Harrison Cother was a staunch Jehovah's Witness who began to study all sides of the issues pertaining to the bible. He was raised to believe the Bible is Inerrant, Infallible and without error. It was true and Science must line up with the Bible. God cannot lie and he set out to perform apologetics to prove this is true however despite his best efforts was opening his eyes to the truth of the matter, hence his RUclips channel being called, "The Truth Hurts". once you start looking at dinosaurs and primitive man, automatically the bible is full of sit. Dinosaurs are older than 6 days or 6,000 years, they're very old just as the Ancient Egyptian pyramids. These people invented electricity before electricity. Here is a fun fact. A nugget of real history. In the Exodus, when the Jews left Ancient Egypt, Jerusalem was still part of Egyptian territory its like leaving Los Angeles and the promise land is in Las Vegas, but you still in USA! The Promise Land was Egyptian territory.
Here's another fun fact. A nugget of history. When Cleopatra 7 was Queen of Egypt, millions of Jews were living in Alexandria, Egypt. Why would a run-away-slaves return to live with their masters? Cleopatra didn't persecute the Jews living in Alexandria because there is no records that Jews were slaves in Egypt, nor records of a mass migration out of Egypt or Moses or 10 plagues. Otherwise, Cleopatra would have bomb on them; her and Julius Caesar; Egypt and Rome. But since no records or evidence of Jews living in Egypt, they granted them citizenship, right to enter commerce, free trade, etc. 4 real.

I was on the YT show The Line chat and called religion a myth and then I find your show. Thank you for a deep discussion w facts and findings to better support that it’s a myth in its own writings. My family says I’m going to hell since I reject taking Jesus as my savior. Meanwhile I found out my family is really 100% Jewish lol I used to always say Jesus was a Jew so don’t reject Judaism Im a happy atheist following science grateful for reality. For me, the biggest problem in the Bible narrative is this... Why didn't God just 'kill' Adam and Eve straight after the 'Fall' and start again with a new version and thus spare the remorseless pain and suffering of their descendants, i.e. the flood, the exile, famine and wars, the crucifixion of his own Son, the need for redemption, billions of souls in eternal agony etc...? If the god of the Bible knows everything he would've known the fallout from the beginning and you can't say it was because He didn't want to kill because of the millions of other people killed by him afterwards and, even then, he could've just made one of them infertile, after all, he does that to other people later on. It makes no Sense whatsoever.
An other question; is it possible to believe after auschwitz (as people do)? We have to understand that EL is not the creator god (not to blame for it). It are the twisted lesser demi-gods (the Twin) wo dunit. They are the rulers of this age, the evil powers in the sky. But have faith Yahweh (who is just a runner-up) is fullfilling a plan over millennions of years and will succeed. And meanwhile you are already free in christ, you ungratefull moron.

To be honest, I wasn't tying to offer an interpretation through my own 'moral relativism', just question the consistency of the Christian doctrine within its own paradigm. It'd be much more useful/helpful/interesting if you actually had a go at answering my question, bearing in mind that the Bible tells us that 'God is love', etc...
@@philipofsparta1355 There are many things we might not understand about God Almighty. I have always believed that there is God and Christ Jesus! But once I realized my own sinfulness and wretchedness that's when I recognized my need for help and a change within me. As long as we lean on our own understanding and trust everything that they say against God then it is hard to BELIEVE IN GOD AND THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON CHRIST JESUS.
The day I received Christ Jesus as my Lord and Savior my eyes were opened and I began to understand the Bible like I received new eyes and new understanding.
Let me ask you this, if you have children, when they mess up, do you stop loving them? No of course not. When God created Adam and Eva, He gave them a choice, just like when we were given an instruction, Adam and Eve and us have a right to choose but we suffer the consequences of our action. God Almighty is NOT evil, HE IS a loving Father who desires us to get it right. But you know how it is, without God's righteousness and His Holy Spirit we are unable to do everything God's way of doing and being right, that is, until we accept His only begotten Son Christ Jesus as our righteousness our Savior. So be encouraged and read the Word of God for yourself because you want to know the TRUTH.
I'm an ex JW and growing up I've always had questions the elders couldn't answer. Not only could they not answer the questions I had, but they made me feel an unimaginable amount of guilt for asking those questions. Thank you for sharing your story. Traumatizing children with stories about hell and eternal torture is child abuse, plain and simple. I thankfully grew up without them, but my wife wasn't as lucky. She's been an atheist for over 20 years now, but she's still influenced by this immoral christian garbage.

