  • Another lump of tools sent in for repair. This lot was sent in from a company who make garden ornaments out of concreat.
    Only the grinders repaired in this lot, the hitachi impactor was not worth fixing.
    No shortage of grinders needing repaired I this game. They are one of the most used and abused tools out there, so your bound to see a lot.

    I love to see a proper Irish man working with his hands, cheers from Latvia. In my work place, we repair our tools till they fall apart, I have so many hours of experience. The only difference in my work is that, if the company doesn't provide parts, like a simple switch, we buy them from China. It's not a legit part but for 2 euros I can replace a switch and give a machine a couple of hundred extra hours. It's like a mafia, some tools are meant to be thrown out, even the problem is a simple switch.

    • @Diablo-jt4tv
      @Diablo-jt4tv 5 месяцев назад +2

      There is no excuse that the switch doesn't come separately from the motor or the brains of the machine.

    • @doctorlefthandthread
      @doctorlefthandthread 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@Diablo-jt4tv I know it's not good companies should be made to make modular replacement possible

    • @Diablo-jt4tv
      @Diablo-jt4tv 5 месяцев назад +3

      It's such a shame sometimes. I would prefer to use original parts but when something as simple as a switch comes in an assembly of parts with a manufactures tag of 50 euros in machine that cost 80 euros, its just extortion, a mafia. I can clip off and replacer any switch with a 2 euro Chinese switch. It's not as pretty as a original part but it keeps the tool running, as I see it it's the fault of manufacture to not provide modular parts for their tools. @@doctorlefthandthread

    I'm not familiar with English electricty and repairs, but in the Netherlands it's a no go to put an earthed plug on a double isolated machine used for professional work. It's labeled as a false sense of security since the earth leakage circuit breaker won't work on this machine (especially worth when working in a wet environment and not getting electrocuted)

  • @andygardiner6526
    @andygardiner6526 5 месяцев назад +1

    The last grinder is a 700w unit so, if I stuck a PAT on it, I would normally fail it and replace the 13A fuse with a 5A. Do you leave it at 13A as that's what was fitted by the customer, does it get a PAT before collection and changed, or does that grinder blow 5A too often under surge loads so it gets a 13A anyway?

    • @deandohertygreaser
      @deandohertygreaser  5 месяцев назад

      Startup amps are to high. 13amp fuse is needed on these.

    • @AndrewStrydomBRP
      @AndrewStrydomBRP 5 месяцев назад

      @@deandohertygreaser Worth looking up the breaking curve/envelope for a BS1362 fuse (what is fitted in plugs)
      A 3a will let you pull 10a for about 5 seconds before blowing, a 5a will give you about 10a for good 10 seconds. (approx 2x the rating for 10 seconds), and a significant amount more for just a 1 second startup time.
      Probably would have fitted 7 or 10a myself, lower is always better even if the fuse is just meant to protect the lead and not the device, a well selected fuse can pull double duty.
