Great pictures. Light painting the stack would have been a mission to get even coverage. Would be great if you could do a video on how you post-processed the pictures.
astrophotography is one of the reasons that made me bought my first digital camera this summer (an old sony a77 to use with my minolta lenses), I need to dig more into that (and avoid missing another comet for example...)
Cool to be there with you. It is crazy overcast and heavy rain here tonight, so this made my night😄 It would be supercool if you make a video editing the pics from this video. Greetings from Norway
We go through such great lengths just for that perfect shot. Thank you for sharing a glimpse of your process and providing insight into your way of thinking and seeing things!
Coincidently I'm back to photography (had kind of abandoned because I thought - still think - I suck) and looking into astrophotography with high interest. Beautiful images, as usual. Thanks for sharing.
I am sure you don't suck, you just have high expectations. Take the time to enjoy the experience and work on improving your skills so you are happier. Not an overnight process as I can attest to.
0:14 seconds - This is why I am dubious about buying used gear! [Something truly unique would have to be happening for me to sit my camera gear so close to sea water. Even then I'm not sure. It needs to live for another day!].
Absolutely stunning images. Thank you so much for sharing your work here. Your tutorials helped me to capture the milkyway for the first time on my birthday!! I've captured it twice now and learning more each time I shoot. Someday I hope I can capture images this beautiful and clear.
Great shots Nick. My bit of the UK didn't have much luck with the weather during Milky Way core season this year so have yet to try out my 'new' Mirrorless Canon EOS R and my MSM Star tracker but hope to do a bit over the winter and be ready for next year. I know Sony's have better dynamic range but going from APSC to FF I hope I'll see a difference. For non-core season that shot at 6:12 looked pretty spectacular!
@Nick any update on a review of the SIII for Astro (including any large prints that you've had the chance to do)? Stumbled into your content this weekend...lost track of how many of your videos I've watched at this point. Keep it up!
Thank You So MUCH for your share of images with the A7Siii, yes a buy since A7Sii no longer available. Does it have a Intervalometer added like they added to the A7iii?
Nick, great job! I especially like how you exploited the light pollution, particularly on that image looking up the coast. I know you've probably done this in other videos, but it would help me to see how you processed these images. Dual processing, yes, but specifically, how did you work the sky...white balance, noise vs sharpness, pop, etc.? Thanks much. Gerry
that a7s3 is just ridiculous, i'm assuming the night video was with zero light assist in the pitch black the more i see of this camera the more i wish i could afford one without out any doubt best camera on the market for low light and video WOW, thanks mate .
-Hey Nick I got a question you talk about using a wide-angle lens in some of your videos in astrophotography around a 25mm or so at such a wide-angle how do you get the results that looks like it is closeup shots? I struggle with just getting stars seen in my pics much less nebula galaxies or witchhead nebulas. I need a complete tuturioal on how to do this with just my DSLR and a tripod.
Great stuff Nick Page . We've just moved house in the UK . An old ferrymans house on the River Avon in Worcestershire . Around 400 years old . All around us in the village are even older places . . As we have a River at the bottom of our garden , overlooking a huge weir pool . With an old Mill across the river from us . Please Google Cropthorne Mill and you will see what I'm on about . We moved here 3 weeks ago and already it's home . Love your vlogs not quite so chaotic as Gavins but still good quality lessons and entertaining too . Nice one .
What white balance did you settle on for the Milky Way part of the sky on the one with the light pollution sea stack and the other photo with the sea stack silhouette? Love the Oregon coastal sea stacks.
Whhhhaaaa. That low light shutter blur is hectic. Good to see this effect in the real world. It still looks great honestly. Re the photos the town light is warm, I dig it & the silhouette shots from the other side are really nice. Great vid Niko thanks for sharing.
