    Remember to have a slight slope going down away from the house so that rain doesn’t collect going into the house. ❤️

      Yup good tip and because it's a older building maybe it's smart to also make sure the rest of the building gets a bit of a slope away from the house. We had the same problem in our house, moisture in the lower part of the outside wall ( and mold). We made a "water drain"away from the house and the moist problems were finally solved. 👍👊😉

      Hi guys, I'm afraid that the beautiful path you made next to the barn will be filled with rainwater from the roof. It seems to me that a channel should be prepared to keep the water away from the entrance and the pits where you put the rocks and white gravel.

    Guys, can I give you a tip. Don't forget to remind us to like and subscribe to your channel at the end of the video. When you're saying this, it's a reminder for us to do this. As it is, you end the video really quickly. One of the best RUclipsrs I've seen doing this is Matt Armstrong. Do a quick search for him and then fast forward to the end and see how he does it. You'll get a lot more likes as I think you're missing out on loads of them. By the time I remember, an advert appears and I can't be bothered to watch it to go back and like the video x

    The log store does it really need a shelf, as you can stack the logs on top of each other.
    The roof, can't you leave it and clad (like you do with lift conversions)it so it's insulated and then use lightweight tiles on top.
    How's your residency going?

    • @theoriginhomestead
      @theoriginhomestead  7 месяцев назад +1

      Its too separate different types of kindling you don't just have one type of log when making a fire. We could do and that was the plan but for cheaper we can take of fand redoo with something better all will make sense :) ❤

  • @jaseydalts

    does it not look like the middle of the patio is the middle, because you did the middle of the stone on the bottom, not the middle of the doorway, and its sticks out at the ends at different lengths? 🤔😂 I did wonder if you'd change the barn roof, it doesn't look made to last. The pathway is an inspired idea, hard work with grreat results. looking forward to the secret shist project, sounds like you have a lot of plans 👍

    Hi Laura and Dan my sweet friends! I love the changes in you both. The confidence and surety in all you do and how beautiful your projects turn out is a huge blessing. Praise The Lord! Woot! The walkway and soon to be little patio look so lovely. To repurpose the stone was a great idea and keeps the land whole. Dan's log holder is so great. The area keeps getting homier and homier with every passing day. The whole lock and unlock moment had me giggling. I am happy you figured it out. Oooo what a teaser on the barn roof and repurposing it. I cannot wait to see it! I am happy you change up the work you do and not get bogged down in pointing. That is a very wise choice! I know one day, as you sit inside your home, you will reminisce about all those days and moments. The stories you will tell will be captivating. You are hard workers, blessed teachers, and givers of hope and healing. God bless you both! So much love and love in Christ! ~John
    Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV
    "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."
    Psalm 32:8 NKJV
    "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye."

    Ok being an ideas person! 😅 I had a great thought. How about building a verandah/patio across the front of your home as a second living area in summer. You could grow hops or grapes for shading in the summer months over a pergola have a lovely outdoor furniture set and a baby Q barbecue for cooking a roast or pizza in. 😊

      @theoriginhomestead  7 месяцев назад +1

      So lovely to hear from you and That sounds like an amazing idea. We will most certainty do something like that in the future but for now just want something little so not stepping on the dirt all the time and dragging muck in :) xxxx

      The hops takes a few years to make a good cover but looks spectacular and loves the heat. I’ve done it on our west side on the carport as it it searingly hot generally at this time of year. Alas not much of a summer this year. I’ve never seen green in Central Victoria in February in Australia.

      PPS a thyme ground cover around your stones would be a lovely quick scented option.

    Laura , did you ever master jam making. , as l think it was you that tried last year. , ? For a kg of fruit , it takes a kg of white sugar , cut the fruit into small bits cover with water add three tablespoons of citric acid , and leave over night to soak and draw all the pectin out of the fruit .in the morning, boil the fruit till soft. , remove from the heat and stir in the sugar till dissolved .Return to the stove , bring to boil stir , after a while test a spoonful on a cold plate to see if it is at setting point. , then prepare the jars , and stir. , figs are so great at setting well. , enjoy. , once you start , you won’t stop making jam. , 😊

    This week’s update is just what’s required, the many jobs that are required to maintain and upgrade the homestead at its best. Your skills and confidence in front of the camera have increased 10 fold. If affordable some solar panels on the barn/home roof would be very worth while! However, I would suggest a set of directional panels that you can move throughout the day and tracks the sun for max benefit. ‘Keep the faith” and continue to look after each other.

    • @theoriginhomestead
      @theoriginhomestead  7 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks for that so nice of you too say and yes solar panels are a must. We agree we are going to make a moveable system once we are at that point. We have learned that the roof of the barn is not the best for this and something on the ground much better we can move xxx sending you lots of love

    no soy un entendido en el tema,pero creo que deberíais rebajar el nivel de la tierra alreddedor de la casa para que la casa esté más alta y el agua no se acumule en la base de las paredes.tambien creo que es importante hacer un canalón alrededor de las paredes y impermeabilizar la base de las mismas para no tener problemas de humedad en el futuro

    Nice to finally get keys to your own palace (when it’s finished) you’ll soon be putting your bed in that there home your making for yourselves.
    Just a thought have you checked the fireplace works OK and the chimney if not you should lite a fire and put some damp leaves on it you’ll be able to check that the cmoke is exiting your chimney correctly and if there’s any leaks back into the barn and it would be great to check it before removing the tin roof as you may need to work up on the roof. Was nice to see you ticking a few smaller jobs off the list while still doing the pointing. You’ll soon have a bed in that there barn and you’ll be able to lock the door when you go places magic it’s all coming together. Till next week. Xx
