UPDATE 8/31/2023 - I need to address my attempt at a little humor in this video. Some got the humor and some did not. My body is the vintage log lift. That is why I used my birth year as the date of manufacture. I apologize for the confusion.
I got that exact splitter. My hitch is not as far from the wedge as yours. My Kohler motor quit so I had to replace it, but this splitter is a tank. Great piece of equipment. I’m gonna copy your table idea!!! That’s genius.

Must be 30 years ago the Department i worked for bought one of these to supply firewood for two camping parks and five picnic parks,it worked for years with very few problems, excellent machine, did hundreds of cords of wood . The log lift we used returned to school or university every fall.

@@hkerr-di1yg Two features I really liked was the one you mentioned about how good on fuel it was and how it shifted down when it hit a tough spot , l suggested the people using it not use the automatic because I hate filling out accident reports
My splitter is 60 years newer. Yours is superior, had no idea a machine like this existed, pretty sure China doesn't either. Thank you for sharing.
These old splitters were unique for sure. They were not cheap (quality or price). I believe production stopped when hydraulic splitters got more popular and they started popping up everywhere. My father bought a single speed Lickity in 1971 for $900.00. That's nearly $6000.00 in today's economy. Thanks for the comment.
I’ve had several big box store splitters, they were okay but I finally pulled the trigger on a Wolfe ridge this year, very very very happy with it. It’s has a modern log lift. Lol
Wow, same type splitter log lift and conveyor I have. One small difference is I have a cut out area where you stand and a little bit bigger table to the right. I have an operators seat (lawn chair)in the area where you're standing Load table, sit down, split. I'm old and lazy😅

Love the splitter!! Old, but fast and efficent. I use the same tongs as you, too. Your set-up with the table is the BOMB!!!! I will do a similar set-up shortly when I get to splitting. I was not aware of the “lickity Splitter”. If I could come across one in good shape I would be tempted to buy it. Thanks you for doing a fine job.

hi there love all those old lickity splitters , they were way head of there time . about all that was out there 50 years ago , call that nice wood Cadillac wood .i think if i ever got one after watching yours i may want to but it up on blocks , the bending over would work on me to much but build back mussels.i dont have a log lift either , loved it good splitting . john

Thanks for the comment. Like a lot of older equipment, a person with a little mechanical ability could keep these things going and make a lot of repairs themselves. Wish more things were made that way today.
I have a very similar log lift. Wish I had a similar splitter.
My folks made one too! A 1956 model! Worked good for a long time, but now it needs new parts and i was told they aren't available anymore!

Just found your channel. New sub here, that is one nice vintage splitter with some great features. The pinch Pinch-a-Log is a very useful tool to have around the woodyard. 👍TCT

The hitch is out further so the wedge can be moved out to split longer logs I only do logs up to around 22", so I never move it.
The splitter is too low you're humped over all the time. I use my tractor to lift a couple rounds and park it so I can roll them onto the splitter with no lifting. And toss the pieces in a utility trailer to haul to the shed . I hardly break a sweat.
Cripes im 46 and my back couldn't handle that for more than 10 minutes. I wish lol
We have 2 Lickity Log splitters. One is not working properly. It will stay in low speed only and not return. Any odeas as to why this happens?

That's how Lickity Log Splitters were made. I've never seen another splitter have this option and it wouldn't be hard to do. The inventor of these splitters did this back in the 50s, so it could be done today. Thanks for the comment.
My log lift has one really bad arthritis and makes a lot of cracks and pops during operation !!!! LOL

Why did they stop making those splitters
I don't think a lot of people wanted to spend that kind of money. Plus, splitters started showing up everywhere for much less money. My father spent 900.00 back in 1971, which is about 6000.00 in today's economy. I just saw a few splitters at Lowes the other day for between 1500.00 and 2500.00. They won't be around in 50 years. Buy an Eastonmade, Wolfe Ridge, etc and it will last many, many years with heavy use. Thanks for leaving a comment.

The only thing wrong with that splitter is it needs to be about 6" higher that bending over all the time would kill my back
I am fortunate that my back (log lifter) has never given me problems. That doesn't mean I wouldn't enjoy a splitter that allows you to stand......😉. Thanks for the comment.
You need to find a more comfortable position to split so you're not bent over the whole time.
Not sure how a person running a Lickity Log Splitter can change their posture while splitting. I've been doing it this way for 52 years. Only remedy I can think of would be to get a different splitter😉
@hkerr-di1yg change the height of the splitter. You don't have to buy a new one