I know its bad to praise a camera rather than the photographer. But the a7siii looks amazing. Love your channel and I have watched you mastering dodging and burning training like a million times. Keep up the good work
Great video and beautiful images. How big of a file are you getting with that camera. If it is really small do you use a program like AI Gigapixel to enlarge it?
Nick - wonderful as usual. Just by coincidence I’m headed to Ruby Beach in Washington State this weekend to do this exact same type of photography. Thanks for the inspiration and tips...
@@terrywbreedlove I did make it to Ruby Beach. I came away with a couple of beautiful photos of the moon setting over the ocean. Too much moon light for Milky Way photos... Norm
Great work Nick! I’ve ordered the A7s3 for video & 4k timelapses, I’ve also just picked up the 12-24f2.8gm which should be a killer for Astro timelapse! Love your channel🥰🙏🤗 Vinnie Appice or Carmine Appice? Who do you prefer? 🤘🤘🤘
Loved this video! I started doing astro this year because of the lockdown and it turned out to be way easier than I thought it would be. I got some stunners at Rainier and St. Helens! Will you have any workshops next year?
Wow that's pretty cool you were trying at f8! Loved the color contrast in the main image too, nice last snag on the milkyway. I tried at Talullah Gorge 2 days ago, came out half decent but not enough definition...pain in editing.
Dear Nick. what is it that you like about Fiji/Sony cameras/lenses? Do they meet your vision or do they give you the best results at what you "believe" a vision should be?
The Milky Way looks amazing in the pinnicle shot at 6:06. What were the settings? Could you have used that for the first composition and did a two shot exposure blend?
@Nick Page Mate was the astro performance like with the sensor and what settings were you using for shooting the MW with the s3.. Been waiting for s3 for years as my astro camera....a review for astro and etc would be great
Hello from Spain! I'm thinking about to buy a new camera. i know that Sony A7 SIII has the best 4K, but... Are 12MP good for stills? Landscapes, persons, animals, citys, stars in the night... What do you think? Thanks!
Was this the 12-24 Sony? I have the 16-35 and haven’t even tried Astro because I’m a photography newb.. trying to figure out what to expect with different lenses at night. Amazing image quality!!!
Are you happy with wide angle f2.8 lenses for astrophotography or prefer a slightly faster lens? I have the Sigma 14-24 2.8 but am considering the Sony 20mm 1.8 specifically for this application
@@NickPage it does bring high MP cameras into question. I just bought a 20MP R6 and I'm thrilled with its files. I'm sure I could get 30" x 20"/24" prints with them, maybe bigger, that only a pixel peeper would have issues with.
yeah, its always a trade off between, iso performance, computer lag, and the detail of higher resolution. honestly I shoot like I am going to print a lot, then seldom do, but someday..... someday.....
I have a idea for you and the crew. Do a contest. You, Gavin, uncle grumpy and Michael Shainblum, each one take a beginning photographer. Guild them in four different areas (Waterfalls, seascapes, night photography and sunset or sunrise) take the viewer through the contest from the shot and through editing. Display all the photos to the viewer and let there be a vote. One with the most vote wins. Lets it have the funny and instructional, so we the viewer can be entertained and learn. I think that would be lots of fun to watch!
Question - Are you ever concerned that shooting a lens wide open is not necessarily the sharpest aperture for that lens? Would you ever stop down to the lens "sweet spot" to increase sharpness? Or is that counter-intuitive to Astrophotography? Curious to read your take on the subject.
sometimes I do stop down a bit, if the light hasn't dropped too much. that first night shot was 3.5, just for a touch more sharpness, but later in the evening, nothing kills the sharpness more than crazy high iso's
He likely focuses on the rock formations and does a separate exposure at a sharper aperture and then blends them, there looks as though the town was casting an adequate amount of light.
@@seanolson2209 Actually all of these were focused on the stars to infinity. Because we were so far away from the rock formations they were sharp as well
Great pictures. Light painting the stack would have been a mission to get even coverage. Would be great if you could do a video on how you post-processed the pictures.