I decided to never have children. One of the reasons was because, while I’m agnostic now I still had the fear of eternal torture beat into my head so hard that I never want to risk it for my children.
So I have the power to protect them by simply not having them. No kids mean no souls being tortured for eternity. That’s love. God had no such love for us. He let us fail and then called it the gift free will when it is in fact a curse.
God is willing to risk you being burned for ever just to see if you will love him even though he already knows the answer. That isn’t love

This was a great conversation! I grew up in a similar cult/church group to JW called Worldwide Church of God and can relate to so much of what was said here. I love the Truman Show correlation. It truly is a mind-bending experience coming to the realization that the truth you've been living is in fact a pile of lies. It is so helpful to know I'm not alone in my experience.
I was in or with the church on my own… For about 10 years. I still kind of miss it… I mean I can no longer call myself a Christian, well, I’m still a little obsessed with Jesus. And I still think that the Worldwide Church of God was the best version of Christianity that I’ve come across.
I grew up in the Worldwide Church of God as well! It took a while to get out of the brainwashing.

He takes away our strength by ageing and diseases. Then takes away our purpose for living. Next is our very will to go on living. We eagerly wait for our dearth but God doesn't give it instantly. He gives us more time to think. All things are taken away from us before we die except knowledge and consciousness. Our bodies die but our spirit, together with our knowledge and consciousness lives on. When we face God, it's all that we have. There we will face a terrible judge with nothing to defend us. Here's another one for you: How can a man and a woman pass on original sin to their children if they were baptized to have that original sin forgiven? It's like that original sin remains in a man's sperm and a woman's eggs and is then transmitted to their baby so his sperm or her eggs contain original sin even though the man and woman who conceived that child had their original sin forgiven. My question has always been, if humans were made perfect and to live forever, to live in perfection, with no death or disease...why do we have immune systems?
That is like asking why a soldier carries a gun. Perfection does not mean we cannot get pathogens or injured. Our immune system was design to fight all nearly all pathogens. It is a scientific curiosity why it fails at it’s job. Or having two legs and to hands and other duplicates helps up function despite injuries. We are built to last forever come whatever.

There's one thing about god that used to bother me most when I was a believer. It never made sense to me why God would require men to brutally kill others so they could inherit their promised lands when god could simply have snapped a finger and painlessly annihilated or relocated the 'bad guys' without the need for bloodshed. Also, if he wanted his children to have land of their own, couldn't he just created some land somewhere and moved them there? He had so many options, but he always opted for pain, bloodshed, and destruction.

