I was in this concert on sunday in the cathedral of Trier / Germany. It was wonderful; it was like a touching of heaven and earth! I was very happy, to hear, to see und to TALK with these marvellous voices!
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has "...entered into My rest." From the epistle to the Hebrews. This old American is tearing up again, listening to this. Thank you, VOCES8.
What a beautiful prayer, even a celestial connection that VOCES 8 makes for all of us , who are God's children , to the Lord and Creator of the universe ...... even He Who is our common Father, and Maker.
Perfect, more perfect, most perfect. I love so many different genres of music (e.g. also Dream Theater), but this a capella music of the Renaissance goes deep into your heart and soul and when I first heard Palestrina‘s Papae Marcelli I said that God speaks through this music. And this ensemble is mind blowing in everything they sing.
Another gem with which her majesty is now crowned. Rest in peace Queen Elizabeth II. Many thanks VOCES8 for singing from the heart that which could never be expressed in mere words!
A most lovely and fitting tribute. If there is an angelic chorus in heaven then this is what it most assuredly sounds like. Thank you for sharing your incomparable artistry.
Appropriate and moving memorial to the Queen. It has been over 50 years sine I participated in music like this; the ethereal sounds evoke fondest memories of singing with college chums. Thank you for recording and posting.
I wish they would cover more of the emphatic masterpieces as they did with Elgar. It is so rare to have such a group of dedicated voices as this. Beautiful beautiful voices and construction, diction and clarity.
I think you also have to appreciate the beauty of this music. Of course it’s nice to hear the famous and exciting stuff but it’s impossible to neglect the fantastic music of the renaissance era
@@FranciscoFernandezD I'm not saying they don't, and I really enjoy their modern work, but I am saying that we should take time to appreciate other music as well. Especially at a time like this, the words 'Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace' are especially poignant.
Sublime. If you are not familiar with Orlando Gibbons - it is well worth while exploring his compositions. Several are tear-jerkers like this, the rest are just glorious. He was a Gentleman of the Chapel Royal, like the adult choristers who wear white bow ties in major services at Westminster Abbey when they join the Westminster Abbey choir ( the Children of the Chapel Royal stand in front, in their Tudor style uniforms.). Orlando Gibbons died in 1625 in Canterbury on his way to the South Coast for the ceremony to welcome Charles I's wife Henrietta Maria arriving from France. He is buried in Canterbury Cathedral.
As a Canadian fan of voces8, a supporter of our constitutional monarchy, and an admirer of our late Queen of Canada, I was really hoping that you would do something like this. Thank you very much. (from Doug, Luci's husband)
Beautiful. Our Lord could not have given us more merciful words than these. As I officiated at the funeral of my father, a servant of our God as an organist and choir director for seventy years, these words brought comfort and strengthened me to proclaim the victory of the Christ. Thank you for sharing your sacred music through your combined talent.
So touched! Another one of my ❤VOCES8 songs that I will save in VOCES8 folder to enjoy every single day! Thank you so much dear VOCES8 artists! God Bless!
This is again sung amazingly beautiful. I think you are the best vocal group with 8 singers in Great Britain at the moment. I wish you and the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 all the best with the loss of your late queen Elisabeth II. It must be quite difficult times right now and Monday the 19th of September will be an emotional farewell for 🇬🇧 and the world to an icon Elisabeth II has been for the U.K. and the whole world for over 70 years. I am sure Charles III will take over the responsibilities of being the new king 🤴 of your country. Because I am free the 19th of September I will look at the funeral ceremony on the television channel of the BBC and pay my respect in a distance. King Willem-Alexander, queen Maxima and princess Beatrix of the Netherlands will be attending the funeral in London on the 19th of September at the Westminster Abbey. They were also attending the funeral of Prince Phillip in April 2021
Well said Robert Meulendijk and I share your sentiment wholeheartedly, I will also follow the funeral on Monday. I am happy though that I will be able to hear these faboulous singers for the first time live on Friday. Very much looking forward to it. "Nunc dmittis" is a fitting tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth. May her Royal Majesty rest in peace.
Both this Mag and Nunc by Gibbons is one of the finest from its time. I've sung and conducted it many times but this must be about as beautiful as it can get and of especially poignant at this time.
The text is from the Gospel of Luke, the second chapter, and contains the exclamation by Simeon when he first saw the baby, Jesus, as Mary and Joseph brought their child into the Temple courts. Simeon, a devout Israelite Jew, had received a promise from the Lord that he would not die until he laid eyes on the Messiah. Simeon now declares that that promise has been fulfilled, so he can be released from this life. You can find Simeon in verses 25 through 35, but the whole story context spans verses 32-39. Yeshua (Jesus) means "salvation" (God saves), so there is a double meaning when Simeon says, "mine eyes have seen your Salvation (Yeshua)."
Nunca me dejan de sorprender con tan bellísimo arte coral. Muchas gracias y bendiciones. Desde Santiago de Chile. Dr.Fernando Rivas-Burattini. 🤝👏👏💐✝️🙏✝️🇨🇱🇨🇱.
Das hätte jetzt gerne mein Vater hören sollen. Er war am 25. Januar 1929 in Dresden geboren und starb am 31. Oktober 2010 in Berlin.
Thank you for this beautiful gesture. I think that Orlando Gibbons' oeuvre includes the most beautiful music ever written. It really is tear-jerker stuff. (This is the Record of John -the old Kings College Cambridge recording, the Hymnes and Songs of the Church, etc )
Worth 3 minutes of your time just to listen to the "Amen" at the end!
I was in this concert on sunday in the cathedral of Trier / Germany. It was wonderful; it was like a touching of heaven and earth! I was very happy, to hear, to see und to TALK with these marvellous voices!
This I the most perfect setting of the Nunc Dimittis. There is no more moving lightening of the gentiles.
Heavenly music, for a Godly Queen! We in the USA mourn her loss as you all do in England! Grace and Peace.

