Repairing and opening up a Parkside SDS Drill from Lidl.

- Not often I get any Parkside tools in for repair and even fewer that can be fixed.
Parkside is a very basic DIY range of power tools supplied by Lidl.
But with 3 year warrenty that lidl actually upholds. You cannot go far wrong with them.
Iv seem lads buy parkside wall chasers for less then the price of 1 normal blade.
And use them to chase out several houses before they packed up. And the still get them replaced under warrenty.
some of the tools are actually quite good but some are also simply awful. But they are all cheap.

Lidl, you go in for a loaf of bread and out with a welder and a wetsuit.
"Did you get the bread, dear?"
"Even better than that........."
Do you fancy a bath
@@robinbeckford ........a bought a canoe 😂
A foot-activated log splitter. All I need is some logs and fire to put them in
well, this is EXACTLY my experience (about 15 years ago here in Germany). Sadly, they severely lack in the wetsuit department since at least 2010, but my LIDL "Pegaso" wetsuit set from 2008 survived more than 600 dives and is still in relatively in good shape.
On the tool side of things, my PABSW 10.8 A1 battery drill from 2013 (at that time ACTUALLY "made by Einhell", i.e. "Imported from Taiwan / China" by Einhell) still survives to the present day after a whole house renovation. The reason I bought it at that time was that the complete drill set from LIDL cost as much as a second battery for another - at that time battery-wise compatible - Einhell tool I bought some weeks before. Which also survived everything I did with/to it since then.
I also own a LIDL MIG welder and a plasma cutter and am reasonably happy with them after some modifications, too.
The new tools since at least 2020 are a lot more "quality diverse", but I think that is the case with almost any other non-professional brands, too.
A Lidl stone caught in the switch. remarkable.
This is the content we want to see!
Love to see Titan/Erbaurer stuff from Screwfix too!
Thumbs up.
Erbauer have upped their game in the last 2 years. Personally i would put them just in line after the big boys or dewalt , milwaukee, bosch , hikoki , makita and metabo. Ahead of evolution and ryobi in my opinion. I think Titan has some ground to make up but they are catering for the budget market in opposition to parkside and ferrex I think. Just my humble opinion from owning at least one of all these tools over that last 10 years.
@@jessejameson154 thanks - I had my eye on their cordless drill twin pack it was £160 with 2 x 5amp batteries a while ago!
Ì know a chippie that swears by Lidl tools. They're cheap, no quibble warranty and no fecker will steal them on the site :D
I always have my parkside tools on top of my makita tools in the car. Nobody has broken in, and in fact i've left the window down a couple times overnight, nothing taken.
As a farmer I own a bunch of parkside tools and let me tell you I got my money's worth out of any one of them. Have the cordless angle grinder, a jigsaw, regular cordless drill and impact driver and 2 nut guns -one is completely falling apart, but still works (doesn't hammer very much, since the anvil and steel bush are very worn and wobbly). But they keep on working. The batteries last surprisingly well. Some were bought in 2017 and are still kicking solid. If you buy them for trade, you will only get 1 year warranty. (never had to return any of my tools, so that's saying something about longevity as well)
What’s this on a model farm lol, I’m surprised I bought a fancy parkside hot air gun and straight out the box it wouldn’t turn off, got it refunded
I’ve had same experience they’re a decent tool. I’m not pro but do a lot of projects doing up my house, cars etc. 20V cordless tools really good. I’ve a corded hammer drill that’s had quite a few hot suppers over 5 or 6 yrs. a lot in kango mode and still flying it. Only issue I’ve had is cordless drill driver hammer action is woeful.
@@rbxrockettrio8650Had the same problem with a Parkside heat gun... Shite!
I had the exact opposite experience with parkshit toys. There was not a single X20V toy that lasted the warranty period, with one in particular having to be returned multiple times, the others weren't just because I don't use them. Slowly switching to Einhell. Not that much more expensive and far, FAR better.
