Can diabetic retinopathy lead to blindness? My grandmother has this, she was recently diagnosed with this. I am very cautious about her health, especially eye health.
I want to give you this information about dry eyes, I had a terrible dry eyes and it turned out it was because I wash my face and take bath too much now only take bath once a week and i try to not wash my eyes too often but I also make sure there is no wax on my eye
I've been diabetic for 40+ years. I had avoided going to the eye doctor for about 5 years. Both my parents died in 2012. Mom and I had gone to the eye doctor together for years. When I finally went my eyes were a mess. One of my retinas was being pulled and nearly detached. Also my lens were changed like you described. My vision was so poor. After a few treatments and getting myself out of my grieving pity party, I have much of my vision back. My central vision isn't great but I have learned how to make the most of it. Eye health is so important, and especially so if you diabetes or other major health problems.
Quick question... I was diagnosed with Vertigo a few years ago most likely cause of an accident I had from falling and causing a concussion... I felt like about 2yrs ago my vision got weird, like vibration in image of certain lines or I noticed in text at night or trees as if the image was moving but I describe it more as the image is vibrating fast... I told the eye doctor but she said it's normal which I don't think it is because also 2 yrs ago I noticed my ear started this buzzing sound and I read online and it might be titanus which can lead to deafness which I hope it doesn't cause that's scary as hell... I also see these floaters... Oh my question lol sorry I wrote a lot...do u think it's normal? I will most likely see another eye doctor cause I feel like I ignired it way too long

