My abiding memory is dad sitting down at the organ every evening after dinner and slowly learning to play this piece, a few bars at a time. Thank you for bringing back such a happy memory for me.
Once again we can say that this boy is a genius, with what mastery he has interpreted this famous piece!! Congratulations Jonathan and thank you Tom for sending us this wonderful music!! Art at its best!! You really are wonderful!!💖💖😘😘
I so wanted to hear this played at a cathedral on my high school trip to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Even Church hymns were mindblowing on such a magnificent instrument.
I like to imagine the reactions this piece got when it was first played. It must have had a huge wow factor --- it still does, of course, but things were different then.
the best recording of this master piece I've ever heard in my entire life. It's pure heaven for the hears. I personally love this composition by Bach, I think it is so beautiful and at the same time very sad. I don't know, but I think that this would be a good musical summary of how I feel about my life... sad, deep and very lonely, but still preserving a tragic beauty. Absolutely great job Jonathan, as always!
Have listened to this famous Bach piece so many times, but really enjoyed your performance, think really true to the Bach original, This organ seams to be perfect with the stops selected, After listening to most previous pieces played on this organ, it takes a lot of bettering, Pedal stops are fantastic, many thanks to both of you.
Bravo Jonathan. Stunning performance. I would love to hear you play this in concert along with many other pieces. Thank you Tom for your technical expertise. God bless.
Superb performance Jonathon, I have heard this piece so many times, but just had to play your performance again! Thank you both for a fantastic 12 minutes. Perhaps one day, you will make MY day by performing Lizsts' Prelude and Fugue on B A C H , I live in hope!
I would have sold my soul to the Devil to have seen this live. Brilliant piece of music and brilliant organ. It left me breathless ! Please come to Liverpool Cathedral...........
I was on a tour of the Hammond Castle in Massachusetts and this guy sits down at the organ more or less randomly and just starts to play this piece. I don't think he was supposed to be because the tour guide was completely surprised but didn't complain. I have no idea who the guy was but he was absolutely superb. If you are not familiar, the Hammond castle was brought from Europe piece by piece (I think Frankensteined together from more than one castle) by an engineer who designed and built the organ and supposedly he didn't know how to play. We were told it was one of the world's largest and most complicated organs. In an case, the acoustics were wonderful for this piece. You could hear the notes MINUTES after he stopped playing.
Simply superb so evocative, sends shiver up and down my spine. Close your eyes and let your imagination run wild I had the privilege to listen to the organ at Longwood Gardens in USA would love to hear you work your magic on that instrument thank you Jonathan and Tom for what you do
Not going to lie, have loved this piece of music since my childhood. Sitting in a theater and seeing Rollerball for the first time. (The one with James Caan) ! A beautiful and brilliantly played version of it Mr. Scott. The Lewis pipe organ is an amazing musical instrument and you put it through it's paces sir! 👍👏👏👏👏👏
I wonder how many ever notice that the tune "Fly me to the Moon" is lifted from this fugue, starting at bar 40 (3:24 in this recording). It's more easily caught when the fugue is taken a bit slower.
An 'interesting' interpretation of a piece of music that I've loved all my life. ' D minor, Jonathan and the Albion Church organ......it doesn't get any better
Love it…… This boy is truly a genius. And so is Tom. If I could push those pedals with my feet I would! And take the movies too. OBE for Jonathan and Tom for services rendered to music! Watch this space!
So ... *That's* how it should be played! There are many ways of performing this piece, which some say was not even written for organ (but who cares what 'they' say?) Thanks for this masterly rendition of what must be the most well-known opening of any composition for organ, anywhere.
Great playing of a definitive piece of music. The odd thing is - I've never seen it being played "live" - it seems that every organ concert I go to, it's regarded as "old hat" - and they prefer to play more obscure pieces. One day before I die I'll hear it live. But this is one of the best I've heard. Thanks!!!
It’s kind of like “Stairway to Heaven”: Of course it’s good! We all know that! It’s so familiar that if you’re going to do it, you better do it better than anyone I’ve ever seen. I think Mr. Scott did just that.
It’s probably because every organist knows it, so despite its great beauty it’s the “Für Eloïse” of organ. Pretty, but pained by countless painful renditions and butchery at talent shows
The BEST interpretation and performance I've ever heard! Top five on my bucket list is to hear a performance like this live. Thank you for posting and sharing this wonderful piece!
THE One!! That captured my interest for THE Great instrument! I have Always Loved bach...and This Piece... Got me in to THE wonderful organ! Funny that there is questions about who really wrote This... But whatever.. it is a fantastic organ-piece!!! 💪🥰🎹🤗🙏
Hello! So Beautiful played this Masterpiece from the Great J.S.Bach. Great Performance from Jonathan and Tom thank you very much!!! Greetings from the Netherlands.
Bravo both of you! So often this piece is played at such a breakneck tempo that it just becomes noise. Registrations so clear! Brilliant, once again. I will listen over and over!
Wow boys you've done it again! What a stunning video! One of my favourite Bach pieces, played immaculately & with such emotion by Jonathan on the incredibly beautiful Albion organ! Absolutely loved it! You are really spoiling us this week, thank you both so much! I think I'll go back for another helping!!
Bravo! In your hands Jonathan you can see how Bach intended this piece to be a showcase for all that this wonderful instrument can do. And you certainly did both the instrument and the piece justice in this wonderful interpretation. You are an inspiration and I am so grateful I found you on RUclips. Thank you also, Tom, for bringing us recordings of such beautiful quality.
Wonderful performance! Bravo! Very refined exicution! I experienced this masterpiece for the first time as a kid with my dad near our local organist playing it after the Sunday service. Stunning experience. Since then I have the deepest respect for the organ and its master. It was in the church near which Nicolas Lemmens is buried btw.
Not only do I love Bach's music but the performer was amazing too! Just look at those feet as it moves to play in tune with the keyboard shifting. Reminds me of my younger days when I was playing in the Yamaha Electone using various types of PIPE ORGAN to play and see the character sound change!
This has been my favorite organ piece ever since I watched Captain Nemo play it in Jules Verne's "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" when I was a young boy. This will now be my new favorite RUclips video. Thank you so much!
Watching this and being amazed by the talent and the performance whilst on my rear because I blew out my knee skiing. Thank you so much for posting such great content!
Ah yes, excellent I used to play this on a piano, (fudging things because I don't have 3 hands and 4 manuals) and I think I may have learnt a thing or 2 listening to you version
This rendition of this incredible piece of music is of a very similar standard to a recording of the same from that great organist Nicolas Kynaston on the Royal Albert Hall organ, which I always considered the best I had ever heard. Jonathan thank you so much for this and Tom for the sound and visuals. Very happy. James.
My abiding memory is dad sitting down at the organ every evening after dinner and slowly learning to play this piece, a few bars at a time. Thank you for bringing back such a happy memory for me.
🎼🎼👏🏻🇧🇷
You had an organ in your house??😵💫
Once again we can say that this boy is a genius, with what mastery he has interpreted this famous piece!! Congratulations Jonathan and thank you Tom for sending us this wonderful music!! Art at its best!! You really are wonderful!!💖💖😘😘
Beautifully clear, crisp, exact note lengths and inspired registration, particularly the pedal voices. Bach is smiling. Thank you!!
I so wanted to hear this played at a cathedral on my high school trip to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Even Church hymns were mindblowing on such a magnificent instrument.
I will never tier of hearing music played on organs. It's just so magical.
I like to imagine the reactions this piece got when it was first played.
It must have had a huge wow factor --- it still does, of course, but things were different then.
OMG, this is the best rendition of this famous piece I've ever heard.
Bach would be happy with this performance.
The mastery of this performance is simply breathtaking. How I wish I could play an instrument with this level of skill. Bravo maestro!