Hard to believe that choral music can be any more beautiful
I agree with you! Renaissance vocal music is too beautiful for this world.
I totally understand what you mean and agree on it - but I can assure you: just depending on the ensemble it might also get quite unearthly
@@chrst7346 In the case of this ensemble, EXTREMELY unearthly. In a beautiful way, of course.
Glorious I agree, but find The Sixteen's streamed concert from Liverpool Cathedral, it's every bit as gorgeous as this... and lasts an hour!
They are the pinnacle of choral performance-elevating the music and art.
A stunning, fitting tribute and memorial to Her Majesty...with the incredible voices (as always) to match.
Gorgeous…….and touching. A moving tribute to a glorious queen.
Absolutely beautiful. ♥️
God bless all of you. ✝️

I have performed this many times in some very good choirs, but have never heard it this precise and gorgeous line shaping. Nicely.done.
I was moved to tears because this is way too beautiful. Thank you Voces8. May her majesty rest in eternal peace.
Another gem with which her majesty is now crowned. Rest in peace Queen Elizabeth II. Many thanks VOCES8 for singing from the heart that which could never be expressed in mere words!
So fitting and beautifully performed. Thank you.
That last Amen is so beautiful it hurts 😭😭♥️♥️ thanks for sharing
Beautiful performance, everyone! Thanks for dedicating yourselves to early music! This was just...so gorgeous.

Wonderful, moving tribute. Sincere thanks on behalf of all of your supporters
Thanks for the amazing concert last sunday in the Cathedral of Trier, where this piece has been recorded!
What a lovely chapel. The sound is amazing!
Nothing 'small' about that

You should check their discography, they definitely record more modern repertoire than what you think

What a fitting and beautiful tribute to Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II, Dei Gratia Regina.
Thank you Voces 8.
For years now these angelic voices have graced us with harmonic splendor of the highest order. Bravo.
What A Moving And Beautiful Tribute. Thank You Voces8 For This Gift Of Your Music 💙

Love this song... an amazing performance
Lovely performance as always!
I loved singing alto on the Gloria of this setting.
What a lovely tribute, and performed with your usual crystalline clarity and sensitivity. Nga mihi nui from Aotearoa.
This beautiful singing voices speak to the soul, and unrivaled, and off the charts
Just beautiful. As always! ❤️
The balance and blend are fantastic 😍

That's really sweet of you guys, thank you so much for doing this.
Magnificent!
Brilliant!
Wonderful! Much as I like to see the singers in close-up, this more distant recording was more respectful and very fitting to the occasion.
Agreed it was wonderfully fitting.
Joseph Addison said: "Music, the greatest good that mortals know and all of heaven we have hear below."

Ethereal. Were public worship conducted in accord with this excellence, there would be no falling away from a true and lively faith.

Please record an Acapella piece based on Einaudi's experience 😇
I am doing one of you pieces in Choir RN and it just sounds awesome I really want to do something like this someday any advice?
Beautiful. When do you get the new Johnny?

Magnífico homenaje. ¿En que iglesia está grabado?

Muchas gracias. Ya me informaron que es la catedral San Pedro de Treveris (Trier, Alemania) Maraviloso espacio sagrado.