@@zefautino good glad you found something that’s better for you, I don’t find einhell much better. But most importantly relax it’s just tools don’t take it personal 😂
Lidl''s Black series of tools (performance branded) gets you 5 year warranty, worst case if they can't fix your tool is, they will give you a new one or return the money. Better warranty than most professional brands tbh.
i can confirm. Lidl France even send me sometimes brand new tool without asking to return the defective tools (grizzly tools)
performance series are brushless (more power, less battery drain ec).
I’ve bought quite a few parkside tools and they are good quality for the price and they are still running well (DIY use). No hesitation in buying them in the future. 👍🏴
I have the very same SDS drill and what a solid performer it is too. I've done everything from digging up gravel and concrete to removing tree stumps with it and it has never missed a beat in five years. It doesn't surprise me that the one in the video was only a broken lead.
my favourite brand of tools i use them daily
At least 10 years ago I bought an Orange body 1050w Parkside SDS mains drill for one task. I still have it and it works very well.
I have bought high quality tools as a long term choice. Often because they just feel so nice to use.
Love the channel Dean.
If you ever get the time, can you through the different greases used on the power tools?
Thank you for the time and effort you put in to get these videos out..
Parkside are not a bad make Dean and i think they know how to play the money game buy pumping out these tools plus they update them as well so when you do break your model you wont be buying the same one, good show as always Dean.
I once heard somewhere that in Germany there's actually a legal regulation that products sold as "tools" have to comply with certain standards of quality. How true this is, and whether there's any real difference to other European countries I don't know. One of the things I find most remarkable about the Parkside stuff is it's not just run of the mill knockoffs like you would expect but they actually have some fairly unique and well designed products as well as occasional specialist things like die grinders and Swedish pipe wrenches that you would never expect to find in a high street tool store, let alone your local supermarket
Better quilty product than Milwaukee 😅b
I find myself speaking with an Irish accent now when I'm fixing tools. I'm not Irish
You got off easy! I started throwing the screws around and have no idea where the hell they went to...
As always. A great job.
Well done
awesome. loving the FIX videos..
Good video, and good catch on the stone xhip!
Repairing stuff... Fantastic👍👍 The part I dread is when I open the case and springs and washers fly in all directions 🤣
The Parkside tools have been really popular here in Germany, loads of people buy them.
Id say for a cheap tool brand they are the best you can buy honestly at the price point they sell these machines at you cant find anything better and at a higher price you might aswell just get the real deal aka a Bosch or Makita.
At lest I have never really seen cheap tools as good as the Parkside tools.
BUT I would NOT buy their cordless tools for sake of battery replacements and repairability. You have a higher chance getting more hours out of a corded machine and fixing it when it breaks.
Brushes wear out, you can make something fit the brushholders.
Switch can probably be replaced too by making a Bosch or Makita switch fit or buying the right switch off Aliexpress.
Also I cant imagine their batteries are assembled with very high quality cells so I expect them to last half as long as a quality tool battery. Cant imagine Parkside using the same battery system for 10+ years and supporting legacy batteries.
I have Bosch batteries from 2014 and they are still good, cant imagine a Parkside battery lasting more than ~5 years.
Better off buying your most used tool from Makita with two batteries and expanding your tools by buying Mellif for example.
Excelentes videos .muchas gracias . Saludos desde argentina
8:52 - a fuse in a plug, every time I see it, I'm impressed (I'm from a country that doesn't use foot, or stones for measurements).
Nice video 📹 👍
You surprised me saying positive things about Lidl special👌
Bought ne of there grinders for a meere 29 quid, and its now 2 years in, still works no bother.. Great little yoke...
Totally agree £39.99 with a 3 year guarantee not bad
The case looks like a Metabo, the inner pieces also like metabo and Bosch… probably they get build in the same factoria like the other two in Shenzhen, Tschoina.
But nothing wrong with em. Looking forward for you to get us some of the cordless toys, if you want.
I do the same job as you. I see that this drill has been refurbished and runs very well. Your skills are very professional. The end result is amazing. Well done. Thanks a lot. Thank you teacher❤❤❤
Good spot with the stone in there
Thank you Sir
I love parkside exellent quality😊
They're cheap ,reliable and no one will steal them!
