About a year after I removed carbohydrates from my diet to address liver disease, I noticed one day that I wasn't seeing floaters anymore. At that time I had been experiencing them for so long that I couldn't remember life without them. It's now four years since I changed my diet and I still don't have any floaters. I was 72 when I changed my diet.
Wow @robertstanton1668 !! Did you really COMPLETELY remove ALL carbs to ZERO grams per day or are you maybe at 15grams or less per day?! Excited for your response!
@@CognacKidd I transitioned from low carb to keto (fewer than 20 grams) to carnivore and almost zero carbs per day. i will occasionally have a little bit of low carb veggies that my kids make. For the most part, I eat only animal sourced foods.
I went low carb 4 months ago and two weeks ago I had floaters and flashes in my right eye and was diagnosed with vitreous detachment. I’m hoping low carb will help reduce them. Definitely will start taking the enzymes he mentions in this video.
I’m 63 yo. I noticed more and more floaters over the past decade. However, they went completely away about a year ago and I just thought I was lucky. Then I saw this video and realized that there is a possible correlation: About a year ago, my husband started making me fresh juice every morning. Ingredients include: PINEAPPLE, apples, celery, carrots, beets and ginger every day…..no floaters…hmmmmmmm🤔 As a NP, I am always looking for new treatments for my patients…thus I tuned in to your lecture. Thank you!
@@MSPUKIMOLIELIE i think usually when people are talking about floaters, i think they are talking about a physical obstruction in the the eye that looks like a germ or some kind of cell just sitting in your line of sight. migraines with aura's are something different. i have them both unfortunately.
@@JamieReynolds89 I understand, but everyone is different. Its very similar to patients who have auras before they have a seizure. In my case, if I start seeing silvery floaters, I know to find a place to sit down because when they invade about 50-75% of my field of vision, I know I might fall or my body gets very weak. Thereafter, I get a very bad headache. These floaters are usually provoked with intense sunlight; fluorescent lights; hazy days, etc. Every body responds differently to stressors. I do have black floaters invading my field of vision on occasion, but being 65, I know those particles are detaching from somewhere and just floating around, without causing as much harm (to me, my field of vision, and mobility) as silver floaters. I'd rather have any of these two than a detached retina.
@@MSPUKIMOLIELIEThose aren’t floaters like this video is referring to. I also used to get the zig zag lightning-like visual disturbances before a migraine same as you. Those are not “floaters.” The floaters in this video are physically real in the fluid of the eyeball.
For everyone who has eye floaters and are currently in panic: keep on reading. I first encountered floaters when I was about 19 but somehow they moved out of my field of vision, then at 27 I suddenly had a bunch of them. At that time I also had bad anxiety, stress etc and I couldn’t stop looking for the floaters that it became a daily obsession. But: I overcame it. It WILL get better! Try to find the core of where the anxiety comes from, maybe with a little more help like therapy or someone you trust to talk to. Strangely, I still have floaters but I barely notice them because I’m not scared of them anymore. The mind can be a powerful ally or your biggest enemy. If I can do it, you can do it too!
Thank you! I recently had a several panic attacks bc of finances and now can’t stop noticing the floaters and it’s giving me major anxiety. Reading this helped 🙏🏼
I have it since last year , I am too stressed and I got anxiety as well , I tried to mediate for sometime I was better but again I noticed like they are getting more , went to doctor he said your eyes are ok , donno what to do please help me ,