0:56 is my favorite part of the song, I don't know why! There's something about listening to that part that makes me hear it repeatedly.
Maybe you didnt see this one 02:29
Classic among the classics. Magnificent, Jonathan and Tom! Perfect!💖💖💖💖💖 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍👏👏👏👏👏😘😘😘😘😘
My No.1 favorite song of all time👏👏👏👏❤❤❤❤👍
Well, it's not technically a song, is it? ;)
Divine music, and divine performance of Bach's great work.
Bravo Jonathan. Stunning performance. I would love to hear you play this in concert along with many other pieces. Thank you Tom for your technical expertise. God bless.

i see the similarity!! never noticed that 😅
The definitive organ piece for me. Huge range. Beautifully played. thank you.

Perfection 👍🏻 Probably one of the best performances of this Timeless Bach piece to date. Beautiful registration.

One of the most fantastic piece of music from Bach and a magnificent organist !
Beautifully played. The best rendition of this work I have ever heard. Much better than mine . Bravo!
Thank you Jonathan and Tom for another masterful piece of musicianship and videography. Outstanding performance.
absolutely marvelous
We used to play this song on a sound system on Halloween night. It was heard 3 streets over, and scared hundreds of trick or treaters. Love this piece
I always loved this peace because it’s just so gothic
I've been waiting for months to hear his interpretation of this magnificent Bach's work. Great! Outstanding!
That’s a standing ovation from me! 👏
Nothing other to say....Beautiful...
Thanks a lot Jonathan...and Tom!👍👍
Very nice. You can't beat Bach. Thank you
Brilliant Jonathan...
He did it! He actually did it!

Try listening with first-rate headphones! I use the SoundCore found at Best Buy. They are superb at $70. The music is as if you were there.
It’s probably because every organist knows it, so despite its great beauty it’s the “Für Eloïse” of organ. Pretty, but pained by countless painful renditions and butchery at talent shows
This version is just magnificent!
Absolut wundervoll! Danke Jonathan und Tom!

Great Performance from Jonathan and Tom thank you very much!!!
Greetings from the Netherlands.
Amazing! This really is the best rendition of this piece that I have ever heard!
Y-E-S! Bach, at the Albion!!! (I love that overhead camera angle of those flying fingers!)
Bravo both of you! So often this piece is played at such a breakneck tempo that it just becomes noise. Registrations so clear! Brilliant, once again. I will listen over and over!
Well said Mr. Wakefield. Couldn't agree more about the usual "breakneck speed at which this is played, when it absolutely loses all but noise!!
Absolutely fantastik performance🍃thank you
A fine performance and good sound /video, of this piece. Am sure its "The" piece that drew most organists to the organ

Fabulous, as always. 🎶
Played this for my young children, and realized they actually probably didn't know this as the "villan" piece!
Grazie Maestro
Bravo! Superb acoustics and beautifully played.
Bach's number one international masterpiece.
Soooo good
Bach Genius. Scott Genius. Organ built By TC Lewis Genius.
Genius, brilliant !! Timing is so critical masterfully done.
8:45 My favourite C natural in all of music. Thank you for the whole performance though! Magnificent.
Bach himself couldn't have played it better!
Looking forward to seeing Tom at Bridgewater Hall in April
This masterfully played--what more can you say ?
I would love to learn how to play music, it looks so fun
Вечная Божественная музыка.
Вне времени.