This was so hard for me to watch. I went through this a few years back. I'm 35 and I've had diabetes for 30 years. My diabetes was completely out of control for a few years in my late teens/early 20s. It was years before I experienced any symptoms. I started to notice blurred vision and soon after I experienced hemorrhages. Very severe and often. I had so much bleeding in the eye, the blood completely blocked my vision. I went through months and months of PRP laser treatments and injections to the eye. My peripheral vision was completely killed off in order to stop the requirement of blood to the eye and keep my centralized vision. Eventually, I had retinal detachment in both of my eyes and had surgery to remove the blood from the vitreous gel and to have my retinas welded back down. Was completely blind (only seeing movement and light/dark changes. I am grateful to have the vision I do now. I am able to live a normal life and have adjusted to not having any peripheral vision in either eye. The scarring also causes something like "blind spots" in my vision that makes it hard to read small print and focus in on detail. My diabetes is in great control now with an A1c of 6.4 and trending down but my eyesight changes were a long and life altering journey. Thank you for this video. I wish I had been better educated when I was younger, I wish I had been exposed to the serious complications of diabetes. But, I have gotten a second chance and this (along with a few other events) really was a wake up call for me to change my lifestyle and really understand the seriousness of diabetes and its complications.
I'm going through the same stuff now. Got diagnosed 4 years ago and didn't take it seriously and now my eyes are bleeding and I've got dark and white spots and flashing lights whenever I blink. I'm so scared that I've ruined my entire life. I've booked to see an eye doctor in 2 days, hopefully they can see what's happening and potentially help me. I don't want to go blind at such a young age. I'm sorry you went through that and I'm really glad you're doing better now. How long until after the surgery did you get your vision back? That must've been a huge wake up call and very scary :(
@@Jordan-ub7mn21 and showed signs of maculpathy meaning changes to my blood vessels. Only 21 and I'll probs lose my vision I feel depressed stressed and scared. Glucose is under better control going gym but idk if it's to late unfortunately
I was diagnosed with diabetes 2 on February 2023 before that I was having problems with my right eyes vision, I lost 70 percent of the vision on that eye. I went to an eye doctor in Brooklyn and he injected something in my eye and the next day I was seeing better. For the next 5 months he kept injecting my eye and for the last 2 months my eye and blood sugar keeps getting better. Thanks to the libre 2 sensors I managed to keep my blood sugar low . My eyes used to be in pains when ever blood sugar went over 120 now I don’t feel any pains on my eyes no more. I’m eating vegetables all the time .
I found out I was diabetic in October of 2016 when I got an infection in my big toe. Prior to that, starting around 2014, my vision would get blurry. But since it was happening in the colder months and I worked outside, I figured it was just dry eyes. Then I noticed a black spot (not a floater) just above the center of my vision field. I checked online and figured it to be an edema. It eventually went away. Months later (in 2017) my vision was getting blurry in all weather conditions. I went to my eye doctor and he started giving me injections in the eye to reduce swelling. Every month for around 6 months. Then, when the swelling was down to his satisfaction, he did a laser treatment. He never told me this was his objective when giving the injections. So after he zapped me in 6 or 7 areas of the eye, I started to develop spots. They looked like floaters. Black with a white halo around them. But they weren't floating and they were clustered together. Making them hard to count, but I counted 9-12 at times. The worst part is, they shimmer and in different lighting conditions, I notice them more. He said they were lipid deposits and would go away. I still have a couple but now I also have a distortion in the center part of my vision. It's usually grey. Sometimes almost clear. It's like looking through a murky water droplet. But when it's grey, it's basically a cloud and blocks objects from my view unless they are closer to me and therefore bigger than the "cloud". I believe this is a result of the laser but he says it's the diabetes. He didn't warn me about any side effects of the laser either before or after he did the procedure. I didn't think to ask. I went in there trusting modern technology. I feel it was a result of the laser because this is happening in the eye he worked on. My other eye is fine (even though it's been legally blind since I was a kid), so why would diabetes only affect that one eye he worked on with a laser??? Of course, none of the other doctors in his practice will admit to any wrongdoing on his part.
I had 3 injections already, the first time I did not see the black floater but the second and third time I did see a black spot in my eyes but they disappeared the next day . Now after 4 months I’m having Blair vision and burning eyes and face several times a day . The fourth month the doctor did not inject me and he told me he gonna wait one month to see how everything. I think he did that because I told him I was having burning eyes and Blair vision. I think he know something is going on but he didn’t tell me instead he didn’t inject me. I think I’m gonna lose my right eye vision.
@@elpilonvideo The injections will blur the vision for a few hours. The spots I saw were after he used a laser to seal the leaking blood vessels. If your doctor wants to use a laser, ask if there is a different treatment available. Maybe eyedrops. It might work slower or not be as effective, but at least you won't have flashing spots in your vision.
@@JoeR203 okay, I’m not going back for my fourth injection. Before the third injection my right eye vision was almost the same as my left eye , now I’m feeling this burning sensation on my face and eyes several times a day. Now I have to check my blood sugar 4 to 5 times a day because low blood sugar and the burning sensation feel the same so I don’t know when my blood sugar is low.
That’s how I was diagnosed with diabetes.was having eye problems, my eye Dr picked it up my fasting blood sugar was never high when I went for bloodwork
I was recently diagnosed as Pre-Diabetes I'd been holding steady just under the line for a couple years, and it finally pushed over. Working to get the blood sugar down, but it is encouraging that we have this much insight. Last year when I got my eye exam done for new glasses, the doctor was concerned I had this weird anomaly in my eye. I described it as kinda like if you had a tiny spec of water on a window. It was always in the same spot (did not float around) and was causing a weird distortion, but was only really an issue when trying to read fine print (so was messing up the eye exam trying to read the letters, I could see the letters clearly, but only from the peripheral vision, so had trouble identifying them). that initial doc said he could see something on my retina, and sent me to a specialist. in the next year, I saw THREE different specialists who couldn't see anything. (was good to see them anyway, cause I ended up with lattice degeneration showing up at the same time so got it fixed)
I'm diabetic and have had retinal hemorrhages in my right eye. In my case I went from normal vision in my right eye to complete vision loss overnight. Basically the eye fills up with blood in just a few hours. This has happened twice even after my blood sugar was under control, probably because the abnormal blood vessels had been there for a while. Fortunately if treated promptly and properly retinal hemorrhages don't appear to do any long term damage to the retina. I've also had a retinal detachment in the same eye but it was caught early and repaired. It's important to deal with both the diabetes and the other related problems with the retina while those issues are still confined to the peripheral retina. If you wait until they spread into the central macular region then you can end up with severe and permanent vision loss. Even after all the problems I've had with the right retina and after the eye needed cataract surgery I'm currently at 20/25 in that eye. In my experience the eye is a very resilient organ but like anything else there is a limit to how much abuse you can throw at it.
May I asked what retina doctor you see? I same thing happened to me yesterday, my eye doctor refuses to inject me with a eye shot (eyelea) but he said is too risky, he told me to wait for the blood to clear it self first and he will see
@@luisrios1224 I live in southern New Hampshire and I go to Mass Eye and Ear in Boston. All the retinal surgeons there are pretty good. Read the other answer I sent you. If you have a hemorrhage like mine it explains your options. You can either just wait and see if it clears up on its own or you can have eye surgery. I've had those injections myself. They help with macular edema from diabetes. But I don't know if they will fix a retinal hemorrhage.
@@luisrios1224 I also had a similar problem. The blood covered my vision completely.... I too am treated at MEEI. They had me wait for the body to absorb the blood. Then I had laser surgery to repair the vessel. Better to have a doctor take a conservative approach.
Another great video! The timing of this video release, as I have just finished training to capture fundus photos in our clinic. The majority of our patients are diabetic, and being able to see the retina and other eye anatomy has been so interesting. And because the majority of our patients are Spanish speaking, and me being able to speak Spanish, I've had the opportunity to be in the room with our optometrists and patients going over the photos and explaining how to take better care of their overall health
Many years ago my wife had gestational diabetes and for a few years took medication. She was able to stop the medication years ago. However, in the last 6 months she had double vision for a couple of months, but now is mostly okay (she doesn't wear her pirate patch anymore). Then she had the cloudiness you describe in this video. She has had MRI, VRI, and a couple of other scans. Nothing other than diabetes has been found. It is scary, but she seems to be doing okay at the moment. We watched this video together. Thank you for the information.
Great information, i lost my vision back in september due to undiagnosed diabetes, recently just regain my vision after cataract surgery on both eyes, diabetes affects so many things, always get checked by doctors, amazing information!