Remember you can close your eyes swirl your eyes around in a circle and it will temporarily push the floaters out of the center of your field of view, this will work for a few mins and give you time to forget they were bothering you.. it works for me.
Mine continue to swirl, this is not the answer for many people. I’m glad it works for you. Every time I look down then back up, swirling….it’s constant
When I got them in my twenties, i was really worried. Learning what they are and that they're harmless helped me to calm down. Since then I don't notice them if I don't concentrate on them anymore. Couldn't care less now.
Excellent content! I'm 63, farsighted and wear glasses I have had large, numerous floaters, a few are large for most of my life. They can be extremely annoying! One year ago, I started taking an over 55 multivitamin, a vitamin B complex and Ocuvite in the off chance that these might be beneficial to me and my visual health. With in a few days, the floaters were gone! However, if I forget to take the supplements for a few days, then floaters start to return. Thanks!
Most Big Store Vit B Complex are cheap lab chemicals in forms unused by the body. Google quality B vitamins. Also Magnesium Oxicides- wasted money. Magn Citrate or Glycinate or Threonate(best) but most costly.
Young man, thank you so much! I've been angry for two weeks now over a young optometrist blowing me off by simply saying I have floaters. YOU just explained exactly what I have - Weiss Ring. I also have the lightning bolt, which is most noticeable in the dark, but not necessarily in the dark. I've had little floaters for many decades and they don't bother me. But the lightning bolts, the HUGE thing floating across my line of vision from left to right and just the overall PHYSICAL feeling all in my eye and socket, are VERY distracting and I don't even feel safe driving right now. And I noticed last night that my affected eye sees in the color gray, what my unaffected eye sees in black print. I will find an opthalmologist first thing tomorrow, now that the holidays are over. Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
I hope you have seen an ophthalmologist by now. But if not and you are still seeing flashes, get to one asap. You could be having retina tear. It happened to me. It happened to me during the covid lockdown so I couldn't find a retina specialist and lost part of my vision due to the delay of several months.
Dr. Allen, I really enjoyed your presentation and found it tremendously helpful. I'm 74, have had the small type of floaters for eight years, had a retinal tear in one eye in 2017 and another in the other eye in 2018. Both were easily treated with a laser procedure. I had cataract surgery for both eyes last year. As you said, laser surgery is simple and easy and very impressive with its results. I asked my surgeon if he could work on the floaters after the cataract surgery, and I also mentioned my retinal tears. He suggested the laser procedure for the floaters would present another danger for retinal tears, and he advised against it. So, that's off my list now. I'm going to try supplements you mentioned to see if that helps. My floaters are not super annoying except when I think about them or am looking at a white wall or other such background. Luckily our brains tune them out if they're not too bad. Again, thank you so much for this informative video!
Thanks so much, Tony! I appreciate you sharing your experience as I think it will be good for other people to hear. Please let us know how the supplements work for you and if they help at all. Cheers
I have a retinal tear post cataract surgery, and I was told that there is nothing that can be done for it. I have massive vision distortions and eye floater in that eye, and huge floaters in the remaining eye as well. Exactly what sort of laser surgery did you have?
Ive had floaters my whole life. I'm watching this video and I realized they are gone. I added Zinc, Vitamin C, Collagen and L-lysine to my routine because of other issues. Just want to say those supplements worked for me and by total accident. So cool! Thanks for the info
That's interesting, being dehydrated 🤔. I'm always getting dehydrated, doc's are always telling me I need to drink more water. When I've ended up in after hours or hosp for various different things doc's were always putting me on a drip to get more water into my body. Now that I do concentrate on drinking more water, - I have noticed, - there's been a big improvement. I don't get floaters nearly as much as I used to. Mind you I'm on more vitamin supplements too now. 👍
I used to develop small floaters at my 20s, when I strained my eyes too much for a few months, due to moving to a new hostel with a darker working environment. I also check my eye with a specialist, he told me that it won't go away and I will get used to it and it will be less noticeable. I didn't think much about it anymore, and it's been there for a few years, maybe a little lesser after 1 year or 2 years, during that time, I was very busy and I didn't take much care about my diet either. However after many years, maybe also after I changed my lifestyle in terms of diet, I started eating a lot of vegetables , fruits, whole food, it eventually gone away, maybe it still happens once in awhile, but most of the time I barely notice them anymore. Maybe a healthy lifestyle did improve the floaters problem. I didn't take any pineapple , supplement or anything on purpose, just a healthy diet changes and it is gone after couple of years
I'm 81 had eye floaters all my life since a kid sometimes small sometimes big 🙃 I was a vitamin freak all my life so that didn't change or stop them 🙃 to me just part of life , I notice them most coming from dark to lite
Thank you. I had no idea what was happening with my eyes. The eye doctor said everything was ok. I got vocal. He told me to go somewhere else. They told me everything was ok. My eyes got so bad I had several wrecks. Then I got floaters. I returned to the original doctor and my exam was benign ... again. I told him what you said, he laughed and dismissed everything to age. This time, I got very vocal. He made an appointment with someone in the Eye Surgery Group. I have severe cataracts in both eyes and bleeding in both eyes. I'm getting monthly injections for the bleeding, cataract removal starts September 7th. After that, I get laser surgery on both eyes after I get the cataracts removed. Currently, I can barely see. I am miserable. Posting isnt easy. I have severe photophobia. The surgeon thinks that I will regain a majority of my sight. Thanks again. Seriously. Ðavid Bendall, Bartlett, TN
After watching your other video about floaters, I switched my morning juice to almost exclusively pineapple juice. My floaters have decreased noticeably.
Eye floaters started in my mid-twenties. They are small dark spots that move around. I have gotten used to them and don’t notice them anymore, unless I focus on them. Thanks for the informative video!
WOW! This is what I was looking for. I asked an Ophthalmologist in an optical store about these "lines" I was seeing and all he was saying was "oh, you're ok, you're ok". What a worthless "professional", since I was not asking if I was ok or not. But here in this video I got everything I needed to know. Thank you! I will start with the vitamins and see how this goes because I don't take medications and I am a believer of vitamin and mineral supplements. Great video and I was encouraged to subscribe.
@@northerngirl1637 Google search suggests "Vitreous Health" which is a supplement that claims to be "scientifically proven for floaters". Maybe "Diana" is an advertising bot?
Very informative. I've had them since my early 20s and am now in my late 50s. They can be very annoying at times. I had the flashes of light and new floaters that looked like an octopus squiring ink in my eye! Rushed to the Dr. and all was fine. My Dr. explained what happened but hearing it again when I wasn't freaking out was so helpful.
Thanks a lot, my doctor just said I have I floaters and will probably go blind in the long run, and suggested only surgery as a solution. It is nice to hear there are other options.
I've just saw you on Video Ranking Academy. You do great video I've been watching you for a while you helped me make up my mind I think I'm gonna join it now. You have taught me a lot about Eye floaters. Thanks Eye Doctor.
I had floaters as long as I can remember. I used to tell my eye Dr’s (severe astigmatism since about age 7) that I could see cells. I’d explain that I could see individual cells, alone, or in clusters, in chains, etc. they always looked at me like I was crazy. I could even see the nucleus, etc. in about 2012 I had retinal detachment and had emergent surgery, like you said, then developed glaucoma ( which resolved in a year), then developed cataracts; (within a year) and had surgery with lens implants. After the surgery, the floaters were gone (I was approximately 58 at the time). Just recently I have noticed a small black floater this looks like a small black hole. Just had eye exam and all ok; however, the glaucoma has come back. Very interesting. I think I went thru everything you explained.
"I’d explain that I could see individual cells, alone, or in clusters, in chains" I think I can relate to this, however, perhaps it could just be the shape and pattern of them?
omg. this was terrifying to read. 😢 everyone else's posts i have so far gave me relief that I would wait a day or two since seeing this floater. now I am terrified.
@@JennHayden I just saw this…no no…I’m so sorry, don’t be terrified. The floaters have nothing to do with retinal detachment, they are harmless. I’m so sorry to scare you ( and not see this until 5 months later)!
I’m 55 yrs old. My first encounter with eye floaters was when I had Covid in January 2023. I was terrified to see bunch of stringy spots in my vision. Then I stumbled upon Dr Allen’s video on how to treat eye floaters. I religiously ate fresh pineapple everyday for 3 weeks and noticed 50% reduction in eye floaters. My floaters are still there but felt more comfortable, more transparent and less noticeable. I’m now taking daily supplements called Vitreous Health eye floaters formula and Bromelain & Papain.
Have your vision checked, I had the same thing in one eye, went to the Optometrist (glasses prescription) and the machines did not see it, but the Dr could with his eye loupe looking at the very top of the retina, he could see a little bleeding. Sent me to the Retina Dr the next day. That Dr had better gear and found a small tear where the gel in the eye had pulled on the retina. He tacked it down with about 5 or 6 shots from a LASER and I was good to go. I still have a few of the speck floaters, there had been clouds of them and a couple string ones, that probably the ring. I will be trying the fruit supplements to see if It can clear up the remaining ones. The Retina Dr did say that 80-90% of people have the humor detach and nothing happens, but for the others it can progress into a retinal tear and that's no fun.
I am almost 64 years old and I have had eye floaters since I was very young, possibly early/mid teens. The floaters are the hairy spider ones you first mention. I have many more floaters now. Not sure if cell phone use is contributing to this. I will watch the remainder of this video tomorrow. I sure would like to get rid of at least some of them! Thanks for addressing the topic.
I removed my floaters without surgery just changing my diet to low carb and intermittent fasting. I had really big ones and it is all gone now except for a really light one that I have to purposely look for!

