Sabaton - The End of the War to End All Wars (Lyrics English & Deutsch)

- Опубликовано: 5 окт 2024
- On 11 November 1918 the Armistice of Compiègne ended the First World War, then known as the "Great War" or the "War to end War". In the four years of war since 1914, 17 million people from 40 states had lost their lives, including 8 million civilians. All continental empires of Europe had fallen, namely Imperial Germany, Russia, Austria-Hungary and the Ottoman Empire (Turkey).
While even after the war's end countless casualties of famine, pandemics and battlefield injuries were to be mourned, new forms of political extremism took root in many places, such as Italian Fascism or National Socialism in the German-speaking world, thus laying the foundation for an even deadlier conflict, two decades later.
CAUTION!
I won't tolerate any racist, discriminatory or in any other form inappropriate comments! This song neither glorifies war, nor National Socialism, but should be considered as a historical work.
"No, we don't glorify anything, we just tell stories about things that have happened." (Rikard Sundén, founding member of Sabaton)

----------

I can’t remember the name of the weapon, but it was basucally a gaint flamethrower. Believe it was made by the British and used in the battle of the Somme.
Watched a Time Team episode where they located and excavated one that was incomplete and abandoned due to a tunnel collapse. Very interesting.
ANYWAYS
In the clip in the trailer, they showed that weapon sweeping across the screen.
The contrast was very high so the background of the trenches was hard to see. So at first when you saw the shot you would see a fire breathing dragon. Then your eye would process the background.
It was a only 5 seconds long but it was framed BEAUTIFULLY.
You saw that weapon spraying fire and you saw Smaug.
Really regret that I didn’t watch the movie...
In addition to everything said so far, Tolkien's experience in Somme resulted in the Dead Marshes. Many men died being trampled and drowned in waist deep mud only to resurface once stepped upon.

@@akrybion fun fact, the Spanish flu was made for the war. It somehow got out ( dont remember how) before the cure was ready.(incase their own troops got it) it was meant to infect the soldiers and civilians of the enemy and force them to surrender for the cure.

I think the cinematography tops anything you've put out so far. Favorite part is that it wasn't just the British soldiers always being shown, and that life sucked for German grunts as well. They weren't the bad guys the first time, everyone was squatting in shit together.
viperblitz11 They were never the bad guys.
@@diro5910 The individuals, maybe not. But the soldiers of the 3rd Reich, even those not by their own volition, are still complicit in supporting evil. That's not to say that their sacrifices should be ignored or that they didn't fight first and foremost for their country, just that in the wider context their intentions come second to the intentions of the regime which decides how they're used. But this song takes place during the time of the 2nd Reich, so I don't think this debate has a place here.
viperblitz11 Both allies and axis were very shitty in WW2. Official history only tells how great the allies were and how bad the axis was. Truth is, both did horrendous things. Both sides committed genocide, un discriminate bombings, rape, chemical warfare, etc... War is hell. There are no “good” sides in war.
@@diro5910 the allies are only the good ones because the won the war. What about Soviet unions attrocities. Most eastern Europeans hate the Soviets far more than the Germans. And yet, the Soviets won the war so hardy anyone talks about their bad side.

Russian, German, American, British, Indian, Australian, Turkish, french,Italy , Bulgarian, Romanian , Canada. And the world along with it.
No matter your side, your empire, your home, countless lives we're lost, for a cause that would never be achieved as far as the eye can see. No matter your race. Ethnic group, millions of deaths.
Millions of lives lost forever. Never to been seen except on the tombstone and dirt and soil the lie upon and in. God bless us all for how lucky we are in the age of information and most peaceful and prosperous age.
You may beg to differ but you can't change one fact. Our boys don't fight in trenches with diseases and many other things. The barbed wired. The thousands of countless deaths just to gain less than a mile of land. Yet again. God bless all who died for a similar cause. The war to end all wars. Boys and men alike who thought they'd be back by Christmas, forever lost. Always remember. Thousands of millions of all men, woman alike.
God bless America, Great Britain, France Russia, Germany, Austria, Bulgarian, Romanian, Serbia, Italy. Faction doesn't matter. Men. Millions of them. Died in one of the most horrific 4 years war those men and boys alike will experience.
Lost in the soil and tombstones of their graves. No matter your beliefs of any kind. Everyone pays the price. Forever will they be lost to a war that was supposed to end before Christmas. To a war that was supposedly an adventure to young boys alike. "War knows no nation."
A world. ruined. By a horrible, deadly, horrific war. May we everladtingly be lucky to be alive today. God bless all Humans alike.

Mathew The Canadian It sure is the greatest!
Definitely has a bit of epic doom metal sprinkled into it.
I love the whole album but this song has a special place for me. All the men who fought and died in that war were told that they had to kill in order to make a peaceful future without wars possible. And yet, this war created the basis for WW2 leading to even more tragedy, pain and death. They fought believing in these lies and in the end contributed to the exact opposite.
In that sense, the part where Jocke sings
"November 11th settling the score [...] A new world will dawn from empires fallen, the end of the war to end wars." gets me everytime. When I first listened to it, I actually teared up. This album is a masterpiece.