Good video, thanks. I have one of these Parkside SDS drills. I noticed lately that I need to push it fairly hard to get the hammer to work. I'm guessing it might be dust blocking up the SDS mechanism but I'm not sure. Do you know if it is easy to open it up to clean and re-grease? It is less than a year old so should be still under warranty.
After a quick bit of googling, it surprisingly seems you can get a fair few parts for them.
I have been using one of these in an above-average DIY capacity for over 13 years - probably an earlier model. It too had an erratic contact which I traced to close to the drill body. It was caused because the blow case, which is different from yours, is too small and required that the cable be bent very tightly, eventually causing a fracture in the cable. The clips on the case are too weak and need reinforcing. When the case is the only reason for complaint then the tool must be worth having.
good job
The Aldi tools used to come with a spare set of brushes even!
As a diy'er I used a parkside cordless drill 20v for mixing every batch of tile adhesive, every joist hole for pipes, every screw and drill hole in anything from doors to door frames and kitchen assembly to IKEA furniture. Even mixed concrete while waiting on the proper mixer to arrive. She sh*t the bed whilst driving 5*100 screws into 4*2 timbers for the shed. The switch melted, i whacked her and she kept going eventually failing with an almighty Guinness fart, smoke and she was no more. Drove back to shop got another one for €49. Have 5 batteries now. They're not as comfy as a DeWalt and lacks the power compared to most.
However as an all rounder they work well for the money and if someone nicks it i wont worry compared to say a Makita being lifted
Sometimes 'Mains'Tool have their Place...
Good tip on the chasers Dean, I didn't know they did them and I need one to do my own house in the next couple of months. Not a tool that's worth me buying from a good make as I don't do a lot of house bashing.
I hadn't really thought about this before (hadn't needed to) but when the brush holder rotates to the low-speed position does it pick up on contacts supplying a lower voltage?
I have found parkside tools to be a mixed bag. Some are just fine some are just crap, it seems to depend on the manufacturer, so far all tools made by grizzly have been fine .
I bought a parkside 5 pc ratcheting wrench set a while back and they have been great. especially considering it was only 15€ for the set
Cheeky stone - these are all made by Einhell i believe
I wonder if you'd say the same things about new parkside tools. They're not getting much more expensive, and the reliability seems to be on a downward slope. Saws that can't hold an angle, grinders that stall out and that have push button electronic switches, impacts with random max torque depending on the unit, etc. I'm a fan but it seems their QC and engineering are very lean, to the detriment of producing products that last more than a year.
Arnold Schwarzenegger do ads for these
I repaired a parkside angle grinder and the stator winding last tour was between the stator and armature 😂 the armature just ground it this wire.
Lidl is a curse lol I went in for some eggs and bread I came out with some parkside screwdriver bits a drill set 2 fishing reels and a parkside drill my missus was not happy because I forgot the bread and eggs lol 😂
They are never happy anyway.
Dean, whats your go-to tool brand that you would suggest people to buy?
That cable is good in the winter nothing worse than cold pvc cable in the garage
Like harbor freight tools here in the States but with an actual warranty
Far better than Harbor Freight by a long way.
i think the leads in the brush block got reversed as when you flip the directional toggle switch the chuck runs the opposite direction. Unless it is like that from the factory which is strange. My Bosch works like i mentioned. Your videos are great. Thanks for sharing the knowledge
Iv just seen a advert with arnie, advertising this brand
would love to hear your opinion on their performance brushless range. I've got a drill/driver with hammer function and it's a beast.
He always goes against using drill drivers in their hammer mode, as the gearboxes aren‘t going to hold up!
@@Elektrotechniker Yeah i know that. But given that for such a tool, i mostly use the hammer drilling function to hang shelves or light fittings occassionaly in brick or concrete, I'm more interested in his overall opinion of the build quality.
Hey dean, do you happen to be familiar with the Belgian power tools brand PowerPlus?
Greetings from belgium!
The one good thing about Parkside tools is no one is going to rob them 👍
Oh yes they do.
@@Biffo1262 really, Jesus nothing safe , didn't think they bother
hi dean is there a difference between a stator and field coil
They're like 40eur on sale, a bosch or makita hammer like this one would be 120 to 150eur.
