    If you guys would show the same compassion for human beings that you show for this octopus maybe this world would be a better place! The guy on the kayak is pretty awesome and the footage is remarkable! I go kayaking all the time and if this were me, guess what, I'd be having a great ceviche de pulpo with my family and loving every minute of it! Lol

      +Music for Meditation & Relaxation It true, we've destroyed countless habitats, ruined the atmosphere, killed thousands of species and are currently destroying the amazing and beautiful Amazon forest. The world WOULD be better off without us.

      +Ruben Alvarez -There is nothing compassionate about eating this Octopus. If this were a person who relied on fishing to feed himself and his family that would be a different story. But anyone who can afford Kayaking and all the equipment involved obviously doesn't need to kill this animal to survive. Octopuses are considered the smartest sea life right next to Dolphins. They can do amazing things and their thinking & problem solving capabilities are beyond belief. It would have been nice if these guys had just released it to show their compassion. And by the way..if there is a law that you can catch one octopus a day in this region..it is an incredibly stupid law and will decimate the octopus population in no time..just like other dumb laws have allowed the decimation of crabs in other US regions. Just because you hook it..doesn't mean you have to eat it guys. =/

      Tell you what. I think that was the most intelligent response yet. I honestly respect your input and feel that different people find they are attached to different things and go out their way to protect those things whole heartedly. Much respect for any body that does that. However, if you ever seen the way my 5 year old daughter lights up when there's octopus being served in any dish, you'd see how extremely easy it would be for a guy like me to toss that yummy blessing into an ice chest and serve that 8 legged friend, with a special thanks to everyone's God, with the most amazing combinations of cucumber, tomatoes and avacado to a beautiful little girl with an amazing smile!

    Hey RUclips, I'm the guy catching the octopus in the video. Amazing how much controversy comes from harvesting food from the earth. So just a comment.
    I love this world we live in. And being a part of this world, I think there's a few things that we have to come to grips with. Number one is that we all have to eat and we have to kill survive. No two ways about it. Some people like to have someone do the work for them and some like to do it themselves. Obviously, I like to do it myself. I do it because I want to eat the cleanest most sustainable meals, as much of the time, as I can. Knowing that my nutrition comes from a wild animal that had a chance to live freely and comes from a healthy species in the area I harvested it from, makes me happy.
    When I brought up this octopus I knew, that in this area, the Giant Pacific Octopus numbers were not only good but as healthy as they've been on record. That means taking from this stock was a sustainable choice. Also this octopus was not a juvenile and had lived a free life. This octopus was delicious and made many fantastic meals for myself, friends, and family.
    We all have to make choices about how to survive and this is just mine.

      " Number one is that we all have to eat and we have to kill survive. " - we don't, thousands of vegetarians have proven you to be wrong with this statement. Apart from that, do what you wanna do and just accept that your actions are disgusting to a lot of people out there.

    I was so amazed to the unique octopus sitting there. I’m not so familiar with 🐙 octopi. I would barely think that an octopus would even come up to the surface. I am happy for your lucky find. That is probably a once in a lifetime chance to find an octopus.
    BTW, whoever is scrolling through the comments, have a nice and happy day/night!

    No wonder the phrase 'bad ass' is so popular with the American underclass , it really is inspired. It also makes it's user seem wonderfully intelligent.
    Perhaps they could try to combine it with 'awesome' for a truly stunning effect.

      If you want to criticise another's language usage, it's usually a good idea to ensure one's own language is faultless (whether spoken or written).
      To that end may I respectfully recommend a refresher course in the use of the apostrophe and the spacing required when using a comma in sentence formation.

    • @Tampo-tiger
      @Tampo-tiger 10 лет назад +7

      Shan W Obviously you are entirely correct Shan, and it is something that frequently irritates me. Needless (hopefully) to say, it was a typographical error and certainly not due to ignorance. I'm most grateful for your comment, and hope it helps others who may be unclear about that particular rule of punctuation, which is so frequently flouted (NOT 'flaunted' though!).
      For some reason unknown to me, misuse of this lovely language irks me terribly, and whilst I understand these comments aren't meant to be great works of literacy, it still causes me a feeling akin to physical pain trying to read comments that are crudely constructed, even if the writer is a 'badass' type of skateboarder.
      I hope readers have enjoyed my sarcasm regarding that appalling vandalism of our beloved language. It really is quite grotesque, and if, as I suggest, people combine it with the excessively overused 'awesome' then we have a recipe for an outbreak of word poisoning.
      It's great to know there is a fellow sufferer out there, albeit one who found it necessary to correct my apparent ignorance. I'd certainly rather that than that nobody cared. Awesome regards.

      An apt analogy, right up until you hook something large/strong enough to pull you out of the boat. Then it's quite exciting, especially when you know you're going to eat well that night (provided you didn't actually fall out of the boat).

    Rule #1 (when fishing) - fish from shore, dock or pier - but when you can't, make sure you fish from a vessel LARGER than the critter from below that you are catching, or that might come and visit you (even if you didn't plan on catching him). Lot to be said for wire cutters, in a moment like that.

      Don't worry! If u ever encounter an octopus, no matter how big it is, it won't hurt you. Octopus are curious and intelligent creatures, and their beaks won't be able to deal much damage if they bite you. They are more likely to avoid and swim away from you.

      @rifqiandicp2806 8 лет назад +4

      +elizabeth18541 no he didn't.. what do you mean? in the description, it says he didn't eat it, nor he caught it. he said he unhooked it...

    • @elizabeth18541
      @elizabeth18541 8 лет назад +8

      Rifqiandii Cp you have to read the whole description. Second Paragraph third sentence, and in the first paragraph third sentence he said he kept and enjoyed meaning he probably took it to a fish market or restaurant to be cooked and served.

    • @rifqiandicp2806
      @rifqiandicp2806 8 лет назад

    I did the same thing. I was cleaning my days catch of Salmon and placed a herring on the bottom. A GPO grabbed it. No line was taken out. The rod was pulled all the way over and whatever was on the other end was heavy. It was a six footer. I had to put the Octo in the fish box to get the hook out. If you've never handled an adult Octopus, don't! Squishiest thing ever. I felt like I had to be damaging its brain.
