There needs to be a top 20 of this list. There are too many R&B greats that were left on the cutting room floor. Patti, Gladys, Brandy, Aaliyah, Lauryn, Toni, Teena, Jill, Erykah, and Minnie are all worthy of being on here. 6 of them may have gotten honorable mentions, but that isn't good enough. Not for me at least.
how old are you be fair when making judgment the ladies mentioned the likes of Aretha Whitney Mariah Gladys Knight and more cant be compared to Aaliyah Janet or even Beyonce and Alicia. No match. The legends are irreplacable.
Toni Braxton and Lauryn Hill honorable mentions??? Where are the three princess of R&B Brandy, Monica and Aaliyah?? Ms Mojo should have done a different list Contemporary R&B and Classic R&B, thank God they didn't include Rihanna, sorry people but Rihanna is not R&B, maybe she started her career with some RnB background but she's Pop. Other amazing girls like Ashanti, Fantasia, Índia Arie, Kelly Price, Faith Evans deserve a place on this list.
I think Rihanna is better R & B artist than Aretha Franklin or Whitney Houston. Rihanna is black, so she should be included. After all R & B means Rhythm & Black.
Bruh Bruh What? I am not a racist at all! I love especially black women. I also love Asian women. I am a white male! Well I love white women too. I was in a store which sells second-hand books and CDs. I asked the seller: "Have you Janet Jackson CDs". He answered to me: "It's in the Black music." So, I assumed that R & B means Rhythm & Black, just like a normal man would do. So I found Janet Jackson CDs in a liitle box. I am a big fan of Rihanna, so I am defintely not a racist!!! I'd love to have a black woman as a wife.
im mexican and i instantly expected aaliyah AT LEAST yo be in top 4. so disappointed she only knows a handful of people. they need real people to help with these lists. 😒
Sunny T but Toni Braxton is one of the highest selling female r&b artist in history. They put Alicia keys and Rihanna like wtf. Rihanna not even r&b and Alicia keys shouldn’t be on the list.
This list is trash. Most of these deserve to be on this list but Beyonce has no place here. She's queen don't me wrong, I love her and everything that she does but she's not R&B, he's pop and hip hop. Also, how dare you not include Brandy, Monica, Aaliyah, or Jasmine Sullivan. I bet this list was made by someone who doesn't know the real shit, R&B is an underground genre really, everyone sleeps on it smdh.
James Newman, how about you make a RUclips channel and come up with the list. Making a list is extremely difficult especially if you have 20 great R&B artist, but you have to choose 10 on the list.

I think toni braxton should be on the list. And mariah carey should be at least no 2. She produced write the material all by herself. And her voice is amazing, unique and no one could sing butterfly more beautiful that she does
My List 10. Monica 9. Ashanti 8. Alicia Keys 7. Jennifer Hudson 6. Mary J Blige 5. Aaliyah 4. Lauren Hill 3. Beyoncé 2. Whitney Huston 1. Aretha Franklin
Roberta Flack, Aaliyah, Cheryl Lynn, Phyllis Hyman, Tammy Terrell, Phoebe Snow, Regina Belle, Evelyn Champagne King, Chante Moore and so many more, you should have had a Top 20,
I thought Mary J Blige was the Queen of R&B and Aretha Franklin the Queen of Soul. Looks like Watch Mojo loves placing Aretha at number 1 in every female singer category.
Mariah Carey should be in number one because she invented the melismatic style of singing and after vision of love, everyone follows her style. It should be really Mariah.
In this 2 of my 5 Queens made the top 10 Chaka and Diana while Tina get a different list and Pattie and Gladys get honorable mention. Of my 5 Icons Mary J, Mariah, Janet, Whitney do make the list but Teena Maria don't even get a honorable mention and for my 5 idols Alicia Keys make the top 10 while Toni get a honorable mention but no word on Aaliyah Brandy Monica . I'm a fan of a lot of other female R&B singers but these are my Queens my Icon and my Idols these women shaped my musical taste growing up.
Aretha Franklin is the only female Artist that can be deemed #1 over Whitney without my debate. Where is Anita Baker? Tamia? Deborah Cox? Now THAT'S R&B.
My list 1. Mary J Blidge 2. Toni Braxton 3.Alicia keys 4.brandy( not a fan but she's trurle r&b) 5.aaliyah 6. Monica 7.kiesha Cole I'm running out of people , but Janet was r&b with anytime anyplace and whitney with my love is your love album , but they went to so many other genres so not including them. Whitney is my favorite singer of all time BTW male ,female , past, present , future . I mean I'm looking for people who made a impact to r&b . I'm mostly naming 90's cause that's what I think of when I hear "r&b". Amerie and Ashanti both had r&b stuff . Beyonce she stared r&b but went to alot of genres . Mariah? ... just no . I guess Lauren hill and Erika Bahdu but that's more neo soul . I consider it a different genres.
You're kidding right Mariah Yesss!!! You probably haven't even listened to what she contributed to R&B she's known for her great R&B songs and contributions!! She does many other genres but she's the queen of vocals when she gave us fantasy honey etc (you don't remember, if only you knew) she's urban R&B yes but as well just R&B.
Bruh Bruh I forgot some songs, shake it off, honey ft mase, heartbreaker ft da brat and missy, hero, vision of love, lead the way, if it's over. anything from butterfly to anything recently
Someone to call me lover, Janet Jackson, was my go to song to cheer myself up riding around with the wind in my hair. Still a classic one to me. She deserved higher on the list, I bought alot of her CDs, she was the best. c;
My favourite school project was when we had to choose who we thought was one of the most influential artists, and I chose to do Aretha Franklin, it was a great project
Crystal-Adair Farmer correct me if i am wrong but is it because Aaliyah didn't have as many songs made. i only remember 2 of her songs. i cud b wrong..
Top 10…1. Aretha Franklin 2. Whitney Houston 3.Lauryn Hill 4. Janet Jackson 5. Chaka Khan 6. Mariah Carey 7. Mary J Blige 8. Anita Baker 9. Diana Ross 10. Beyoncé

