  • Hey Hapawerks Family!
    I wanted to take a little bit of a different approach with this video. Please bear with me as I know the video is a bit longer but there is a lot to be explained about the paint matching process.
    I also had to stretch filming over multiple days which made editing much more difficult.
    I do believe that if you take your time you can do a better job than some paint shops I have seen. I also added some footage of the STI Side skirts that I ordered from Ebay and painted in Crystal Black Silica. They came out amazing!
    As seen in the last shots the vehicle is back to stock and has been sold to a local dealership. It was a great journey and I did not sell it because I didn't like it. I will possibly explain in the next video.

    It’s getting “fuzzy” because the friction from the orbital sander is melting the plastic and then it’s cooling and hardening. As someone else said, high-build primer and sand and repeat, then paint and clear with high grit sanding between coats. It’s almost impossible to sand that plastic cleanly and evenly, especially with a power sander.

    If using paint with flex agents in them, do you need to sand down the textured surface or the arch molding?

  • @thegeneraljoe67

    Nice Job & Looks Great..
    Wondering if anyone has tried:
    1st, using 400 grit light sanding but not removing texture
    2nd- Apply adhesion promoter 3rd, Apply a few coats of HI Build primer
    4th, Apply color base coat
    5th Apply 2k clear
    Ive always been taught to use adhesion promoter when painting plastics.
    *Unsure if this would take care of covering texture or not?

    How long did you let the paint dry between the coats? Thank you so much for the step by step process!

    Hi, Thanks for the Video. Could you let us know why you sold the VB? or maybe just a short video on your experience? Im slowing leaning towards the VB, your info would help! Not too excited to spend this kind of money if I am going to be better of keeping my 2019?

  • @louisgonzalez803

    I haven’t seen you use adhesion promoter unless it’s in your primer? And sanding the texture off is the best way . Great job looks good

    • @Hapawerks
      @Hapawerks  Год назад +1

      Hey Louis, since the primer has a minimal texture on it I never had problems with paint peeling. I’ve only used adhesion promoter on parts that aren’t prepped properly. Not a bad added step though.

    do you have to sand it or will it come out fine just leaving the texture

    • @Hapawerks
      @Hapawerks  9 месяцев назад

      Leaving the texture you will end up with that same texture in your finished product. That's up to you to decide if you're wanting that. Personally I wanted it smooth.

    @hapawerks How many cans did you use on the sides? Meaning primer and base and clear?

    • @Hapawerks
      @Hapawerks  Год назад

      You're going to have to elaborate on your question @jimmijames23. Sides meaning just the sideskirts? the video also talks about how many cans I used and how much I would estimate for a whole car. As a rule of thumb, a can a part is about right give or take.

      @@JimmiJames23 I'll admit that's a bit outside of my element but I would expect that the employees at the paint shop would be able to give you advice on that. I believe they can either mix the pearls into the basecoat or supply you with the necessary paints. sorry I couldn't help more.

    Almost painful to watch.
    Pro-tip “high build primer”
    First
    barely scuff the piece with 180
    then wipe down the piece with mineral spirits ..then give it 2-3 coats of high build primer and the honey comb will be gone!
    Now sand and paint.
    Don’t waste time actually sanding your plastic down. Sand primer. 👍🏼🤷🏼‍♂️
    I still love you tho. 😂

    • @Hapawerks
      @Hapawerks  Год назад

      Fantastic advice! I don't think the pro shop that did my bumper used highbuild primer without sanding down the texture first. I'm sure there's better ways to do this but I was very happy with my results.

    • @Hapawerks

      Judging by the responses some people have done that. I don't like using filler too much as when materials expand and contract sometimes it can cause cracking.