Whenever my power increases. I become really stressful. I really wish there was a natural way to fix my eyes. I am only at a young age. But am afraid to be blind and not being able to chase my dreams
Exactly the same here, but from some intense googling I have realized 99.9% of stuff now a days can be treated fairly simply, rule of thumb for me is if I were to notice any very very obvious changes in my vision get it checked out. It will be able to be treated. So don’t stress out too much cuz it makes me feel super awful
Hi Dr. Allen, I was diagnosed with diabetes 2 several months ago. I recently started getting flashes more and more. I saw my retinal specialist and he didn't see anything diabetes related, but he did send me off to a lab to be tested for Sickle Cell disease!! I don't have a history of the disease, but my oldest daughter has the trait. My late husband figured it came from my side of the family, but at that time, we didn't check. Now my dad's deceased, so I'm going to ask my mom to be tested. Have you ever seen a patient and suspected Sickle Cell?

Just had my eye exam. Will have floaters removed from my left eye. That is the one that had a retina tear repaired 9 years ago. Then have cataract surgery in 3 months. Will get new eye glass prescriptions in a couple of weeks too. Luck my hypoglycemia has not become diabetes. Have watched my diet and exercise since my diagnosis in 1986. There is no medication for hypoglycemia. I am fortunate to keep diabetes at bay since my grandmother died in a diabetic coma at 48 years of age. Thanks for the information. My husband suffers with type 2 diabetes but he’s been in denial for the past 5 years he still eats normal food and eats lots of chocolate/sweets cakes etc even sometimes doesn’t take his medication he’s got an appointment with the eye hospital and can’t be bothered to attend it as too busy he says. We try to tell him to change his habits before something happens but he won’t listen to me or anyone he doesn’t want to realise just how dangerous this disease is
My mom is the same way. She is 66 has been diabetic for over 20 years but has only started taking her meds regularly for 2 years. She started seeing HUGE floaters last year and it turned out her last eye exam was April 2012. When she finally went last year, it turns out she has diabetic retinopathy, optic nerve thinning and dense cataracts in both eyes which were exacerbated by uncontrolled diabetes and high blood pressure.The Ophthalmologist said she hasn’t seen hemorrhaging that bad in years! My mom is still in denial that her diabetes impacted her eyes so much but with major diet changes, my mom’s A1C dropped from 9.1 to 5.1, unfortunately the damages are irreversible but she can prevent it from worsening. It’s amazing how much an eye doctor can see about one’s health just from an eye exam.
Ask him to imagine either waking up in the middle of the night or not being able to go to sleep at all because his feet feel like they are on fire. Ask him if he wants to wake up every few hours to go to the bathroom. Ask him if he wants you to go out and find a boyfriend because he can't satisfy you anymore. Ask him if he wants to experience excruciating pain during a heart attack. Ask him if he wants to end up fully conscious but unable to move or talk after he's had a stroke. Then finally ask him if he wants to end up blind and have a seeing eye dog as his only companion because you left him for your boyfriend who cares enough about you to take care of himself. Sir I have dry eye and entopic phenomenon which I got in 2021. I am using dry eye drops for nearly 10 months , doc said to stop this June but still my eyes become dry and I am just a high-school student.
Back again because somehow my vision is getting rapidly worse. So is my heart, kidney, and liver pain though. My right pupil is massive and has been. I lost the color in my eyes from a brilliant blue with green in the middle to literally completely grey. I have no bloody idea what that means. That happened in the course of a year a couple years back…everything that has been happening now though? While I was in the hospital they had me on a lot of Metformin and I quit it cold turkey. That scares me. I wish I could speak to anyone…
I only recently found out that i have most likely been diabetic for more than two years. That is when my health deteriorated. I never went to a doctor because I was always working and taking care of kids. I am finally on some insulin, but my vision has not cleared up at all. It's horrible, my vision was perfect before.

I know you have covered cornea issues, but I have an issue that is common with those that have had facial palsy. I am unable to produce tears in my bad eye plus unable to close that eyelid. I have a gold eyelid weight, but it is not doing enough to protect my cornea. At night I put gel and use moisture chambers for keeping the eye lubricated. But after 3 years, that has not helped as much as the doctor would like. Is there any way to repair the cornea, or to make the eye start producting tears? Thank you for all you do!!!
Hey, could you make a video about ocular dominance? Like how are left handed or right handed and how it’s similar to our eyes? I’ve always seemed to be able to see slightly brighter and clearer with my right eye compared to my left. It used to really worry me because I thought something was happening to my left eye, but it turned out to be normal to have one eye that’s a little better than the other assuming you have no underlying health condition.
Best to talk with a local dietitian and your medical doctor about lifestyle changes to help reverse or prevent diabetes. Exercise and diet are often the key to weight loss which can reduce the risk of diabetes and it progressing.
I've kept my average blood sugar normal for the past few years, yet still have retinopathy. Last A1Cs have been 5.5, 5.0, 5.2, and 5.2. So fellow diabetics, don't think just, because you're managing things well means you're immune to eye problems.
I have been a type 2 for a long time, and my last eye exam indicated that I am showing some signs of retinopathy, my blood sugar has been under 7.0 for many years, just being a diabetic for a long time puts stress on the eyes.

