If you guys would show the same compassion for human beings that you show for this octopus maybe this world would be a better place! The guy on the kayak is pretty awesome and the footage is remarkable! I go kayaking all the time and if this were me, guess what, I'd be having a great ceviche de pulpo with my family and loving every minute of it! Lol
+Music for Meditation & Relaxation It true, we've destroyed countless habitats, ruined the atmosphere, killed thousands of species and are currently destroying the amazing and beautiful Amazon forest. The world WOULD be better off without us.
+Ruben Alvarez -There is nothing compassionate about eating this Octopus. If this were a person who relied on fishing to feed himself and his family that would be a different story. But anyone who can afford Kayaking and all the equipment involved obviously doesn't need to kill this animal to survive. Octopuses are considered the smartest sea life right next to Dolphins. They can do amazing things and their thinking & problem solving capabilities are beyond belief. It would have been nice if these guys had just released it to show their compassion. And by the way..if there is a law that you can catch one octopus a day in this region..it is an incredibly stupid law and will decimate the octopus population in no time..just like other dumb laws have allowed the decimation of crabs in other US regions. Just because you hook it..doesn't mean you have to eat it guys. =/

I honestly respect your input and feel that different people find they are attached to different things and go out their way to protect those things whole heartedly. Much respect for any body that does that. However, if you ever seen the way my 5 year old daughter lights up when there's octopus being served in any dish, you'd see how extremely easy it would be for a guy like me to toss that yummy blessing into an ice chest and serve that 8 legged friend, with a special thanks to everyone's God, with the most amazing combinations of cucumber, tomatoes and avacado to a beautiful little girl with an amazing smile!
Hey RUclips, I'm the guy catching the octopus in the video. Amazing how much controversy comes from harvesting food from the earth. So just a comment. I love this world we live in. And being a part of this world, I think there's a few things that we have to come to grips with. Number one is that we all have to eat and we have to kill survive. No two ways about it. Some people like to have someone do the work for them and some like to do it themselves. Obviously, I like to do it myself. I do it because I want to eat the cleanest most sustainable meals, as much of the time, as I can. Knowing that my nutrition comes from a wild animal that had a chance to live freely and comes from a healthy species in the area I harvested it from, makes me happy. When I brought up this octopus I knew, that in this area, the Giant Pacific Octopus numbers were not only good but as healthy as they've been on record. That means taking from this stock was a sustainable choice. Also this octopus was not a juvenile and had lived a free life. This octopus was delicious and made many fantastic meals for myself, friends, and family. We all have to make choices about how to survive and this is just mine.
" Number one is that we all have to eat and we have to kill survive. " - we don't, thousands of vegetarians have proven you to be wrong with this statement. Apart from that, do what you wanna do and just accept that your actions are disgusting to a lot of people out there.
***** sorry, i wasn't aware that the apple tree would die when i took the fruit.. oh, and please don't get me wrong, i'm no vegetarian right now, just used to be when i was a kid.. all i'm saying is that your reasoning doesn't work out too well.
I was so amazed to the unique octopus sitting there. I’m not so familiar with 🐙 octopi. I would barely think that an octopus would even come up to the surface. I am happy for your lucky find. That is probably a once in a lifetime chance to find an octopus. BTW, whoever is scrolling through the comments, have a nice and happy day/night!
No wonder the phrase 'bad ass' is so popular with the American underclass , it really is inspired. It also makes it's user seem wonderfully intelligent. Perhaps they could try to combine it with 'awesome' for a truly stunning effect.
If you want to criticise another's language usage, it's usually a good idea to ensure one's own language is faultless (whether spoken or written). To that end may I respectfully recommend a refresher course in the use of the apostrophe and the spacing required when using a comma in sentence formation.
Shan W Obviously you are entirely correct Shan, and it is something that frequently irritates me. Needless (hopefully) to say, it was a typographical error and certainly not due to ignorance. I'm most grateful for your comment, and hope it helps others who may be unclear about that particular rule of punctuation, which is so frequently flouted (NOT 'flaunted' though!). For some reason unknown to me, misuse of this lovely language irks me terribly, and whilst I understand these comments aren't meant to be great works of literacy, it still causes me a feeling akin to physical pain trying to read comments that are crudely constructed, even if the writer is a 'badass' type of skateboarder. I hope readers have enjoyed my sarcasm regarding that appalling vandalism of our beloved language. It really is quite grotesque, and if, as I suggest, people combine it with the excessively overused 'awesome' then we have a recipe for an outbreak of word poisoning. It's great to know there is a fellow sufferer out there, albeit one who found it necessary to correct my apparent ignorance. I'd certainly rather that than that nobody cared. Awesome regards.
An apt analogy, right up until you hook something large/strong enough to pull you out of the boat. Then it's quite exciting, especially when you know you're going to eat well that night (provided you didn't actually fall out of the boat).
SurrealSymbiont I don't saying that everyone should eat same food according to someone but some creatures are finishing because of the human' hobbies! Sometimes we should stop our selves!
Mrzombiegummybear i in all honesty i have been kayaking before but never fished while doing it i would have thrown the rod towards my brother and started paddling if he said it was an octopus...because i love love love the sea but as soon as i see something besides a school of small fish or small jellys it freaks me out idk why it just does but if i heard it was a dolphin id jump in and free it lol

