrection and judgment. So you needed to stay dead longer if you want to claim it is the end.
Funny thing is what you’re saying is pretty much what I was thinking yesterday❤
“No fear of death”
Total word salad and nonsense why not go now if “non existence” is so brilliant. You just totally and utterly refuted yourself with your militant atheist CULT SPEECH!!
Thanks!
The cult I was in, was started due to visions...... obviously just as special as Paul.
The truth was mythology all along thats why people ruled out mythology all this time and believed the lie that is christianity/offical history so for people to call the mafia christianity "mythology" is ignorant and wrong.
That top #10 rising and dying gods was awesome.
When i use to attend church service, at the very end, everyone would stand and pray, most prayed outloud, it was always atleast 3 of them praying loud and long, like they were competing who had the best prayer, when one would pray loud the other would pray even louder, I'm like bruh hurry up, im trying to go home and watch dragon ball z lol
The problem with religion is not just what is being preached - it's more that people always want easy answers.
Concerning Luke 14:26 when Jesus says you must hate your families if you don’t,you can’t be my disciple: Mark 10:29 “Everyone who voluntarily forsakes home, relatives,or property for the sake of him and the gospel will receive 100x more in this life and in the world to come, eternal life” There are many Christians who face shunning, disowning,or persecution from from their families. If believers are to be true to Christ are forced to live in a way perceived as “hateful”towards their families who don’t believe in God,and we must show him preference over all earthly ties
Eue off a needle MAY be referring to the verse that says it's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to go to heaven
"You'll need the wine." 😂
'What's in the basket .. ?' .. .. .. "My brother . . "
The resurrection is in reference to the sun which is resurrected on Christmas Day following the three day solstice (death) in the Southern Hemisphere where it was known there was a cross. Before sunrise the constellation Virgo rises and is there for the birth of the new sun. And three stars in Orion’s Belt called three kings point to the sunrise.
So it was said he was born of a Virgin and died on a cross!
Dan Wallace knows plainly that we can’t know exactly what the originals said and that they’re clearly written later than most Christian’s claim. His snafu with the 1st century Mark copy etc. also proves how eager he is to defend and push his narrative. Anyone who watched his debates with Ehrman can see clearly that he knows the problems but downplays them for his evangelical audience.