For one month while my diabetes was untreated I could see so much better that my eyeglasses were useless now that my blood sugar is better my sight is blurry again so my glasses work again I'm unsure of when to go back as my sight has dramatically changed in the last six months and not in the usual ways
What about broken blood vessels near the surface of the eye? I have one in my left eye that sometimes breaks and pools blood behind the conjunctiva. People, don't tell me to go to the doctor. I'm already trying to get my medical dr to refer me to an eye dr. But I'm trying to learn what I can about it in the meantime.
I am not sure what to say, flashing can occur for many reasons and unfortunately some of them can be an ocular emergency. Even if you don't have health insurance, perhaps you can find an eye care professional who can examine your eyes and let you know what is going on. With new vision changes, I think it is always better to have it looked at sooner rather than later.
I have had type 2 diabetes for a bit over 7 years. About 2 years ago I got this huge black floater in my left eye and couldn't see anything so I made an appointment to see my eyedoctor..it's a yearly thing since I was diagnosed with diabetes at age 52. Just before getting the huge black floater I have a slew of small tiny floaters and I got those golden flashes on the peripheral of both eyes. I just chucked it up from playing too many video games on my computer!!! Anyways..I was checked for retinal detachment and possible retinal tare. My eyedoctor did find I had developed cataracts in both eyes..left side more pronounced that other eye but no need for surgery just yet. At last eye doctor visit I had pink eye..and recently constant red eyes but not bloodshot looking...but i have lots wrong with me now cos i got hit with everything basically...first the huge eye floater, then an ulcerate small cut under my foot that had to be tended too so it woulded get gangrene and have to get it amputated. Then I got a csf cranial leak in april...then by summer I developed diabetic gastroparesis...by Sept had a second major stroke..and then in Nov was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer. The red eyes..not the bloodshot kind and not pinkeye kind has also become my new norm after my bone cancer spread like crazy..all thruout my whole body...hands/wrists..feet and ankles... and including upper spine/left upper shoulderblade and back of neck... and now in my lungs too. Never had any of these red eye, pinkeye issues before...just the odd annoying eye style mostly. What would cause my all over eyeballs red eye issue? .. weird thought...can the bone cancer do that? Heck I'm only 59 right now...but heck diabetes causes a lot of weird happenings...but i bet so can my cancer too..in a very weird way! Input please..thanks. Oh btw...blurry vision and black webby floaters are now my constant norm since the past 2 years as well...when my sugars are very high...say 13 mols/l ... blurriness and black webby floaters become super nasty and severe vision wise. Most times now I can no longer see out of left eye at all anymore...it's the one with the more advanced cataract btw...half of eyeball has the shaded veil on the bottom half from halfway downwards. Anyways...

hello dude im a really big fan of yout youtube vidsoa ive watched loads of them great information thanks i was wondering if ytou ocould help me i have been suffering with eye strain and dry eyes about two months ago it has cleared up now and got alot better however my focus has not got better i am reallly strrugginling with tryin to concentrate on things focus on things small points also moving things like scrolling up or down on screens really triiggers it. my when i try to focus my eyes they can shake and go blurely also same thing happens when tryin too read. iahve been to the opticians have two diffrent eye test at two diffrent optians both coming back fine no problems eye health is fine and perscritption is correct. they gaver me the pencil to nose excerise to do which has helped with the eyes shakking but has not helped with the focusiing problems iv been having i was wondering if you can reccomend any execercise for focings muscles of eyee as i cxcannot find anything for this. please if you could reccomend anything it would really help as i am not getting much help and its really effecting my eyes.. main problesm foccing eye oneye trying to focus on multiple things at once or small things. moving things definte triigers are scollling up or down esepcially fast i feel like this could of caused it prolonged scrolling. eyes then become blurely and really struglle to focus on sthings reading and if icontinue to push it eyes get straiinned and painfull pleaseee can you help me give me any advice or excerices
Well yes, and that is only for "clinical" signs (we know there is damage being done before we can detect it with a standard examination), but sadly many people go undiagnosed with diabetes (not to mention pre-diabetes and insulin resistance for many many years before it is caught). I frequently catch diabetic retinopathy during eye exams in patients who had never been diagnosed with diabetes before.
Eye floaters don't get into the anterior chamber. Rarely, the vitreous can wick into the anterior chamber after complicated surgeries, but it would not cause eye floaters to remain there. People can develop anterior chamber cells and pigment, however. Which may contribute to corneal swelling and a hazy medium.
@@DoctorEyeHealth ohhh cause someone from eye group says that after he reversing myopia after two years and start developing floaters at the start of the exercise, he gets his floaters fading by palming his eyes and he says the floaters in viterous chamber doesnt make sense, he belive that floaters is in anterior chamber and cause due to cyliary body being strained

To my knowledge at nighttime, if there is no UV light for the photochromic lens to change, all photochromic lenses should be very clear. The extractive lenses out now may slightly change due to artificial light.
Hello. If I wear daily lenses and one of them falls down as i’m trying to put it in my eye, am i able to use contact solution for rinse it off or can contact solution only be used to rinse off monthly contacts?
Why do I see white dots in my vision after waking up in morning as I blink for few seconds to a minute. This happens with me sometimes. What is it? I have checked my eyes 8 months ago for my eye floaters but that that I didn't had white dots but I had blue and yellow dots that time after waking up looking at celing. Doctor told it's nothing just ignore. But now I'm getting white dots
This is a great question. I too see colorful dots in the early mornings. Some people do see a similar sparkles or dots after standing up too fast, which is due to blood flow. But I think the early morning spots I personally experience may be due to neurological signals within the visual cortex of the brain. Because In a dark room or with my eyes closed I can still see the dots or shapes, which if they were true eye floaters, I wouldn’t see them in a dark room, this tells me it’s unlikely to be eye related and more neurological. Ever seen my video on visual snow.