Motown is not not genre....they're both associated with R&B. What do you think Aretha, and Diana were singing? I do agree with the Whitney bit though...
Whitney won Number 1 R&B album, Number 1 R&B album artist, Number 1 R&B artist, and Number 1 R&B artist of 1991 all in 1991. Then you say she's not R&B? HAHA
Lennart Klingsbigl Everything pertaining to "Top 10 Singers", she's never in the Top 5 spots. I've watched about 5 different videos where the highest she's been was #7. SEVEN!!!! Why yal let Brandy go so underrated ? Like she hasn't sold multiple albums ? Like she never gave us Moesha ? Like she wasn't the first black Cinderalla ?
Just like Minnie Ripperton, Aaliyah didn't have a big enough catalog of music to a strong enough impact to be on the list. Did you notice everyone on that list had at least 10 albums released.
@@anthonycoleman9593 regardless of how many albums Aaliyah has released it'd be ridiculous to say she doesn't have an impact on r&b music since she was the main artist who reinvented the sound of it and she's one of the most influential artist for r&b artist of today
@@idona3745 , Two things here. First of all I said, " she didn't have a strong enough impact, I didn't say she didn't have any. Secondly, she didn't reinvent that style, her song writters and producers, (particularly Timbaland & Missy) did, and you can here in other artists music as well, of that time era. She was somewhat influential, but not enough to make the list.
This list is surprisingly accurate idk what u guys are talking about the only one I can say that should be here is Aaliyah at least an honorable mention over Lauryn Hill (I look at her as a rapper) other than that this list is perfect 💯💯💯
This list is all wrong those more established should be near the top. Beyoncé should be lower on the list. She doesn’t have the pipes as the other women on this list who gives a person goosebumps when they sing. Toni Braxton, Gladys Knight, Mini Ripperton and Phyllis Hyman should be listed honorable mention is disrespectful to the R&B genre. Do more research before doing these lists.
pcFOREVER89100 her first successful single was an R&B song that crossed over and MLIYL is an r&b/hip hop album. IYBT has a more r&b feel to it than her first two albums. But I think she was pop, r&b, soul, and gospel.
Being important in Pop market doesn't mean they ain't R&B, all the time you can see rock bands, country singers, R&B and Hip Hop artists in Pop charts but it doesn't mean they are pop, Rihanna is definitely Pop, but Whitney, Mariah and Janet are R&B, her music and her style is R&B
Beyoncé's first two albums along with 4 were mainly R&B. I Am Sasha Fierce was urban pop, Lemonade and Self Titled are a mix of both R&B and urban pop. Most of the women you mentioned are a mix of R&B and urban pop. Rihanna is the only one that I don't consider an R&B singer and is straight up an urban pop artist.
Before watching 10. Rihanna 9. Toni Braxton 8. Beyoncé 7. Aaliyah 6. Mary J. Blige 5. Etta James 4 Janet Jackson 3. Mariah Carey 2. Whitney Houston 1. Aretha Franklin Honourable Mentions Fantasia Chaka Khan Alicia Keys Diana Ross Patti LaBelle Eryka Badu
*Mariah's* definitely the Queen of RnB (they mainly don't give her the title because she is multiracial & not Black) *Whitney Houston* is The Voice (Legendary Ballads but not very R&B) *Aretha* is the Queen of Soul 👑
I would say whitney and Mariah are the same because they both have some of the biggest ballads and pop song in the world. But don't forget Whitney also had some R&b in the 80s and with MLIYL AND Just Whitney. B7t they both did and do r&b.
Top 10 Female R&B Singers: 1. Whitney Houston 2. Janet Jackson 3. Mariah Carey 4. Diana Ross 5. Etta James 6. Mary J. Blige 7. Aaliyah You guys decide 8 - 10 because I can’t.

Brandy was great but became irrelevant after the car accident-not hating, just saying the truth.
Janet Jackson should have been higher on this list. A lot of artist of today have been influence by her.