While dating a Mormon and researching that "church" in depth (my paraMormal experience), I learned how that was all fabricated and how they harm people. I looked at other 1800s religions, and then I started tackling the source when I found Dr. Bart Ehrman. Later, I found MythVision and Harrison's channel. I was never a devout Christian, but it was a little upsetting (but still not terribly surprising) when I started learning the historical truth - that it was all lies and politics. I'm now about 99% atheist. There are just certain experiences that I no longer know how to interpret. (It was God before, but did I invent that or embellish? Maybe.) That's the remaining thread. Thank you for all the amazing, thought-provoking interviews!
May I ask about your certain experiences? I myself am a believer in the Bible, Christ Jesus is my redeemer and since I received Him my hearts desire is to live pleasing to God and follow the teachings that Christ Jesus teaches us. Also the evidence of the Word of God being true is the fact that as I believed the Word and obeyed it's teaching, I seen my desires change to desire what God desires for us. The things I used to do I don't want to do or participate in.
Kris, your generosity and caring heart does not go unnoticed by God Almighty. and it is good to do good! Yet many religions and others, have missed the point and purpose of the Written Word that was inspired by the Holy Spirit who led the apostles to write down what happened during the life of Jesus Christ (the anointed One and after Christ resurrection (returning to His Father in heaven). Christ Jesus' purpose was to reconcile us back to God's Kingdom, which we lost because of disobeying His way of doing and being right:.
Then the sovereignty, the dominion and the greatness of all the kingdoms under the whole heaven will be given to the people of the saints of the Highest One; His kingdom will be an everlasting kingdom, and all the dominions will serve and obey Him. Daniel 7:27. Even if people have a hard time of believing, God is Holy and He can not have sin in His presence. He did make a way for us to be acceptable in His sight, right there for Adam and Eve. But now he did send Christ Jesus to pay for our wrong/sins so that He cleanses us and we can again receive the Righteousness of God into our hearts to live holy and acceptable in His sight. SIN SEPARATES US FROM GOD. ALL HAVE SINNED AND COME SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD, BUT THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH CHRIST JESUS. You know like, lying, stealing, sleeping around when we are not married, cursing and so much more. So when we invite Christ into our hearts He gives us His righteousness to be reconciled to God. I testify to this being true.

I’d suggest taking a linguistic/psychological approach to it all. You can still have profound, mystical, transformative experiences separate from the language/symbols used to facilitate, understand, and articulate those experiences.

She’ll never realize how that one statement stuck with me for almost a decade and really highlighted the fraud of religion. Because your sense of morality goes only as far as the Bible allows it to go. She went from denying that the Bible would ever have something so cruel in it to accepting it as just outside of all basic reasoning and logic.

Harrison mentioned a few times how people who have left the cult (or been put out of the cult) feel untouchable, unlovable, guilty, unworthy, suicidal, friendless; also those who thereafter reject everything in the Bible/religion, etc. This is just to say that once I allowed myself to read and study things that had previously been forbidden to me - "occult", evolution, other religion's ideas, even other Christian denominations' commentary - i have come to appreciate the Bible so much more than I did before. I just think it needs to be "decolonized".

Animals evolved to be successful at what they needed to do. When man became intelligent, he created things that served his needs, such as clothing, arrow heads, and social structures. One of these was religion. As time went by, they all became more complex and more fitting to man's needs. However, we do not wear animal skins or hunt with arrowheads anymore. But, most people worship a God or gods designed and created by people in ancient times. Over the centuries, religions have evolved too, but they are not the "great" religions. But, as you have deduced, religions are all founded on certain falsehoods. The greatest one is the belief in a Judgemental God, who has no problem destroying for eternity his creation for minor offenses. And, since the definition of God, is a perfect being, and murder and destruction are not perfect, by definition he cannot exist. Therefor, we are like all the other animals that exist or ever have existed. We are born, mature, reproduce, and die. Our bodies decay and go back to the earth. There is no life after death. If so, where? In the clouds, in space, on another planet? No, God and heaven and hell were simple answers for questions the ancients could not answer, as are all the other issues religion has provided, without any evidence to support them. The moral of the story, if there is one, is to protect the planet because it gives us life, love your family and freinds, act humanistically toward everyone, and never assume you know more or are better than anyone else.
This was SO refreshing and inspiring. I have not heard such a sound and insightful discussion since my days of studying religion in college. You have put the Christian apologists to shame. They could never keep up with your relentless logic and could never comprehend the contemplation and complexity involved in the journey into atheism.