I had floaters starting in my teens. After learning about B1 deficiency symptoms (Docs are unaware of this serious & common condition), I started taking a special B1 supplement and the floaters were completely gone in 3 days. Whenever they come back, I immediately go back in the B1 and they go away. Although the government puts B1 supplements into high carb processed foods and grains, those are the very foods that deplete B1 so you’re lucky if you just barely break even (I suspect most of us don’t!) I take Allithiamine supplements which is far different the cheap, useless B1 supplements they sell at drug stores which are poorly absorbed. Taking too much B1 can deplete other b vitamins, so it’s important to keep an eye on that w/ a nutritionists or functional medicine doc.
Watching you as interested in this condition as we patients are, gives us hope and faith this will eventually have a save and definite solution. Thank you very much.

I have tons of floaters since i was younger. I taught they were normal and everyone had them. I didn't even know they were an issue. They never bothered me at all and I have 20/20 vision
I've had floaters for over 30 years. My ophthalmologist said when I get farther into my 50's they will go away. I'm coming up on 56 and I have a lot of floaters, still. It's annoying. I really hate it!
Many people say that blending blueberries and kefir everyday got rid of their floaters. Maybe something you can try. Seems to work fir many people . Hope it works for you
There is a connection between migraine and noticability of floaters. In some people persistence of vision changes in the hours before and days following a migrain. This affects how well the brain ignores them. You can find you're much more sensitive to flicker or movement, so its almost certain that they don't change, they are just more apparent.
I've noticed the intensity of my floaters correlates to quality of sleep, hydration levels, and white light. If I'm killing it on the first 2, the less noticeable / distracting they are overall. I've been taking bromalain supplements (1700mg) with dinner for about a month and have observed that they drift out of my vision much faster than before, which I take as a positive, it's less distracting in bright conditions. My floaters only appeared after small retinal tears, once in each eye 20 something years ago, the Dr also "took" out the floaters after repairing the tears with a laser. existing tears are in left eye after large tear last year and right eye small tear a few weeks back which is getting repaired in a few days. In the decades between the 2nd and 3rd events floaters would randomly appear very small and faint, disappearing within days, unlike the ones from the last 2 tears which seem to be here to stay.
That's interesting you say from lack of sleep as I have notice this and often wandered if this is somehow the cause. I remember doing a 'red-eye' trip from Perth to China and not sleeping at all that night. I'm 6'5" and long legs so sleep is rare on planes. I spent the next day at the factory I was visiting and I had pretty bad floaters 'dragging' across my vision. Also was hitting the energy and coffee drinks a lot so definitely dehydrated. Went to bed really early and had the next day off so slept right in. Visions was good after that.
I've had floaters ever since I participated in a study to correct near sightedness via surgery to stretch the muscles in eye. Needless to say, the surgery didn't work and now I have floaters. Your post reminds me to drink more water as that could indeed help with my floaters!--also sleep!!
Can lutein and zeaxanthin supplements eliminate floaters 📸? Also can sleep deprivation cause flashes and more floaters because the eyes arent getting enough rest?
I am almost 68. I have had them since I was about 11 or 12. I can remember telling my mother back then. I have alway been near sided. Now I'm everything with a stigmatism .
I've been having migraine aura / scintillating scotomas periodically for almost 2 decades now. At very first when I started having them, they truly scared the life out of me, thinking I'm going blind. Over the years I got used to them and don't even get bothered by them, as they grow from a blind spot to all sort of C shapes and then disappear within 30 minutes, leaving me feel a bit odd, but nothing I can't handle. On the other hand, I have also developed hundreds of floaters in both of my eyes at the very beginning of January, 2022 (at age 29) and there's no reason for me in downplaying it, as they literally caused me to steer off my usual way of living life signifiantly. I have not only become more anxious and stressed about them, I sort of became dull and lethargic knowning that I would not only have to live the rest of my life like this, they can become even worse as I age. The single thing keeping me going and remain hopeful is that one day, possibly within the next 10 years, scientist who understand the struggle can come up with a safe way of getting rid of these collagen/protein aggregation fibrils. They are not a nuisance (that's putting it lightly), they take a person's ability to function normally on a day to day basis, behavioral and personality changes are highly involved. Regardless the fact that they don't cause other harm to the body or be a reason to lose sight, but they disrupt one's quality of life immensely, which first begins mentally, then translates to bodily deterioration, since a body won't fuction well for long with bad mental health.
i am in the same exact position, my friend, hundreds of floaters and i second everything you say, we have to be practical and get on with it the best we can
@@TheLuminousOne Sending some positive energy towards you my guy, it's those who experience it know how difficult it really is. Better days are hopefully ahead, indeed!
I understand you, very well do you have a headache? It takes about 20 minutes. But the good thing is I don't have a headache. Doctors said it could be migraine with aura. there is no cure. It's been 13 years but I still get scared every time. I was also given a full diagnosis. I don't know what to watch out for. I'm going to both neurology and eye doctor for a checkup.
@@Merhabatugbaben Headache usually yes, but either irrelevant or just minor, doesn't affect my usual activities. I can confidently say that migraine auras are not even an issue for me anymore, when I notice it's onset, I'm just telling myself "fine, it'll go away in half an hour". If I'm at work, it can be difficult to look at a screen or anything as I am practically blind, but I just pay extra attention to what I'm doing and carry on. Floaters on the other hand are something I don't see myself ever handling them wellr, extremely annoying, disappointing, frustrating, tiresome, you name it!
Since age 65. Two stand out...a ring (small) and a string...these are "shadow" floaters. The other variety are translucent "cloudy" blobs. Naturally, when my head is still they sink out of the field of vision. I have had no additions to the "family". I'm myopic, wearing glasses since age 16...I'm now 80. Both eyes are affected. I do see my doctor yearly...so far things are on track!
Thanks for this content. I am going to keep an eye on the non-surgical treatments. I've had floaters for as long as I can recall, and am keen to get rid of them without going through surgery.
gosh... I thought I was the only you have this. it happened to me in 2021 when I got panic and anxiety attack for the first time.. it was worse b4 I can't even see myself in the mirror or read properly..I didn't notice it was slowly getting better. Thank God. I didn't do anything but I do have an eye exercise every night maybe that helps... 😊
I've had floaters for as long as I can remember. I first started visiting an optometrist regularly early into middle school and was told I have an astigmatism. Mine are the longer squiggly type and they have never really been numerous or annoying and seem to have decreased as I've gotten a little older, I'm 23 now. I have never actively perused treatment but I do enjoy pineapple from time to time.
I started getting floaters in January of last year when I was 26. They're mostly small spots but theres a few less noticeable long string ones that are only visible when it's really bright out.
Check your vitamin d level , if youre d deficent Take vitamin d 60k weakly once, you will see the results within 2 month's ,it will stop floaters progression. .trust me
Eat your pineapple. Warm the eyes and exercise them like a muscle. Then make sure they are not dry. Use an eye spray to keep them moist. Avoid too many screens. You can train your brain to ignore them over time. Surgery is an invasive procedure. These days try and avoid it. As there are always side effects, simple cause and effect.
I have every kind of floater and visual snow, flashes. Its a nightmare. I wouldn’t mind them as much but I have one MASSIVE floater in my right eye. Jet black. It grows every month. Soon enough who knows. Thank God I’m saved through Jesus Christ. Heaven is gonna be amazing. God bless everyone!
I did the pineapple about 2 years ago for around 6 months. I ate pineapple almost every day. After a while I forgot why I was eating pineapple everyday and so I stopped because, well, sugar. And I can say for certain that my floaters have improved since then. I rarely notice them now. I see them but they're not as bothersome as they were. I don't have empirical data to back this up, but it seems like they have reduced.
Or maybe your brain had learned to manifest what it thinks is there behind it... and yes i know floaters move with my eye but don't stop when i stop moving my eye....
Thank you for the thorough explanation. I’m not even close to 50 and have had floaters for years due to PVD. A year ago I had to bilateral cataract surgery for grade IV and grade II cataracts, after which I had some pretty big floaters which haven’t become any worse, but also haven’t become any better. I don’t have a lot of them, just one large noticeable floater in each eye that cause my vision to become opaque as they pass behind the lenses. Because of being young, my eye doctor doesn’t want to put any more energy into either eye as he’s concerned we didn’t have a smoking gun cause for the early cataracts. I’m going to try the bromelain route and see what happens before seeking further medical intervention as this is the first I’ve heard of it