I want to give you this information about dry eyes, I had a terrible dry eyes and it turned out it was because I wash my face and take bath too much now only take bath once a week and i try to not wash my eyes too often but I also make sure there is no wax on my eye
I've been diabetic for 40+ years. I had avoided going to the eye doctor for about 5 years. Both my parents died in 2012. Mom and I had gone to the eye doctor together for years. When I finally went my eyes were a mess. One of my retinas was being pulled and nearly detached. Also my lens were changed like you described. My vision was so poor. After a few treatments and getting myself out of my grieving pity party, I have much of my vision back. My central vision isn't great but I have learned how to make the most of it. Eye health is so important, and especially so if you diabetes or other major health problems.
Quick question... I was diagnosed with Vertigo a few years ago most likely cause of an accident I had from falling and causing a concussion... I felt like about 2yrs ago my vision got weird, like vibration in image of certain lines or I noticed in text at night or trees as if the image was moving but I describe it more as the image is vibrating fast... I told the eye doctor but she said it's normal which I don't think it is because also 2 yrs ago I noticed my ear started this buzzing sound and I read online and it might be titanus which can lead to deafness which I hope it doesn't cause that's scary as hell... I also see these floaters... Oh my question lol sorry I wrote a lot...do u think it's normal? I will most likely see another eye doctor cause I feel like I ignired it way too long

hi. my mom is recently diagnosed with pre diabities and I am really worried. you said you have been diabetic for 40 years, can I ask you how old are you?and how you managed to stay healthy?
This was so hard for me to watch. I went through this a few years back. I'm 35 and I've had diabetes for 30 years. My diabetes was completely out of control for a few years in my late teens/early 20s. It was years before I experienced any symptoms. I started to notice blurred vision and soon after I experienced hemorrhages. Very severe and often. I had so much bleeding in the eye, the blood completely blocked my vision. I went through months and months of PRP laser treatments and injections to the eye. My peripheral vision was completely killed off in order to stop the requirement of blood to the eye and keep my centralized vision. Eventually, I had retinal detachment in both of my eyes and had surgery to remove the blood from the vitreous gel and to have my retinas welded back down. Was completely blind (only seeing movement and light/dark changes. I am grateful to have the vision I do now. I am able to live a normal life and have adjusted to not having any peripheral vision in either eye. The scarring also causes something like "blind spots" in my vision that makes it hard to read small print and focus in on detail. My diabetes is in great control now with an A1c of 6.4 and trending down but my eyesight changes were a long and life altering journey.
Thank you for this video. I wish I had been better educated when I was younger, I wish I had been exposed to the serious complications of diabetes. But, I have gotten a second chance and this (along with a few other events) really was a wake up call for me to change my lifestyle and really understand the seriousness of diabetes and its complications.
I'm going through the same stuff now. Got diagnosed 4 years ago and didn't take it seriously and now my eyes are bleeding and I've got dark and white spots and flashing lights whenever I blink. I'm so scared that I've ruined my entire life. I've booked to see an eye doctor in 2 days, hopefully they can see what's happening and potentially help me. I don't want to go blind at such a young age. I'm sorry you went through that and I'm really glad you're doing better now. How long until after the surgery did you get your vision back? That must've been a huge wake up call and very scary :(

