The US is scared to what extent the Chinese would allow the US to be troublemakers in the Philippines and in Taiwan , for the US need to continue to show that the US is strong ...so the visit to China .
At this point in time, the US does not want China to act that can embarrass the US before the election .. while at the same time, it can not tell Taiwan and the Philippines not to act ..
Because of this contradiction the trip is necessary...To know yourself and to know your enemy ...TRULY THE ENEMY IS REALLY STRONG ...THE WORDS USED ARE TRULY DIRECT AND BLUNT...
So the trip does have its value ...

@@brianlowe3529 The Permanent Arbitration Court(PAC) is not a United Nation Body so it has no legal jurisdiction whatsoever. If I am not mistaken, it did not rule in favor or against any country. It merely ruled on whether those islets are permanent structure qualified under UNCLOS. Regardless, its decision is null and void as the pre-requisite of Arbitration is both party must agree to it. China did not and was never represented at the Arbitration. This was a unilateral decision tailored made for a geo-political agenda....
Bringing the disputes to the UN will only make the Philippines look stupid. For a start, this dispute is trivial as compared to more pressing issues the UN is faced with today. It will be "still-born. ." The Marcos government knows the best way to resolve this dispute is bi-lateral between parties to the disputes and if not possible between ASEAN and China...By bringing foreign powers into this dispute, the Philippines has already lost the battle and trust of ASEAN member countries...That is why is it not getting the support of ASEAN...