I took bromelain with papain for some time and it cleared up my floaters (which I didn't have a serious problem with -- it was just enough for me to notice, when I was staring up at the ceiling). However, I forgot that I wasn't supposed to take bromelain every day for an indeterminate time, and I developed gum infection from taking too much of it without a break. I read somewhere that it's advisable to take it intermittently (skip some days).
Early cataract development can of course be related to genetics. Also smoking, alcohol consumption, medications and systemic disease have also been associated with worsening cataract development. Either way, I hope the bromelain helps or something else maybe. Thanks for watching and I am wishing you the best!
Here's a tip for dealing with floaters. Flick your eyes up and down when the floater get's in your field of vision. This will cause then to move up/down in your eye and it helps because they're harder to notice when moving up and down vs side to side.
I didn’t get these massive floaters in one eye until about two months after I got cataract surgery. My vision in that eye was 20/20 a couple weeks after the surgery. Now it’s 20/30.
Hello, Michael here. I have/had cataracts. One of my lenses was recently replaced by a ‘normal distance’ focus lens. I am 79, soon 80. Floaters have been in both eyes since I was an older teenager. It has not become worse for the most part over all these years. Over time it has become less annoying. Btw, when one cataract was replaced, I was amazed with the resulting improvement, not only with my 3 ft to infinity vision, but OMG, the colours. So bright and so vivid! White was unbelievably white, almost too bright to look at! The pleasure I received looking from that one eye was truly a God Send! One curious thing though, when looking through the as yet untreated eye, obviously everything is blurry, but also all colours have a yellowish cast. I could be wrong, but bearing in mind the night to day improvement in the treated eye, it would seem like many plastics, our natural organic lenses often yellow with age, at least mine did! I cannot wait to get the last cataract replaced. One variation I have requested for this non-primary eye is some sort of ‘near field’ lens? My optometrist has said the following is an excellent idea. Hopefully, in this way I can partially restore my previous extraordinary ability of extremely close up vision, still well into my 70’s. I could focus on anything as close as an inch or less from my eyes. I really miss that. Finally, on floaters? I will definitely try employing your recommendations. Thank you!
I am shocked and amazing how can pineapple get rid of floaters and specially a round colour golden flash in my eye that it was affecting my vision and recently I've been taken three slices ❤❤of fresh pineapple first thing in the morning I just can't believe it that my flash has gone and floaters are disappearing, believe me it works no need for chemicals natural things are better thanks god it only took three weeks thanks god for it and thanks to this doctor I heard it from him may god bless you 🙏🙏
Thanks for this video, should have watched this a year earlier. I am 50 years old and had these massive floaters last autumn, can't remember any flashes and had no dark areas. However after 3 weeks or so I saw a dark corner while I was wiping something out of my left eye, only visible when the left eye was closed. One week later this shadow was still there but only visible when closing my left eye. I told this my doctor a few days later while I was bringing in some papers and... 24 hours later got my surgery because of a retinal tear. I was so lucky that I mentioned the shadow and that the tear was developing so slowly that surgery could save me from losing my right eye.
Terrific presentation. About 10 years ago (I am mid 70s) I had two tears in my right eye (about a day apart) and was seen in hospital with two follow up visits. The tears healed without incident. This week, I noticed flashing in my left eye (triggered by bright light in an otherwise low light environment) and was seen by my eye doctor, who did OCT and Optos plus a full exam. Nothing appeared amiss. I had successful cataract surgery (both eyes at once) 7 months previous but it was not considered to be a factor. I have had floaters for about 20 years and am accustomed to them. Watching your video, the section about vitreous detachment, I realized that is what likely happened. The flashes appear to have all but disappeared but I did see a new large floater in that eye yesterday. I regularly watch your videos and am always impressed. Thank you.
Asteroid hyalosis is what I have been told I have. It started with a few greyish strands in my 30’s and about 2 years ago I suddenly got lots of black spots, mostly in one eye. Very bothersome. The bromelain + sounds like a safe thing to try. Thanks for this info.
For sure! Asteroid hyalosis is a bit different than the floaters we are discussing in this presentation, asteroid is due to calcium soap deposits which...sadly we don't fully understand why people have it. It is often found in the left eye more often than the right. Also Women are more likely to have it than men. Some animals and pets are known to get asteroid too. Usually, though, the asteroid is mild and most people don't even notice them. (but I have had a few patients where it was so bad they needed surgery to remove them)
I have the thread-like floaters. But more annoying are translucent glob-like floaters that blur my vision as they float by. Can anything be done about these?
@@rondajackson2287 I developed floaters like that after a PVD following cataract surgery. Fortunately, it's only in one eye. Honestly, as I get older, a vitrectomy is less frightening than it used to be. Even with 1-2% incidents of retinal detachment/tear, most tears can be repaired. Still scary, but so is the prospect of dealing with the blurry floaters for the rest of my life.
I have the same things! I’ve described the issue to my OD as “slimy vision” for years now. It’s like having “eye boogers” sliding back and forth across your eye, right? My OD can’t see them, however, and has never been able to tell me what I’m experiencing. They began after a sudden PVD. I’ve got tons of the regular black ones, too. I’m definitely going to try the supplement, and see if it helps.
I have a truly annoying amount of floaters since I was 15 (both eyes). It's the main cause of my depression. It feels like there's a wall of constantly moving and restless creatures between me and the world. Now I'm 27 and it got worse. I've been to 8 doctors and none of them could help. I have tried eating pinapple for 6 months and it did nothing. Looking forward for future treatments. Thank you for this video it gives me hope. I'm a media student and my work and life started to get especially hard with this condition. I'm working on a short movie where I create the exact replica of my vision with the help of computer animation. It's almost done and I'm gonna upload it on my channel in a few weeks. Thats my only way to cope with it so far. My number one wish would be to see normally again and have a healthy vision. Everyone tells me "I'm so young" but I have this condition since I was 15 so now I feel like 80 because all the stress and fear. I really don't know how to live with it or accept it.
I'm just starting to notice floaters. Have a history of eating bad. High carb, sugar, ect. While I can't comment on fixing the situation, I can comment on nerve damage of which the eye is an extension of the brain. I have ringing in the ears, it's 2 solid years. It's not going away any time soon. I happend to have a liter of carrots juice, seemed to improve symptoms. And was vit D deficient (doctor caught it cause i was having chronic neck pain). Just wondering if it's related to not eating a certain nutrient. PS. Most B vitamin it's easier to supplement than to pay for hundreds in testing.
I had exactly what you described as a retinal tear 2 years ago and I did not know what it was. Luckily for me, it must have healed by itself, and after that, all my floaters disappeared Oo. I'm diabetic so I wish my doctors would have been as good on giving information about my eye health as they have been about talking about my foot health tbh...
you give me hope bc im having all these symptoms including the new one about a dark shadow in your peripheral vison and ive been trying to get an appointment with an eye doctor for 6 months. the ones that specialize in this don't accept my insurance and the ones that do accept my insurance dont specialize in this. what a mess. I guess ill have to live with it and hope it dont get too bad because at this point my only option is for it to get so bad i have to go to the ER to get proper treatment 🇺🇲🏥🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️👎🏾👎🏾
@@cjvaye99 Hope you do get some help I can only imagine how it must be having insurance stopping you :( I know it can be really taxing having this in your eyes so I do hope it works out. Lovering my blood sugars dramatically have helped them to not reoccur. If you do get bright spots, it will look like a small but strong flashlight in a corner of your vision (I saw them mainly at night time in very dark rooms), go strain to an optician or the ER. I wish I had since I now know I could have lost my eyesight if I had been unlucky. Fingers crossed for you!
@@mommysytmom9537 I had the floaters for years but they got bigger 2-3 years before I had the episode. The Flashes of light happened on and off for a month and then just disappeared along with the floaters. I have tiny specs left, just the size of a head or tip of a needle compare to the ones I had that were rice corn in size.
If laser surgery for floaters is done during cataract surgery while neither the original lens nor the new artificial lens are in place, they can't be damaged by the laser, so the procedure would have a lower risk. Seems like it's worth a try, both are approved procedures.