RnB is a genre that is overflowing with talent. And that's only referring to the female half. This list must have been so hard to make.
I Agree rugrats Dobie Wan Kanobie ❤ much love All
Where's Toni and Lauryn?? oh nooo :(
👏👏👏👏
This list is all wrong those more established should be near the top. Beyoncé should be lower on the list. She doesn’t have the pipes as the other women on this list who gives a person goosebumps when they sing. Toni Braxton, Gladys Knight, Mini Ripperton and Phyllis Hyman should be listed honorable mention is disrespectful to the R&B genre. Do more research before doing these lists.
I agree with you
You sound dumb Beyoncé would blow everybody on this list
The fact they put Aaliyah at the beginning but not in the damn ranking makes me mad
Top 5
#5. Beyonce 👑
#4. Diana Ross 👑👑
#3. Mariah Carey 👑👑👑
#2. Whitney Houston 👑👑👑👑
#1. Aretha Franklin 👑👑👑👑👑
No Teena Marie..Sade..Anita Baker..Randy Crawford are you freaking crazy
Great list! I'm sad that J-Hud and Aaliyah weren't even listed as honorable mentions though :(
Happy Mothers Day 2022 from the UK ❤💝💖🇬🇧
Replace Alicia Keys with Patti Labelle and this list is pretty strong
5. Alicia Keys
4. Janet
3. Beyoncé
2. Mariah
1. Whitney
Most of these artists aren't R&B. They're urban pop ie. Mariah, Beyonce, Whitney, Janet, and Rihanna.
um Mariah Whitney and Janet are r&b. ther radio singles may be pop but their albums are all r&b.
pcFOREVER89100 her first successful single was an R&B song that crossed over and MLIYL is an r&b/hip hop album.
Rihanna and Beyone maybe urban pop , but Whitney Mariah an Janet are RnB
Beyoncé's first two albums along with 4 were mainly R&B. I Am Sasha Fierce was urban pop, Lemonade and Self Titled are a mix of both R&B and urban pop.
Most of the women you mentioned are a mix of R&B and urban pop. Rihanna is the only one that I don't consider an R&B singer and is straight up an urban pop artist.
mariah Carey sould be the number one !!!
true
Kierra Barrings Yes she should, she is better than Whitney and Aretha is the Queen of Soul
Starmie TV...NO, no, no,no. Furthermore she rather more "pop" than "r&b"
she's not black
Jay More ummmmm yeah she is half black. Where you been at?
Before watching
10. Rihanna
9. Toni Braxton
8. Beyoncé
7. Aaliyah
6. Mary J. Blige
5. Etta James
4 Janet Jackson
3. Mariah Carey
2. Whitney Houston
1. Aretha Franklin
Honourable Mentions
Fantasia
Chaka Khan
Alicia Keys
Diana Ross
Patti LaBelle
Eryka Badu
Diana Ross & Rihanna are Pop, not R&B.
+HAHA HAHA lol R&B is a genre just like pop, soul and excetera and btw they sanged r&b too
+HAHA HAHA a singer can sing as many genres as they want but only if their voice can fit into it.
Rihanna is a pop singer, the only time she is ever R&B is when it is in trend, not because shes an artist of the genre
+Jordan Williams search her up pls.
I'm really happy with the list but sad Jennifer Hudson didn't make it, but she's on my list of R&B
BEYONCÈ AND JANET JACKSON 😍😍😍😍😍😍
THANKS FOR THE KEYS WITH ALICIA
Even tho Aaliyah wasn’t on this list I’ll say she’s at least top 20!❤️
That transition between 8 and 7 was kinda dope lol
Have we forgotten about a little nugget called Teena Marie. RIP
Yep
I'm glad Janet is on this list she is one of the greatest of all time
*Mariah's* definitely the Queen of RnB (they mainly don't give her the title because she is multiracial & not Black)
*Whitney Houston* is The Voice (Legendary Ballads but not very R&B)
*Aretha* is the Queen of Soul 👑
Mariah Carey isn't the queen of Rnb . nEvEr .
I would say whitney and Mariah are the same because they both have some of the biggest ballads and pop song in the world. But don't forget Whitney also had some R&b in the 80s and with MLIYL AND Just Whitney. B7t they both did and do r&b.
💯💯💯
No Mariah music has a lot of Pop too that's why
Ok Miriah has to be number 1!!! If she isn’t I will be mad!
I really wish RnB would male a come back.
I like the list
Whitney and Mariah are the best of the best!!!!
WTF how is Toni Braxton not on the list it should be her and mary j eithier number 1 or 2..... again you guys got this wrong :(
Janet should be higher, Janet is Queen.
BEYONCE 👏 JANET JACKSON 👏 MJB 👏 CHAKA KHAN 👏
Mariah is the living, the greatest/best singer of all time and the Queen of all singers

Teena Marie, Phyllis Hyman, Monica Lauryn Hill . Looks like you need another top 10 🤔
I agree with this
Why is Alicia Keys higher than Mary J and Chaka Khan. I love her but really.