To the current plan of are own three dimensions Universe to which we all exist we can see each other, however, if a parallel that exist next to are, we would appear invisible and the other universe would also appear invisible because both universe exist separate from each other. Since there are multiple dimensions that are separate on the Atomic particles scale we Humans can’t see the closest parallel universe because it’s is invisible and separate. So therefore we are invisible to anyone from a parallel universe and vise verse. Since God is suppose to live or exist outside of quantum universe or parallel universe we Humans would also appear to be invisible to him and he can only see are spiritual energy and use the Holy Spirit to communicate with Humans.
I can't remember the documentary, but it talked about how the Buddha tried following many different people and even tried living on a few grains of rice, he finally came to realization that there wasn't a specific person to follow to just BE the spiritual person you already have capacity to be. Ex JW , never really believe in the doctrine of JW. Became a christian in my 30. Then questioned the bible and certain things like why God hated some people ,but his son died for all ECT. Started to look in to other mythology , other religion's it all was very interesting and fascinating. 12 years later back to christiany with a very different perspective of the bible. Was the flood 40 days or 150 days or 365 days? Did Noah really live to be 300 years old (something like that)? Why doesn't anyone live to be that old now? And we're just supposed to take that all on faith???? How does that even make sense? And the Church used to demand we believe the earth was flat and that God existed just above the clouds. It rained 40 days and 40 nights, the arc came to rest in the mountains of Ararat on day 150 in the 7th month and 17th day. It wasn't until the 601st year in the 1st month on the 1st day that Noah removed the covering of the arc and not until the 2nd month and the 27th day until the came out. So you can start saying it was 40 days,150 days, 300 and some days and 1 year and 10 days.
Point is they are laughing at a passage that isn't necessarily contradictory unless you take it out of context and just want to laugh that it said it was 40 days and 150.
The fact that it says Noah was 600 years old is definitely more controversial than the number of days it flooded. But it's unfalsifiable so they try to find things that are but they failed miserably. Not to mention the fact that it says Noah was 600 is more evidence it is not to be taken literally anyway.

I totally agree with your second point. When I was first waking up I wanted to keep my faith in Jesus as being the way the truth and the life. But overtime I came to realize that if I had to believe everything about Christ I also had to believe everything about Jehovah since he is supposedly the image of him.I in no way could reconcile the god of the Hebrew scriptures with the Christ of the Christian Greek scriptures. Because of this and many other reasons I had to come to the conclusion that The Bible is man-made crap. You guys both did amazing job on this show. Thank you

Think of all the babies and unborn babies, little children , the death flood story is so so awful, but what is worse for me is , holding babies down and cutting parts off them to follow a religious writing.
When I was a Christian I saw a documentary on Circumcision, this was the final straw in my deconverting mind, the most cruel barbaric act from humans on babies, all to be at piece with their religious minds.
The flood fortunately was a story , but man is still cutting babies for their beliefs, ordered by the Bible, how’s that for something twisted and immoral.
When I left the church I was alone, many years ago now, no internet, no reassurance, it’s so refreshing to now have a channel like this and others to show that I’m not the only one to think my way out of a mind shackled life.

Derek remember you and I live in the south.. church and christianity runs deep here. Not all north america is as religous.. Im a transplant from NY and I've got to tell you , I've never heard of concerts being held in churches and churches on every corner and strip mall store fronts until I moved here. Times are definitely changing and yeah Religion in general is phasing out.

It's amazing how growing up listening to these Bible stories of Old Testament genocide and rape...and I was learning about these things as a child...it never made an impression. It seemed normal. If God said genocide and rape was justified, then it was justified. When I realize this now I understand why it so easy for people to use religion to spread hate.

The most important question that a person actually needs to answer is this, did Jesus actually physically rise from the dead? That's what matters because if he hadn't raised from the dead then none of this matters. But if he has been raised from the dead then all men are accountable to him.
Two points. First, the answer is no. Nobody saw it happen and an empty tomb is evidence of nothing more than a missing body. The end. Second, the convoluted "plan" that god supposedly set forth to take a spirit creature, transform it into a human only to preach to a VERY limited audience in only one geographical area only to allow that human to be murdered only to resurrect him nearly immediately so that the spirit creature could simply return home completely unscathed is not a sacrifice by any definition ever and all only to offer mankind a path to forgiveness for an action taken by only one human who had no concept or understanding of sin or death in a situation that could have easily been thwarted by an omniscient being who allowed if not promoted to occur and stupidly cursed all of mankind for. Sorry for the run-on sentence, but it doesn't warrant proper grammar. Nothing was lost nor given, according to logic and full understanding of the story.