I was diagnosed with diabetes 2 on February 2023 before that I was having problems with my right eyes vision, I lost 70 percent of the vision on that eye.
I went to an eye doctor in Brooklyn and he injected something in my eye and the next day I was seeing better.
For the next 5 months he kept injecting my eye and for the last 2 months my eye and blood sugar keeps getting better.
Thanks to the libre 2 sensors I managed to keep my blood sugar low .
My eyes used to be in pains when ever blood sugar went over 120 now I don’t feel any pains on my eyes no more. I’m eating vegetables all the time .
I found out I was diabetic in October of 2016 when I got an infection in my big toe. Prior to that, starting around 2014, my vision would get blurry. But since it was happening in the colder months and I worked outside, I figured it was just dry eyes. Then I noticed a black spot (not a floater) just above the center of my vision field. I checked online and figured it to be an edema. It eventually went away. Months later (in 2017) my vision was getting blurry in all weather conditions.
I went to my eye doctor and he started giving me injections in the eye to reduce swelling. Every month for around 6 months. Then, when the swelling was down to his satisfaction, he did a laser treatment. He never told me this was his objective when giving the injections. So after he zapped me in 6 or 7 areas of the eye, I started to develop spots. They looked like floaters. Black with a white halo around them. But they weren't floating and they were clustered together. Making them hard to count, but I counted 9-12 at times. The worst part is, they shimmer and in different lighting conditions, I notice them more.
He said they were lipid deposits and would go away. I still have a couple but now I also have a distortion in the center part of my vision. It's usually grey. Sometimes almost clear. It's like looking through a murky water droplet. But when it's grey, it's basically a cloud and blocks objects from my view unless they are closer to me and therefore bigger than the "cloud". I believe this is a result of the laser but he says it's the diabetes. He didn't warn me about any side effects of the laser either before or after he did the procedure. I didn't think to ask. I went in there trusting modern technology. I feel it was a result of the laser because this is happening in the eye he worked on. My other eye is fine (even though it's been legally blind since I was a kid), so why would diabetes only affect that one eye he worked on with a laser??? Of course, none of the other doctors in his practice will admit to any wrongdoing on his part.
I had 3 injections already, the first time I did not see the black floater but the second and third time I did see a black spot in my eyes but they disappeared the next day . Now after 4 months I’m having Blair vision and burning eyes and face several times a day . The fourth month the doctor did not inject me and he told me he gonna wait one month to see how everything. I think he did that because I told him I was having burning eyes and Blair vision.
I think he know something is going on but he didn’t tell me instead he didn’t inject me.
I think I’m gonna lose my right eye vision.
@@elpilonvideo The injections will blur the vision for a few hours. The spots I saw were after he used a laser to seal the leaking blood vessels. If your doctor wants to use a laser, ask if there is a different treatment available. Maybe eyedrops. It might work slower or not be as effective, but at least you won't have flashing spots in your vision.

Before the third injection my right eye vision was almost the same as my left eye , now I’m feeling this burning sensation on my face and eyes several times a day.
Now I have to check my blood sugar 4 to 5 times a day because low blood sugar and the burning sensation feel the same so I don’t know when my blood sugar is low.

I was recently diagnosed as Pre-Diabetes I'd been holding steady just under the line for a couple years, and it finally pushed over. Working to get the blood sugar down, but it is encouraging that we have this much insight.
Last year when I got my eye exam done for new glasses, the doctor was concerned I had this weird anomaly in my eye. I described it as kinda like if you had a tiny spec of water on a window. It was always in the same spot (did not float around) and was causing a weird distortion, but was only really an issue when trying to read fine print (so was messing up the eye exam trying to read the letters, I could see the letters clearly, but only from the peripheral vision, so had trouble identifying them). that initial doc said he could see something on my retina, and sent me to a specialist. in the next year, I saw THREE different specialists who couldn't see anything. (was good to see them anyway, cause I ended up with lattice degeneration showing up at the same time so got it fixed)

I'm diabetic and have had retinal hemorrhages in my right eye. In my case I went from normal vision in my right eye to complete vision loss overnight. Basically the eye fills up with blood in just a few hours. This has happened twice even after my blood sugar was under control, probably because the abnormal blood vessels had been there for a while. Fortunately if treated promptly and properly retinal hemorrhages don't appear to do any long term damage to the retina. I've also had a retinal detachment in the same eye but it was caught early and repaired. It's important to deal with both the diabetes and the other related problems with the retina while those issues are still confined to the peripheral retina. If you wait until they spread into the central macular region then you can end up with severe and permanent vision loss. Even after all the problems I've had with the right retina and after the eye needed cataract surgery I'm currently at 20/25 in that eye. In my experience the eye is a very resilient organ but like anything else there is a limit to how much abuse you can throw at it.

May I asked what retina doctor you see? I same thing happened to me yesterday, my eye doctor refuses to inject me with a eye shot (eyelea) but he said is too risky, he told me to wait for the blood to clear it self first and he will see
@@luisrios1224 I live in southern New Hampshire and I go to Mass Eye and Ear in Boston. All the retinal surgeons there are pretty good. Read the other answer I sent you. If you have a hemorrhage like mine it explains your options. You can either just wait and see if it clears up on its own or you can have eye surgery. I've had those injections myself. They help with macular edema from diabetes. But I don't know if they will fix a retinal hemorrhage.

@@luisrios1224 I also had a similar problem. The blood covered my vision completely.... I too am treated at MEEI. They had me wait for the body to absorb the blood. Then I had laser surgery to repair the vessel. Better to have a doctor take a conservative approach.
Another great video! The timing of this video release, as I have just finished training to capture fundus photos in our clinic. The majority of our patients are diabetic, and being able to see the retina and other eye anatomy has been so interesting. And because the majority of our patients are Spanish speaking, and me being able to speak Spanish, I've had the opportunity to be in the room with our optometrists and patients going over the photos and explaining how to take better care of their overall health
Many years ago my wife had gestational diabetes and for a few years took medication. She was able to stop the medication years ago. However, in the last 6 months she had double vision for a couple of months, but now is mostly okay (she doesn't wear her pirate patch anymore). Then she had the cloudiness you describe in this video. She has had MRI, VRI, and a couple of other scans. Nothing other than diabetes has been found. It is scary, but she seems to be doing okay at the moment. We watched this video together. Thank you for the information.