👍👍
Parkside tools aren't bad for the price 😁 and I do believe they are manufactured by Einhell same as ozito....
I believe they are made by einhell.
Parkside is a German company, and German power tool companies tend to do a decent standard when it comes to tools, even budget tools.
Nice price for the quality. I think most of the tools are made in Germany. I was told on site a while ago parkside manufacturing has something to do with the bosch group I could be wrong 👍
Nope all of them are made in China
@@leonk.1031 all tools are made in China
@@jkd7799Yann I've got a Metabo vari-speed grinder. One of the cheaper models even so it's made in Nürtingen in Germany. so was my Metabo SSD drill. I bought one of these machines just to knock the plaster off my internal walls it cost me €49 euro...did the job OK.....Tom
See what they are like inside😂😂😂, exactly what would do myself
Not tee bag eh! You will developing a Canadian accent next 😁
I love it that people get the reference 👍
@@deandohertygreaser sure do. Thanks for the videos learning a lot 👍🏻.
Where’s the Makita disassembler has it been retired?
The Wiha screwdriver set costs as much as a drill.
had same drill lasted years of knocking holes in wall for back box .dropped it of top of ladders nothing broke .the thing that destroyed it was 5"" bore hole in tough brick ,it does not have clutch .£50 will buy again better then worrying about having £300 drill nicked out your van
Aldi have discontinued the batteries for their 20/40 v tools, a dirty trick to make us buy new tools.
That almost sounds lice a recommendation for Parkside, given the price of it?
it is good stuff for the price, plus the warranty they give you makes it even better. Its not pro, but i see a lot of professionals using them and tryin to get them fixed.
Thought you might have cleaned it.
Made by Einhell
Hello Dean , you are my favourite channel on RUclips. I’ve only just subscribe because I’m useless with phones . I’ve wanted to comment so many times but have been unable .
I am a tool addict , power tools , hand tools anything . I watch you strip Makita stuff and repair them and I’m dying to have a go . I go to bootsales every week and look at all these drills , drivers etc . Some battered , some like new . Ive never bought any for obvious reasons but I’d like to buy one as an experiment, to put what I’ve learnt from you into practice . I have a multi tester but don’t really know how to use it . I’m quite handy as I work part time in maintenance in a care home , I’m 70 by the way .
I do electrical work changing light fittings, sockets , extractor fans but that’s just changing like for like .
Do the parts cost a lot ? What would you reccomend I have a go at mostly in the bootsales it’s Dewalt and Makita . You have a great channel , I watch you for hours. Best wishes
Gordon
If you visit your local council tip and ask for an old drill or two, they will usually just give them to you for free as long as you ain't making a business out of it.
So Parkside better than Milwaukee?
Anyone remember “Elu” power tools.
just from a curiousity perspective why don't you just cut and strip the old flex back instead of replacing the whole thing? is it from a time perspective of just Idk
leads like that will likely be damaged in a few places, hard to see from outside. Four sake of few euro, new lead, no doubts
@@Landtwister
Thats verry atypical. Especially if the damage is near the machine/the plug. It is a high quality rubber cable which looks not realy damaged. It is typical for tools that often be used and pack back in the box, that the cable knik near the knik Protection/ the Plug.
@@Landtwister that makes sense thanks for clearing it up :)
I have this drill, have used the shit out it, dropped it off ladders and looks much better than that. That thing must have had some action
Are they made in Germany or is that just marketing?
Lidl have their own 'brands' BUT they don't actually design, set up a factory and make the stuff. This drill will have been made by a big name company - if it looks like Akita it quite probably is Akita!
Did buy a Parkside impact gun £60 and it wouldn't take the skin off a rice pudding
Parkside & Einhell tools used t be made in the same Bosch factories a few years ago
Nope
Easy fix
Ziptie cabel to handle 😂
yeah...good ole Lidl and their Parkside range. Such good value but I killed my combi gearbox by asking too much off it driving M8 coach screws on a daily basis motoring garage doors. Next stop DeWalt.
Ha ha ha, I wanted to ask you for your opinion about Parkside. I treat them as one job throw away.
