Next time, put on the sugar and add a very little amount of rum and light that and BAAMM you do not burn your fingers!!! Or orange liquor, just make sure it is only a table spoon or two teaspoons of liqour, do not hold it in you rhand, light the liqour as it sets on the counter!!!

Great video thank you! I found that any boat cover framed with a ridge and flat roof-like areas of tarp will flap in and out all winter long and wear itself out no matter how tight you pull the tarp. And if you pull it too tight it stresses the tarp so much it'll tear and it still flaps anyway! I've had very good luck with making a reusable framework out of PVC pipe "bows" bent across the Boom or other Ridge to form a "U" shape like an old time covered wagon. The curved shape means that you don't have to pull the tarp super tight to keep it from flapping. To be really effective you do need bows every 2 or 3 feet but PVC pipe is cheap and quick to put together with fittings and it's reusable!
I absolutely love watching young Europeans in your differences from Canada, (and Canucks are fine folks too!) The differences are subtle: the food, the way you use language, and your calm, as though you have indeed lived on your continent for thousands of years. I couldn't possibly walk away from a boat like you have,I'd be paranoid the whole time,wouldn't sleep hardly,and find doing whatever it is that I'm supposed to be doing,difficult because of the distraction of worrying about my boat.
Having said all that,I'm happy to see Magic Carpet not too worse for the experience of being left.

I covered my first boat, a Venture 22, for the first winter and came back to two and a half days of scrubbing. The next year I didn't put a cover on her and when I got back in the spring she was so much cleaner than the year before. I never cover my newer E27 and have the same clean experience. Welcome back! Looking forward to new adventures and more fiddling around.

One of the advantages of coming onboard later in the journey, is that we get to binge watch videos. We don’t have the anticipation of needing to wait for the next video. AhhA, the stove repair.
Just ran across your videos a week ago, looking for European canal cruising videos for people who are planning to visit us this summer aboard Viking. This will be our 4th season aboard which we reach from our winter home in Spain. Season 1 was our second time through Netherlands. Season 2 we went to Berlin and back- you passed the entrance to the Mittleland Canal on your way north. Season 3 we went from our winter berth in Friesland through Belgium and into the north of France. Belgium has many many interesting places to visit, including the larger cities of Antwerp and Ghent, and small towns both in Flanders and Wallonie (French speaking section). Some really great food, good people, fairly easy cruising. Did I mention the fantastic beer? Wow! I have not been able to find videos of this section. I did video slideshows but of course it is not on the same plane as your excellent work. Thanks again.
Hey! Dude with the red beanie on. 1970 called and said they want their glasses back! Last time I saw glasses like that was from the movie Jaws, same pair as the police chef wore lol. Now you just need a shark hunter and a marine biologist, get an old cabin cruiser and name it Orca and you will be ready for a 1970's shark expedition lol.

Definition of a sailboat, a hole in the water into which you poor money. You just brought back my memories of why I sold my sailboat....no regrets. Did I learn....no...I had a forty foot blue hole installed into my backyard into which I now poor money.
Time passes so fast, and those first few days back feels like the work will be never ending, but its not and you get your sailing mindset back. Its the start to season 2, as you know you cant ever rush anything its better just to get things done, more done now, less to be done later, however its a start and that is the excitement of the season to come, welcome back on board, ... fair winds and following seas.
You are young and enthusiastic and love your home and boat. All will work well for you.
Two quick remarks:
Isn't It great to have a small boat? Much easier to keep clean and maintained!
And also, you were so smart to polish before you left so dirt and grime don't stick to the paint!

Glad to see you embarking on Season 2. Magic Carpet looked remarkably good for having been on the hard for so long in that part of the world. I am mid-Atlantic riding the south side of a big low in a friend’s Gunboat 68 cat. We are making the run from Bermuda to Lisbon and made 510 miles in Force 7 winds in 24 hours the day before yesterday! These high performance cats are remarkably fast, luxurious and easy to handle with our 4 person crew. But, at heart, I’m a monohull man! I’ll be looking forward to your coming adventures! 510 nms!! 24hours!!! Wow, such speed are pretty incredible! Yes, I use to be staunchly against catamarans, but now that I know a bit more about boats I can certainly see their appeal. Nonetheless, we’re both still monohull sailors!! Enjoy your trip Jeffrey, it sounds wonderfully exciting!
Another option for drinking water is to get the refillable 5 gallon jugs with a pump top. Maybe a hassle but better than plastic single-use bottles. Then your tank water is for cooking and showers. Safe travels and music making!

I would love to see how you guys tackle spider cracks in a normal white deck; like at the bottom of stanchions and in corners where these cracks tend to form. Older boats often have them and newer owners tend to not know how to make them go away, the right way that is.
I’ll make a note and see if Aladino wants to tackle this one! We don’t have a similar problem since we don’t have fibreglass decks, but I’m sure he’d know what to do in that situation anyway!