Exactly the same here, but from some intense googling I have realized 99.9% of stuff now a days can be treated fairly simply, rule of thumb for me is if I were to notice any very very obvious changes in my vision get it checked out. It will be able to be treated. So don’t stress out too much cuz it makes me feel super awful

Hi Dr. Allen, I was diagnosed with diabetes 2 several months ago. I recently started getting flashes more and more. I saw my retinal specialist and he didn't see anything diabetes related, but he did send me off to a lab to be tested for Sickle Cell disease!! I don't have a history of the disease, but my oldest daughter has the trait. My late husband figured it came from my side of the family, but at that time, we didn't check. Now my dad's deceased, so I'm going to ask my mom to be tested. Have you ever seen a patient and suspected Sickle Cell?

Just had my eye exam. Will have floaters removed from my left eye. That is the one that had a retina tear repaired 9 years ago. Then have cataract surgery in 3 months. Will get new eye glass prescriptions in a couple of weeks too. Luck my hypoglycemia has not become diabetes. Have watched my diet and exercise since my diagnosis in 1986. There is no medication for hypoglycemia. I am fortunate to keep diabetes at bay since my grandmother died in a diabetic coma at 48 years of age. Thanks for the information. My husband suffers with type 2 diabetes but he’s been in denial for the past 5 years he still eats normal food and eats lots of chocolate/sweets cakes etc even sometimes doesn’t take his medication he’s got an appointment with the eye hospital and can’t be bothered to attend it as too busy he says. We try to tell him to change his habits before something happens but he won’t listen to me or anyone he doesn’t want to realise just how dangerous this disease is
My mom is the same way. She is 66 has been diabetic for over 20 years but has only started taking her meds regularly for 2 years. She started seeing HUGE floaters last year and it turned out her last eye exam was April 2012. When she finally went last year, it turns out she has diabetic retinopathy, optic nerve thinning and dense cataracts in both eyes which were exacerbated by uncontrolled diabetes and high blood pressure.The Ophthalmologist said she hasn’t seen hemorrhaging that bad in years! My mom is still in denial that her diabetes impacted her eyes so much but with major diet changes, my mom’s A1C dropped from 9.1 to 5.1, unfortunately the damages are irreversible but she can prevent it from worsening. It’s amazing how much an eye doctor can see about one’s health just from an eye exam.
Ask him to imagine either waking up in the middle of the night or not being able to go to sleep at all because his feet feel like they are on fire. Ask him if he wants to wake up every few hours to go to the bathroom. Ask him if he wants you to go out and find a boyfriend because he can't satisfy you anymore. Ask him if he wants to experience excruciating pain during a heart attack. Ask him if he wants to end up fully conscious but unable to move or talk after he's had a stroke. Then finally ask him if he wants to end up blind and have a seeing eye dog as his only companion because you left him for your boyfriend who cares enough about you to take care of himself. Sir I have dry eye and entopic phenomenon which I got in 2021. I am using dry eye drops for nearly 10 months , doc said to stop this June but still my eyes become dry and I am just a high-school student.

Back again because somehow my vision is getting rapidly worse. So is my heart, kidney, and liver pain though. My right pupil is massive and has been. I lost the color in my eyes from a brilliant blue with green in the middle to literally completely grey. I have no bloody idea what that means. That happened in the course of a year a couple years back…everything that has been happening now though? While I was in the hospital they had me on a lot of Metformin and I quit it cold turkey. That scares me. I wish I could speak to anyone…
I only recently found out that i have most likely been diabetic for more than two years. That is when my health deteriorated. I never went to a doctor because I was always working and taking care of kids. I am finally on some insulin, but my vision has not cleared up at all. It's horrible, my vision was perfect before.

I know you have covered cornea issues, but I have an issue that is common with those that have had facial palsy. I am unable to produce tears in my bad eye plus unable to close that eyelid. I have a gold eyelid weight, but it is not doing enough to protect my cornea. At night I put gel and use moisture chambers for keeping the eye lubricated. But after 3 years, that has not helped as much as the doctor would like. Is there any way to repair the cornea, or to make the eye start producting tears? Thank you for all you do!!!
Hey, could you make a video about ocular dominance? Like how are left handed or right handed and how it’s similar to our eyes? I’ve always seemed to be able to see slightly brighter and clearer with my right eye compared to my left. It used to really worry me because I thought something was happening to my left eye, but it turned out to be normal to have one eye that’s a little better than the other assuming you have no underlying health condition.

Best to talk with a local dietitian and your medical doctor about lifestyle changes to help reverse or prevent diabetes. Exercise and diet are often the key to weight loss which can reduce the risk of diabetes and it progressing.

I've kept my average blood sugar normal for the past few years, yet still have retinopathy. Last A1Cs have been 5.5, 5.0, 5.2, and 5.2. So fellow diabetics, don't think just, because you're managing things well means you're immune to eye problems.

I have been a type 2 for a long time, and my last eye exam indicated that I am showing some signs of retinopathy, my blood sugar has been under 7.0 for many years, just being a diabetic for a long time puts stress on the eyes.
Doctor suddenly I had light green vision for 3 minutes .I'm pre dibitic.i got very scared wat is the reason.it happened on my right eye . please reply.
For one month while my diabetes was untreated I could see so much better that my eyeglasses were useless now that my blood sugar is better my sight is blurry again so my glasses work again I'm unsure of when to go back as my sight has dramatically changed in the last six months and not in the usual ways

What about broken blood vessels near the surface of the eye? I have one in my left eye that sometimes breaks and pools blood behind the conjunctiva.

