My favorite Like a Prayer performance. This song brings back so many memories when I was younger but wow, I just learned and realize what an amazing performer she really is. I would rank her versions of this masterpiece as follows: 1) the original 1989 video; 2) it’s a toss-up between this Blond Ambition performance and the 2012 MDNA tour edition where it closed the Redemption segment of the concert after she did I’m A Sinner, then Cyber-Raga; 3) the cancelled Pepsi commercial version. In terms of visual imagery and messaging, I’d consider Live to Tell in the 2006 Confessions tour crucifixion scene as impactful as the 1989 original video of Like A Prayer. If Madonna were an art painter, these performances will be hanging in the Louvre or the Met as priceless masterpieces.