After years of fussing with a kerosene stove we finally splurged for a Wallas diesel stove. Wow, no smells or smoke ever. Plus no extra fuels to deal with. For a little bit more you can get it with a cover which doubles as a boat heater. Only draw back is no oven but there simple solutions for that too.

You must buy a very heavy weight canvas cover that’s made to fit your boat. Trying to do it on the cheap will result in the same results. The canvas like sunbrella must fit tight and you must leave no gaps or wrinkles and make sure there are no patches with mold or mildew on it. A good sale cleaner is vinegar wash the cover two to three times a year and especially before it goes to storage. Even those rubberized silver tarps will rip if there are wrinkles or gaps. The more tie downs you apply the better the chance of not having the cover shredded. Wash the cover inside and out and dry throughly, everything has a life expectancy don’t over estimate the cover.

Whatever you do don't throw that stove out. Replace it with an Origo alcohol stove by all means but let someone who is committed to kerosene stoves resurrect it because these things are getting increasingly rare. There are people out there committed to keeping these things going.
If you do intend to "fettle" it contact the people at basecamp in the UK.
Google "basecamp UK" and you'll find them.
Boiled linseed oil on that wood will bring it back to life, water proof it and make it last year's longer. Fun tip.

I had a wooden boat in Sweden and i used linseed oil or linoil as its called here.
I have a single burner gas canister hob for emergency they are cheap but come in handy sometimes, great to see you back, wishing you a happy season

Do not under any circumstances let anyone persuade you to get rid of your kerosine (paraffin) stove. Yours is identical to mine and you will not get a decent one for under 1000 uk pounds. Parts are all available online in the uk and I am sure most of the world. Gas + boat = bomb. The worst that is likely with a paraffin stove is a singed towel while putting it out and perhaps a wee fright.
Anyway, love your channel, keep up the good work, I am hooked.👍😀

12:02 That is a really cute English language mistake. "Sniff" and "sniffle" are so similar sounding and involve similar nose action. You would think that native speakers would even make this mistake but I've never heard it. I think it is because for native speakers there is a strong association with the purpose behind the action--"sniff" to smell, "sniffle" to prevent mucus from running out. And the common expressions that use the words. "Stop your sniffling!" "Take a sniff of this perfume."

in my part of the world, you leave a boat on the hard like that without interior heat and the entire interior turns into a massive fungus factory.. at least the dust layer is relatively easy to clean up.

Welcome back, looking forward to season 2, you guys should invest in a "rainman" portable watermaker, they make about 37 gallons an hour, we have the gasoline powered one, uses a small honda engine, this thing is really compact and takes up very little space on our Dana 24, they do offer a 12 volt system that uses 410 watts/32 amps,either way it sure beats having to lug water to the boat and always worrying about running out of water. In American dollars what was the monthly cost to store your boat at that marina????

Thanks for the heads up about Port San Luis. I have been there once for a few hours to look at a boat to buy. Didn’t get it so last time I thought about this place until today. Amazing what sunshine, water and soap. BTW if you have salt water is the best to use on the decks since it kills mold and most other undesirables.

I'm happy to have my vindö in the water since 3 weeks. But next winter I also plan to overwinter the boat outside, so I will carefully watch which experiences you report during your repair. Some cracks in the varnish seem normal for a Vindö even if it is a "2018 model" and not forty years old as mine. ;-) So good luck you both for the new season, I'm curious which direction the wind might take you ...

Definitely compliment, not replace! I’m not sure yet how it will respond to the ocean environment, but I think it will do just fine. It seems very sturdy. I’ll probably just have to replace the strings often.

Don't want to be too much of a busy body, but those cheap blue plastic tarps? (They have to be worldwide by now). I drove a friend from NYC to Los Angeles with her mattress on the top of a small drive away pick up truck. We covered it with a brand new blue plastic tarp. So this is like an engineering test at 60-80 mph (100 - 139 kph) Mistral velocities. By the time we got to L.A. it was shredded where the wind had whipped it around a lot. Where it was under the ropes, minimal movement, it was in great shape. I think the blue plastic tarps would hold up a lot better than the thin canvas one you used. And run a lot of small lines (like tent cord diameter ) a net would be perfect, to hold down the areas between your real tie downs and wraps. Should hold up a lot better. I can see that your cover is made to fit. Learn how to weld plastic then you can make your own covers or modify cheap ones.

Tarp was too loose . They work best if really tight so the wind can not get a real good hold on them . Like a sail all the damage comes from flapping when loose .
Not good leaving all those masts up ,allot of strain on the rigging with those winds ,the boat can't move as when in the water. Here in Canada My mast comes down every year for the winter. I also shrink wrap tarps rip shrink wrap is stronger ,we get winds over 100km in winter no rips

Yep, the winds in Southern France during winter are strong. I have been encountered those living in my my tent there. But, nothing life thrething. But being in Barcelona would have been much convinient? Why didn't you left your boat there?
Yes I’m sure you would feel them in a tent!! Barcelona would have been lovely but it was far more expensive. Plus it’s convenient to have the boat out of the water!
