    I review the RovyVon S21 in Marble Gray (Micro-Arc Oxidation). This is an amazing finish I haven't seen on other flashlights before. High-quality build, I like the rotating switch on the head... I wonder why it's not used more in other side-switch lights.

    RovyVon S21 Video Transcript - The BEST EDC Searchlight!
    General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
    • I always get excited when I come across a light that's a bit different from the standard design you see out there. For me, the RovyVon S21 is one of those lights. The finish on this light is incredible - it looks and feels like marble and apparently is more durable than standard anodizing. More on that later. As many of you know, I'm a big tactical light guy, but the ease of use and design of the S21 has converted me… for now.
    • What you get in the box: RX10 EDC Organiser, USB-C cable, lanyard, spare o-rings, port cover replacement, Samsung 50E.
    • Comparison with Nitecore P23i, Fenix PD36R Pro
    Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel and reflector
    • The machining and finish on this light are second to none. I own a few RovyVon keychain lights, and even those have excellent build quality. The finish (MAO) reminds me of ceramic or marble and feels grippy and durable. It has a unique texture and clean look that I haven't seen before in another light. The coating is applied evenly. One thing I admire about RovyVon is their impeccable attention to detail. All the cutouts are milled perfectly and with good taste. There are no rough spots. Even the clip is impressive!
    • There's a magnet in the tail. Accepts 21700 cells - comes with Samsung 50E. Onboard charging. The port is nicely concealed with a small cover. Charging light indicator. Rotating switch paired with additional side switch. Smooth action with clear stops in between modes. Intuitive battery indicator with four lights.
    • SFT70, SMO reflector. SS Bezel, smoothed off low-key design that won't cause problems when getting through security checkpoints.
    UI - modes
    • The UI is simple to use which I really appreciate. Centre = lock.
    • Left for strobe and SOS. Press the side switch once to change mode.
    • Right for main modes. Press the side switch to change Eco, L, M, H. Press and hold for 10 seconds of turbo. Can reactivate.
    Performance - total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
    • Ceiling bounce test, CCT, CRI.
    • Impressive throw and large hotspot - could use it as a walking light easily on the lower modes. Lots of spill.
    Considerations
    • No shortcut to ML. Though it is marketed as a pocketable searchlight. Though memory mode is useful, you have to click through all the modes to go back to the ECO if you're in medium, etc.
    • It's pocketable but you'll know it's there! Amazingly, a light that can throw half a kilometer, and produce 3K lumens will fit in your pocket.
    • Shortcut to turbo requires two steps. Though I'm so used to tactical lights. The good news is that RovyVon also has another model the GL1 which is the tactical version of this light and has one one-step turbo through the tailswitch.
    Verdict
    Wow, as a side-switch light, this one is nearly perfect in my mind - great overall performance and sustained output, best of both worlds - flood and throw and a clean and unique look. If you're looking for the perfect long-range, floody flashlight… and you're less concerned about tactical features, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the S21.

      For sure... I'm keen to see what the GL1 is like though, and whether you can activate turbo for longer than 10 seconds.

    Beam looks a lot like my Sofirn C8L which is my go to for fast EUC night rides. Good combo of throw & flood. Friend has the Acebeam L35 which is also quite similar to this S21

      Nice, L35 is a bit like my Wurkkos TD01C. I never carry those larger lights around with me much through.

      @@DarrenYeoYT No doubt my C8L nor L35 are edc, for me atleast. But I do use it lots for specific purposes. My edc is TS22 70.3 hi cri but its def more flood than this S21 in a very similar pkg

    That is a very nice torch...however my critism of these really high lumen torches, is they burn out too quick! Everyone thinks its all about lumens, but the reality is you go on a hike or several hikes, whatever, they just dont last. I dont know why they dont have a really low setting to last for ages. My personal favourite is the streamlight sidewinder, you get over 100 hours on low power - they know what they are doing. Also just have AA batteries, just incase, they are available everywhere. Keep up the great vids

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  4 месяца назад

      Eco will give you around 65 hours runtime but it's still quite bright @ 30 lumens. A hidden moonlight mode would have been great.

    I just received the Sofirn IF30, and I heard everyone say the battery is underpowered and bad. I find the battery to be alright; it can handle the current. So far, my issue is Sofirn does not sell spare 32650 batteries. Do you know a good source to get spare 32650 batteries? For now, I'd rather use 21700 because they're easier to charge and I have plenty of strong ones. I do find a lot of 32650 LiPo batteries, but they're useless to me. Also, an annoyance to me is that all my Xstar bay chargers think the 32650 is full at 3.87v or 4v for some reason
    Edit
    My tests are done the 32650 with 30A discharge test overheated and lowered to 20A making battery 60°c ajd getting 5223mah
    And my samsung 50s 21700
    Could handle 30A max temp 48°c 4933mah so they almost test the same why that 32650 gotta be so bulky

      @scottsum1319 4 месяца назад +1

      The weird batt is the main reason why I didnt even consider the IF30. Went with the Wurkkos TS32 as a big lumens combo light with 3x 21700. That said, surprisingly (or perhaps not) I find the Sofirn C8L much more usable in a way smaller lighter pkg. & I like the rear switch with tactical instant turbo/strobe mode while out on walks

      @DarrenYeoYT  4 месяца назад +1

      Hi Dylan, when I got this light, I tried to find other 32650 cells but there's only those generic ones on AliExpress... And I don't trust them.. unsure what their maximum discharge rating is. For now, I just use a Molicel P42a which has a 45A rating. Be careful of that stock cell, it is supposedly only rated @6.5A so overloading it may be dangerous.

    that turbo mode seems like a gimmick

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  4 месяца назад

      10 seconds is not the best and I think they could definately push it to 30 seconds. Simple double press with no 'hold'. I wonder if the GL1 steps down after 10 secs too ..

    • @Studat
      @Studat 4 месяца назад

      @@DarrenYeoYT Agree, I often think Olight have under powered models in comparison to other companies, for example the Warrior 3S with only 24,000 ish CD but they hold that turbo for 2 mins. Makes me think Olight aren't that interested in having the best spec sheet but having very usable modes across the range.

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  4 месяца назад

      They have a long warranty period as well, I think it's to prevent LED burnouts, warranty claims etc. on the other hand, some of my Convoy lights runs extremely hot, pushed to the limit but no warranty haha @@Studat

    I try and avoid white/grey plastics as they tend to yellow over time.

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  4 месяца назад

      This is micro arc oxidised, so from what I read, a form of corundum (aluminium oxide) coating. I'm not sure how it will age, will have to see.

    • @AmmoC9M

      Ah! good to know. I wasn't certain if it was a polymer (which do tend to change over time, color change & brittleness). @@DarrenYeoYT

      @@AmmoC9Moh nope.. that wouldn't be a good coating... I do have an LED lenser P7R professional model and it has these large rubber numbers for shock resistance, but the actual light is hard anodised
