@@BoardGameBollocks I was replying to the OP. They said they play two player, and the game's a bit too open with two, so the variant - as you suggested - blocks off some spaces and makes resources more scarce.
Thanks, i bought it when i was buying board games as a maniac years ago, without a real intent to play it, not that my "mania" has cooled and after your video i might give it a chance.
An oldie but a goodie, made even better with the expansion. My expansion is in German which does my head in a bit but I did a paste-up with the English version of the cards and the game board spaces are fairly straightforward. BGG also has some neat printable player mats that help keep things organised. Not at all necessary, but nice.
My favorite board game of all time. I also have the expansion (which is impossible to get now but) - let's you play with 5 or 6 players. I love it with 5 and 6. One of my few 10's on BGG. =)
Thanks for the video. This is a classic game that we always love to play again. The draw of the Master Builders and the tough decision you need to make with them is fantastic. I don't understand why this mechanic has never been used since . (Not that I know of) And of course there is outstanding art on the board. Have you played with the expansion? Does it add to the game?
I was looking into getting this game as it’s cheap right now on US Amazon, however it seemed like the consensus was this game really needs the expansion to shine which unfortunately they haven’t reprinted.
Damn it, now I finally know why I love the look of that cathedral so much 🤣 Honestly, timeless classic even better with the expansion and the more players the merrier. To hell with AP, just drink more 🍺 and the game gets better and better 🤪
I can't play this until I read the book. And since I can't read.... Just kidding, it's cheap now so I'll probably pick it up. But honestly, how many beautiful worker placement games does one group need?
I thought the book was awful; badly written nonsense. The series was hilarious though, with Ian Mcshane hamming it up for all he's worth as the evil Waleron Bigod. The whole cast looked as though they were having fun in this one.
£13.73 for a coffee mug? But I digress. Read the novel (yawn) and played this game, when I was part of a game group that liked that sort of thing. I summon up all my inner bravery to declare…it’s not for me. And fees??
I reduced the prices to the lowest point where I don’t get anything. It’s embarrassing…which doesn’t happen very often. Free market capitalism for you 🤷
Thanks!
Cheers geez…more cocaine for me at the weekend 👍🏻
What a stinking coincidence. Not 20 minutes ago I pulled this game off my shelf for my wife and I to play tonight. It's still worth it to us.
Must be your stink, cos it certainly isn’t mine 😂
Do you play with the bgg variant, or just the bog standard rules?
I don’t use BGG

Thanks for the video, know it takes a lit of effort to produce. Have not seen this game. Hope to play it some day.

I might make it myself…scans are available. Where to source the master builder tokens though.
I Love the game. Turned me onto the hobby. I even read the book. Now i know why certain mechanisms are in the game. Great review (all of them tbh)!
Seeing this awesome painterly board is part of what got me back into board games.
@@quesoblanco444 Absolutely stunning artwork for sure!

Good vid. Really like this sort of thing - looking back at oldies. Like the book - a classic that feels a little bit dated now.

You can make it yourself. There’s scans on BGG.
Not sure if you've played World Without End (another Follett-based game), but I think it's even better. Super tight and suffocating with 4p.
I’ve not played it mate
An old favourite made even better with the expansion, which might give it that extra something you find lacking
Why Kosmos haven’t reprinted the expansion is a question I keep asking myself.
Maybe they should do a big box type thing.
To answer your question without even watching the video. Yes is the answer :)
You should watch, Paul…

This game got me into trying other worker placement games
I got rid of this at a time when it wasn't in print and people were paying way more for it then it's worth. I've never regretted it.
It’s less than £20 now which is weird.
@@BoardGameBollocks it is because they reprinted it
Funny, saw the game on your shelf in the background recently and dusted it off myself.
Word
I like lords of water deep and hoping this is a lighter version, have it just haven’t pulled it out yet
Lords of Waterdeep is a light game in itself I’d say
@@BoardGameBollocks true! Giving this a go tonight so can compare for sure.
Played it and it’s been a hit definitely something that can be pulled out at games night, compatible to Lords of Waterdeep for sure.

Great outro music! 🤘🐔
Great video!
I just got this game. Haven’t played it yet because I’m reading the book first. About 25% of the way thru.

7:55 course it's "giant" and "humongous" ;) ah brits
Classic but enjoyable game. I should blow the dust of the box and get it to the table again 🤔

Lol. Funniest 'thug' game reviewer. ever.
