    Gerry was 48 at this show and his performance is more energetic than most 25 years olds provide today. He was a driving force in their visual aesthetic on videos and it shows in live performances also.

    The guitar solo at 2:38 should put to rest two things: any argument that DEVO was just a novelty act and that G&L guitars couldn't deliver with any Gibson or Fender. DEVO is immortal.

      Agreed. I love those early G&L SC-2s. They have such a great chime to them. Everyone in Devo is a multi-instrumentalist. They write about human de-evolution and a lot of people don't get it. Point well made, DEVO. Point well made indeed.

    To this day, Bob1's guitar has a large crack in it from throwing it at the end of that solo. He showed it to an interviewer many years later, described the Lollapalooza incident, and said, "It's on RUclips." He claimed he was trying to toss it to a roadie, but as you can see from the video, he didn't look where he was throwing it, which is something he has a long history of doing after the Mr. DNA solo.

    My favorite Devo song. Everytime they do it, it's amazing! This band is so fucking great, everything from their noisy and repulsive garage blues rock of the early 70s, to their sublime Post-punk and New Wave of the late 70s and 80s, and even their new stuff is awesome. Duty, now, Spuds!

    I took my dad to see his favorite band, whom he'd never seen before, as a Father's Day gift. He thought they were done touring when one of the members passed away, which meant he would never have another chance to see them in his lifetime. Sure enough, they weren't done touring because we just saw Devo live for the fist time. Easily the best show I've ever seen, and I've seen AC/DC, Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, Steve Miller Band and Steely Dan all live.

    I was at this show. The ONLY reason I attended this show was to see Devo. They are without a doubt my favorite band ever. I was hooked when my cousin played me Uncontrollable Urge back in 1980, but Lollapalooza 96 at Irvine Meadows was my first time seeing them live. I've rectified that situation since then, attending countless live Devo performances. I even rationalized flying to New York City to see them play the Are We Not Men and Freedom Of Choice albums in their entirety.
    This set at Lollapalooza was electrifying.
    The bonus was seeing the Ramones one last time, as they played their final show later that week. I fell asleep during Soundgarden and left during Metallica, but I didn't care. I got to see Devo and the Ramones.

    Josh Freese does a good job on the drums, but he ain't no Alan Myers.

      Alan Myers was a one off. A percussive genius.

      @@terrypussypower it's true, but Josh got into drumming largely because of Alan and used to play along with him while listening to Freedom of Choice in the 80s. if anyone is worthy of drumming in his place, it's him.

      Stood more or less in front of Mr Josh Freese in Vicar St Dublin at the 2007 gig. Given the unavailability of the aforementioned Mr Myers, there could have been no better replacement.
      @joshfreese was flawless.

      I agree that he is very good...very very good in this video but not truly mind blowing Lu amazing like Alan Myers. Alan was one of a kind. But I’ve seen plenty of videos and which Josh absolutely kills it. It’s got to be tough to be an absolute human metronome for every single gig no matter how tired or how much you’ve been on the road.

    Devo: short for 'devolution', which, according to Websters means: "descent or degeneration to a lower or worse state."
