Sabaton - Winged Hussars (Lyrics English & Deutsch)

- Опубликовано: 9 сен 2016
- When at the end of the 17th century the Ottoman Empire had reached its greatest extent, the Turks under Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa Pasha tried to capture the imperial city of Vienna and thereby throw open the gateway to Central Europe. In 1683 he laid siege to the fortress with 140,000 troops, while there were only 11,000 men available for the city defense. In the following 60-days lasting siege the Turks built mines below the city walls, which they intended to bring down with explosive charges. These were on the verge of detonating, when on 11 September the Polish-German relief force arrived, with troops from the Holy Roman Empire (Austria, Bavaria, Franconia, Saxony, Swabia) and the Republic of Venice, under the leadership of Poland. The tide of battle was turned on 12 September, when the Polish King John III. Sobieski led his elite troops of the Winged Hussars (Husaria) down the Kahlenberg in the largest cavalry charge in history, battering the Ottoman elite of the Sipahi and Janissaries and entering the enemy camp.

----------

Badass Hussars are badass, however relief of Vienna wasn't even their biggest achievement.
Couple years later in 1694(The battle of Hodów), Crimean Tatars launched the biggest ever raid on our Poland land, not knowing the numbers 400 hussars were sent to defend the Hodów village against the raiders. When they arrived first thing they did was to charge tatars vanguard (700 horsemen) annihilating them totally. Then when they saw the numbers they were against( There were around 40 000 of tatars!), they didn't run for their lives, only fortified in the Hodów and were relentlessly repelling attacks, wave by wave for straight 8hours untill the bodies of the fallen made a new wall against their position. When they run out of ammo, they started to use tatars arrows as ammunition.
After 8hours when tatars couldn't breach their defence, they send polish speaking tatars to make them surrender, anwser was simple: "come and get us, if you can". Then the message arrived that whole polish army is riding at godspeed to reinforce their brothers in arms, this made tatars run away in fear acomplishing nothing.
Casualties: Polish forces: ~100 men, tatars: 1 500 - 2 000 men.
Not only they were outnumbered 100 to 1 (some sources claim that they were outnumbered even more!), but they actually won and defend the whole Poland, they were praised as gods of war and the monumets of their deed stood to this day in Hodów.

Eh, you do know that the ottomans during their conquest burned whole villages down to the ground with no survivors left alive? So I wouldn't really call them nice people back then. Then again, I agree, we Austrians were responsible for a lot of shit. Honestly, the best thing that could have happened to us and those around us was that our empire crumbled to dust after the first world war. We were never really that good in fighting anyways, we barely won any wars without the help from others, so becoming small enough that we don't matter anymore was probably best for us and everyone else.
Being American I'm not privied to history of the rest of the world. Never imagined I'd learn about a triumphant piece of Polish history from a metal band...

Funnily enough, even though Poland and Lithuania saved their asses, Prussia, Austria, and basically every other European nation aside from the Ottomans cut up Poland. I've heard that some Polish soldiers actually travelled to the Ottomans to serve in the military.
I think that's a different time period, winged hussars were over a course of 200 or so years.
Yeah, that was after the death of Jan. Jan was the last Polish king, and after him it was pretty much proto-EU proxies put into the throne, some from Saxony, some from Austria, etc. Poland was cut up in Partitions during Catherine the Great's time, during the era of Poland's democratic elections in which there was a purge of corruption in the government. Europe did not like that, so Austria, Prussia, and Russia took it to pieces.
Unfortunately, some german politicians are again "concerned" about the state of polish democracy.
soldiers of lithauania did not fought at vienna
White Moon, Lithuanian and Polish troops fought together, we were a (mostly) united country. Yes, the general was Polish and the Hussars are generally associated with Poland, but Lithuanian men may have been trained to be Hussars. Sadly, I feel Lithuania is often shoved to the side whenever the Commonwealth is discussed. We had our own amazing cavalry (Mounted Tatars with bows, similar to Hussars yet are lightly armored and favor speed and tactics over brute force and flashiness) not only that, but we held the first king of the Commonwealth. Lithuania also had (From what I've heard) better musket/ranged infantry. Aside from military, Lithuania also was far more stable than Poland, especially later on.
I am totally fascinated with the Winged Hussars.