Rule #1 (when fishing) - fish from shore, dock or pier - but when you can't, make sure you fish from a vessel LARGER than the critter from below that you are catching, or that might come and visit you (even if you didn't plan on catching him). Lot to be said for wire cutters, in a moment like that.
hehe gotta agree :) i've never caught a octopus but it seemed alittle to calm imo knowing from most fish i would expect it too atleast put up a fight :P
Hey Rawkfish, loved your video, I find these creatures awesome. I've always been told that these creatures only live in salt water; but it seems there are some exceptions that are recently discovered as some kind of mutants to fresh water. Tell me was this a lake/river of fresh or salt water and where was it at ?
Am I the only one who realizes that they never killed the thing? Or that people go fishing for FISH and an octopus grabbed the lure instead? Oh yeah, probably not. Only maybe 30% of the people who came here Actually go fishing and have experience with animals other than a pet or watching animal planet. If you don't know ANYTHING about fishing at all....have a seat
Yeah they did kill it. Octopus is delicious, although I prefer the babies. When you "keep and enjoy" a catch when fishing, that means you kill and eat it. Don't you fish?
I read description after I watched the video. I assumed they cut the line and let it go. I don't eat any weird seafood like squid or octopus. They make good bait though
J Dub and I prefer catch and release over catching and eating 90% of the time. If it doesn't go in the aquarium, it goes back in the water where I got it from
Fair enough, and I agree. That said, trying to release a solid-hooked giant pacific octo in a way where it will survive (like as in not cutting the line) while kayak fishing would SUCK, and might even get you hurt. Best option is to keep and eat the delicious beast!
Jeremiah Giles Octopus boiled and then putted in the oven with some chopped onions and some potatoes covered with a generous portion of Olive oil it is very good ;)
I only thing I see on the end of that line is calamari. Octopus legs, yum, especially chopped, skewered and cooked over an open fire, braised with sauce. What am I saying?? LOL. What happened to the octopus? Did you let him go or did you find him a dinner plate to sit on?
Calamari is all the same thing, be it squidie or octopi. Fried octopi legs, I want some fried octopi legs. LOL, or a bag of Lays Kettle Cooked Wasabi Ginger chips, which I heard taste like Wasabi Ginger sushi.

Christopher Vinci Ha! No! I just want no cruelty and fast death. Fishing with a hook is terrible. Sea food shoud be catched by nets. Amatour fishing with hooks is cruelty.
Poor thing got caught . Hope they figured out how to unhook or he was strong enough to break the line for itself. Beautiful, majestic, creature though. Very good video quality. I wonder how old it is .
Why in your description do you need to justify the catch. It was ONE caught. Good job to the man catching it. I hope it was as good to eat as it was to land.
I did the same thing. I was cleaning my days catch of Salmon and placed a herring on the bottom. A GPO grabbed it. No line was taken out. The rod was pulled all the way over and whatever was on the other end was heavy. It was a six footer. I had to put the Octo in the fish box to get the hook out. If you've never handled an adult Octopus, don't! Squishiest thing ever. I felt like I had to be damaging its brain.

Hard to believe these giant Octopus only have a 3 to 5 year lifespan. Growing pretty quick to get to this giant size. Talk about a Calamari feast! :)

*dabbing* *octarian pops up* HOLY Sveemo!
Cruelty. Leave it alone!
ha gaaaayyyyyyyy
they didn't catch it intentionally.
I bet you are a vegetarian...
Christopher Vinci Ha! No! I just want no cruelty and fast death. Fishing with a hook is terrible. Sea food shoud be catched by nets. Amatour fishing with hooks is cruelty.
Elercik Caught not Catched
Poor thing got caught . Hope they figured out how to unhook or he was strong enough to break the line for itself. Beautiful, majestic, creature though. Very good video quality. I wonder how old it is .
Now I wonder if octopuses are smart
Why in your description do you need to justify the catch. It was ONE caught. Good job to the man catching it. I hope it was as good to eat as it was to land.
AND THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS I DONT LIKE THE OCEAN
Me to
I have thalassophobis
Same
Well I guess you can say that SUCKED!
...I hate myself
Chris H hey m. Fhi
I felt like I had to be damaging its brain.
omg leave it aloooooooone
***** Japs eat anything lol ok crawls walks slithers raw or cooked not surprised their even known for eating n cats n dogs lol even in the states of usa lol been caught trying to serve cats n dogs lol restaurants got shut down..
***** I must have missed the bit where the animal was killed lol Did u see something i missed????
***** Other animals can and do kill and eat us.
***** Oh okay I get it now. You just have issues. Well we are done talking.
***** I anything but popped a cow but thats a good one I like that has a ring to it pop a cow haha Nah I dont bother to read the description but i have eaten Octapus and it wasnt bad either. If u cant get the hook out and u can and are aload to eat it I dont see a problem
I would have cut the line and let it go
Darnell Bryant then the octopus calls for his papa............. kraken appears