Hi Doc I m 61 and I have severe myopia L-14 and R-9...I started getting floaters a few years ago..went for eye check up twice n it's alright.Hope there is no complication as long as I live
I wanted to share my experience with a sudden and severe eye floater that blocked my vision, which was incredibly frightening. I rushed to the optician, who told me to just live with it. After doing some research online, I found success stories about using castor oil for eye floaters. For six consecutive days, I applied cold-pressed castor oil to my eyelids and lashes, using a generous amount before bed. To my astonishment, my eye floater completely disappeared after just a week! I’m so grateful and relieved. If you decide to try this, please choose high-quality cold-pressed castor oil-avoid buying from Amazon. Instead, look for it at a local Walmart and make sure to research the brand to confirm it’s organic. Feel free to reach out with any questions! For context, I’m 28 years old. Thank you!
@@messienthusiast7053Just try it for yourself no harm. If you feel your eye getting irritated just stop applying it. Also do not directly put it inside your eye as this will cause discomfort for sure.
Thanks for info! I got vit floaters from a concussion a year ago. For a few months, they were darker, that worried me, so I saw 2 ophthalmologists who assured me they should fade within 2 years. They now have, and because of neural adaption, they are insignificant in my life.
This is so strange, not until I ran into this video did I realize the 3-4 small floaters I had for decades have actually cleared out off my sight. I have begun a low carbohydrate diet to help me with my Hashimoto's at the beginning of this year and have improved many health complications that were bothering me. Among them was my vision. I see much brighter and well defined and as I noticed now without floaters. :)
I had floaters for the first time at age 61 along with HBP. They went away after a few weeks. I saw an Ophthalmologist who said there was no bleeding so far so good.
Had floaters since age 9 or 10…. Now 54. Learned to live with them but for years during my teens gave me great anxiety. Eventually learnt to live with them especially after visiting an eye doctor. I do wonder if 1 day they will get so bad that I need to do something about them. They are definitely worse after poor sleep or when tired or when stressed I notice they annoy me more.
I have recently started taking the vitreous health supplement you mentioned. My eye doctor told me about them. I’m 43, very near sighted, and have vitreous detachment in both eyes. I have loads of floaters and see the Weiss ring in my right eye which affects my vision. I’m praying the supplement helps!! I’m skeptical that it will help with the big one though. I’ve been loving your videos, doc. Thank you!!
Same age as you and have several floaters in my left eye, a retna specialist said i have a pretty bad case of floaters compared to others that typically come in for seeing eye floaters, I've heard that medicare should cover yag laser treatment for eye floaters
I too am very interested to know how you get on with this supplement, and where did you purchase it from? I'm 50 years old and I've had floaters pretty much all my life (as long as I can remember) there are simply too many to count and in both eyes. About 3 months ago they got much worse and many more appeared, I've had two Optician examinations who tell me there is nothing wrong and it's just age related. I've always had great eye sight, never worn glasses (I still don't) The floaters are incredibly distressing. I wish you luck with this supplement, and I hope it works or at least improves things for you Rebecca. All the best - Neil (UK)
@@NeilBradleyMS neil my optician said the same thing, he said if you really want them gone he would give me a referral to a vitroctomy specialist since removing the vitreous is the only way to get rid of floaters for good, however i asked if he could refer me to a retna specialist and they too recommended a vitroctomy but i only read with one eye so that's not really an option with the risk of complications
@@NeilBradleyMS I bought them at the optometrist office. It was around $60 a bottle so $120 for a 6mos supply. My doc said if they don’t work in 6mos they aren’t going to work for me. The risks with surgery are not something I’m willing to take right now so the $120 investment was worth trying for me.
I have recurring Iritis as a teenager and young adult (although, as once I hit my 30s its been less often) , and it has caused many floaters. Usually they aren't an issue, but sometimes they are very distracting. Especially when staring at screens, as I work in I.T., or the sky. Really distracting when looking at the sky specifically. But this was great information, and I hope there are simple ways to resolve these one day. Excellent video and great information!
I am 66 years old and have been dealing with floaters for a very long time. I also occasionally have the lightening in my vision but I also have developed a blindness in the center of my right eye. I've been to an eye surgeon who has told me that he sees the floaters and I do have cataracts in early stages and there's nothing to do about it yet. But he couldn't identify the cause of the blindness. My father had glaucoma, but he ruled that out and said it could be a neurological problem. Regardless, it does affect my ability to see very well and it's getting really hard to read or paint, which I do almost every day. My older brother had his eyes drained to get rid of his floaters. Apparently, that procedure worked well for him.
I been having the flooders all my life.. I started to notice then when I was 5 years old.. now I'm 42, and one of them on my left I is starting to get a bit bigger.. my eye Doctor said it is normal, but he never explained to me that age affects them flooders. I feel this video helps explain it better.
I have been having flashes of light in my eyes that lasted for 20 minutes for 13 years. Although there is no headache, it was said by the neurologist that it could be migraine with aura. meanwhile, it was noticed that a large tear had occurred in my retina during the eye control I went to, and I had a laser operation. Fortunately, my retina was treated and my vision is intact. It is not known whether the retina was torn by flashes of light. I do not have myopia or diabetes. Do not neglect your eye doctor checks After a sudden movement after laser, anisocoria started. it goes through every now and then. It is unknown if this is also connected to the laser. Tests are currently under way to diagnose it. all of this is so scary. If you read the comment, doctor, do you think these are all connected? and what needs to be done.
Ocular migraine. I get them from time to time and I hate them. Mine last about 20 minutes, and the light is there whether my eyes are open or closed, with temporary spots of blindness that eventually goes away. I tend to lie down, relax as best as possible and keep my eyes closed until it subsides. No headache.