Could the floaters be possible of one.of the symthoms of diabetic retinopathy?
I have frequent flashes in my left eye for 6 months now. I'm noticing it more and more but I don't have health insurance. Can I slow this down?
I am not sure what to say, flashing can occur for many reasons and unfortunately some of them can be an ocular emergency. Even if you don't have health insurance, perhaps you can find an eye care professional who can examine your eyes and let you know what is going on. With new vision changes, I think it is always better to have it looked at sooner rather than later.
I have had type 2 diabetes for a bit over 7 years. About 2 years ago I got this huge black floater in my left eye and couldn't see anything so I made an appointment to see my eyedoctor..it's a yearly thing since I was diagnosed with diabetes at age 52. Just before getting the huge black floater I have a slew of small tiny floaters and I got those golden flashes on the peripheral of both eyes. I just chucked it up from playing too many video games on my computer!!! Anyways..I was checked for retinal detachment and possible retinal tare. My eyedoctor did find I had developed cataracts in both eyes..left side more pronounced that other eye but no need for surgery just yet. At last eye doctor visit I had pink eye..and recently constant red eyes but not bloodshot looking...but i have lots wrong with me now cos i got hit with everything basically...first the huge eye floater, then an ulcerate small cut under my foot that had to be tended too so it woulded get gangrene and have to get it amputated. Then I got a csf cranial leak in april...then by summer I developed diabetic gastroparesis...by Sept had a second major stroke..and then in Nov was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer. The red eyes..not the bloodshot kind and not pinkeye kind has also become my new norm after my bone cancer spread like crazy..all thruout my whole body...hands/wrists..feet and ankles... and including upper spine/left upper shoulderblade and back of neck... and now in my lungs too. Never had any of these red eye, pinkeye issues before...just the odd annoying eye style mostly. What would cause my all over eyeballs red eye issue? .. weird thought...can the bone cancer do that? Heck I'm only 59 right now...but heck diabetes causes a lot of weird happenings...but i bet so can my cancer too..in a very weird way! Input please..thanks.
Oh btw...blurry vision and black webby floaters are now my constant norm since the past 2 years as well...when my sugars are very high...say 13 mols/l ... blurriness and black webby floaters become super nasty and severe vision wise. Most times now I can no longer see out of left eye at all anymore...it's the one with the more advanced cataract btw...half of eyeball has the shaded veil on the bottom half from halfway downwards. Anyways...
My father lost his both eye because of diabetes is there any chance to get back his eyes ,if there any transplantation makes his eye sight back , pls reply me sir

i was wondering if ytou ocould help me i have been suffering with eye strain and dry eyes about two months ago it has cleared up now and got alot better however my focus has not got better i am reallly strrugginling with tryin to concentrate on things focus on things small points also moving things like scrolling up or down on screens really triiggers it.
my when i try to focus my eyes they can shake and go blurely also same thing happens when tryin too read.
iahve been to the opticians have two diffrent eye test at two diffrent optians both coming back fine no problems eye health is fine
and perscritption is correct.
they gaver me the pencil to nose excerise to do which has helped with the eyes shakking but has not helped with the focusiing problems iv been having i was wondering if you can reccomend any execercise for focings muscles of eyee as i cxcannot find anything for this.

Well yes, and that is only for "clinical" signs (we know there is damage being done before we can detect it with a standard examination), but sadly many people go undiagnosed with diabetes (not to mention pre-diabetes and insulin resistance for many many years before it is caught). I frequently catch diabetic retinopathy during eye exams in patients who had never been diagnosed with diabetes before.

Eye floaters don't get into the anterior chamber. Rarely, the vitreous can wick into the anterior chamber after complicated surgeries, but it would not cause eye floaters to remain there. People can develop anterior chamber cells and pigment, however. Which may contribute to corneal swelling and a hazy medium.
@@DoctorEyeHealth ohhh cause someone from eye group says that after he reversing myopia after two years and start developing floaters at the start of the exercise, he gets his floaters fading by palming his eyes and he says the floaters in viterous chamber doesnt make sense, he belive that floaters is in anterior chamber and cause due to cyliary body being strained

To my knowledge at nighttime, if there is no UV light for the photochromic lens to change, all photochromic lenses should be very clear. The extractive lenses out now may slightly change due to artificial light.

Why do I see white dots in my vision after waking up in morning as I blink for few seconds to a minute. This happens with me sometimes. What is it? I have checked my eyes 8 months ago for my eye floaters but that that I didn't had white dots but I had blue and yellow dots that time after waking up looking at celing. This is a great question. I too see colorful dots in the early mornings. Some people do see a similar sparkles or dots after standing up too fast, which is due to blood flow. But I think the early morning spots I personally experience may be due to neurological signals within the visual cortex of the brain. Because In a dark room or with my eyes closed I can still see the dots or shapes, which if they were true eye floaters, I wouldn’t see them in a dark room, this tells me it’s unlikely to be eye related and more neurological. Ever seen my video on visual snow.
