    At the beginning of this year I renewed my EDC set, and I carry a floodlight and a thrower at all times. For the choice of throwers, I restricted the candidate to three lights: one was the Rovyvon S21 - which you reviewed in this video. The other two candidates were the Nitecore P23i and the Fenix PD40 ver. 3.
    My use of the light is as follows: the light must turn on at 200 - 300 Lumens, able to hold for 8 - 10 hours at that level; and be able to switch to the highest possible output in a fraction of a second (3000 Lumens from the SFT70 LED used in all three flashlights above), and be gable to hold it for as long as possible. Avoiding to accidentally end with a strobing light is also very important for me.
    Well, for how much I liked the Rovyvon S21, the ten second timer on the turbo setting was a serious limitation, as I need one minute of high illumination to scan the far surroundings. The Fenix PD40, with its ring is a dream to switch from medium to turbo, and has a massive thermal inertia, but it after required two hands to control. My choice was therefore the P23i, with its two-buttons tailcap - one to turn the light at 300 Lumens, the other to switch to 3000 with a quick thumb pressure, without leaving the tactical grip.
    Thank you for a great review.
    Greetings,
    Anthony

    After watching this video, I decided to purchase an S21 and give it a try. Just a couple of observations: The one I purchased on Amazon from RovyVon Direct did not come with a Samsung battery, as did your unit. I got a RovyVon-branded 5000 mAh protected button-top cell with an onboard USB port. Also, the S21 apparently also comes in gunmetal as did the S23. The listing did not specify a color, and I assumed it would be black - mea culpa. I like the black much better but ended up with the gunmetal. Oh, well. It is what it is at this point.

      @@cheule lol yeah definitely. Ive always had a thing for lights, usually solar powered motion lights that i modify to be USB rechargeable or USB powered COB or Strip lights or DIY ones that i make myself using USB power banks or 18650s etc. Even turned 12v 1000LM COB lights into yard lights mounted to a pole with backup USB lighting for if the power ever goes out.
      With all the tons of different lights i have the Powersmith Voyager should be the last one ill ever need lol. Cant say id ever spend more than $25-50 on just a flashlight, super bright or not.

    This is the same kind of weird thinking ebike enthusiasts debate, the biggest, badest, fastest ebike when all that gets you is a short ride. If the flashlight was 10K lumens but for only 4 seconds would that make it better? The brighter the light the more power consumption the smaller torch the less power storage. If you're scared to death and only walking from your front door to the garbage can this is the light for you... if you have $120 to waste.

      I wish I had more strategy to my reviews, but honestly I just sort of review what I’m either buying for myself or I’m sent a review copy of from a company. Fenix did send me a couple headlamps back in the day, but then I never heard from them again.
      I would totally contact them except I already have to turn for many review offers and I’m still very backlogged. It kind of stresses me out-and I don’t want to be stressed out, this is just a hobby!

    This RovyVon is competing directly against the Fenix TK20R 2/UE. And unfortunately that momentary turbo forced setting makes this inferior. I don't understand why Rovyvon did it this way. Plenty of light manufacturers can drive Turbo for a couple mins with the SFT70, even on trickle rampdown, and that process is infinitely more useful than to force a button hold that forces rampdown at 10s anyways. There's no need to separate this mode from the main UI if they went out of their way to program a forced 10s stepdown; this should have just been added to the High setting. Now if you can hold Turbo indefinitely to bypass a pre-programmed stepdown by holding onto the main button, then it would have been a genius feature to separate that from the main UI. But that's not what's happening here, and it's a shame considering the light's form factor. As it is, the Fenix TK20R 2/UE is superior in every way.

    • @cheule
      @cheule  Год назад

      Do remember that releasing the button and pressing it again, it goes back to turbo immediately.

    • @FalconFXICCY
      @FalconFXICCY Год назад +1

      @@cheule I understand that. But it requires one to continuously re-engage the button every 10 seconds. In a situation where your attention needs to be focused on whatever you are pointing that beam towards, you probably don't want to worry about whether you need to re-click... You also mentioned that the head gets quite hot after just three Turbo clicks, and that metal button is right at the head and may be problematic if you don't have gloves on.

      It doesn't matter, it all doesn't matter. Why? Easy. This lights are not IP68 waterproof. They are rated to be ( by rovy von 🤫), but they are not. Even during quite shallow and quick submersions, this mf-ers "drink" water. Maybe this is fine for people who "collect" (hoard) flashlights, but certainly not for people who use them professionally or in outdoor settings. Definitely not for this price.
      And you don't have to believe me. There are reviews out there, which show that these flashlights are actually of poor quality, the just look nice.

    I prefer your reviews by far, but I have some critique for you if you'll listen. In this one you showed the manual and it clearly said steps down after 10s but then established it independently empirically. Better go know up front what it's supposed to do and comfirm it. Similarly on the baton 4 you didn't know about the powerbank function. These are oboth down to the same thing, failure to do your homework or refresher before the camera rolls. Maybe it's a race to publish first to get max views or something but it wouldn't take you long to RTFM each one before filming and hive yourself a little checklist for stuff to talk about so you don't miss stuff. Fair? My other complaint is unfair. I search for a particular light and you've got no videos on it. I scroll and eventually settle for less. Disappointing every time. My loyalty to your channel / you grew fast!