I didn't have floaters until after cataract surgery. Small black spots floating across my vision. They were very annoying at first, but my brain has learned to ignore them for the most part. My doctor has suggested he can zap them with lasers, but since they are not bad I have not had the procedure.
I had cataract surgery at age 50 (3 years ago). The lenses that were used were too small (I could see the outer edge of the lenses which caused constant rings). Had larger ones put in and which took care of that problem but created more problems. Had PRK done on right eye in office and left eye done during lens replacement. Then got scar tissue on both eyes. Had laser to take care of scar tissue, now I have floaters and my right eye is more blurry than it was with the cataract (apparently I still have an astigmatism). The floaters I have are black specks and "ghost-like" or "veil-like" ones in both eyes. On dreary, overcast days the veil-like ones are worse. If I could turn back the clock I don't think I would have had the cataract surgery until I was older.
For me it started with stomach pain. After years of observation and finding out eyes are a extension of the nerve system. I made a connection to my gut and my vagus nerve. I think there is the key. And by treating the malfunction of the digestive system and reduce the inflammation the floaters are almost gone. I still have a little bit problems with my stomach but I am learning every day and almost sure that by restore the gut completely the nerves system will do his job like normal and no floaters again. It is cause and effect. Something created the stomach pain and in the stomach malfunction created nerve problems. It is for us people to find out the cause so we can cure. Not treating the symptoms.
^^ this right here. I made the same connection. I've had complicated gut/brain axis issues over the last decade. Now, looking back, the instances where floaters had become particularly visibile was/is usually in times of inflammation. Vagus nerve health is clutch. Love your attitude and cant help but to feel a sense of relief seeing someone have similar thoughts/observations.
@@rosepalmer3525 Honestly... the biggest help seems to be (as of lately) avoiding seed oils. It took a few years of supplementation (multivitamins, OM mushroom 10-in-1, CBD, lots of turmeric ginger). I'm 75, female, and have been dealing with floaters for over 30 years. (And I've been FAR-sighted all my life!) They are annoying when they are in your direct line of sight. They've now shifted around so I don't really see them anymore, but at the worst, it was a bunch of tiny dots in a pattern just like a clock face, right in the center of my vision; most noticeable when looking at a light-colored object or background (i.e., white wall or the computer screen), but not bothersome at all when looking at dark colors or watching TV. Most recently, they are just an occasional single dot or two that I see in the corners of the eye; and make me look like a fool swatting at a gnat that isn't there! I was told (about 15 years ago) that there were no treatments, that you just have to learn to live with them. I wondered even then why they could not perhaps be zapped with lasers... I have been told I have cataracts, but that they are not at a stage to be treated. ???!!! (Not "ripe"??!!)
I did YAG laser for both eyes after sudden outburst of them. Both eyes were flooded with debris and big chunks and cobwebs. Took me 50 sessions (each eye) to cleanup to decent state. Fixed even small ones with different lenses and they made those floaters shift to a better position. No side effects 5 years later. Thank you, it was very interesting to hear about emerging researches.
I had YAG performed after cataract surgery. That caused massive floaters. Then in the other eye, I had a hemorrhage in the retina and was left with more massive floaters. None of my eye Drs have offered any solutions other than “you’ll get used to them”.
ive been seeing flashes for years and just had my eyes examined recently. doc says everything looks great. vision is 20/20 and photos of the back of the eye are free of any concern. i usually see the flashes only when its really dark and seems to be more when the room goes from dark to bright to dark; like turning the lights on in the night to use the bathroom then off to go back to bed. I use to think the flashes were just the cars driving behind my house as their headlights were painting light on the wall and ceiling in my room but then I moved 6 years ago and my bedroom is completely black at night so its really hard to tell just how long ive had this for... maybe 10+ years! wish it would go away, its pretty distracting to sleep often
I experience the same symptoms as you describe. If I shut the light down, and it gets dark, then I have white light rolling balls on the outer side and down on the eye. Sometimes I have it in an only dark room too. I have it since years and it's getting bigger. Now after viewing this video I'll go to the doctor. I do have also these floaters. @@LeckieInstallsLondon Hello, yes, my eyes are ok. Thanks for your interest. I was at the doctor and became an appointment the next day because of emergency. Normally in Germany you could wait over 3 months. The doctor said that the lightning flashes are from the vitreous body in the eye because it is active and pulls on the retina. @@MSPUKIMOLIELIEsir floaters don't just come and go with a headache afterwards. youre mistaken for something else such as auras.