Parkside love to copy Bosch. They tried to copy their drill press, which I actually own (Bosch one, not Chinesium Parkside). It struggled drilling into the wood.
But the milwaukee hi impact I now not your favourite m18 lot of money but its unbelievable you put a bar on a wheel nut stand on it nothing put that gun on it and wow its unbelievable
I suppose you understand what your on about 😮
Parkside is owned by Einhell. The drill you've opened up was £19:99 two years ago.
bullshit... just fantasy..
Parkside is a brand owned by Lidl. They slap it on tools sourced from various subcontractors. The Parkside tools marked as manufactured by "Grizzly Tools" seem to be mostly Einhell (who are also sourcing many of their tools from Chinese OEMs), and many of the better regarded tools are marked as made by Kompernass. The ones where the label doesn't mention either Grizzly or Kompernass are probably directly from some other Chinese OEM.
I had one of those and managed to kill it within 2 weeks using it. You get what you pay for.
On a job years a parkside grinder armature caught on fire while I was using it,not my grinder, biggest pile of #£_& I ever used.
Same company that make draper make parkside
My fact for the day!
Einhell is the parent company of Parkside, German of course. However, Draper is still Completely British owned. They have become distributors for a few small German outfits.
But as we know, they're all made in China/Vietnam/Taiwan. I'm guessing that it's the quality control that's the main difference between the end products. Also luck of the draw!
@@bayadere8308 the draper batteries will power the parkside tools
Yes, that appears to be correct, althouugh only one way i.e. Draper to Parkside but not the opposite way unless a modification is made.@@noelcahill6707
@@bayadere8308 To my modest knowledge as a German owning Parkside, Einhell, Scheppach, Güde and some other brands hobbyist level power tools (and living somewhat near the german LIDL subsidiary (?) "Grizzly Tools" company near Aschaffenburg), LIDL stopped rebranding Einhell tools at least 10 years ago and started importing their tool range from exactly the same chinese or taiwanese companies all other brands I mentioned above already did 5-10 years earlier, thus cutting out the middle man and saving costs.
Here in Germany and as a non-professional, in most cases you have the "choice" to get essentially the same tool with a little different shell design (and pricetag) from all of the above "manufacturers", which in reality are only China-importers with different levels of customer support.
Alternatively, you buy Makita (somewhat reasonably priced new) or Festool second hand (sometimes surprisingly cheap from industry auctions). Alternatively, sometimes you can get Bosch blue or Metabo corded tools for a reasonable price.
Battery-/pricewise, the Parkside X20V stuff is REALLY worth its money, and there are a LOT of adapters for most of the other relevant brands out there if you have a 3D Printer (or know someone who has one). I had no problems repowering an old DeWalt 14.4V NiCad Impact with a X20V-Battery adapter from Thingiverse for a friend some months ago, and it still survives "farm use" until today....
That SDS dill was £19.99 lmao
Yea, the quality of flex has gotten crappy & expensive to replace. BootsOwen sent me over to sub.
I wanted a flex grinder since they use bosch batteries. Are they bad now?
Nothing I ever bought from Lidl or Aldi turned out to be junk.
Nothing wrong with Parkside.........
That one appears to have had a hard life.
I belive that Parkside tools are actually made by Einhell
the switch is dodgy on many parkside tools..ans they dont have that finesse ..
Their batteries are crap and they keep changing the design of them so after a couple of years you can't find a replacement for a lot of them.
The same firm that makes Bosches DIY range makes Parkside drills etc, check the manufacturer's German address and cross-check it with Boshe's address for returning damaged equipment, same address, I've had a couple of Parkside things, a great Grinder (got stolen) and a cordless drill, the battery blew up while charging but there was a reason for that happening that had nothing to do with the drill, dodgy wiring in a flat I was renting that the overload circuit on the ring main was not wired up so the overload cutout didn't work and the wattage was double the electrical regs recommended, the landlord did all his own DIY and would listen to no one, he knew everything he told me one day, wow some guy, the oracle of Northumberland,
einhell>>>parkside
This piece of crap has broken 3 times, and I've used it like 15 times together.... Not happy with this hammer drill at all