Vienna: We are, in fact, outnumbered.
John lll Sobieski: Not for much longer.
Vienna: What does that mean?
John lll Sobieski: It means, people of Vienna, you should NEVER underestimate Polands.
THEN THE WINGED HUSSARS ARIVED!
Winged hussars
They protec
They attac
But most importantly
They take vienna bac
Historical Irony: Warsaw helped Vienna from the Ottomans. A few centuries later, Vienna helped Berlin in wiping out Warsaw
Austria then splitted the region with Germany and Russia
pablo giustiniani yeah and that was just a century or so after
Austraia did most of the work in the battle, the polish just captured a town and made a cavalry charge while the Austrians held Vienna even tho outnumbered 15:1 while their relief army was capturing town after town and attacked the ottonman last defenses
@poop4263 I think he's not talking about World War 2, he's talking about when the Austrians, Germans/Prussians (cant remember cause I never start in later EU4 dates ;) ) and the Russians attacked and split Poland-Lithuania between them hence why it wasn't a country in WW1.
Hahahaha 😂😂😂
Real world battle of Pelennor Fields, though Winged Hussars are more badass than the Rohan riders.
Yeah!
After study this fact(battle) I'm thinking "this battle is so much badass than any other, be real, or fantasy" !
The Winged Hussars are roughly 1000% more badass than The Rohan Riders.
+TheAKgunner
The Winged Hussars are more badass than Rohan, the PEOPLE OF VIENNA are 10000% more badass than Gondor, who just cry, run and in the first close combat loose everything.
Have you seen Swan Knights? Ghey are equally badass as the Winged Hussars.
hussars never really used wings. that makes them much less badass
I was about to enjoy some pierogi but... *THEN THE WINGED HUSSARS ARRIVED!!!*
I am proud to be half Polish, long live Poland!!!
"Storm clouds, fire and steel! Death from above we made the enemy kneel!
"Fighting, power and grace! Death from above it's ab army of wings!"
The Winged Hussars arrived 335 years ago today.
“We remember, in September the night Vienna was freed! We made the enemy bleed, AND THE WINGED HUSSARS ARRIVED!”
True That.
Actualized: 340 years after
Today in 1683, the winged hussars saved Europe, Christianity, and western civilization; Thanks from America!
Could have left christianity to die but otherwise they did a nice job.
ah, jokes aside, winged hussars are cool troops, I wonder how strong they were in battle compared to knights and the sort.
they usually had a pistol or carbine ... as a sidearm ... so better ;9
XtaticApollo Hahahahahaha you're really saying w'eve 'removed christianity' in goddamn europe? Are you stupid? Nah, screw it, I'm not going to follow your irrational hate and stupid mentality, as respect to Piscator (uploader, read his description).
Have fun with that little religion of yours. Cheers.
XtaticApollo I made a joke. I do hate it, but I wasn't hating on it, I was in jest.
Also you're not being very christian are you? Jesus said "turn the other cheek" but you're here insulting me and being disrespectful. Jesus wouldn't approve that, would he? (Honest question).
KeignarGaming "Turn the other cheek" is about not responding to evil in our individual relations. You are right, though. Christ taught strict non-violence but Christian theologians realized it wasn't possible or practical to remain neutral or peaceful with evil people who want to wipe you out. But you will notice that the most fundamentalist and radical Christians are strictly pacifist, Mennonites, Anabaptists, Amish they refuse to even use guns or join police forces.
Would be great if the winged hussars helped Europe again
One day they will! Trust me!

When is it not
Greetings from Turkey. Maybe they did not have such goals, but I think Winged Hussars did a good thing in history. They opened the door to the enlightened world. It would not be nice for my ancestors to take over Europe when full enlightenment started in Europe. If Ottomans conquered Viennqa, there was no city to resist much in Europe and the dark age would continue in Europe for a while. Greetings to the Renaissance and Reform pioneers :)
This man gets it.
this is exactly what i am thinking. as a turkish man i dont even like ottoman because they had a mindset just like medieval europeans. ignorant people in turkey think that ottomans was awesome in everyway... so stupid.
@@expLos1vEn As a Pole i am sad about one thing. FFS we helped Germans? They could get their asses kicked by you face to face at least to the Frankfurt or further. After that we should settle our thing between us. Maybe even some alliance... I know it is unrealistic, just dreaming. Ehhh

The Rohirrim charge is based on the Vienna charge.