I hope you have seen an ophthalmologist by now. But if not and you are still seeing flashes, get to one asap. You could be having retina tear. It happened to me. It happened to me during the covid lockdown so I couldn't find a retina specialist and lost part of my vision due to the delay of several months.
How's your eyes?
Cheers

Drinking that much is a myth. The rule is to get that much fluid *total*, including what you get in food.
I had floaters for almost 3 years, and I’m getting used to it. Thanks for this wide information about floaters. Not ready for surgery.
I didn't take any pineapple , supplement or anything on purpose, just a healthy diet changes and it is gone after couple of years
100% accurate on the anxiety. I have a pretty extreme case of myopia that is congenital (17.50-). My anxiety makes me hyper focused on my floaters.
I'm 81 had eye floaters all my life since a kid sometimes small sometimes big 🙃 I was a vitamin freak all my life so that didn't change or stop them 🙃 to me just part of life , I notice them most coming from dark to lite
Had you used papaya or the pineapple bromelain supplement?
Seriously.

I have been using Virtuous Health for almost a month. I am more comfortable, my eyesight has improved, and floaters are getting less aggressive.
Diana what is virtuous health?
@Maria Danezis isn't it nice when people don't reply?!
Virtuous?🤣

Very informative. I've had them since my early 20s and am now in my late 50s. They can be very annoying at times. I had the flashes of light and new floaters that looked like an octopus squiring ink in my eye! Rushed to the Dr. and all was fine. My Dr. explained what happened but hearing it again when I wasn't freaking out was so helpful.
Did it get worse as you aged?
"I’d explain that I could see individual cells, alone, or in clusters, in chains"
I think I can relate to this, however, perhaps it could just be the shape and pattern of them?
omg. this was terrifying to read. 😢 everyone else's posts i have so far gave me relief that I would wait a day or two since seeing this floater. now I am terrified.
😊
Holy shit I thought i was crazy for saying i can see cells and the nucleus inside it
@@JennHayden I just saw this…no no…I’m so sorry, don’t be terrified.
Me, too. I started noticing my floaters when I was 12. Drinking 7 to 8 cups of water per day helps a lot. It's worse when I'm dehydrated.
I removed my floaters without surgery just changing my diet to low carb and intermittent fasting. I had really big ones and it is all gone now except for a really light one that I have to purposely look for!
You cur your floaters 💯

@@666sixsix-vv6rt I also had more issues when I was not getting enough sunlight, or when I was taking herbal tincture (Banderol and Samento), it seems some medicine or antibiotics can also create these issues when taken over a long time. Infrared therapy or sunlight seems to work great. Overall I view floaters as a sign of inflammation
😢😢😢
How long did it take?
Taking too much B1 can deplete other b vitamins, so it’s important to keep an eye on that w/ a nutritionists or functional medicine doc.
thanks. were your floaters transparent

Do you get the transparent "bateria" looking floaters or do you mean the dark, stringy, shadowy ones?

There is a connection between migraine and noticability of floaters. In some people persistence of vision changes in the hours before and days following a migrain. This affects how well the brain ignores them. You can find you're much more sensitive to flicker or movement, so its almost certain that they don't change, they are just more apparent.
You are totally right, i just had 4 migraines with aura last week, I started to see my floaters more and more, its really very annoying.
I have had similar experiences with retinal tears... I've had lots of floaters ever since. This is so annoying.
@@d1o2n4 I know mine are a lot worse after a bad night of sleep, think it increases eye fatigue, worse than if I'm dehydrated.

Thank you, Mello!!! Really appreciate you. 👍👍🙌🙏🙏

This happened to me recently. I had surgery to repair and reattach my retina 11 days ago. It’s healing well but my vision is still blurry.
Take NAC

@@chrismersits3504 that’s what I do when focusing on front sights of reticles. PITA nonetheless. I’m going to try that supplement mentioned.

Thank you!

I was so lucky that I mentioned the shadow and that the tear was developing so slowly that surgery could save me from losing my right eye.
how can you see a dark part in your eye when closing your eyes when it's a dark?
(but I have had a few patients where it was so bad they needed surgery to remove them)
Me too, almost like flies buzzing around my head, very distracting.
I have the thread-like floaters. But more annoying are translucent glob-like floaters that blur my vision as they float by. Can anything be done about these?
I have these also. Almost like a veil floating from one side to the other. Very annoying. They developed after laser to remove scar tissue.

PS. Most B vitamin it's easier to supplement than to pay for hundreds in testing.

you give me hope bc im having all these symptoms including the new one about a dark shadow in your peripheral vison and ive been trying to get an appointment with an eye doctor for 6 months. the ones that specialize in this don't accept my insurance and the ones that do accept my insurance dont specialize in this. what a mess.
How long did they last
@@mommysytmom9537 I had the floaters for years but they got bigger 2-3 years before I had the episode.
I live in Japan and I am still young, but I have been suffering from physiological flying mosquitosis since last year. It's a tough daily life, but your comment gave me some courage. I have tried bromelain and will try to take it as well as others! Thank you very much!

Great vid, I’ve had floaters for 20+ years. Apparently they aren’t that bad and transparent. My doc can’t see them at all and nothing on the images. Only happen outside on white or green backgrounds and don’t bother me in everyday life.
Thank you! Glad you are not too symptomatic
Thank you!
*Really? Can i trust you? Also howmany floaters you had and in both eyes or only one eye?*
@@messienthusiast7053Just try it for yourself no harm. If you feel your eye getting irritated just stop applying it. Also do not directly put it inside your eye as this will cause discomfort for sure.
@@hoodgamer9733 Bro just answer my question? How much floaters did you have? And now zero floaters?
Thanks for info! I got vit floaters from a concussion a year ago. For a few months, they were darker, that worried me, so I saw 2 ophthalmologists who assured me they should fade within 2 years. They now have, and because of neural adaption, they are insignificant in my life.
During Canadian winter. When snow is everywhere, floaters are terrible. I see them everywhere on the snow. It’s hellish. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

Celiac and autoimmune thyroid disease are commonly found together. I hope you are being tested regularly for the Full Celiac panel
I use fresh pineapple and it gets rid of floaters for about 2-3 weeks. Easy.
Thank you!!
Rebecca, how wonderful it would be if you would return in the future and comment on the effectiveness of the treatment.
Of course, right after I wrote this you said exactly my point about screens and skies at 26:45
👏👏👏👏Well done and thanks for a deep dive into this.
@@sharon94503 It's been 13 years as well, and I'm scared every time. It often happened to me when I was stressed, busy looking at the computer and eating takeaway. After having a problem with my retina, I started going to the eye doctor every time for retinal check up. I'm worried they might be related.
I tried the Vitreous Health supplement for 3 months , it didn't help, my floaters actually worsened. I'm now scheduled for yag laser treatment.

Yep only problems since cataract surgery.
Mine started in my teens too after truma followed by nervous n stomach issues too
How did u fix ur stomach n nerves problems?
@@rosepalmer3525 Honestly... the biggest help seems to be (as of lately) avoiding seed oils. It took a few years of supplementation (multivitamins, OM mushroom 10-in-1, CBD, lots of turmeric ginger). It wasn't until I really started cutting out processed foods that my body began to heal. Even now, I slip up around once or twice a week, but it's noticeably better. My migraines are down 95%, stomach pains down 80%, energy back up to a semi normal level.
This happened after I had hpylori. I did all Supplements And got rid of hpylori the Dr medicine was horrible with side effects.
@Rose Palmer digestive enzymes, ginger tea, herbs tea for cleaning the lymphatic system and kidneys, fasting. Try to eat healthy.. allot of berries, pineapples, grapes. I just started taking vitamine b1 it benefits the central nervous system. Good luck
I first had floaters immediately after cateract removal, at age 87. Fortunat ely, they don't appear often. I find that eating pineapple help. Thanks for your videos Doc.
@@LPS-mh8kx sorry to hear about that. Had to look for a Dr too for a while. Was told the same thing at first.
How old are you?

ive been seeing flashes for years and just had my eyes examined recently. doc says everything looks great. vision is 20/20 and photos of the back of the eye are free of any concern. i usually see the flashes only when its really dark and seems to be more when the room goes from dark to bright to dark; like turning the lights on in the night to use the bathroom then off to go back to bed.
This is normal I think
